Brown Cloa June Brown, 77, died Thursday at her home in Damascus. Twice married, she was the wife of the late Clarence MeIvin Robinett and the late Raliegh Brown. Born Nov. 22, 1923 in Buchanan County, Va., she was a daughter of the late James Richard and Sara Martha Owens Childress. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and a member of The Daisy Chapel of Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Surviving are four children Erma Shelton of Doran, Va., Johnny Brown and his wife Jaqueline of Martinsburg, W.Va., Vickie Brown Atanasov and her husband Steve of Middletown and David W. Brown and his wife Judith of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three grandchildren that she raised Edward Sheets of Mount Airy, Randall Sheets of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Brandon Sheets of Damascus, and an additional 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; a sister Ruby Street of Rosedale, Va. and a brother Ellis Childress of Haysi, Va. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her daughter Shirley Ann Sheets, six brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home in Damascus. Rev. Frank Nick officiated. Burial was at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick. Carlos Alfredo Fuentes Carlos Alfredo Fuentes of Gaithersburg died April 16, 2001. He was the beloved husband of Myrian Morillo Fuentes; father of Cindy and Emily Fuentes; son of Gregorio and the late Maria Catalyna Fuentes; nephew of M. Isabelle Navas; brother of Jorge, Rene, Dora and the late Cecilia Fuentes. DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg handled the arrangements. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Derwood, on April 19. Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Lunenfeld Herbert S. Lunenfeld of North Potomac died April 20, 2001. He was the husband of Loretta Dunn Lunenfeld. Surviving besides his wife are five sons, Jeffrey B. Lunenfeld and his wife, Caroline, Stephen G. Lunenfeld and his wife, Stacy, Andrew P. Lunenfeld, Douglas L. Lunenfeld and his wife, Janice, and Jack W. Lunenfeld. He is also survived by one grandson, Jonathan M. Lunenfeld and one brother, Barry Lunenfeld. Mr. Lunenfeld was involved in may programs in the Gaithersburg area. He was a Cub Scout leader for Pack 1988 from 1974 to 1979, and a t-ball and basketball coach. Mr. Lunenfeld moved to Montgomery Village in 1973. A memorial service was held on April 22 at Danzansky-Goldberg Memorial Chapel Inc., 1170 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Md. 20852. McBain, 92, of Gaithersburg died April 24, 2001, at the Shady Grove Rehabilitation Center in Rockville. Born March 5, 1909, in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Charles Lester and Lucy Braun Brown. She was the wife of the late George McBain. Mrs. McBain was a homemaker. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg and a charter member of the Gaithersburg Homemakers. She was also a member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Center. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She also liked to watch golf on television. She is survived by two sons, George W. McBain and wife, Marjorie, of Gaithersburg and Harold T. McBain and wife, Jeannette, of Gaithersburg; 13 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. A daughter, Mildred L. Regan, preceded her in death. The Muriel H. Raymond Eugene Murphy Mr. Raymond Eugene Murphy, 77, of Gaithersburg died April 28, 2001, at his home. Born Dec. 3, 1923, in Bethesda, he was a son of the late Melville and Mary Cecilia Barbee Murphy. He was the husband of Dorothy Harris Murphy. Mr. Murphy graduated from the Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. He began his career at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda in 1942 and then served two years before entering the U.S. Armed Forces as a radio operator in Italy. Upon his discharge he returned to the National Institutes of Health where he was employed as an Equipment Specialists in the Department of Nuclear Medicine and then retired in 1984. Following retirement he was involved in dog training and served as AKC Dog Show Judge for about 30 years. He also enjoyed woodworking. Besides his wife of 52 years, he is survived by a sister Doris Spence of Rockville. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium. "Tish" Williamson Ellen P. "Tish" Williamson, 47, died from complications following surgery Feb. 2, 2001. She was born Oct. 23, 1953, in Norristown, Pa., and moved with her family to Los Alamos, N. M., in 1961. She was a 1971 graduate of Los Alamos High School and was active in the Girl Scouts and the United Methodist Youth Group and Choir. She received a bachelor of science degree in microbiology from Ottawa (Kansas) University in 1975. She married Don Williamson in 1975 and they lived in Silver Spring, Takoma Park and Gaithersburg for many years before moving to Fernley, Nev., in March 2000. She started her work career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Washington and after working with other health benefit consultant firms, she joined Williams, Thatcher & Rand, which later became AON Consulting of Bethesda as a partner. She designed health benefit plans for organizations in the Washington, D.C., area including United States Postal Workers, National Railroad Passenger Corp., Dyncorp, U. S. Silica and many others. She enjoyed raising golden retrievers, oil painting, photography, gourmet cooking and backpacking. Survivors include her husband, Don; her parents, George and Kelly Wagoner of Albuquerque; her sister and brother-in-law, Holly and Kurt Adams of Los Alamos; niece and nephew, Pamela Adams and Karl Adams, both of Los Alamos; her parents- in-law, Frankie and Jerry Williamson of Potomac; her sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Steve Melvin; niece, Jennifer Sadler of Gaithersburg; and sister-in- law, Lori Williamson of San Jose, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Headache Foundation or the Sierra Club would be appreciated. *****May 9, 2001***** Helene Taylor Grey Helene Taylor Grey, 82, of Annapolis, formerly of Gaithersburg died in an automobile accident on May 1. Born March 14, 1919, in Henderson, Ky., she was the wife of the late Lt. Col. Lyle R. Grey, USAF. Mrs. Grey was a homemaker and mother. She served in the Red Cross in India during World War II, where she met her husband. She continued working with the Red Cross as a volunteer at the Naval Academy Medical Records Department until the time of her death. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, movies and travel with family. She is survived by one son, L. David Grey of Annapolis; one daughter, Deborah Grey of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and three grandchildren. Burial will be private at Arlington National Cemetery. Louise Bernadette Newman Mrs. Louise Bernadette Newman, 72, of Gaithersburg died on May 2, 2001, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Born March 14, 1929, in Brookline, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Herbert Joseph and Hannah Hession Stoker. She was the wife of David Bruce Newman. Mrs. Newman attended Mt. St. Joseph Academy and Emerson College in Massachusetts and Ventura College in California. She had worked as a real estate broker for more than 20 years. She was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Olney and sang in the choir. She was also an active member of St. Peter's volunteer staff and the St. Peter's bridge club. Besides her husband, she is survived by six children, David Bruce Newman Jr. of LaPlata, Dennis Stephen Newman of Brattleboro, Vt., Pamela Anne Averill of Killingworth, Conn., Gregory Joseph Newman of Worthington, Mass., Christopher John Newman of Jarrettsville and Catherine Mary Newman of Rockville; one brother, John Raymond Stoker of Massachusetts; and 10 grandchildren. Airy died April 26, 2001, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife for 44 years of Robert Lee Sands. Born on June 25, 1938, in Derwood, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Edward and Anna Munday Payne. Mrs. Sands worked for 18 years for the Naval Surface Warfare Center formerly David Taylor Model Basin where in 1957 she met her husband who she married on Aug. 24, 1957. Mrs. Sands retired on disability in January 1995. She enjoyed and was very active in gardening. Surviving in addition to her husband are four children, Dawn R. Smith of Harpers Ferry, Scott R. Sands, Alan W. Sands and Corey M. Sands, all of Mt. Airy; two grandchildren, Deanna and Anthony Smith; three sisters, Florence Foster of Gaithersburg, Alice Gilmore of Monrovia and Doris Ann Sheets of Kansas; one sister-in-law, Betty Jean Payne of Germantown. Born Sept. 18, 1944, in Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Chalan Gideos. She was the wife of the late Charles C. Weaver. Mrs. Weaver worked for about 18 years as a claims administrator for the Claims Administration Corp. in Rockville. Her hobbies included gardening. Survivors include one son, Thomas E. Weaver and his wife, Cheryl, of Gaithersburg; one daughter, Lisa A. Weaver of Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Andrew and Katherine Weaver, both of Gaithersburg; and two brothers, Michael Gideos of New Hampshire and William Gideos of Pennsylvania. Emma Anderson Emma Anderson, 85, of Germantown, died May 2 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. She was the wife of the late Andrew Anderson. Born July 5, 1915 in the Bronx, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Anna Raben Knack. Mrs. Anderson was a switchboard operator for New York University for many years. Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and great nephews. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by two sisters, Elfride E. Knack and Emma D. Ippolito. A funeral service was held Monday at Olin L. Sammel, 61, of Germantown, died on Monday at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. He was the husband of Lynn Sammel. Born on Dec. 9, 1939 in Queens, N.Y., he was the son of Henry C. Sammel of Bradenton, Fla. and the late Henrieta Bashwiner Sammel. Mr. Sammel worked for 12 years for the Military Sealift Command, Department of the Navy. He retired in 1997. He was a pastoral care volunteer at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Germantown, where he was instrumental in starting a cancer survivors support group. Surviving in addition to his wife and father are one daughter, Wendy King, of Germantown; one son, Robert B. Sammel, of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Adam King and Bethany Sammel, and one sister, Billie Dolega, of Miami, Fla. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was a carpenter and a member of local union 1590, graduating from Bell Vocational School in Washington, D.C. as a journeyman carpenter. He was also employed by J.B. Kendall Co., Blaine Hardware and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve in Washington, where he retired. He was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Baltimore. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Estelle Stephens Reimer. Mr. Reimer is also survived by sons Michael, Joseph and Dale Reimer and daughter Sharon Issac and son-in-law Brian Isaac; a sister, Agnes Raupuk; six grandchildren and a nephew. A service was held April 27 at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Silver Spring. Burial followed at Potomac Baptist Church Cemetery, King George, Va. Leonard C. Burr Staff Sgt. Leonard C. Burr, 57, retired U.S. Army, died at his home of natural causes on May 5, 2001. He lived in the Gaithersburg area for the past 12 years. Burr was born in Grand Island, Neb. His parents were Frederick Joseph Burr and Mary Heilen Burr. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea, Germany, Vietnam and Japan. After 22 years of service, he retired and worked in sales in the auto parts industry. He was a member of Gaithersburg Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include his second wife, Barbara H. Burr of Germantown; two daughters, Tammy Kennam of Seattle, Wa., and Kathleen Burr of Pueblo, Colo.; and a son Dale Burr of Grand Island, Neb.; two stepdaughters Nicole Einrem of Tabor, S. D., and Kendra Neil of Gaithersburg; and three grandchildren. Services were held on May 9 at the Devol Funeral Home, Gaithersburg. Mary Evelyn Boarman Cleaver Mrs. Mary Evelyn Boarman Cleaver died April 22, 2001, at the Casey House in Rockville. She was the daughter of the late Phillip Simms Boarman Sr. and Margaret Ethel Walters Boarman of Rockville. She was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church and The Leisure Club. Mrs. Cleaver worked in the Cardwright Gift Shop in Twinbrook for many years. She was the wife of Christopher R. Kirchoff. Mrs. Kirchoff was a graduate of Gaithersburg High School and attended Montgomery College in Takoma Park. She was a physical therapy assistant and a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Yobbagy, 62, a commercial automotive parts sales manager, died April 10 at Washington Adventist Hospital of heart failure following knee replacement surgery. Mr. Yobbagy, a resident of Silver Spring, was born in Weirton, W.Va. He came to the Washington area to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1956- 1957. Following eight years of service in the United States Air Force, he returned to the Washington area and entered a career as sales manager for commercial automotive parts, most recently with Pep Boys in Northern Virginia. He was a member of St. Camillus Catholic Church in Silver Spring. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Patricia Yobbagy of Silver Spring; two children, Carol Sier of Silver Spring, and Sheryll Broznowicz of Odenton. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary Mandich Yobbagy of Weirton, W. Va. *****May 23, 2001***** Ida Raitano Ida Raitano, 86, of Beltsville died May 7, 2001, at Holy Cross Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Burtonsville. Mrs. Raitano was a founding member of the Parkinson Support Group of Washington, and was a past president of the national organization. She helped organize exercise programs for Parkinsonians, testified for research funds and pharmaceutics, spoke to health care providers and families about the disease, and was a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging. She was a Prince Georgian of the Year (1983) and was active in several organizations in Prince George's County. Mrs. Raitano was an active Democrat who campaigned for her daughter, Marilyn J. Praisner, during her campaigns for the school board and Montgomery County Council. A native of Passaic, N.J., she was employed over the years as a seamstress, office clerk and postal worker. Her husband, Frederick J. Raitano, died in 1980. She is survived by her daughters Marilyn J. Praisner and Anita Fenton of Paxton, Mass., five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Bette Natoli, of Elmwood Park, N.J., her brother-in-law, Walter Sudol of Toms River, N.J, several cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. A service will be held 10 a.m. June 2 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 12319 New Hampshire Ave., Colesville. Martin Franklin "Frank" Lee Martin, 68, of Clarksburg, died May 13 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. He was the husband of Evelyn B. Droneburg Martin, his wife of 45 years. Born June 16, 1932 in Creagerstown, he was a son of the late Elmer and Annabell Springer Martin. He was a former member of Creagerstown Lutheran Church. He was also a dairy farmer for more than 20 years before becoming a sheet metal mechanic employed with Custom Air Concept and retiring from Woodlawn Corporation of Gaithersburg after nearly 20 years. He enjoyed riding and working on farm tractors, gardening, country music and dancing. He loved candy and took great care in raising his dog Lady. In addition to his wife, survivors include eight children, Rebecca Martin Free and husband Greg of Centerville, Va., Janet Martin Ruh of Frederick, Frankie Childers and significant other Carroll Hock of Clarksburg, Linda Nauman and husband Michael of Westminster, David Stull of Frederick, Alice Komorosky and Husband Ron of Lynchburg, Va., Elwood Stull and wife Mary of Bethesda, Earlene Voith and significant other Joe Beach of Damascus; three brothers, Ralph Martin and wife Betty of Mountaindale, Glen Martin and wife Sandy of Frederick, Robert Martin and wife Catherine of Woodsboro; two sisters, Helen Clem and husband Robert of Middletown, Grace Marshall and husband Clifford of Creagerstown; a sister-in-law Ruth Martin of Woodsboro; 20 grandchildren; 37 great- grandchildren. J. William "Bill" Jones J. William "Bill" Jones died May 9, 2001, at York Hospital, York, Pa. He was born Aug. 19, 1919, in York, Pa., the son of Josiah W. Jones Sr. and Julia (Strickler) Jones. He was the husband of Elizabeth Ann (Bishop) Jones. He was a 1939 graduate of William Penn High School. Mr. Jones was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Jones was president of Chanticleer Shoes in Frederick, Rockville and Gaithersburg, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1987. Prior to owning his own store he worked at Reineberg's Shoes from 1961-1964 and prior to that, New Swanger Shoe Store for 16 years. He was an expediter for York Safe and Lock Company from 1939-1945 and was a tip staff at York County Court House from 1990-1997. He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ. In addition to his spouse, survivors include two sons, Michael D. Jones of Walkersville and William C. Jones of Salisbury; two daughters, Julia A. Evans of North Stonington, Conn., and Susan E. Stang Mr. Carroll R. Stang, 74, of Walkersville, formerly of Derwood, died May 17, 2001, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born April 7, 1927, in Gaithersburg, he was a son of the late Raymond and Annie Crown Stang. He was the husband of Mildred F. Stang. Mr. Stang was a graduate of Gaithersburg High School. He also attended The University of Maryland and graduated from The Bliss Electrical School in Takoma Park. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army with the 88th Blue Devil Infantry Division in Italy. In 1960, Mr. Stang worked for the C&P Telephone Company as a central office repairman. Over the years he held various titles and retired in 1985 as an engineering manager after 25 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and the 88th Division Association. He was also a member of the Alexander Graham Bell Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Bliss Electrical Society. Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Carroll L. Born in Wakefield, Mass., Mr. Kinnard attended Exeter Academy and Boston Latin School before entering Navy ROTC at Tufts University in 1941. He served as executive officer of a naval minesweeper in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. Mr. Kinnard began his service to the General Electric Corp. in 1947 as an overseas auditor. He helped bring power to underdeveloped countries throughout the world and eventually became vice president and general manager for large steam turbine-generator division of General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y., before retirement. Am avid yachtsman, he was commodore of the Harbour Ridge Yacht Club in Palm City following his retirement. Taylor, a veteran ABC news radio producer and reporter, died of a pulmonary embolism May 6 at his home in Rockville. He was 58. For more than three decades Mr. Taylor wrote and produced award-winning specials for ABC News and served as a reporter on a number of critically acclaimed assignments working from both the Washington bureau and New York headquarters. In 1983 Mr. Taylor joined ABC News Radio in Washington as a producer and reporter, where he served as a member of the White House press corps. Prior to that he was a documentary and special events producer/reporter for ABC Radio, a position he held since 1977. From 1968 to 1977 he held the position of senior editor. Mr. Taylor his survived by his wife, Glenda, and three children, James, Michael and Olivia. He was born, raised and educated in Philadelphia. Mr. Murphy attended Highpoint High School in Beltsville and Prince George's Community College. He served in the army during the Vietnam War. He later returning to the Washington, D.C. area and set up a internal medicine practice in Bethesda, later expanding his practice to include oncology. He worked at Providence, Sibley, Holy Cross and Suburban hospitals. He was a member of the American College of Physicians and former member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. She also had worked as a pediatric nurse in Danbury, Conn., and Belleville, N.J. She was born in Karlskrona, Sweden, and attended schools there and in Ronneby, Sweden. She graduated with a degree in nursing from the Swedish Red Cross School of Nursing in Stockholm. Later she attended the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm for post-graduate studies in pediatric nursing. She was a member of the Audubon Society and the Maine Mycological Society. She was born Oct. 23, 1953, in Norristown, Pa., and moved with her family to Los Alamos, N.M., in 1961. She was a 1971 graduate of Los Alamos High School and was active in the Girl Scouts and the United Methodist Youth Group and Choir. She received a bachelor of science degree in microbiology from Ottawa (Kan.) University in 1975. She married Don Williamson in 1975 and they lived in Silver Spring, Takoma Park and Gaithersburg for many years before moving to Fernley, Nev., in March 2000. She started her work career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Washington and eventually joined Williams, Thatcher & Rand, which later became AON Consulting of Bethesda, as a partner. She designed health benefit plans for organizations in the Washington, D.C., area including United States Postal Workers, National Railroad Passenger Corp., Dyncorp, U.S. Silica and many others. She enjoyed raising golden retrievers, oil painting, photography, gourmet cooking and backpacking. Ballmann, 80, a Rockville resident for 28 years and formerly a resident of Kensington for 18 years, died of pneumonia April 22 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney. Mr. Ballmann was born in Cloverport, Ken., in 1920, and stayed there until he served in World War II, where he was a sergeant in the Army Air Force in both Pearl Harbor and Guam. He was cited with a World War II Victory Medal, a Meritorious Unit Award, a Good Conduct Medal and an Asiatic Theater Award. He moved to the Washington area in 1946 and attended Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and also graduated from George Washington University Law School in 1957. He worked as an analytical statistician for the Pentagon from 1955 to 1976, during which time he raised four children and volunteered as the PTA president at their schools, Garrett Park Elementary, Kensington Junior High and Woodward High School. He also served at the chairman for the Maryland Exceptional Child Committee and was instrumental in creating and implementing the gifted-and-talented program in Maryland schools. From 1979 to 1981 he was the president of Separated and Divorced Catholics for the Washington region and helped to build membership from under 50 to over 200 members. Over the years his hobby was traveling and he visited Egypt, Israel, Russia, China, Canada, Mexico, Italy, Scandinavia, England and almost all 50 U.S. states. In the 1990s, he wrote a history of the buildings of Georgetown University entitled "A History of the Outlines of Campus Buildings, 1789-1995." He is survived by two sisters, Agnes of Tampa and Regina of Philadelphia; his former wife, Marion Ballmann of Kensington; one daughter, Susan of Germantown; three sons, Frank of Arlington, Joe of Rockville and Richard of Rockville; and one granddaughter.
