A renowned scientist in virology and microbiology, Mr. Mann was born Sept. 14, 1934, in Aberdeen, Scotland. Mr. Mann was affiliated with the National Institutes of Health, WorldHealth and Pan American Children's Health campaigns. He was the publisher of more than 90 articles, all related to prevention of pediatric diseases. He attended the University of London. Survivors include his wife Beulah and sons Daniel and Keith of London. Funeral services were held Dec. 28. Burial was at Forest Oak Cemetery in Gaithersburg. Gerald Patrick Roginsky Gerald Patrick Roginsky, of Montgomery Village, died Dec. 23. He was the husband of Barbara Ann Roginsky; father of Cherie Lynn Roginsky; son of Marie Roginsky and the late John A. Roginsky; brother of Eugene Roginsky and Geraldine Candiracci and the late John "Sonny" Roginsky Jr. Friends may call today from 6-8 p.m. at De Vol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg. Powell, 81, of Gaithersburg, died Dec. 21 at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He was the husband of Jewell G. Powell. Born May 22, 1920, in Buffalo, Mo., he was the son of the late Ray Joseph and Fay Cox Powell. Powell served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and Vietnam and retired after a 30-year career with the Air Force. Surviving in addition to his wife are children Dean F. Powell of Kansas City, Mo., Lance B. Powell of Anchorage, Ala., Gail Tinsman of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Billy W. Turner of Glen Burnie. Seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandson also survive him. Services were held Dec. 29. She was born March 16, 1924 in Logansport, Ind. In addition to being a homemaker, she was retail manager of The Bee Hive. Mrs. Burnett was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Palm Coast, Nichols Methodist Church, Trumbull and Pinewood Lake Association. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Sinni and husband Steve of Germantown and son John Burnett and wife Cathy of Springfield, Va. Lindsay Avery Schuttig Lindsay Avery Schuttig, 14, a resident of Germantown, died Dec. 29 of injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was born Aug. 7, 1987 in Rockville. A freshman at Damascus High School, she was a member of the philosophy club. She enjoyed basketball, horsemanship, dance and art. She is survived by her mother, Denise Schuttig; her father, Leonard Schuttig; grandmother Beryl Barth; two aunts, three uncles and seven cousins. Col. William E. Rothe Col. William E. Rothe (Ret.), 82, of Clearville, Pa., died at his home on Dec. 28. He was born March 1, 1919 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Harold E. and Edith (Sargent) Rothe. On Dec. 21, 1948, in Ft. Lawton, Wash., he married the former Emma Ash, who survives along with three children: Susan, wife of Lloyd A. Shumaker of Germantown; Diane E. Ruckert, of Taneytown, Md.; the Rev. Eric V. Rothe and his wife, Laura, of Jacksboro, Texas; six grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. He was a member of the former Methodist-Episcopal Church. During World War II, he was a liaison officer in the CBI Theater, assigned to the New 22nd Division Chinese Army. From 1953 on he was associated with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in the fields of radiation and medicinal chemistry. He served in the battles China Defense, China Offense and India- Burma, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon, Bronze Star Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with OLC Armed Forces Reserved Medal and the China Memorial Ribbon. His son, the Rev. Eric V. Rothe, will conduct private funeral services. Burial will be in the Everett Cemetery. Hunter Mrs. Beulah Virginia Hunter, 82, of Gaithersburg, died Jan. 5 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville. Born Oct.18, 1919, in Washington, D.C., she was the wife of the late Edward S. Hunter. She was the daughter of the late George Washington and Beulah Mae Ammonette Fagan. Mrs. Hunter was a homemaker and a member of the VFW in Gaithersburg. Her hobbies included embroidery and canning fruits and vegetables. Survivors include seven children, Nancy Buckholtz of Huntly, Va., Carolyn Rich of Florida, Gary Hunter of Germantown, Glen Kuykendall of Frederick, Sandra Edwards of Knoxville, Md., "Sweetie" Bennett of Damascus and Debbie Hunter of Deale, Md.; one sister, Francis Ellis of Germantown; two brothers, William L. Fagan of Gordonsville, Va., and James Fagan of Daytona, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville. Burial is in Woodside Cemetery, Brinklow, Md. Russell G. McGrew Earl T. Shreve Mr. Earl T. Shreve, 59, of Gaithersburg died from pancreatic cancer on Dec. 28, 2001, at his residence. Born July 17, 1943, in Dickerson, he was the son of Virginia Shreve of Barnesville and the late Earl Thomas Shreve Sr. He was the husband of Carole O. Shreve. Mr. Shreve was a member of the Monocacy Lions Club and served as president from 1976-77 and 1996-98 and secretary from 1985-94. He was the recipient of many honors and awards from the Lions Club, including the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was an active member of the Montgomery County Agriculture Fair Board and the Barnesville Baptist Church where he served as a Church Deacon and sat on the Board of Trustees. Mr. Shreve recently received the 2001 Maryland's Most Beautiful People Award from Montgomery County. He worked at Sears for 27 years in the Hardware and Lawn and Garden departments. Surviving besides his wife and mother are two sons, John T. Shreve and his wife, Nancy, of New Market, Robert A. Shreve and his wife, Dawn, of Frederick; one sister, Shirley Yates of Barnesville; two grandchildren, Sarah Shreve and Kyle Shreve; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was born April 21, 1934, in New York City, the son of the late Cora Shuler Robinson. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara A. Sweet of Hagerstown; two daughters, Jeanette S. Copeland of Washington, D.C., and Monica D. Sweet of Montgomery Village; a sister, Mary Archibald of New York; two sisters, Daisy Youngblood of New Jersey and Bernice Rivers of New York; and two grandchildren. Mr. Sweet was employed with U.S. Airways since 1985, planning to retire at the end of the year. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was fluent in five languages. King, Sr., 42, of Thurmont, died Dec. 30 at the Shock Trauma Center of University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore from injuries he sustained in an accident. Born March 9, 1959, in Olney, he was a son of Sara Kemp King of Thurmont and the late James R. Pete King. Surviving besides his mother are two sons, Michael R. King Jr. of Williamsport and James R. Dale Eugene Wiglesworth Dale Eugene Wiglesworth, 66, of Laytonsville, died Dec. 28 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. He was the husband of E. Pauline Wiglesworth. Born Oct. 13, 1935, in Kentucky, he was the son of Opra Elizabeth Ware Ramburg of Victorville, Calif., and the late John Raymond Wiglesworth. Mr. Wiglesworth served in the U.S. Army and had been employed as an insurance appraiser. Surviving beside his wife and mother is a sister, Jackie Doppelt of Victorville. William McKinley Jenkins Jr. William McKinley "Billy" Jenkins Jr., 60, of Rockville, died Jan. 4 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville. Born Sept. 15, 1941, in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late William M. Sr. and Glaytha Tibbs Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins worked as a truck driver transporting heavy equipment. Survivors include one son, William M. Jenkins III of Wheaton; brothers and sisters, Helen Calloway of Rockville, Tom Gullion of Frederick, Parkie Jenkins of Rockville, Carol Jenkins of Rockville, James Jenkins of Hagerstown and Patricia Sale of Gaithersburg; a very special friend, Bien Thi Hoang of Silver Spring; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Burial will be in Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville. Ethel R. Hagan Ethel R. "Bertie" Hagan, 87, of Derwood, died Jan. 4 at Shady Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Aloysious Hagan. Mrs. Hagan worked as a laboratory technician for the local government. Survivors include one son, Thomas A. Hagan; one daughter, Mary H. Mace; one sister, Nettie H. Harmon; and one granddaughter. Funeral services were held Jan. 8 at Derwood Bible Church. Burial was in the Ricketts Family Cemetery following the service. Shaw, 63, of Rockville, died Dec. 23 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. Mr. Shaw was a carpenter by trade. He was the husband of Mary E. Shaw; father of William A., Wayne A. and Walter A. Shaw; grandfather of eight; and brother of Robert L. Shaw. Funeral services were held Dec. 27 at DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg. Burial was at Rosehill Cemetery in Clear Springs, Md. Richard M. Philbin Richard M. Philbin, 75, of Rockville, died of pancreatic cancer on Dec. 18. He was born in Lowell, Mass., in July 1926 to Philip and Ruth Philbin of Lowell. He was educated in the Lowell public school system and graduated from Lowell High School in 1944. He served in the United States Army Air Force post-war occupation forces in the Pacific Theater from 1945-47. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1951 and a juris doctor degree from Boston College School of Law in 1955. He practiced law in Massachusetts prior to moving to the Washington, D.C., area in 1961 to serve as a staff member in the Kennedy White House. In 1963 he transferred to the Small Business Administration, where he served in the Minority Enterprise Office until his retirement from federal service in 1983. For the last 18 years he was an editor for Medical Dictation Inc. of Gaithersburg. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Ann Muller Philbin; six children, Ann Philbin of Los Angeles, Richard and wife Mary Philbin of Dickerson, Patricia Noble of Frederick, John and wife Karen Philbin of Damascus, Dr. Philip and wife Lynn Philbin of Annapolis, and Carol and husband Bill Cosgrove of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. Philip H. Philbin of Bethesda and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Donald Philbin of North Chelmsford, Mass.; three sisters, Ruth Boisseau of Bellevue, Wash., Patricia Howard of Manchester, N.H., and Dorothea Burke of Danvers, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Kathryn Stoklosa of Lowell. Mr. Philbin was considered by his family to be a gentleman and a scholar, whose love and compassion touched everyone who knew him. His family said he imparted wisdom, humor and kindness in everything he did, and was able to captivate the hearts and imagination of his grandchildren. Funeral services were private. Marie Preston Jones Marie Preston Jones, 88, a resident of the Wheaton-Glenmont area since 1956, died Dec. 16 at the Hospice of the Chesapeake House in Linthicum. Born Nov. 4, 1913, in New York City, she graduated from McKinley Tech High School in Washington, D.C., and went on to teach at Strayer College in the District in the 1950s. She played the bass drum in the Rockville Band for several years and was a member of the Rockville Arts League. She attended Montgomery College, where she became an artist, working as both a sculptor and a painter. She was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church's senior group and donated many volunteer hours with various organizations, including Meals on Wheels and the Gray Ladies at Walter Reed Army Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Roy Howard Jones; her brother, Henry Preston; and her sisters, Rose Lee, Martha Preston, Irene Frost and Theresa Blaine. She is survived by one son, Larson Jones of Edgewater; one daughter, Gerda Ryan of Severn; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Silver Spring. Burial followed at George Washington Cemetery in Adelphi. Collins Funeral Home in Silver Spring handled the arrangements. Dr. W. Robert Felix Jr. Dr. W. Robert Felix Jr., 67, of Watertown and Wellfleet, Mass., and husband of Bernice Crossley Felix, formerly of Rockville, passed away in his home on Dec. 1 after a long struggle against amyloidosis, a rare disease that affects the major organs. He was the son of the late Walter Robert Felix Sr. and Mildred Irene Felix of Sunbury, Pa. Dr. Felix was a vascular surgeon in private practice in Chestnut Hill, Mass., where he was the medical director of Boston Cardiovascular Lab. He was formerly on the surgical staff at Brigham and Women's and Newton-Wellesley hospitals, assistant professor of surgery at Harvard University, an instructor at Tufts and Northeastern universities, and a guest lecturer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Felix was born in Sunbury on Sept. 26, 1934, and graduated from Sunbury High School in 1952 and Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster in 1956. He earned his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1960. He began his medical career in Philadelphia in 1964, where he pioneered one of the first uses of Doppler Ultrasound as a diagnostic technique in arterial and vascular disease. His research was first published in 1975 and helped lead to a series of medical instruments now commonly used today. He was also recognized for his innovative approach to the treatment of liver ascites when he won a national award from the American College of Surgeons in 1982. Dr. Felix served on active duty in the Navy from 1960 to 1963. He continued in the Naval Reserves for 19 years and retired as a captain in 1997. He won several awards and was cited for his many contributions to Naval Medicine. Dr. Felix was active in professional associations and held many community volunteer positions. He loved skiing, scuba diving, fishing, Wellfleet oysters, sailing and astronomy and was a longtime season ticket holder to the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Curtis and Fredrick "Flip" Felix; two daughters, Debra Felix and Eve Felix; a stepdaughter, Karen Crossley; a son-in-law, David Hawver; a daughter-in-law, Tonya Felix; four grandchildren; two sisters, Luanne Hunt and Joan Shaffer; and a brother, Jack Felix. He was formerly married to Anne Straw Felix of Waltham, Mass. A memorial service with full military honors was held Dec. 15 at the Congregational Church in Wellfleet. *****Jan. 16, 2002***** Faye Elizabeth Samples Becker Faye Elizabeth Samples Becker, 86, a longtime resident of the Washington, D.C. area, died at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda on Jan. 7. Born April 7, 1915, Mrs. Becker grew up in Charleston, W.Va., and received her bachelor of arts degree from Marshall University in Huntington. She later did graduate work at American University in Washington, D.C. and at the University of Maryland. She is listed in the second edition of "Who's Who of American Women" as an educator. She moved to Washington, D.C. in 1950 and taught school in Chevy Chase until 1953, when she married the late Arthur M. Becker, a Washington, D.C. lawyer who later became a law partner of Richard Nixon. In 1962, they moved to Potomac, where they resided on their horse farm for more than 30 years. Mrs. Becker was a member of The Capital Speaker's Club and served as president of her class in 1960, her chapter in 1967-1968, and the club 1980-1981. She was also a past president of the Lawyer's Wives of the District of Columbia, the Montgomery County Heart Association, and the Women's Committee of the Japanese International Christian University. She was a life member of The National Symphony Women's Committee and the Salvation Army Auxiliary, having chaired many functions including the Salvation Army Fashion Show Luncheon and the Annual Garden Party. She was also a long-term member of the International Club, the Army and Navy Club, the Welcome to Washington Club, the National Capital Lawyers Auxiliary, and Potomac Hunt Club. As a result of her husband's international law practice, she enjoyed extensive worldwide travel to many unique and interesting places. Mrs. Becker is survived by four brothers; one sister; one son, Francis E. Becker and his wife Linda of Frederick; and one grandson. DeHart, 66, of Thurmont, formerly of Laytonsville, died Jan. 13, 2002, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Born April 16, 1935, in Seat Pleasant, Md., he was a son of the late John R. and Mabel McCormick DeHart. Mr. DeHart attended Damascus High School. He worked as a carpenter in construction and worked for the county transportation department. His hobbies included wood working, building furniture, music, fishing, football and gardening. Surviving besides his wife are three children, Todd W. DeHart and his wife, Jennifer, of Sykesville, Tracy A. DeHart of Nashville, Tenn., and Thad J. DeHart of Frederick; one granddaughter, Megan DeHart of Sykesville; one sister, Glenna Mae Ennis of Gaithersburg; and three brothers, Jack DeHart of Jefferson, Md., Roger DeHart of Monrovia and John R. DeHart Jr. of Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at The Washington Grove United Methodist Church in Washington Grove. Burial will be private. Elfrieda Grace Haynes Elfrieda Grace Haynes, 84, of Laurel, a resident of Silver Spring for 50 years died Jan. 8, 2002, at Laurel Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker and was an active member of Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church. She was involved as a Montgomery County 4-H Leader and the Homemakers Club. She was born Oct. 22, 1917, in Riverton, Iowa, the daughter of the late Walter and Clara Dahlgran. Ms. Haynes graduated from Peru State Teachers College in Nebraska with a teaching degree and took graduate courses at George Washington University. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester. Ms. Haynes is survived by her children David, Roger, and Steven Haynes; brothers Abel and Harold Dahlgran, and grandchildren Joshua, Caleb, Esther, and Ryan. Mancuso Doris Vivian Mancuso, 74, of Damascus died Jan. 20 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital following a long-term illness. Born Sept. 15, 1927 in Alexandria, Va., she was the wife of the late Salvatore J. Mancuso. Survivors include three sons, Joseph Hughes of Rockville, Michael Mancuso of Gaithersburg, and Dino Mancuso of Olney. Box 126, Damascus, MD 20872. Gertrude L. Grabowski Gertrude L. Grabowski of Germantown died Jan. 20. She was the wife of the late Edward J. Grabowski. Survivors include two sons, John Grabowski and George Grabowski and his wife, Pam, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Zehra Atay Zehra Atay, 92, of Germantown, died Jan. 2, 2002, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville after a long illness. She was born in 1910 in Ercencan, Turkey, then part of the Ottoman Empire. She and her family witnessed the Russian invasion and occupation of the eastern part of the Ottoman Empire during World War I. They and thousands of other residents of that war-torn region fled to the western part of the country. Many people died of starvation. She attended one of the religious primary schools until the school system was secularized during the Ataturk Revolution. She was married to the late Arif Atay who died in 1959. They lost two of their children during an earthquake in eastern Turkey in 1938. She came to the United States in 1970 and became an American citizen in 1995. She is survived by her son, Alpuan Atay, and two grandchildren, Turan Atay of Germantown and Orhan Atay of Gaithersburg. A funeral will take place in Izmir, Turkey. Born in Ireland on Nov. 16, 1931, he was the beloved husband of Florence Carolan; loving father of Marie Parker; grandfather of Katie, Brandon, Amy and Michelle; uncle of Marie, Michael, Corey and Rob. "Tony" Zimmerman, 45, of Auburn, Maine, formerly of Germantown, died Jan. 5, 2002, at home. Born Dec. 28, 1956, in Waltham, Mass., he was the son of Sidney M. Zimmerman Jr. of Roanoke, Va., and Claudette Libbey Daniels of Orono, Maine. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Erik D. Zimmerman of Gaithersburg; two sisters, Valerie Zimmerman of Waynesboro, Va., and Nicole Daniels of Nashville, Tenn.; three aunts, Marilyn Willette, Patricia Libbey and MaeFrances Bandy and her husband, William; four great aunts; a great uncle; and three cousins. He was owner and operator of Phoenix Cleaning Services, Inc., of Germantown prior to his recent move to Auburn, Maine. He served in the U.S. Navy after high school. Mr. Zimmerman enjoyed playing golf, fishing, travel, music and reading. He was an avid sports fan. A memorial mass was held Jan. 15 at Ross Manor Chapel, Bangor, maine. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. *****Jan. 30, 2002***** Robert Nolan Olson Robert Nolan Olson, 64, a psychiatrist who practiced in the Washington, D.C. area since the early 1970s, died Jan. 16 at Casey House Hospice in Rockville. He had battled with prostate cancer for more than two years. At the time of his death, he was a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist at Brook Lane Health Services in Smithburg, Md. Until the end of 2000, he was medical director of Town Center Psychiatric Associates in Rockville, and he psychiatry in its Frederick and Rockville offices. From 1997 until his death, he held an appointment as the medical director of the Crossroads Chemical Dependency Program in Frederick. Dr. Olson was medical director and clinical director at Fairbridge Residential Treatment Center in Rockville from 1994-2000, and served as medical director at Frederick Adolescent Day Treatment Center from 1994-1995. He also was medical director of mental health services at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda from 1993- 1995, and was chairman of its Department of Psychiatry from 1989-1992. Since 1972 he had been on the medical staff of Suburban Hospital, and served on numerous committees for the hospital's administration. Dr. Olson was a native of Ontonagon, Mich., and attended the University of Michigan from 1955-1958. He graduated from its medical school in 1962, and was elected to Galen's Society and the Victor Vaughn Society, a special honor for medical students. His medical training began as an intern at Philadelphia General Hospital from 1962-1963. He continued as a psychiatric resident at Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital from 1966-1969, and as a child psychiatric resident there from 1969- 1971. He is also a 1987 graduate of the Baltimore-Washington Psychoanalytic Institute. He served as a U.S. Navy Second Lieutenant with the U.S. Marine Corps as a battalion surgeon from 1963-1965. Dr. Olson's hobbies included collecting art and antiques, attending the theater, gardening and making flower arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Alice S. Olson of Potomac; three daughters, Ingrid O. Landi of California, Verena O. Pierik of New York, and Nora Olson of Baltimore; his father, Nolan F. Olson of Ontonagon, Mich.; two brothers, Kenneth L. Olson of Wisconsin, and John B. Olson of California; and a granddaughter, Mikayla Noelle Landi. Vivian J. Barbour Vivian J. Barbour, 83, of Gaithersburg died Jan. 27, 2002, at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville. She was the wife of Merle R. Barbour, to whom she was married more than 59 years. Born in Hanover, Pa. on Sept. 3, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Wesley G. and Latura I. Worley Garvick. Mrs. Barbour graduated from Eichelberger High School, Hanover, Pa., and was a m ember of Washington Grove Methodist Church in Washington Grove. She was also a member of the Eastern Star in Gaithersburg, where she was a Past Worthy Matron. Mrs. Barbour and her husband owned the former Ben Franklin Store in Gaithersburg. She also worked as a legal secretary for the Montgomery County Courthouse in Rockville and as a legal secretary for Robert Bullard, Esquire of Rockville. She also worked as a secretary to the assistant director of the Department of Energy in Germantown. Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, Robert W. Barbour of Fairfield, Pa.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Nadine Berwager of Hanover, Pa. A funeral service will be held at 1p.m. Thursday at Grace United Church of Christ, 100 Fourth Street, Hanover, Pa. Viewing will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. The Rev. Dr. Bruce P. Briggs, 59, of Montgomery Village, died at home on Jan. 21, 2002. She was born April 4, 1943, in Atlanta, Ga. Ms. Briggs received a bachelor of arts degree from Cortland State University, Cortland, N.Y. She was an executive assistant, Geo-Centers, Inc., Arlington, Va. A member of the Montgomery Village Golf Club (MVGC), she was an eight-time winner, MVGC Women's Club Championship; former Maryland State Golf Association Senior Women's Champion, three-time winner at Maryland State Golf Association, two-woman team championship, Women's District of Columbia Golf Association, winner of various individual events and team competitions. Survivors include her brother, Randolph Briggs of Birmingham, Ala.; two nieces, Nicole Tolbart of Birmingham, Ala., and Katie Briggs of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; three nephews, Brian Briggs, Tiffin, Ohio, Brady Briggs, Lewis Center, Ohio, and Kevin Briggs, Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Evelyn Olson Nelson Evelyn Olson Nelson, 92, of Gaithersburg, died Jan. 22, 2002, at the Asbury Methodist Village, Wilson Health Care Center. She was born in Harrisburg, Pa., Dec. 28, 1909. Mrs. Nelson earned a bachelor of philosophy degree in social service administration from the University of Chicago in 1934. She was a retired teacher. She was a member of Mill Creek Parish United Methodist Church. Survivors include a sister, Ruth Kern of El Paso, Texas; a son, Jeffrey Nelson of Oakland, Md.; two granddaughters, Lisa Serivener of Hagerstown and Lara Frashore of Derwood; and five great grandchildren. She was the wife of Robert Daisey. Born in Newburgh, N.Y., daughter of the late George and Marian McShane Carroll, she moved to the area with her husband in 1970. Mrs. Daisey was a former preschool teacher and a special education instructional assistant at Carl Sandburg Learning Center in Rockville. She was a past PTA president at Meadow Hall Elementary School and Earle B. Wood Middle School, both in Aspen Hill, and a past president of the Carl Sandburg parents group. She also was a past board member of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Autism Society of America. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Amy and husband Ronald Estrain of Olney, Stephen Daisey of Germantown, Robin and husband Christopher Laich of Olney, and Matthew Daisey of Rockville; four grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy McFarlane of Patchogue, N.Y. Thomas Clay Henderson Thomas Clay Henderson, 57, of Wendell, N.C., formerly of Rockville, died Jan. 17 at Raleigh (N.C.) Community Hospital. Mr. Thomas was born in Morgantown, W.Va., on May 9, 1944, to the late Glenn Henderson and Ella Stout Henderson. He was self-employed in land development. Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Marge Kelly Henderson; seven children and step-children, Tina Bowser of Morgantown, Belinda LaMar of Morgantown, Thomas "Butch" Clay Henderson Jr. of Wendell, Melody Henderson of Wendell, Mindy Drabick of Rockville, Sherri Harvey of Morgantown, and Laura Herbert of Rockville; and 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
