Born March 1, 1913, in Pittsburgh, she was the wife of the late W. E. McCoy, who died in 1995. They had been married for 63 years. Mrs. McCoy was a homemaker. She was chosen to be the first toastmistress for the Pittsburgh chapter of the Women's Real Estate Association. Survivors include one daughter, Dolores Penfield, of Germantown, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith McCoy. Clough Isabel Jean Clough, 78, of Rockville, a textile artist and teacher, died at home of a heart ailment on June 1. Born June 16, 1924, in Port Huron, Mich., she and her husband, Henry H. Clough Sr., settled in the Washington, D.C., area after World War II and raised their family in Rockville and Darnestown. As long-standing members of Twinbrook Baptist Church in Rockville, the Clough family contributed to the founding and growth of the congregation. An award-winning rug braider and rug hooker, Mrs. Clough taught those traditional art forms to a new generation of textile artists. Survivors include her husband of 57 years; three children, Henry H. Clough Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., Candice Clough of Germantown, and Camy Clough and her husband Larry Fox of Hyattsville; and grandchildren Kate and Michael Fox of Hyattsville. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Twinbrook Baptist Church, 1001 Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Twinbrook Baptist Church. Charles N. McIntosh Sr. Charles N. McIntosh Sr., 73, of Rockville died May 29 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville. Born Feb. 25, 1930, in Dickerson, he was a son of the late Walter H. and Sadie R. Shaver McIntosh. He was the husband of the late Katherine W. McIntosh, who died in 1999. Mr. McIntosh worked as a carpenter for the Montgomery County Board of Education before retirement. Survivors include five sons, Charles N. McIntosh Jr. of Potomac, Claude H. McIntosh Sr. and wife Lynn of Woodsboro, Matthew W. McIntosh of Rockville, David A. McIntosh of Rockville, and Edward S. McIntosh of Union Bridge; two sisters, Ruth F. Crouch of Mississippi and Margaret Thompson of Virginia; three brothers, John W. McIntosh and Bobby L. McIntosh, both of Mississippi, and Richard H. Barber Funeral Home handled arrangements. Gerald M. Silbert Gerald M. Silbert, 78, of Rockville died May 31 following a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 28, 1924, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Edward and Bertie Silbert. He was the husband of Delores J. Silbert for 52 years. Mr. Silbert was a World War II veteran and spent over 30 years with IBM as a systems engineer. The majority of his career was spent in the Washington, D.C., area with a four-year assignment to Europe in the early 1960s. Mr. Silbert enjoyed writing poetry, had a quick wit, was an avid sports fan, maintained a keen awareness of current events, and enjoyed the accomplishments of his children and their families. He especially loved social and family gatherings, a chance to use his bridge and Scrabble skills or tell a joke, recite scripture from memory, and reminisce about events in his life. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Craig S. Silbert of Crownsville, Jeffrey S. Silbert of Crownsville, Randy J. Silbert of North Potomac, Andrea S. Kohn of Rockville and Curt E. Silbert of Gambrills; one brother, Leonard Silbert of Philadelphia; four daughters-in-law and one son-in- law; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Myrna S. Miller of Philadelphia. A memorial service will be held today at 7 p.m. at Cedarbrook Community Church in Clarksburg. Burrows Connelly of Mount Airy. He was born Sept. 19, 1921, near Rockville, the son of the late Spencer I. Connelly and the late Nina V. Grimes Connelly. He was a self-employed brick mason. He was P.U.F.L. member of American Legion Post 191 in Mount Airy. He was a member of the 17th Airborne Association. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War, where he was a sergeant first class parachute trooper. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debra L. and husband G. Raymond Herche of Mount Airy; a son, Glenn A. Connelly of Mount Airy; a brother, Gene A. Connelly and wife Mary of Petersburg, Pa.; and grandsons Bryan Herche, Zachary Connelly and Matthew Connelly, all of Mount Airy. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Roland, Leroy, Forrest and Russell Connelly, and four sisters, Edna Irene Fling, Mary E. Connelly, Pauline V. Koch and Shirley M. Williams. Mitchell, 75, of Hagerstown, died May 28 in Washington County Hospital. Born Oct. 20, 1927, in New Milford, Conn., he was the son of the late Ruth and John Mitchell. He graduated from Rhea County High School in Dayton, Tenn. He served in the U.S. Army 8th Infantry Regiment 4th Division and received an honorable discharge. He attended art school and worked as a commercial artist for various companies in the Washington, D.C., area. He operated his own company, CM Art Service in the Gaithersburg-Rockville area. He was employed by several surveying companies in Frederick and retired in 1992 from the Gaithersburg Gazette, where he had been the artist for many years. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Muir Mitchell; a son, John W. Mitchell of Martinez, Ga.; a daughter, Janice Campau of Parker, Colo.; grandchildren, Kevin and Karyann Mitchell and Mitchell and Dylan Campau. In addition to his parents, three brothers preceded him in death: Jack Mitchell, David Mitchell and William Mitchell. A memorial service was held Monday at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. The Rev. Gregory Martin officiated. Albert R. Ginsberg Albert R. Ginsberg, 70, of Silver Spring died May 2, 2003, at Holy Cross Hospital. He was a computer programmer and systems analyst with the U.S. Census Bureau's industrial division, retiring in 1994 after 22 years. He was a photographer and book collector, and his New York City collection was exhibited locally several times. He was born April 7, 1933, in the Bronx, N.Y., a son of the late Benjamin and Mildred (Kitzis) Ginsberg. He earned a degree in business administration from what is now the Baruch College of the City University of New York. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan Tassler Ginsberg; a daughter, Erica Ginsberg of Greenbelt; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Gaines. Mr. Ginsberg's ashes were interred at Parklawn Cemetery/Menorah Gardens in Rockville at a private service. A memorial celebration at his home will be held June 29. Mrs. Pohanka worked as a nurse at the National Institutes of Health before retirement. Ms. Keener is also survived by a son, Vernon L. Keener Jr. of Germantown; two daughters, Loretta A. Rodgers of Wheaton and Patricia S. Silva and her husband Ivan of Germantown; a sister, Geraldine M. Alexander Vincent Messier Sr. Alexander Vincent Messier Sr., 79, of Anne Arundel County and formerly of Gaithersburg, died June 4 at the Chesapeake Hospice House in Anne Arundel County. He was a long time resident of Montgomery County. He was born Sept. 7, 1923, in New York City. He was employed by the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department as a police officer and detective. He retired in 1971 after 25 years. He also served eight years as a public defender assistant in Hyattsville and was employed by Marvaco Construction as a safety manager. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Sarah Wilma Dunaway Messier. Mr. Messier is survived by four daughters, Renee M. Slagle of Annapolis, Olivia Jastrezembski of Matawan, N.J., Jennifer Messier of Ridgley and Sarah Messier of Germantown; two sons, Alex V. Messier Jr. of Annapolis and Glen P. Messier of Damascus; one sister, Lillian Joyce of Indian Head; three brothers, Edward Messier of Long Island, N.Y., Robert Messier Sr. of Annapolis and Glen Messier of Washington, D.C.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Emily Hansen, Henrietta Roache and Jeanette Ganoczy; and two brothers, Charles and Howard Messier. He was a major in the U.S. Army Reserves. His rank, service assignments and medals included World War II veteran, Battlefield Commission, Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Dahlquist Laura Viola Lundeen Dahlquist, 93, of Montgomery Village, died May 30 at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., after a brief illness. Mrs. Dahlquist was born in Lamson, Minn., in 1909. She graduated from high school in Dassel, Minn., and became a registered nurse at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis. After marrying Alvin Dahlquist in Glasgow, Mont., and relocating to California, she continued her nursing career at Scripps Mercy Hospital in La Jolla until starting a family. She was widowed in 1955 and returned to Minnesota with her children, where she resumed nursing at the Hutchinson Community Hospital and finally at the Burns Manor nursing home. Several years after her retirement from nursing she moved to Mesa, Ariz., and later to Gaithersburg, where she spent her last 16 years near her daughter's family. She was accomplished at crocheting, stitchery and handicrafts. Survivors include her two children, Kay Permison of North Potomac and Al Dahlquist of Anchorage, Ala.; a brother, Roger Lundeen of Lamson, Minn.; a sister, Connie Flowers of Fort Valley, Ga.; five grandchildren; and one great- grandson. A memorial service will be held for her in Maryland. She will be buried at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in San Diego. Dean Wendell Jensen Dean Wendell Jensen, 80, of Silver Spring died May 18, 2003, of a heart attack at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Washington. He also had Parkinson's disease. He was a prisoner of war during World War II after he was shot down over France in 1944. His military decorations include the Air Medal and a Purple Heart. After the war, he worked in air weapons evaluation at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in Silver Spring. He retired from the government about 1985. Mr. Jensen served on boards with Christ Congregational Church in Silver Spring. He was also a member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War at the veterans hospital and was active in his neighborhood civic association. His left forearm was amputated while he was a prisoner of war in France. Mr. Jensen was born on a farm near Wayne, Nebraska. After the war, he graduated in 1947 with a degree in chemistry from the University of Nebraska . He is survived by his wife of 57 years Betty Jensen of Silver Spring, four sons, Brian, Brennen and Jonathan Jensen, all of Baltimore, Jamisen Jensen of Lincoln, Neb., two sisters, two brothers and three grandchildren. A graveside service with full military honors is scheduled for 11 a.m. July 2 at Arlington National Cemetery. *****June 18, 2003***** Robert G. Johnson Robert George "Bob" Johnson, 83, of Germantown and formerly of Rockville, died June 2, 2003, at Collingswood Nursing Home in Rockville. Born Sept. 7, 1919, in Marinette, Wis., he was a son of John F. and Anna Olson Johnson. He was the husband of Marjorie Johnson for 56 years. Mr. Johnson served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 until he was honorably discharged in 1945. He served in the active combat zone of North Africa as an airplane power plant mechanic. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, four overseas bars, and one Service Stripe Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Johnson graduated from Stephenson High School in Stephenson, Mich. He earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering, with honors, from Michigan College of Mining and Technology in 1951. As a nuclear and fossil fuel power plant engineer, Mr. Johnson and his family moved to various locations in and out of the country, including Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, California and Saudi Arabia. Mr. Johnson and his family moved to Rockville in 1965. In 1981 he became ill and his working career ended. He was a member of the United Methodist Church since childhood. At the time of his death he was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Montgomery Village, where he was a member of the Mature and Methodist Group. His hobbies included designing power plants, business golf outings and golf outings with his friends, creative writing, ballroom dancing, marathon bridge, entertaining, family camping, cookouts and picnics. Survivors in addition to his wife include three children, Judy Kontaxis and her husband Tom of Gaithersburg, Bonnie Duvall and her husband Sam of Germantown, and Douglas Johnson and his wife Nicole Atascadero of Calif.; one sister, Warda A. Compton; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, Donald, Ward and Ward Johnson; and two sisters, Alice Crandall and Marjorie Bergvall. A memorial service will be held June 30 at 2 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church, 20301 Pleasant Ridge Drive, Montgomery Village. Earl Leon Marshall Earl Leon Marshall, 88, died on June 11, 2003, at his home in Laytonsville. Earl was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the only son of Leon Americus and Minnie Roethig Marshall of Cleveland. His parents and sisters, Lucille and Dorothy, preceded him in death. Mr. Marshall graduated from East Cleveland High School and received his undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army, Transportation Corps, and served in World War II in the Pacific. He retired in 1965 from the Department of Defense where he was a transportation specialist at the Pentagon. He married Bette (Elizabeth) Jane Schreiner of Timberlake, S.D., in 1945. They lived in Laytonsville since April 1955. Earl and Bette operated Yesteryear Farms antique village from 1965-99 on their family farm on Hawkins Creamery Road. Earl is survived by his wife Bette of 57 years, and their 15 children, Sherryl Marshall and Russ Lawton of Rockville, Michelle and Stephen Baluch of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Shawn and Dorothy Marshall of Hagerstown, Denise and Bruce Brizendine of Silver Spring, Deneen and Gary Martin of Gaithersburg, Kevin and Christine Marshall of Westminster, Noel Marshall and Bob Warner, Omro, Wisc., Brian and Nancy Marshall of Gaithersburg, Terrence and Cristina Marshall of Silver Spring, Andrea and Fred Chite of Damascus, Kelly and Tim Keiley of Stockbridge, Ga., Erin (Butch) and Carol Marshall of Laytonsville, Renee and Mark Csintyan of Milton, Wisc., Monique and Shelly Fenion of Dayton and Timothy Marshall of Gaithersburg. Born June 22, 1921, in New Castle, Pa., he was a son of the late Angelo Ralph and Isabella Coccoa Metta. He was the husband of Ruth Jordan Metta. Mr. Metta was a graduate of New Castle High School and received his bachelor of arts degree from University of Maryland. He served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years and retired as a warehouse manager for the Leisure World Retirement Center in Silver Spring. He was Protestant. Besides his wife, Mr. Metta is survived by four sons, Victor C. Metta of Columbia, Stanley W. Metta of Gaithersburg, Jon A. Metta of Pennsylvania and Dale C. Metta of Gaithersburg; one daughter, Suzanne R. Metta of Gaithersburg; four sisters, Mary Boazza, Lena Luongo, Dora Mitchell, all of Pennsylvania, and Dena Burke of Michigan; eight grandchildren and one great grandson. Reupke Dorothy Timmer Reupke, 69, of Olney, formerly of Readington Township, N.J., died June 5 at her home. Born Oct. 7, 1933, in Paterson, N.J., she was a daughter of Christine Nyhoff Timmer of Easton, Pa., and the late William Timmer. She was the wife of William Reupke for 19 years. Mrs. Reupke moved to Olney 18 years ago. She was the office manager for Chevy Chase Supermarket in Chevy Chase, and retired in 1998. She was a member of Flemington Baptist Church and choir in Flemington, N.J., Redland Baptist Church in Derwood and the National Christian Choir in Gaithersburg. Born on Aug. 25, 1948, in Abington, Pa., he was the son of Eleanor G. Allen of Boyertown, Pa., and the late John C. Allen. Surviving besides his mother are his children, Christopher Allen of New Jersey and Jennifer Utan of Arizona; two brothers, Robert and John Allen, both of Pennsylvania; his fiancée, Laurie Jean Leemaster of Dickerson and her daughter, Denise Jean Price; and one granddaughter. Lloyd Welch Pogue Lloyd Welch Pogue of Chevy Chase, 103, a pioneer in the field of civil aviation and a former Washington attorney who later represented major airlines, died May 10, 2003, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. From January 1942 through mid-1946, Mr. Pogue was chairman of the fledgling Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), the government agency that, together with its predecessor agency, the Civil Aeronautics Authority, regulated civil aviation in the United States and promoted its development from the time of its creation in 1938 until deregulation in 1978. After leaving the CAB in 1946, Mr. Pogue established a Washington law firm, Pogue & Neal, which over time represented several major airlines and other industry clients. That firm merged in 1967 with a Cleveland-based firm that became known as Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue. Mr. Pogue was managing partner of the Washington office of that firm from 1967 to 1979, and he retired in 1981. For 20 years following his retirement, Mr. Pogue remained active, writing, speaking and traveling the world ­ including Australia and New Zealand at age 99. He personally drove round-trip from Washington to St. Augustine, Florida, in 2001 at age 101, and continued to enjoy driving until the week of his death. He graduated from high school in Red Oak, Iowa, in 1917, attended Grinnell College and enlisted there in the Student Army Training Corps of the U.S. Army before transferring to the University of Nebraska, where he became president of the student body. After returning to work on the family farm for a while, he completed his studies at Nebraska and graduated in 1924. He then studied law at the University of Michigan Law School, from which he graduated in 1926. Mr. Pogue is survived by three sons, Richard Welch Pogue of Cleveland, Ohio; Dr. William Lloyd Pogue of San Diego, Calif.; and Dr. John Marshall Pogue of Chevy Chase; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a niece. Mr. Pogue and his wife, Mary Ellen (Edgerton) Pogue, who died at age 96 in September 2001, were married for 75 years. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Great Choir and Nave of the Washington National Cathedral, in Washington, D.C. Burial will be private at Quantico National Cemetery. Lutz Lucille Kuster Lutz, 80, a resident of Boyds, died June 19, 2003, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville. She was the wife of the late Harold Lutz. Mrs. Lutz was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and crafts. A lifelong member of Boyds Presbyterian Church, she was a Sunday school superintendent. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Cosner and husband Steve of Germantown; a son, Harold Lutz Jr. and his wife Trish of Walkersville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Kuster; and two sisters, Joanne Nelson and Eleanor Chaconas. Born June 26, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Tomchak Bubbins. Mr. Bubbins served in Korea as a soldier in the United States Army. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was the former owner of Movies to Go and Fast Mail in Mount Airy. He graduated from Henderson University, Arkansas, with a major in accounting and minors in economics, math and English in 1965. He also earned an M.B.A. from Syracuse University, N.Y., in 1996. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Joseph Jackson, Max Bubbins, Juli Bubbins and David Bubbins, all of Gaithersburg; three step- children, Fran Inman of Martinsburg, W. Va., Jean Marc Henriette of College Park and Marie Claire of Fredericksburg, Va; two grandchildren and six step- grandchildren; four siblings, Harry Bubbins of Yonkers, NY, and John Bubbins, Jim Bubbins and Victoria Dixon, all of Amsterdam, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. A 1977 graduate of Pottsville High School, Mr. Duncan served as a Ranger in the U.S. Army. He was a management information technologist for Smiths Aerospace Electronic Systems in Germantown. David R. McClain David R. McClain, 19, of Rockville died June 22, 2003, in Rockville from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born March 3, 1984, in Silver Spring, he was the son of Farideh McClain of Rockville and Donald McClain Sr. of Florida. Mr. McClain graduated from Kennedy High School and attended Montgomery College. He was preparing to transfer to the University of Maryland, College Park this coming school year. He attended Iranian Church of Washington, D.C., in Silver Spring. Fehlner, 87, a longtime Silver Spring resident, died of pneumonia May 27, 2003 at the Tabor Manor Care Center, Tabor, Iowa. He was a retired mechanical and aeronautical engineer. Mr. Fehlner was a charter member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Silver Spring, was active as a board member of the Quaint Acres Citizens Association and Twin Farms Pool and was an advocate of protecting the Northwest Branch area of parkland near his home. Mr. Fehlner was born Aug. 8, 1915 in Dolgeville, N.Y. After graduating from high school at age 16, he earned a degree in mechanical engineering in 1937 from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Mr. Fehlner began his professional career in the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va., where he worked in the wind testing tunnels. During World War II, he helped in the development of the P-51 Mustang aircraft. After the war, he worked with the Navy at the David Taylor Model Basin in Washington, D.C., where he was involved in naval design. In 1955, he joined the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, where he retired in 1986. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Frances Ann Kirby Fehlner, in 1997. He is survived by his sister Margaret Barager of Buffalo, N.Y., and children Christine Dodd of Glenelg, Paul Fehlner of Dyke, Va., Katherine Roberts of Columbia, Angela Curley of New Market and Kresenz Monday and Frances Fehlner of Tabor, Iowa. Thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive him.
