Mirkay Francis Michael "Frank" Mirkay, 64, of Potomac died at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda on July 30, 2003. Born Sept. 24, 1938, in St. Louis, Mo., he was a son of the late Elizabeth and Frank Mirkay. He was the husband of Joan R. Mirkay. Mr. Mirkay received his undergraduate and master's degrees from St. Louis University. He had a successful career in the federal government with more than a decade spent with the Central Intelligence Agency. He was a senior engineer with systems engineering. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Brian M. Mirkay and his wife Tammie of Linden, Va., and Brandon P. Mirkay and his wife Kelly of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Deborah A. Knapp and her husband Steven of Olney; one stepson, Joseph M. Dalton and his wife Mary of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Richard A. Mirkay of St. Louis, Mo.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deanna M. Mirkay. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church Monday. Burial is in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Potomac. Nolan Kevin Scott Nolan, 46, of Natick, Mass., formerly of Bethesda, died July 29, 2003, shortly after being admitted to Leonard Morse Hospital at Metro West Medical Center, Natick. Born Oct. 14, 1956, at Lansdtuhl Air Force Base, Germany, he was a son of Gerald Nolan of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Patricia (Kinder) Nolan of Luray, Va. He was the husband of Margaret M. (Weidenbruoh) Nolan. Mr. Nolan was a 1974 graduate of Creighton Prep School, Nebraska, and earned his bachelor of science degree from Georgetown University in 1980. He was the chief financial officer for Unicco Services Inc. of Newton at the time of his death. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was active with the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 706 in Potomac. Survivors, in addition to his wife and parents, include three children, Christopher S. Nolan, Katie M. Nolan, and J. Bryan Nolan, all of Natick, Mass.; one brother, Steven T. Nolan of Colorado Springs, Colo., and one sister, Julie N. Papa of Fairfax, Va. A funeral Mass was celebrated in the chapel of Georgetown Prepatory School, North Bethesda, on Monday. The Rev. Bill George S.J. officiated. Burial is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Arrangements were made by John Everett and Sons Funeral Home in Natick, Mass. Larry L. Daymude Larry L. Daymude, 66, of Mount Airy, died July 28, 2003, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring. Born March 27, 1937, in Washington, D.C., he was a son of the late G. Leonard and Maud B. Howes Daymude. He attended Kensington Elementary School and Junior High School, Fort Union Military Academy in Virginia and Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring. He was a member of the Kensington Baptist Church. He was a past member of the Damascus Lions Club. He worked for G. Leonard Daymude and Co. Inc. from 1946 until he became the owner in 1972. He was a collector of home amusements such as Emmett Kelly's, clocks, watches and Redskin memorabilia. He was also an avid Redskins fan. He is survived by his wife, Jean L. Daymude; three sons: Larry Leonard Daymude II of California, Scott Allen Daymude and his wife Lisa of Monrovia, and Jamie Christopher Daymude and his wife Deborah of Damascus; four grandchildren; two sisters: Shirley J. Curtis of Silver Spring and Amelia Ann Patton of Monrovia; and one brother, Gerald Gilbert Daymude of Germantown. Funeral services were held Thursday. The Rev. Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville. Marcia Haggard Marcia Shaffer Haggard, 64, of Silver Spring died July 21, 2003, of lung cancer at the Forest Glen Nursing Home. She was a piano teacher and accompanist. She was a member of the Friday Morning Music Club in Washington and Christ Congregational United Church of Christ in Silver Spring, where she frequently accompanied the choir and vocalists. As a college student, she sang with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She also taught piano and music at Calvary Lutheran School in Silver Spring. Mrs. Haggard was born July 24, 1938, in Newark, N.J. and grew up in Boston. After she graduated from Radcliffe College, she married her husband, Gale. Following her husband's military service, they moved to Silver Spring. where he became a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. She was treated with radium as an infant for a birthmark on her lip, and experienced pain in later years. Because of this, Mrs. Haggard testified in 1994 before a presidential advisory committee on human radiation experiments. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Loretta Kay Haggard of St. Louis and Lynne Sandra Rumney of Minot, N.D., and two grandchildren. Altobelli Matthew John Altobelli, 18, of Olney died June 27, 2003, in an ATV accident in Damascus. Born Dec. 21, 1984, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, he was a son of Ilene Jenkins of Olney and Mark Altobelli of Beltsville. Mr. Altobelli was a 2003 graduate of Sherwood High School. He was an active sportsman and a member of the Izaak Walton League. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a stepfather, Mike Jenkins of Olney; a brother, Michael Altobelli of Olney; a stepbrother, Todd Jenkins; a stepsister, Amy Jenkins; his grandparents, John and Pat McDonough and Anne Altobelli; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Alfred Altobelli. Funeral services were held July 2 at St. Peter's Church in Olney. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Aspen Hill. Arrangements were made by Collins Funeral Home in Silver Spring. David Ezekiel David Ezekiel, 72, formerly of Bethesda, died of lung cancer June 20, 2003, in Clarksville, Tenn. He was the son of the late Mordecai and Lucille Ezekiel of Bethesda. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty Ezekiel of Clarksville, Tenn.; a son, Michael Ezekiel of Clarksville, Tenn.; a brother, Jonathan Ezekiel of Seattle, Wash.; and one grandson. Johnson Alma Ruth Johnson, 88, of Gaithersburg, died July 29, 2003, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville. Born in 1915 in Baltimore, she was the wife of the late Raymond Franklin Johnson, who died in 1999. They had been married 64 years. Mrs. Johnson retired from the Leon Perskie Studio in Baltimore after 30 years of service. She lived at the Asbury United Methodist Home in Gaithersburg since 1986 and was very active in the Asbury community where she held a weekly reading class at the Kindley Building. She was a member of the Cape St. Claire United Methodist Church in Annapolis. Survivors include two daughters, Bonny Ray Stiner of Annapolis and Joy Stickney of Virginia Beach, Va., five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Aug. 31 at noon at Cape St. Claire United Methodist Church, 855 Chestnut Tree Drive, Annapolis. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Western Cemetery in Baltimore. Shaun Tomas Hunt Shaun Tomas "Tom" Hunt, 20, of Collegeville, Pa., a former Gaithersburg resident, died in a car crash July 12, 2003, in Perkiomen, Pa. Born Sept. 6, 1982, in Salem, Mass., he was the son of Shaun and Susan Hunt of Collegeville. He attended Strawberry Knoll Elementary School, St. Jane De Chantal, Gaithersburg Middle School, Watkins Mills High School and Gaithersburg High School. His family moved to Collegeville when he was in 10th grade. He was involved in many high school sports in both Maryland and Pennsylvania. After high school, he briefly attended Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pa. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Seamus P. Hunt and Edward H. "Ned" Hunt, both of Collegeville; and his grandmothers, Helen Boodry of Clinton, Mass., and Dorothy Hunt of South Darthmouth, Mass. Virginia Coughlan Virginia Gott Coughlan, 102, a former Silver Spring resident and member of St. Michael's Church, died of pneumonia July 31, 2003, at her home in the Ginger Grove retirement community in Annapolis. Coughlan, born in Poolesville, moved to Silver Spring in 1929 when she married J. Fendall Coughlan, a former Montgomery County Circuit Court judge who died in 1973. Their home at 8800 Georgia Avenue in the Woodside neighborhood was sold in 1970 and became the present Woodside Park. Coughlan, a former employee of B.F. Saul Company in Washington, D.C., moved to Ginger Grove in 1997. The couple had been very active at St. Michael's Church and had enjoyed its bowling league and bridge club. Coughlan is survived by three daughters, Margaret Ann Booth of Germantown, Patricia Clare Donovan of Annapolis, and Barbara Harding of Littleton, Colo.; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews. Her other daughter, Mary Virginia Campello, died in 2001. Chatham Towers "Bud" Nottingham Sr. Chatham Towers "Bud" Nottingham Sr., 87, of Ormond Beach, Fla., formerly of the Silver Spring/Wheaton area, died Aug. 10, 2003, from complications following colon cancer surgery. He had worked as superintendent of Licenses and Inspection for the Washington, D.C., government until he retired in 1973 after 40 years of service. Mr. Nottingham was the co-founder and vice president of Guardian Federal Savings and Loan Association. Mr. Nottingham was born Oct. 5, 1915, in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Lawrence Nottingham and Virginia Towers Nottingham. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Nottingham of Ormond Beach, Fla., son Chatham Towers "Buzz" Nottingham Jr. of Pompano Beach, Fla.; daughter Candace Towers Nottingham Marceron of Ocean Pines, Md.; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mott's Children's Hospital-University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Melissa was an American Red Cross poster child for blood donor recruitment. She recently completed the first grade at Beltsville Adventist School. She was a member of Beltsville Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was born February 28, 1996, at Georgetown Hospital, Washington, D.C. She is survived by her parents, Staci J. and James L. Froelich, a brother, Mark L. Froelich and a sister, Kaitlyn J. Froelich, all of Takoma Park; grandparents Judith and Jesse Henderson of Avon Park, Fla., and Marilyn E. Froelich of Woodbine. A service was held Sunday at Beltsville Seventh-day Adventist Church. Urte Walter McNellis Urte Walter McNellis, 67, of Potomac, died of pancreatic cancer Aug. 12, 2003, at Montgomery Hospice, Rockville. Mrs. McNellis was born in Germany on April 11, 1936. She was a language teacher, a volunteer for the Montgomery County recycling program, and a member of the Sierra Club, the Potomac Conservancy and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Donald McNellis of Potomac; two sons, Timothy W. McNellis of State College, Pa., and Mark G. McNellis of Gaithersburg; a sister, Gerlind Ritgen of Germany; and a brother, Ulrich Walter of Germany. Arrangements were handled by DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg, and services were private. Pitts Virginia Masters, 77, of Silver Spring, formerly of Chevy Chase, died Aug. 11, 2003, at home. Born Oct. 22, 1925, in Washington, D.C., she was a daughter of the late Alfred G. Masters and Edith Wirgman. Ms. Pitts was a graduate of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. Her marriage to Harry B. Pitts ended in divorce. Survivors include four children, Harry Collier and his wife Lorna of Denver, Colo., Suzanne M. Pitts and her former husband Bryan Poms of Warrenton, Va., Andrew C. Pitts and his wife Marian McConbrey of Washington, D.C., and Douglas M. Pitts and his wife Denise of Frederick; eight grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Fullerton William "Max" Fullerton, 85, a former member of the Gaithersburg City Council and Planning Commission, died Aug. 16, 2003, at the Goodwill Mennonite Assisted Living Home in Grantsville, Md. He was a Gaithersburg resident for 47 years and a retired chief of the Administrative Branch/Division of International Affairs of the Department of Energy. He served 10 years as a Gaithersburg city councilman, six years on the city's Planning Commission, and he was a former chairman of the Gaithersburg Bicentennial Coordinating Committee. He was a member and former president of the Gaithersburg Lions Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge and Epworth United Methodist Church. He was involved in numerous volunteer and civic organizations. Born in Hazelton, Kan., he attended the Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo. In 1942, he graduated from the Army Air Force Officer Candidate School in Miami Beach, Fla., as a corporal. He was appointed captain of the Finance Department in 1946 and was honorably discharged from service in 1953. He received the American Service Medal, Army Air Force Certificate of Appreciation, and World War II Victory Medal. He was married to the late Ireta Laverne Parrent Fullerton for 58 years. He is survived by two daughters, Paulette Fullerton of Grantsville and Sandra Hackman of Oakland, Md.; a sister, Pauline Christianson of Wichita, Kan.; three grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and two step-granddaughters. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Epworth United Methodist Church, 9008 Rosemont Drive, Gaithersburg. Arrangements were handled by Newman Funeral Homes in Grantsville. Wesley Clark Thommesen Wesley Clark Thommesen, 71, of Gaithersburg, died Aug. 9, 2003, in Gaithersburg. He was born in West Allis, Wis., on July 23,1932, to the late Olaf and Helga Thommesen. Mr. Thommesen attended West Allis Central High School, graduating in 1950. He served as a member of the National Guard for two years and served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years. He was stationed in Greece, Egypt, Taiwan, Sudan, the Great Lakes region and Bethesda as a master chief medical corpsman. While serving he earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Southern Illinois. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. He was an active member of the VFW Post 9862, Gaithersburg, last serving as adjutant and trustee. He was also an active member of the Fleet Reserve in Annapolis. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Fusako "Dee" Thommesen; sister Grace Thommesen of Madison, Wis.; and brothers Milton of Madison, Ivar of West Allis, and Nels of Tomahawk, Wis. Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20879. Kathryn M. Reynolds Kathryn Miller Reynolds, 95, of Gaithersburg, died Aug. 16, 2003, of a heart ailment in Gaithersburg. Born April 18, 1908, in Grafton, W.Va., she was the wife of the late Cedric O. Reynolds and the daughter of the late Bessie Poe and Clay Vaden Miller Sr. She attended West Virginia Teachers College. She served on the Sibley Guild Executive Committee in the positions of secretary, vice president and president, as well as on the board of trustees in at-large and social relations capacities. She provided many years of volunteer service to Bethesda-Chevy Chase Meals on Wheels. She was an honorary member in the Women's Society of Christian Service and a member of the P.E.O. Society. Survivors include her son Clarence M. Reynolds of Reston, Va., and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by siblings Virginia Hood, Clay Miller Jr., and Benjamin Miller. Before moving to Montgomery Village 15 years ago, she resided in Silver Spring for 25 years. Born Dec. 17, 1925, in Jacksonville, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Lewis J. and Agnes Worrell. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Raymond J. Henchy of Montgomery Village; one son, Alan R. Henchy of Montgomery Village; one daughter, LuAnn Henchy of Germantown; and a brother, Lewis Worrell of Orlando, Fla. A son, Jimmy Henchy, predeceased Mrs. Henchy. Funeral services were private. Harding, 91, of Charles Town, W.Va., formerly of Gaithersburg, died Aug. 13, 2003, at Shenandoah Health Village Center in Charles Town. Mrs. Harding was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Nortonsville, Va., the daughter of the late Mack and Fannie Mae Shifflett. She was married to the late Benjamin Joseph Harding, who died in 1979. Mrs. Harding was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Redlyn, Md. She was a volunteer in the soup kitchen at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Gaithersburg and a former member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the YMCA. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Marie Burdette of Charles Town; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three foster children, Pearl Payne, Christine Bradshaw and Shirley Burdette, all of Gaithersburg. Burton and the late Christian H. Behnke. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 17, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Alf and Lena Vanhusen Nelson. Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Burton Raab and her husband William of Germantown; one granddaughter; one grandson; and one great-grandson. Services and burial were private. Born Feb. 26, 1960, in Olney, he was the son of Shelby Jean Hunt Butcher of Frederick and the late James Willis Adcock Sr. Mr. Adcock worked as an engineering technician with the U.S. Department of the Navy. In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include three children, Jacquelyn Adcock, Danielle Adcock and Dakota Adcock, all of Damascus; one brother, Jeffrey Adcock of Libertytown; and three sisters, Pamela Emmett of New Jersey, Kim Johnson of New Market, and Kelly Hagy of Frederick. Born April 4, 1931, in Urbana, he was a son of the late Stuart L. and Mabel E. Stup Geisbert. He was the husband of Molly Ann Pearre Geisbert for 49 years. Mr. Geisbert worked as a carpenter before his retirement. Little Charles Perry Little, 62, of Olney died Aug. 6, 2003, at his home. Born Feb. 25, 1941, in Amigo, W.Va., he was a son of the late Julian Hood and Hazel L. Vines Little. He was the husband of Eleanor M. Little. Mr. Little served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965. He was an information technical manager for the federal government before retirement. Born March 4, 1913, in Frostburg, he was a son of the late Thomas C. and Marion Williams Geary. He was the husband of Margaret Truly Geary for 66 years. Mr. Geary graduated from Bell High School in Frostburg and worked for Celanese Corp. in Cumberland for 20 years before relocating to Gaithersburg, where he worked for the Maryland State Highway Commission. He retired after 20 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gaithersburg and served 17 years as a head usher. He was an athlete and lifelong sports enthusiast and enjoyed participating in and watching sports, especially baseball and auto racing. He formerly attended Rockville United Methodist Church. Born March 18, 1922, in Norway, she was the daughter of the late Aanen and Margit Eriksen Nilsen. In 1938, Mrs. Atwood immigrated to the United States with her mother, brother and sister to join their father. Mr. Fowlkes held a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y., and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953- 1957.
