Dixon and Mary Agnes Sullivan. She was the wife of James A. Robertson for 50 years. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include seven children, James A. Robertson Jr., Mary Jane Sasser, Susan Rubritz, Paul Robertson, Beth Robertson, Douglas Robertson and Janice Pauline; one niece; and 12 grandchildren. Miller James Robert Miller, 76, of Rockville, a prominent Montgomery County trial lawyer, died Oct. 24, 2003, of acute leukemia at Casey House in Derwood. Born Oct. 31, 1926, in Kokomo, Indiana, he was a son of the late Homer R. and Mary Jane Miller. He was the husband of Joan S. Miller for 37 years. Mr. Miller graduated from Coolidge High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1945. He earned his juris doctorate degree from George Washington University Law School in 1949 and became a member of the Maryland Bar in November 1949. On Dec. 1, 1949, Mr. Miller and his older brother, Ralph, opened a law office in Montgomery County. In 1954 he was appointed an assistant state's attorney for Montgomery County. With then-State's Attorney Alger Barbee and then-Deputy State's Attorney Len Kardy, Mr. Miller was a member of a part-time team that prosecuted all of Montgomery County's criminal and traffic cases. For his 54 years of law practice in Montgomery County, Mr. Miller became the first and only recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Montgomery County Bar Association. From 1972 to 1973 he was president of the Montgomery County Bar Association. In addition to his two brothers, who were judges, Mr. Miller's father and grandfather were lawyers. His great-grandfather was a county judge in Nebraska. In addition to his wife, he is survived by Survivors in addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Rondi E. Finlay, 73, of Gaithersburg, formerly of Bethesda, died Oct. 26, 2003, of heart failure at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. Born March 1, 1930, in Providence, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Pemberton Killeen and Helen Keith. She was the wife of Samuel J. Finlay for 52 years. Mrs. Finlay attended Douglas College in New Jersey for three years. Besides her husband, she is survived by four children, Patricia Weil and her husband, Rich, of Ashland, Ohio, Susan Gourley and her husband, Rick, of Northbrook, Ill., David Finlay and his wife, Robin, of Olney, and Catherine Finlay of Chestertown; one sister, Patricia Hays of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; and four grandchildren. Jones Ruth Ridgway Jones, 88, of Montgomery Village, formerly of Scotia, N.Y., died of pneumonia on Nov. 2, 2003, at Montgomery Village Health Care. Born May 30, 1915, in Roanoke, Va., she was a daughter of Walter W. and Cora B. Ridgway. She was the wife of Dr. William Burnett Jones Jr. for 61 years. Mrs. Jones earned a bachelor of arts degree from Roanoke College in 1938 and taught elementary school for four years prior to her marriage. She was a volunteer at Ellis Hospital of Schenectady, N.Y., and at the Board of Elections in Schenectady, N.Y. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Walter Jones and his wife, Perlita, of Gaithersburg and Richard Jones and his wife, Lesley, of Westford, Mass.; one brother, Walter Ridgway Jr. of Glade Springs, Va.; and five grandchildren. Born Dec. 22, 1920, in Douglas County, Neb., he was the son of Arthur and Marjorie F. Olson. He was the husband of Barbara T. Olson, from whom he was separated. Mr. Olson earned his doctorate from the University of Washington in 1960 and worked at the National Bureau of Standards, now the National Institute of Standards and Technology, from 1961 until his retirement in 1987. He was awarded the Silver Medal Award for Meritorious Federal Service from the Department of Commerce in 1973. Geiger Hackley, 76, formerly of Rockville, died Oct. 25, 2003, at her home in Fayette, Mo., after a short illness. Born Aug. 13, 1927, in Columbia, Mo., she was the daughter of the late A. Ross and Martha Palmer Hutchison. She married Norman A. Geiger on June 5, 1949. He preceded her in death in 1972. She lived in Rockville from 1970 until Jan. 3, 1992, when she married Leon Hackley of Fayette. She lived in Fayette until her death. Mrs. Hackley graduated from Fayette High School in 1944 and Central College (Fayette) in 1948. She taught at Fayette High School for a short time. She was a tireless worker for her church and community. While living in Rockville, she was a member of Rockville United Methodist Church and served in the Adult Fellowship Sunday School, Family Council, Rockville Fish, Community Ministries, Manna Food, the Clothing Room, Meals on Wheels, Rotary Club luncheons, blood platelet donations and other activities. After moving to Fayette, she continued to be actively involved in many programs in her church and community. She is survived by her husband; three children, Carol Ward and husband Richard of Charlottesville, Va., Paul Geiger and wife Sue of Damascus, and Jean Brendecke and husband Jeffrey of Kirkland, Wash.; four grandchildren, two great- grandchildren, three stepchildren and three step-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Sue Ferry of New Franklin, Mo.; and other family members and friends. An infant brother, John Hutchison, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Oct. 28 at First Christian Church in Fayette and burial was in Fayette City Cemetery. Evarista Riccio Evarista Riccio, 78, of the Bronx, N.Y., died Nov, 2, 2003 at the Montifore Hospital Center in the Bronx, N.Y. Born Oct. 7, 1925, in Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Rafael Rivera and Leonora Falcon. She was the wife of Carmine Riccio. Mrs. Riccio was an entertainer who appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and recorded several Spanish love songs. Surviving in addition to her husband are four children, Monique Allia of Damascus, Carmine Riccio Jr., Joseph Yordan of Arizona and Rafael Yordan of Texas; one sister, Rebecca Rivera; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Desiree Ferretti. Born Sept. 24, 1922, in Ohio, he was the son of the late David Chenault Sr. and Bernice Purcell. He was the husband of the late Lucille Chenault, who died in 2001. Mr. Chenault served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945, and held a bachelor's degree from Howard University. Survivors include nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Chenault III. Bruening Robert John Bruening, 64, a physicist retired from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, died Oct. 31, 2003, at his home in Kensington of a brain tumor. Born in Baltimore, Mr. Bruening graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a bachelor of arts degree in physics. He worked at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS), now the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), from 1960-94 in the field of optical measurement research and development. His research included infrared instrument development applied to infrared calibrations. During his career, Mr. Bruening was a member of the Optical Society of America (OSA). He held every office in the National Capital Section of the OSA. He gave many talks in his field and contributed numerous papers in professional journals. Following his retirement, Mr. Bruening remained active at NIST, conducting student tours and acting as a judge at local student science fairs. Mr. Breuning is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elizabeth Fiskerbeck Bruening of Kensington; two sisters, Betty Hoskins of Worchester, Mass., and Grace Bruening of San Anselmo, Calif.; two aunts; and several nieces. Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday with committal at Parklawn Memorial Park. Charles Franklin Dove Charles F. "Bud" Dove, 65, of Gaithersburg, died Nov. 6, 2003, at his home. Born June 27, 1938, in Buck Lodge, Md., he was a son of the late Charles Homer and Mabel Catherine Dove. He was the husband of Phyllis J. Dove. Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Shannah J. Dove-Hash of Gaithersburg, Stacy Dwayne Dove of Gaithersburg and Eulana L. Dove of Damascus; one sister, Betty Campbell of LaPlata; and a brother, Roy Dove of West Virginia; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Burger. Mr. Dove attended Gaithersburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-64. He worked for the Maryland State Road Department as a truck driver for approximately 12 years. He retired from the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission after 13 years of service in maintenance. Mr. Dove was a member of the Laytonsville Baptist Church and was a member of the Damascus American Legion Post No. 171. He was active in the bingo fund- raising projects and was affectionately known by his friends there as "Mikey." Funeral services were held on Monday, at Muriel H. Dunbar James Weldon Dunbar, 80, of Germantown, a longtime Gaithersburg resident, died Nov. 7, 2003, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. Born Aug. 14, 1923, in Danville, Va., he was the son of the late Robert H. Dunbar and Madie L. Brown. He was the husband of Genevieve S. Dunbar for 58 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, Michael J. Dunbar of Mount Airy and Lea P. Dunbar of Gaithersburg, and three grandchildren. Pavlock Sr., 88, of Rockville, formerly a 50-year resident of Silver Spring, died from Alzheimer's disease Nov. 9, 2003, at Collingswood Nursing Home. Born Sept. 12, 1915, in Providence, R.I., he was the son of John Zalukopna and Mary Babian. Mr. Pavlock was educated in the Catholic Orphan Home. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a sergeant in H Company stationed out of Camp Berkeley from 1942 to 1944. He also served at Pearl Harbor and in the Asian-Pacific Theater. After his discharge from the Army in 1945, Mr. Pavlock accepted a job in sales with American Home Products in New York. He then served as the general division manager with Morton Manufacturing Co. in Lynchburg, Va., from 1945 to 1947. In 1947 he went to work for Craighill & James in Lynchburg, then in 1950 became the Washington area district representative for Baltimore Paint & Chemical Co. In 1958 he became the Washington district representative for Harrison Paint of Cameron, Ohio, and worked in that position until 1970, when he formed the Harrison-May Co. and later the American Fair Trial Association. Mr. Pavlock served as president of the Sligo-Branview Community Association, president of the Shepard Park Lions Club from 1960 to 1961, and was a member of the Montgomery County Human Relations Commission in the mid 1960s. In his later years, he assisted veterans in obtaining their benefits while serving as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Judge Advocate in his VFW post in Wheaton. In 1962, Mr. Pavlock ran as a Republican in the Maryland gubernatorial race. Survivors include two children, Joseph L. Pavlock Jr. of Silver Spring and Pamela Fryer of Germantown; three stepchildren, Laura, Brian and Darren Fryer of Germantown; and three grandchildren. His marriage to Gwen Edwards ended in divorce. He was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Brunn; and two brothers, John Zalukopna Jr. and Frank Zalukopna. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery on Nov. 20. Adrian E. Tyler Adrian E. Tyler, 27, of Rockville died Nov. 9, 2003, at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park. Born Feb. 16, 1976, in Maryland, he was the son of Eugene A. and Jonee P. Tyler. Mr. Tyler was a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Jamiah Mason-Tyler of Rockville; one sister, Anntonette Tyler of Rockville; and one brother, Stephen A. Tyler of Rockville. She was a member of the Citizens Group of Potomac, where she orchestrated keeping building in Potomac limited. She is survived by her son, Andrew C. Thompson David Bennett Thompson, 69, of Silver Spring and Statesville, N.C., died on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Georgetown University Hospital of heart complications. He was a retired bank executive. Born May 18, 1934, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Bingley W. Thompson and Elsie Gregory Thompson of University Park. Mr. Thompson attended Northwestern High School in University Park and received his banking degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. He married Amelia Nell McCubbins on April 19, 1957. In addition to his wife, Mr. Thompson also leaves behind a daughter, Laura Ann Thompson Poholski of Silver Spring; a grandson, Daniel Poholski; and a granddaughter, Rachel Leigh Poholski. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Walter Washburn and Philena Hanna Skelton. Her husband, Robert W. King Sr., died in 1985. They were married for 53 years. She was an active member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church from 1938-89. An accomplished artist, Ms. King was a member of the Rehoboth Art League and had several gallery showings. She was also a member of the Newcomer Club and the Women's Club of Bethesda. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Swanson of Woodbine, Md., and Sarah K. Spencer James Wendall Spencer, 59, of Sharpsburg, Md., formerly of Sandy Spring, died Nov. 15, 2003, at his home. Born July 20, 1944, in Olney, he was the son of the late Wendall Ernest and Margaret Leishear Spencer. He was the husband of Audrey Ann (Jones) Spencer for 18 years. Mr. Spencer worked for the Montgomery County government as a sign fabricator and retired in 1993. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Antietam Post 236 American Legion in Sharpsburg. Besides his wife, Mr. Spencer is survived by a stepdaughter, Patricia A. DiPlacido of Inwood, W.Va.; three stepsons, Edward B. Moore of Knoxville, Md., Guy A. Moore III of Union Bridge, Md., and J. Kelly Moore of Sharpsburg; and 10 step grandchildren. Yates, 48, of Dixon, Mo., formerly of Damascus, died Nov. 12, 2003, in an automobile accident in St. Louis, Mo. Born July 21, 1955, in Boulder, Colo., he was the son of Richard and Peggy Yates of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Damascus. He was the husband of Major Renee Yates for six years. Lt. Col. Yates was a 1973 graduate of Damascus High School and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and was commissioned into the regular Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers in 1977. He earned a master of business administration degree from Webster College. Lt. Col. Yates' military career included assignments at Fort Bliss, Texas, Hanau and Mannheim Germany, Saudi Arabia, Fort Ord, Calif., and Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. He was awarded numerous awards and badges during his military career including the Legion of Merit. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait and Saudi Arabia) and the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars for his service in the Gulf War. His hobbies included skiing, motorcycling, scuba diving and traveling. She was a tireless worker for her church and community. Gertrude Lowy Gertrude Lowy, 87, who in retirement lived in Rockville for 25 years, died at Rockville Nursing Home on Oct. 24, 2003. She was a resident of the Revitz House in Rockville for 11 years until May of this year. Mrs. Lowy and her husband, the late Oscar Lowy, lived in Rochester, N.Y., after they immigrated to the United States in 1955. She worked as a seamstress at the Bonds Factory in that city. She was born in Trest and grew up near Pilzen in the Czech Republic. She was educated there and in Switzerland and spoke six languages. After their marriage in 1939, the Lowys were honeymooning in Italy when their homeland was invaded and World War II broke out. They spent the war years in France and England, later returning home for three years. Just before the Communists invaded Czechoslovakia, the family found refuge in the newly established state of Israel, where they lived for seven years. The Spielberg Shoah Foundation recorded Gertrude Lowy's war experiences. In retirement, Mrs. Lowy volunteered regularly at the Isaac Franck Jewish Public Library in Rockville. She was an avid bridge player and loved to travel, read and crochet. After her marriage, she and her husband owned and operated Town & Country Inn Restaurant in Wheaton, and they raised and trained thoroughbred racehorses and maintained several farms in Montgomery County. Later she worked at the National Institutes of Health as an administrative assistant in Neurological Grant Studies. In January 2002, she moved back to Brewer because of failing health. Mr. Woodfield was a 1938 graduate of Damascus High School and an honor graduate of Strayer College of Accounting in Washington, D.C. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served as a master sergeant in the 58th Finance Disbursement Unit, stationed in England. On D-Day, he and his unit went ashore with the invasion and marched through Europe to Germany. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal citation. Mr. Woodfield was a custom kitchen designer and owner of Damascus Electric Company. He began working in the family business on Saturdays and weekends at the age of 14. Sixty years later he retired. He took great pleasure in planning kitchens for his clients, designing a kitchen and seeing it come together. Mr. Woodfield was a member of American Legion Post 171, Damascus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Club. Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Patricia A. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Tirado-Mullen is survived by two children, Marcel Tirado of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Veronica Tirado of Frederick; and a brother, Tito Tirado of Puerto Rico. She was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Tirado. A memorial service was held on Saturday at the Rockville Christian Church in Rockville. Gabriel Newlin Zelnik Gabriel Newlin Zelnik, 10 months, of Gaithersburg, died Nov. 19, 2003, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville. Born Jan. 10, 2003, he was a son of Jonathan Zelnik and Ruth Newlin, and the sister of Laurel Zelnik of Gaithersburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Gaithersburg, 200 W.
