All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/mdfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Barbara Westerfield Hilyerd "Last Will and Testament of Elizabeth Barnes" In the name of God, Amen: This twenty eighth day of September - 1785 - I, Elizabeth Barnes widow of Montgomery county, State of Maryland being weak in body but sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows: First: - I give and bequeath to my three following children, Elizabeth Aldridge, Richard Weaver Barnes and Thomas Barnes, one negro - named Ben, to be sold and the value therof to be equally divided among them share and share alike. I do also give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Aldridge one cow and calf; also my wearing apparel except a stamped Cotton Gown which I give to Nancy Hocker. I do also give and bequeath unto my son Richard Weaver Barnes a young black mare and her increase. Also a desk during his lifetime and after his decease to his son Jacob, also the large looking glass during his life - after his decease to his daughter Nancy. I do also give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Barnes one negro named Jenny, a cow and calf, feather bed and furniture thereunto belonging - the gray horse and colt and half of the crop of tobacco now growing on his paying all the just debts I now owe. I do also give and bequeath unto my grandaughter Elizabeth Barnes daughter of Richard Weaver Barnes, one cow and calf and all the crop of corn growing. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Aldridge, Richard Weaver Barnes and Thomas Barnes to be equally divided among them share and share alike all the remainder of my stock and furniture, I will and bequeath among all my surviving children among them to be divided share and share alike, and I do also appoint my son Richard Weaver Barnes sole executor of this my last will and testiment hereby revoking all former wills and testiments by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above mentioned. Elizabeth Barnes (Her mark) (Seal) Signed, sealed, published and declared by the above mentioned Elizabeth Barnes to be her last will and testiment in the presence of us who in the presence of each other have here unto subscribed our names as witnesses there to in the presence of the testator. Ezekiel Waters Nathan Waters Montgomery county, November 19, 1785. Then came Ezekiel Waters and Nathan Waters the subscribing witnesses to the within last will and testiment of Elizabeth Barnes late of said county, deceased and made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God, that they did see the testator herein named sign and seal this will and that they heard her publish, pronounce and declare the same as her last will and testament, and that at the time of her so doing she was to the best of their apprehension of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding and that they respectively subscribed their names to this will as witness in the presence and at the request of the testator and in the presence of each other.
