All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/mdfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: molly shumate OurFamilyHistory@hotmail.com November 10, 2006, 8:20 am Source: Montgomery Co., Md Abstracts 1776-1794 Written: January 29, 1775 Recorded: June 17, 1775 LWT of Matthias Grey of Frederick County in the Province of Maryland Planter being infirm in body but in perfect health do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner following: that is to say I recommend my Soul into the hand of God almighty that gave it, and my Body I recommend to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executrix, and touching such worldly Estate; which it hath pleased God to bless me with I will and bequeath in the following manner and form - ITEM - I will and bequeath this plantation I now live on called GREYS NECK unto my dearly beloved wife SARAH GREY during her natural life and after her death to my two sons BENJAMIN and ADIN GREY ITEM - I bequeath unto my two sons WILLIAM and JEREMIAH GRAY a tract of land called GRAY'S MEADOWS to be divided between them in manner following that is sixty acres of said tract to WILLIAM and the remaining part thereof to JEREMIAH. ITEM - I bequeath my personal part of Estate in manner and form following viz. One third thereof to my beloved wife SARAH GRAY, one third to my son ADIN, and the remaining third to my daughter MARY ITEM - I bequeath unto my son WILLIAM 5 shillings to be raised out of my personal estate ITEM - I bequeath unto my son JEREMIAH 5 shillings to be raised as above ITEM - I bequeath unto my son BENJAMIN 5 shillings to be raised as above Lastly I do, make and constitute SARAH my said wife Executrix of this my last Will and Testament, and I do hereby utterly, disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other testaments by me in any wise before named, written or bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty ninth day of January in the year of our Lord God, one thousand seven hundred and seventy five. S/Matthias Gray Signed sealed published and pronounced by the said Matthias Gray as his last Will and Testament, in the present of us who in his presence, and the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names: John PHILLIPS, Philip HOCKER, John BUXTON On the back of the aforegoing Will as thus written viz: On the 17th day of June 1775 came John PHILIPS and John BUXTON two of the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing Will and made oath on the holy evangels of Almighty God that they did see the Testator Matthias GRAY sign and seal the said Will and heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his Last Will and Testament and that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of a sound and disposing mind and memory and that also they did see Philip HOCKER the other subscribing witness to the said Will sign his name as a witness thereto and that they severally subscribed their names as witnesses to the said will in the presence of the Testator and in the presence of each other.
