Last Will & Testament of Michael Litton 1740 - 1819 Montgomery County, Maryland, Wills Liber L, pg 117 I, Michael Letton of Montgomery County and State of Maryland, being of sound and disposing mind, memory, and understanding, and wishing in such a frame of mind to settle all my worldly affairs, do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say, first and principally I commit my soul into the hands of that God from whom I received it and my body from the earth from whence it came, to be buried by my executor hereinafter mentioned with decent Christian burial, and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, I devise and be queath as follows: I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Michael Hartly Letton, son of Brice, one half of all my lands which said one half shall consist of all my land lying to the south of a straight line running from the end of sixty-eight perches on the second line of a tract of land called Oatry to the beginning tree of a tract of land called Saint Mary’s containing about two hundred and thirty acres more or less, to him the said Michael Hartly Letton, his heirs and assigns forever, subject, however, to my will, wish, and desire that my son Brice Letton shall have the sole use and benefit of said one half of all my lands during his natural life. I give and bequeath unto my Granson Vanwick Michael Letton, son of Ralph Letton, the other one half of all my lands, which said other half shall consist of all my lands lying to the north of said straight line running from the end of sixty-eight perches on the second line of a tract of land called Oatry to the beginning tree of a tract of land called Saint Mary’s, containing about two hundred and thirty acres , more or less, to him the said Vanwick Michael Letton, his heirs and assigns forever subject, however, to my will, wish, and desire that my son Ralph Letton shall have the sole use and benefit of said other half of my lands during his natural life. I give and bequeath unto my four daughters: Tabitha Suter, Anna Maria Linstead, Sarah Smith, and Ann Forsythe, the sum of one hundred dollars, to each and every one of them, and no more. I give and bequeath unto my five sons, Caleb, John, Michael, Ralph, and Brice Letton, one hundred pounds, to each and every one of them, and no more. I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Ninian Willett Letton one negro boy named Ned. And it is further my will, wish, and desire that the residue of all my estate be sold by my Executor hereinafter mentioned, and the remaining after all my legacies are paid I will and bequeath unto all my surviving Grandchildren to be equally divided among them, share and share alike, to be paid them without interest by my Executor hereinafter mentioned, at or when they respectively arrive at the age of maturity. And lastly I do appoint my son Brice Letton my sole executor of this my last will and testament, confirming unto him full power and absolute authority to carry this my last will and testament into effect, revoking and annulling all former wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my Last Will and Testament.
