All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/mdfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Patricia O'Connor p-oconnor@att.net March 9, 2006, 6:08 pm Source: Montgomery Md Wills & Accounts Liber B P. 75 & 76 Written: August 22, 1781 Recorded: May 18, 1782 In the Name of God, Amen, I Leonard WATHAN of Montgomery County in the State of Maryland planter, being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory praise to God therefore Knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die and the uncertainty of the time when to make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say: First and principally, I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it in hopes of his accepting the same through the merits and intercession of my ever blessed saviour Jesus Christ and my body to the Earth to be decently interred according to the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named and as to such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me - I give and dispose thereof in manner and form following Inprimus - I give, devise and bequeath unto my loving wife Ann WATHAN all that peice or parcel of land whereon I now live with all the improvements and personal Estate therein during her natural Life or widowhood and after her death or widowhood the said Land and Improvements I give devise and bequest unto my two sons Barton WATHAN and Gabriel WATHAN to be equally divided between them. Two [sic to] one at one end and the tother at the other end and my eldest son Barton WATHAN to have his first choice, and I give and bequeath unto my eldest son Barton WATHAN one horse and saddle when he calls for it and unto my son Gabriel WATHAN, I give devise and bequeath one Two year old bay colt that is here at present when he calls for it and after all my just debts are paid and the death or widowhood of my wife then my personal Estate to be Equally divided between the rest of my children, Henry WATHAN and Monica WATHAN, Amistalia WATHAN and Wilfred WATHAN and Benedict WATHAN and my land a Reffuge for all my children during a single and prudent life likewise it is my will and desire that my Executors hereinafter named five my three youngest children a years schooling at least a peice and that the two now going to school to make up their time that I engaged them for Lastly - I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my wife Anne WATHAN and sons Barton WATHAN and Gabriel WATHAN whole and sole Executors and in cast that my wife should die that the other Executors to take care of my children, this only last will and Testament - hereby revoking disannulling and making void all former or other wills by me heretofore made and only ratifying and confirming this to be by last will the 22nd August 1781 Witness Leonard [X] WATHAN Walter KAVRICK Zackariah KNOTT Jane KNOTT Montgomery County May 18th 1782 Came Walter KAVRICK and Zackariah KNOTT two of the subscribing witnesses to the within last will and Testament of Leonard WATHAN late of said County deceased and severally made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that they did see the Testator therein named sign and seal this will and that they heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and Testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehension of sound and disposing mind and memory & understanding and that they and Jane KNOTT respectively subscribed their names as witnesses the this will in the presence and at the request of the Testator and in the presence of each other.
