County on the other part witnesses that the said CB & AF for ... 45# sterling ... already heretofore paid to TF late of this county, deceased and to the said CB one ---whereas is now remaining a debt on the estate of TF ... the land in question was all that part of tract of land called Gleaning lying in P.G. County on Goose Branch beginning at a bounded hickory the second bound tree of John Pearce's.... containing and laid out for 300 acres of land more or less". (F-14) 3/26/1726 Hugh Reilly to Charles Carroll of Annapolis, 3 tracts of land, one being "The Gleaning of ca 72 Ac". (The others are The Hoggyard 457 Ac & Beaverdam Neck 130 Ac) (M-180) 11/27/1728 Thomas Locker, planter, to his dau Anne Talbott, wife of Benjamin Talbott, a tract being part of Gleanings which he purchased from John Locker, bounded by Top Hall & Oxon Main Run, 60 Ac. (M-332) 7/25/1731 Enrolled at request of Clement Hill 8/28/1731. Indenture between William Harbeen, carpenter, of P.G. County and Richard Bennett of Queen Anne County for 35# 19 shillings sterling gave all that tract or parcel of land lying and being in P.G. County foresaid called Gleaning whereon William Harbeen then lived, bounded (described in relation to property of John Peere (?Pierce)). 300 acres of land, also Negro man called Cupit and Negro woman called Dido. Does not refer to Goose Creek. Witnesses: Clement Hill, Clement Hill Jr. Acknowledged by his wife Mary. (Q-338) 6/27/1739 John Hearben of Charles County, planter & William Hearben, his brother of P.G. County, planter to John Macklean Jr. of P.G. County, planter, for 9# sterling, all that tract or parcel of land lying upon Goose Creek in P.G. County, being part of a tract of land called the Gleaning .... containing 100 acres." County to John Macklean for 1000# of tobacco & 1# money part of a tract or parcel of land called the Gleaning. No signature by wife and no mention of acreage on Goose Creek. (Y-79) 1741 Elisha Harben on rent rolls for "Gleanings" (to John Macklean) 11/26/1747 William Harben of P.G. County, planter, for 10# sterling money paid by George Scott of P.G. County, a black horse branded on the near buttock "EEO" and a low corn market with two crops and two under bitts and a heifer and a calf and two sows and nine young hogs and ten pigs, all of them marked, with a ?propt and a hole in the right ear and a ?crop and a slit in the left ear and two feather beds and covering and an iron pot and hominy pistle and a pewter dish and 6 plates and all the goods I am possessed of not here particularly mentioned ... County, from Geo Vandever of P.G. County, goldsmith, for 35# current money, tract on Goose Creek called Gleaning. Witnesses: John Cooke & Lancelet Willson. Ann, wife of Vandever, agreed & relinquished her right of dower. Edward paid 2 shilling alienation fee. Recorded 4/25/1760. County, planter, from James Harben of Frederick County, planter, for the sum of 30# currency, all that tract or parcel of land being part of a tract of land called "Gleaning" lying on the waters of a creek called and known as Goose Creek ... contains 50 acres more or less. Eleanor Harbin, wife of James, declared it was ok, relinquished her right of dower. (TT-529) 6/25/1770 Edward Villers, planter, of P.G. Co., from James White of P.G. Co., & Zach White of Fred. Co., for 5# current money & diverse other causes, Allison's Forest Enlarged beginning at a point of line with Gleanings, 20 Ac. James wife was Eleanor & Zach's wife was Mary. County and Nolley Young of same ... that the same Edward Villers Harbein" for 569# 5 shillings current money the following tracts or parts of tracts in P.G. County and adjacent to each other: "Part of Allison's Forest Enlarged (described in relation to "Expence") and being 31-1/4 acres; part of Gleanings (described in relation to Port Royal "now in the possession of the heirs of a certain John Pierce Sr", EVH himself, a "certain Steven West" and John Macklean) and being 158- 1/2 acres. County from Naylor Harbin of same, for $150, 3 featherbeds, 3 bedsteads, 1 sideboard, 6 chairs, 2 mahogany tables, 6 iron pots & skillets, 1 heifer with calf & 1 yearling." (by his mark) Witness: J. County, for ? a certain tract of land containing 320 acres lying and being in the Territory of Arkansas, it being the 4th half of Section 21 of township 13 north in range 4 in the tract appropriated by acts of Congress passed on May 5, 1812 for military bounties ... for which half section of land a patent was gotten from the general land office dated 7/13/1821.
