Mrs. Offutt was born and educated in Gaithersburg. She was the oldest daughter of the large family of Margaret Arnold and Henry Dorsey Gloyd. She married William M. Offutt of Garrett Park in 1928, and they had two sons before he died of Rocky Mountain spotted tick fever in 1938. After her husband's death, Mrs. Offutt returned to a job at the Library of Congress. In 1940 she bought the house at 4420 East West Highway where she lived for the rest of her life. When the National Naval Medical Center opened in 1943, Mrs. Offutt accepted a position as head of the crew's library, and transferred to the patients' record office after World War II. She worked at the hospital until her retirement. Mrs. Offutt was active in her church and as a volunteer at Suburban Hospital and the Thrift Shop. She is survived by her sons, William Offutt of Bethesda and Thomas Lee Offutt of Harper's Ferry, W.Va.; one sister, Rita Gloyd of Rockville; and one brother Paul Gloyd of Bethesda; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Interment is at the Darnestown Presbyterian Church's cemetery.
