Lucchi received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University in 1937 and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University in 1939. Lucchi was a decorated combat veteran who served in the South Pacific Theater of World War II as a battalion commander in the coast artillery. After the war, he remained in the region, assisting in the administration of civil education programs in Japan and Korea. Lucchi held positions in the Bowie city government, the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration and the Prince George's County Department of Social Services. In addition to his wife, Rita Lucchi of Annapolis, Col. Lucchi is survived by his son, Leonard Lucchi, former County Attorney for Prince George's County, his daughter-in-law, Brenda Beitzell Lucchi, his grandson, Michael Lucchi, and his granddaughter, Elena Lucchi, all of Bowie.
