All Rights Reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/mdfiles.htm ********************************************************* The Will of Samuel Baxter, 1855, Queen Anne’s County, Maryland In the name of God Amen, I Samuel Baxter of Queen Ann’s County and State of Maryland being in imperfect health of body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of time thereof and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say. First and principally I commit my soul in to the hands of Almighty God and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named, and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, I devise and bequeath as follows. I give and bequeath unto Eliza Hinson of Baltimore City the sum of twenty dollars current money of Maryland. I five and bequeath unto Elbert Baynard of Caroline County my cow. I give and bequeath unto Henry Baxter of Queen Anns County one hundred dollars current money of Maryland. I give and bequeath unto Charlotte Ann Taylor of Baltimore City twelve dollars current money of Maryland. I give and bequeath unto Michal Smith of of Talbot County twelve dollars current money of Maryland. I give and bequeath unto Emeline Baynard of Queen Anns County twelve dollars current money of Maryland. I give and bequeath unto James Baxter of Queen Anns County five dollars current money of Maryland. I give and bequeath unto George Johnson of Queen Anns County five dollars, I give and bequeath unto George Baxter the boy that lives with me five dollars. I leave the farm and plantation where I now reside to be sold and the money arising there from to be equally divided between my fours sisters viz. Hester Baynard, Dealy Baxter, Henrietta Baxter and Julia Ann Baxter, my personal estate to be sold. I give unto Elbert Baynard all of my wearing apparel, Vachel Downes to be my sole Executor of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand affixed my seal 4th day of June 1855. Signed sealed published and declared by Samuel Baxter the above named testator as and for his last will and testament, in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other subscribed our names as witnesses thereto. Jump, James Golt Queen Anns County set July 24 1855 Then came Salathiel Jump one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that he did see Samuel Baxter ___ (RM?) sign his name by making his mark to the within instrument, that he heard him publish and declare the same to be his last will and testament, that at the time of so doing he was to the best of his apprehension of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, that he signed his name in witness to the same in the presence of James Golt another subscribing witness and in the presence of the testator and at his request.
