All Rights Reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/mdfiles.htm ********************************************************* Will of SAMUEL WRIGHT Will of Samuel Wright, 1855, Queen Anne's County Maryland In the name of god, amen, I Samuel Wright of color of Queen Ann's County State of Maryland being in weak health but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereafter and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say. First I give and bequeath to my son Charles Wright who formerly belong to Dr. John D. Emory my house and lot in the Centreville district adjoining Clinton Wright, John. H. Downs & Pere Wilmer containing nine acres & half except the thirds of the same during the natural life of my wife Hester Wright. Secondly I give and bequeath unto my wife Hester Wright her thirds in my house and lot adjoining Clinton Wright, John H. Downs and Pere Wilmer during her natural life. Thirdly I leave my man Jim Tilghman to be hired out year by year for three years after the balance of this year. Fourthly I leave my man Jim Tilghman to be free from the first day of January eighteen hundred & fifty nine, and I hereby authorise and empower my executor herein after mentioned to manumit him to be free from the said date. Fifthly I give my son Charles Wright one bay horse called Shakespeare. Sixthly I give my personal estate to be equally divided among my wife Hester Wright and my two children Charles Wright and Louisa Massey after paying my debts and taking out my man James Tilghman's, the bay horse Shakespeare share and share alike. Seventhly. I constitute and appoint Arthur Emory Jr. to be the executor of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this thirteenth day of July one thousand eight hundred & fifty six. (Note: The will was signed in 1856 and probated in 1855. The dates for both are very legible. It is obviously a mistake within the will.) Thomas one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that he did see Samuel Wright F.N. the within named Testator make his mark to the same that he heard him publish and declare the same to be his last will and Testament that at the time of so doing he was to the best of his apprehension of sound and desposing mind memory and understanding that he signed his name as a witness in the presence of Daniel Bowers and D.C.H. Emory who also signed their names as witnesses in the presence of each other and in the presence of the Testator and at his request. Saml __ (T.?)
