All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/mdfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Sharp msharpnyc@aol.com May 29, 2010, 8:22 pm Source: Somerset Co Md Eb5:164-165 Written: April 7, 1686 Recorded: August 10, 1687 In the name of God Amen The Seventh day of April in the year of our lord god One Thousand Six hundred Eighty Six I Ambrose Dixon of Somerset County in the Province of Maryland Planter being Sick in body but of good & perfect Memory, thanks be unto Almighty God, and Calling to remembrance the uncertain Estate of this transitory life, And that all flesh must yield unto death when it Shall please god to call, doe Make Constitute, Ordain and declare this my last Will And Testament in Manner & form following revoaking and annulling by these presents all and every Testament and testaments, will and Wills heretofore by me made and declared either by word or Writing and this to be taken only for my last will & testament and none other, And first being penitent and Sorry from the bottom of my hart for my Sins past Most humbly desiring forgiveness for the Same. I give and commit my soul unto Almighty god my Saviour and redeemer, in whome And by the Meritts of Jesus Christ, I trust and believe assuredly to be saved and to have full Remission and forgiveness of all My Sins. And that my Soul with my body at the day of Resurrection shall rise again with joy & through the Meritts of Christs' death And Passion Possess and Inherit the Kingdom of heaven prepared for his Elect and chosen. And My body to the Earth to be burried decently at the discretion of my Executrix hereafter Named and now for the settling of my Temporall Estate and Such goods ~ and Debts as it hath pleased god farr above my deserts, to bestow, upon me I doe order give and Dispose, the Same, in Manner & form following, that is to say, first I will that all those debts & duets that I owe in right of Consciense to any manner of person or person whatsoever shall be will and contented And paid or Be desired to be withint convenient Time after my decease by My Executrix hereafter named I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth the wife of Robert Dukes after my Wifes decease: One Negro Woman Called Betty Ginney & her Increase to have & to hold to her the said Elizabeth & to her heres & assigns for Ever, also I give unto My Daughter Elizabeth one horse which her husband Robert dukes lately broke for me to have and to hold to her the sd; Eliza herheirs & assigns for Ever to be delivd to her on Order presently after my decease I give And bequeath unto my Grand child Thomas Potter son of Henry Potter one Cow & Cow Calf to be for his use Presently after my decease. To have & to hold the sd Cow and Cow calf with there future Increase of both Male & female. for Ever also I give & bequeath unto My sd Grand Child Thomas Potter One Mare & Her female Increase to have and to hold. the said Mare & her female Increse to him the sd Thomas Potter his heirs & assigns for Ever Presently after my decease. Also I give & bequeath unto my said grand child Thomas Potter One young female Negro to be delivd after my wifes decease & then to have & to hold the sd Negro & Increase to him the said Thomas Potter his heirs and assigns for Ever , And further it is my Will and desire that the sd Thomas Potter be sent to School there to learn Reading Writing & Arithmatick I give and bequeath unto my son in law Edmond Beauchamp one Cow and calf & there Increase, to have & to hold the said Cow & Calf & there Increase both Male & female to him the said Edmond Beauchamp his heirs & assigns for Ever to be deliverd to him or his Ordr Presently after my decease, also I give and bequeath unto my said son in law Edmond. One young Black Mare Called Janny, ye youngest to have & to hold the said Mare & her Increase both Male & female to him ye Said Edmond his heirs & assigns. for Ever Presently after my decease to be delivd to him ye Said Edmond his order I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Willson the Wife of George Willson of the County of Somerset Planter One Mare of Abay coullr With a white Starr in her forehead Called by the Name of Jenney to be deliverd Presently after my decease. To have and to hold the said Mare & her Increase both Male & female to his the Sd Elizabeth hir heirs and assigns for Ever I give And bequeath unto my wifes son Henry Pedington One Negro Girl about Ten yrs old to have & to hold the said Negro & her Increase, to him the said Henry Pedigton his heirs & assigns for Ever to be deliverd Presently after my wifes decease I give And bequeath unto James Browne of this County planter one Thousand pounds of good Merchantable Tobacco in Cask to be paid to the said James Browne or his assigns at or before the Tenth day of December. Next after my decease I give all the rest of my Goods Chattles & Credits belonging to me unto my loving Wife Mary Dixon during her natural life and the Plantation I now live on Except that part that my Son Thomas Dixon now liveth on all wages Provided and excepted and rightly to be understood that whatsoever estate of goods Chattels within or withoutdoores & debts & other dues belonging or of right appertaining to me or possesed with all at ye time of my Decease That after ye Decease of my Loving wife mary the said goods Chattells & other dues belonging to me at The time of my Decease I give & bequeath to my son Thomas Dixon my son in Law Thomas Cottingham my son in Law Edmund Beauchamp my son law Robert Dukes My Sonn in law John Richards & my Son Henry Potter to be Equally in Divided amongst them all To have and to hold Said estate to them ye Said Thomas Dixon Thomas Cottingham Edmund Beauchamp Robert Dukes John Richards & Henry potter to them theire heires forever ye legacies abovemencond alwayes Excepted to stand firm that is to say to Elizabeth Dukes Thomas potter Edmund Beauchamp Elizabeth Willson Henry Pedington & James Browne Legatees abovenamed: alwayes provided and it is my absolute will & meaning that if in case my Loving wife mary Should intermarry after my Decease then Shee ye Said is to injoye and possess noe more then one third part of my Goods Chattells And Debts and ye two other Thirds I will & bequeath presently after her intermarriage unto my son and Sons in Law (Vizt) Thomas Dixon Thomas Cottingham Edmund Beauchamp Robert Dukes John Richards & Henry potter Equally to be Divided amongst them all waies Excepted to stand firm the Legacies given to ye Legatees above Said (vizt) Elizabeth Dukes Thomas potter Edmund Beauchamp Elizabeth Willson Henry Pedington & James Browne to be satisfied to them as is my will Expres And whereas I did give unto friends & promised to make over to them one acre of Land upon my plantation where I now live for ye Consideration of twelve pence in money owed which by this my Last will & testement I doe acknowledge to have received I doe therifore will & bequeath Confirme ye said one Acre of Land where ye meeting house now is runing up to ye Divisional line on ye Southermost Side of a branch arbited Between william planner & my self to have & to hold ye Said one acre of Land & meeting house Thomas Everdon of this County & George Johnson of Accomack in (viz)a :& all ye rest of friends whatsoever for evere And I the said Ambrose Dixon do by these Presents constitute ordain and appoint My Will beloved Wife Mary Dixon my Whole & Sole Executrix, And Lastly deposing Trust & Confidence in my son Thomas Dixon my son in Law Edmond Beauchamp my son in Law Robert Dukes & my friend George Willson Seń of this County I do hereby ordain appoint & Constitute the Said Thomas Dixon, Edmond Beauchamp Robert Dukes & George Willson fees in Trust for to see that this my Last will & Testament be duly & Truly Executed & performed In Conformation & full asurance of the Truth above Written that this is my Last will and Testement of the Said Ambrose Dixon have hereunto set my hand & fixed my Seale as the Witnesses Subscripcons as Testimoneys doe manifest the day & year first Above Written Signed sealed & delivd by Ambrose Dixon as his last will & Testament the Seventh day of April in ye year of our Lord god One Thousand Six hundred & Eighty Six Ambrose (mark AD) Dixon [Seal] Stephen Horsey Samuel Horsey John Atkins And further my absolute desire is yt if any of my said Children son & son in Laws Thomas Dixon Thomas Cottingham Edmond Beauchamp Robt Dukes.
