Somerset County Will
Alexander Roxburgh of Somerset County
Written 19 Jul 1805
Proved 11 Aug 1807

This will was discovered during an April 1998 search of vital records at the Somerset Court
House in Princess Anne, MD by Angelo Roxbury.

The following will was transcribed exactly as the original document recorded by the Clerk of
the Court. ??? indicate illegible writing.

Will of Alexander Roxburgh  EB No. 23 Folio 113 (will books ID)

In the name of God Amen I Alexander Roxburgh of Somerset County and State of Maryland being of
sound disposing mind and memory, do make ordain constitute and appoint this to be my last will
and testament (revoking any and all wills by me heretofore made) To wit, first, It is my will
and desire that all of my just debts may be paid in a reasonable time after my decease.
Secondly That all my personal estate  be equally divided among my three children William
Roxburgh Matthew Roxburgh and Elizabeth Roxburgh  Thirdly that the four lots of land of fifty
acres each lying in Washington County and Sate of Maryland, and numbered as per tickets Three
thousand two hundred and thirty four, Three thousand  two hundred and thirty two and Three
thousand two hundred and twenty six and Three thousand two hundred and twenty seven, granted by
the commissioner for the State of Maryland for Military services during the American
Revolution; and also four lots of land lying and being in the State of Ohio formerly called the
North Western Territory,  containing one hundred acres of land each granted unto me by the
United States of America as may be fully by having recourse to the Patent thereof made to
appear, Be sold or otherwise disposed off by my Executor hereafter named for the only use and
benefit of my before mentioned children William Roxburgh Matthew Roxburgh and Elizabeth
Roxburgh the equal rights interest and estate of them and their heirs and off spring forever
after their arrival at lawful or full age.  Fourthly and lastly I do hereby constitute and
appoint my friend James Ritchies of Salisbury my whole and sole executor of this and any last
will and testament.  In Testimony whereof I have here unto offered my hand and seal and do
publish and declare the above to be my last will and testament this nineteenth day of July
Eighteen hundred and five 1805
Signed sealed published and declared to be his last will and Testament in presence of us who
have subscribe the same at his request in his presence and in the presence of each
other....................

August 11th day 1807.  Then came George Collier and Thomas Anderson, two of the subscribing
____   ____ so the last will & Testament of Alexander Roxburgh, late of Somerset county,
deceased, and severally oath on the holy Evangels of Almighty  God, that they did see the
testator therein named signed and seal this will, and that they heard him publish, pronounce
and declare the same to be his last will and testament, and that at the time of his so doing he
was to be the best of each and understanding, capable of executing a valid deed; and that they
did respectfully subscribe this will as ??? writings thereto in the presence and at the request
of the testator and in the presence of each other.  They further deposed that they  did see
Thomas Dashiell (now deceased) subscribe this will in the presence and at the request of the
testator.
