I am still living in Marysville, Cal. and Boarding with Mr. Sherman in my House. I feel to thank God on the commencement of another year that he has brought me so sucesffully through the last year and still feel willing to trust Him in all future time. Saturday, January 2 The weather continues very pleasant. We are getting along very well with the Publick School. We are doing some work for Mr. Rimears also. Our prentice quit us today, Rafe, he is agoing to San Francisco. Evening I went to the Methodist Church to meeting. Sunday, January 3 Very pleasant day. At S. School and Church as usual. The funeral of Mr. Montgomery that was murdered in Yuba City New Years morning. The Methodists are holding a protracted meeting the meeting very good. Monday, January 4 Weather very good. Worked all day on D. St. for Mr. Ramears. The weather is very good for this season of the year most of the trees are green yet. Evening I went to the singing school taught by E. Hamilton. Tuesday, January 5 The weather a little cloudy and windy. I worked all day. I collected the balance on the M. S. Hotel. Gave our note to S. Mith for $350 for wood at the rate of 3 per cent per month. We rec. a note for the balance on the Col. Bapt. Church $685.00. initiation at the Lodge tonight. Wednesday, January 6 The weather continues very pleasant. Worked all day for Mr. Ramears. Mac is working at the School House. Evening I went to the Fireman’s meeting & to meeting at the Methodist Church. Thursday, January 7 The weather continues very pleasant but the nights are quite cool and freezes a little. Worked all day for Mr. Ramears. Evening I went to preaching and prayer meeting at the Methodist Church. The meetings are very well attended. Friday, January 8 The weather is quite pleasant. Worked all day. Evening I went to the singing school Saturday, January 9 The weather has been quite cool for the last few days freezes at night. I took a mortgage on the Col. Capt. Church today for the balance due [--] @ 3 per cent per month. I made out my Treasures report for the M. E. S. School. Sunday, January 10 The weather cloudy and rained a little. At Church and S. School as usual. I gave in my Report as Treasure today to the S. School. Today was ellections day and I was reellected Treasure. Our prayer meeting as usual at 3½ o’clock. Monday, January 11 Part of the day was very cool and windy. I settled with Watson ( Baker ) and Wm. C. Hesser ( Bucher )our meat bill was $755.00 for the last year. I figured on some work for Mr. Hawley & Co. today at the store worked at the school in afternoon Singing evening. Tuesday, January 12 Weather pleasant but commenced to rain in the morning 11 o’clock & raining quite hard. Evening I went to the Lodge. We initiated a man from Yuba City. Wednesday, January 13 Cleared off last night and today is quite pleasant. Worked all day on the Pub. School House. We are getting along very well with it. We have had a very favourable Winter to get through with our work & we are geting along very well with it. Thursday, January 14 Very pleasant day. Worked all day on the school House. Evening I went to Church Mr. Bruner preached had a very good meeting and a very good attendance. Friday, January 15 Cloudy and misting a little all day. We got the second story up today of the School House. We got some jobing to do for Mr. Hawley and I commenced it today at the store on First & Merchant’s Sts. Saturday, January 16 Very pleasant day. Worked all day at Mr. Hawley’s on First St. This winter has been a very pleasant one so far green leaves are still on some of the trees yet, the green leaves are still on an apple tree in my yard yet. We have had but very little cold weather as yet this winter. Sunday, January 17 Very pleasant day. At S. School and church as usual. Mr. Stone, Baptist Minister preached for us today in the City Hall and for the Col folks in the evening and we had our prayer meeting at 3½ o’clock as usual in the Presbitarian Church. Evening Mr. Hapgood & I called on Mr. Rigbee. Monday, January 18 The weather cloudy and foggy but very little rain. We worked all day. We are topping out the School House & doing some work for Mr. Hawley on First Street. Evening went to the singing school. Tuesday, January 19 The weather continues about the same. Worked all day at Mr. Hawley’s. Evening I went to the Lodge. We initiated Mr. Bromburger. Our Lodge is in a very flourishing condition at present. Wednesday, January 20 The weather continues about the same. Worked all day at Mr. Hawley’s. Mack is at the School house topping it out. It commenced to rain the evening just as we quit work. Thursday, January 21 Rained very hard last night and most of today. Did not work today at the building. I dug up the Lanthis(?) Green in front of my House on D. St. and planted it on the side walk and fixed the garden in front. Evening went to prayer meeting. Friday, January 22 Rained all last night and all day. About the House most all day. Morning I went with Mr. [--] to see about a little job on First St. I finished making the little flower beds in front of the House. Saturday, January 23 Very pleasant day after the rain. I finished the pavement at Mr. Hawley’s and got ready to do a couple other jobs. We will get the school house topped out in one day more. We found it quite hard to raise a little money today. Sunday, January 24 pleasant day. The Col. Baptist Church was dedicated today by the Rev. Mr. B. Brierly of San Francisco. The Rev. Mr. Bruner and Mr. Wallswprth was present and assisted in the ceremony. The House was very full. Monday, January 25 The weather quite foggy. I started a privey for McDuffie at the Eldorado. I also started a job on First St. extended for a Col. man. Evening I went to the singing school. Tuesday, January 26 Rained last night and part of today. I worked at my job on First St. Evening I went to the Lodge. We initiated Mr. George Merritt. Wednesday, January 27 Quite foggy in the morning but turned out to be quite a pleasant day. We topped out the School House today. It is a very fine looking building. Stayed at Home this evening. I am reading the History of the Mexican War. Thursday, January 28 The weather continues very pleasant. Evening I went to prayer meeting. Our meetings appear to be a good deal better more than they were 2 or 3 years ago. Friday, January 29 Very pleasant weather but the mornings are a little cool. Worked all day. Evening I went to the Singing School. Saturday, January 30 The weather continues very pleasant. Worked all day. I rec. 2 letters from Bro. Jacob. One contained a draft on Wells Fargo & co. for $ 513.59 money that I paid into a Building Association while I was at home. Sunday, January 31 Very pleasant day. At Sunday School and Church all day. I find an increase in our Sabbath School every year and I am becoming very much attached to it. I still have a class in the school. We only had 4 out to our prayer meeting. Monday, February 1 Weather very pleasant. We worked all day on the yard walls at the School House. Evening I went to singing school. Tuesday, February 2 The weather continues very pleasant. The weather is very much like spring weather. Mack & I worked all day at Mr. Hawley & Co. I presented my draft for payment paid in San Francisco. Wednesday, February 3 Weather very pleasant. We worked all day at Mr. Hawley’s. Evening went to the Fire Company. Thursday, February 4 The weather continues very peasant. Worked all day at Mr. Hawley’s. We took a House to build today from Mr. Bender at $13.00 and one half of the openings about 40 thousand brick. Friday, February 5 Very pleasant day. Worked all day. In the afternoon I started building a room joining my back building on D. St. for my own use. Evening I went to the sing. Saturday, February 6 The weather continues very pleasant. We worked all day on my room. I got my money today from Wells Fargo $513.59. Sunday, February 7 Very pleasant. At S. S. and Church as usual and also at the catholic Church to see the confirmation and the head Bishop of Cal. Evening Mr. Williams and I called on Mr. Rigbey & Family. Monday, February 8 The weather continues very favourable. Worked all day on my back building geting along with it very well. Evening went to the singing school. Tuesday, February 9 The weather very pleasant. Worked all day on my room. We gave our bidd on the Station House but we did not get it. Mr. Deardworff got it. Went to the Lodge and Mr. Hapgood & I made a call. Wednesday, February 10 The weather continues very pleasant. I worked about my room on D. St. house all day. Evening we gave Bro. Baker a supprise party. We had a very pleasant time of it. Thursday, February 11 Weather pleasant. We commenced a little House for McDonald on High St. Work is rather slack with us now but we keep doing something all the time. Friday, February 12 The weather continues very pleasant. Worked all day on Mac’s House. Evening went to the singing school. I agreed to by Mr. Pain’s brickyard for $1000.00 and paid $200 on it. Saturday, February 13 Very pleasant weather but the nights is a little cool. Worked all day. Times are quite dull now money is very hard to collect. Seward & Bowen is doing the brick work of the Station House. Sunday, February 14 Rained quite hard all day. At school and church as usual. Mr. Whealler Baptist preached for us today in the M. E. Church and we had a very good prayer meeting at 3½ o’clock. Monday, February 15 It continues raining quite hard. Rained hard all last night but it is very much needed bouth to the Ranchers and minors. It keeps us from work bit it is very axceptable. Evening went to the consel no money [-] us yet on S. House. Tuesday, February 16 Rain continues very hard but we are all glad to see it. It is very much needed just now. Evening went to the Lodge. We initiated a man from Yuba City Mr. McChristian. Wednesday, February 17 Rained all night and part of today. We did not work today I planted a Locust in front of my house on D. St. and wrote a number of letters to my friends. Thursday, February 18 Very pleasant day. I made out the day in working in two places. We are kept quite busy doing jobing &co. P. S. It rained a little in the afternoon. At night Mack & I repaired Judge Haun’s range in the Haun House. Friday, February 19 Cloudy and rained part of the day. We commenced to set a Boiler for Mr. Hisey & co at the soap factory. Stayed in the house in the evening and read. I am now reading the War with Mexico. It is now 24 minutes past 11 o’clock and it is time that I was in Bed. Saturday, February 20 Very pleasant day. We finished our Boiler. I figured up the brick work & plastering of the Cort House in Yuba City. Amount of bricks 283854 & 2131 yards of plastering counting on half of openings. Sunday, February 21 Very pleasant day at Church & Sunday School. We also had a very good prayer meeting in the afternoon at 3½ o’clock ( the usual Hour ) Monday, February 22 The weather continues very pleasant. We have a job for Mr. [--] C. Taylor today on High & Second St, a wall that fell down, I paid $300.00 to Mr. Pain today for those Lotts to make bricks on. I have paid now $500.00 and still owe him $500.00. Evening I went to the sing. Tuesday, February 23 The weather continues very pleasant but a little windy today. We worked on Mack’s House on High St. The Cort House of Yuba was awarded to Mr. Deardorff, carpenter. Evening I went to the Lodge. Wednesday, February 24 Weather very pleasant. Worked all day on McDonald’s House on High Street. We have the job of building the Fireman’s wall around the Cemetery. Thursday, February 25 Weather continues very pleasant. Worked all day. evening I went to hear a man read poetry &co at the Presbyterian Church very few present. P. S. Wednesday evening. This evening I went to the Singing Society at City Hall. Friday, February 26 The weather continues about the same. I measured up 3 Houses for Dick Wimple and worked part of the day. We are kept quite busy all the time doing something. Saturday, February 27 Very pleasant day. I was summons to appear before a Rifferree Cort today as a witness in the case of Pinkum & Wimple. We commenced a Bake oven for the Sisters today. Evening I went to the Lecture Delivered by the Rev. Mr. J. H. Brayton, subj. India. Sunday, February 28 Very pleasant day. At church and Sunday School all day. our prayer meeting was very good in the afternoon. The Rev. Mr. Brayton preached at the Presbyterian Church this evening. Monday, March 1 The weather continues very pleasant. Worked all day ½ day for Mr. Ramears. Evening I called on Mr. Rigby and spent a very pleasant evening. Mr. Williams was there. Tuesday, March 2 The weather continues pleasant. We started the brick works at the Fireman’s Cemetery. I fitted up my room on D St & moved in it is an addition that I have just finished. I rented my House on F & 5th St to Mr. Selby rent to commence 15th inst for $40.00. I promised to build an addition. Wednesday, March 3 The weather pleasant. Worked all day at the grave yard. Evening I went to the Fireman’s meeting and was ellected a deligate. Thursday, March 4 The weather continues about the same but the mornings are a little cool. Evening I spent at Mr. Rigbey’s. Friday, March 5 Quite cool and windy all day. Worked all day at the grave yard. I commenced to hall sand to my house on corner of 5th and F St. to build an addition to it. Evening I went to the sing. Saturday, March 6 Today has been quite pleasant. We worked all day at the Graveyard. Evening Mr. Williams called to see Mr. Rigbey & Family and then we came up to my room and we had quite a good talk about our business afars &co &co. Sunday, March 7 Very pleasant day. At church & Sunday School all day. And our prayer meeting at 3½ o’clock. We had a very good meeting. I went to the Episcopal church morning & evening. Monday, March 8 Very pleasant day. I commenced to raise a story on my house corner of 5th & F. Sts. It will cost me about $817.00 all told. Evening after I got through with a little business I went to the Singing Society. Tuesday, March 9 Very pleasant all day. Worked all day at my house corner of 5th & F. St. Commenced to lay bricks. We are geting along with it very well. Evening I went to the Lodge and the dellegate’s meeting ( Fireman’s ) Wednesday, March 10 Cloudy and has the appearance of rain. I am trying very hard to get the story up and the roof on before it rains. Mr. Selby is living in the lower part and if rain comes it will do a great deal of harm. Thursday, March 11 It still keeps cloudy but the rain keeps off well. We got the story up and the roof on & commenced to put the fire walls on. We covered the roof with Canvis after we quit work for fear of rain. Evening I went to the Mass meeting Dr. D. W. C. Rice has rec. the nomination by the people for Mayor. Friday, March 12 The weather still keeps cloudy but no rain as yet. We finished the brickwork & got most of the tin on. We are now safe if it dose rain for which I feel very thankfull. Evening Mr. Hapgood & I called on the Miss Rigbeys & then I went to the singing school. An alarm of fire this evening. Saturday, March 13 Part of the day was quite pleasant in the evening the wind blew quite hard. I let my plastering today to Mr. Demott at 50 & 60 cts per yard. He takes it out in brickwork at $4.00 per thousand. The carpenters are getting along very well with the work. Sunday, March 14 The weather cool. At Church & S. School all day. We had no prayer meeting this afternoon on account of a funeral sermon being preached in the church. The Masons and Firemen were out. Monday, March 15 Windy and cool. Ellection day for Mayor and City Officers. In the morning I took a walk with the Miss Rigbeys out in the planes after flowers and did not work today. Evening I went to the Singing Society. Tuesday, March 16 The weather continues cool and windy. Worked part of the day at the grave yard. Evening I went to the Lodge. Democrat Mayor ellected. Wednesday, March 17 Part of the day was very windy and cold. It snowed a little in the afternoon. We was at work at the graveyard and we stoped and we came to town. Evening Hapgood, Miss Rigbey & I called to see Mr. Baker & Family. I spent the evening. Thursday, March 18 The weather keeps quite cool it froze quite hard last night. We wroked all day at the graveyard. Stayed in the house in the evening and read. Friday, March 19 Not quite so windy today. We stopped in town today to do some work at the Haun House. Evening I called to see Mr. Rigbey & Family & then went to the sing. Saturday, March 20 Very pleasant day. We worked all day at the Haun house. We cut two large doorways through the partition wall between the middle room & south room. We finished it this evening. Sunday, March 21 Very pleasant day. At S. School & Church all day. Our prayer meeting at 3½ o’clock as usual. We had a very good meeting. Evening I went to the Presbyterian Church with Miss Rigbey. Monday, March 22 The weather quite good. We worked all day at the graveyard. Evening I went to the sing. Tuesday, March 23 Not quite so cool today. We worked all day at the Graveyard. We finished the Firemans Cemetery and commenced some work for Mr. Bockious and Mrs Read & Mrs L. Laird. Evening I went to the Lodge. Wednesday, March 24 Morning started to rain. We finished all the work we had at the grave yard at noon and got wet. I exchainged frames in my second story D. St. Evening I finished Mr. J. Emmel ‘s job. Thursday, March 25 Weather pleasant. I started a job today for Mr. Baldwin on E. St. I done some work at my house on the corner of 5th and Seventh Sts. Afternoon we commenced the paveing at the School House. Friday, March 26 The weather cool and a little rain. I commenced a job for Mr. Baldwin on E. St. Mac paved at the School House. Evening rained quite hard. Staid home all the evening. Saturday, March 27 Rained all last night & all day which we very much need. I done some little work for myself. Evening I went to a special meeting of our Lodge called by the Grand Master of the State we had a very good attendance. Sunday, March 28 Rained most all day. At Church & Sunday School all day. Our prayer meeting as usual at 3½ o’clock. Monday, March 29 Rained all night and all day today. We agreed to build a stable for O. H. Pierson and wait one year for the money at 2 per cent per month. Our part amounts to $1330.00. We had no sing this evening on account of the rain. I read most all day today History of Mexico. Tuesday, March 30 Cleared off last evening and today has been quite pleasant. We went to work this afternoon at Mr. Baldwin’s on E. St. We signed the contract to build O. H. Pierson’s stable this evening then went to the Lodge and then came home and read a while. Wednesday, March 31 Rained most all day. We could not work. I read most of the day History of the War with Mexico. Thursday, April 1 Rained untill noon. We went to work in the afternoon. Evening I went to the prayer meeting and to the Lodge ( Oriental ) They initiated Mr Crammoor Charley. Our Offburer(?) came back today we gave him work at the building. Friday, April 2 Very pleasant today. We finished Mr. Baldwin’s and done a job on C. St. Tenpin Alley. We dug the foundation of O. H. Pierson’s stable and commenced to lay brick there tomorrow. I made a bargain with Mr. lowery today a floor in my basement on D. St. Saturday, April 3 Very pleasant day. We commenced to lay brick on O. H. Pierson’s job on 3rd St. between D. & Maiden Lane. I promised Mr. Sherman to reduce the rent to $50.00 per month house on D. St. Sunday, April 4 Rained quite hard part of the day. At church and S. S. as usual. Monday, April 5 Weather fair and pleasant. Worked part of the day. We started a house for Demott on B. St. at $14.00 per thousand. Evening I went to the sing. Tuesday, April 6 Weather quite pleasant. We worked all day at Mr. Demott’s house. Evening I went to the Lodge. Wednesday, April 7 Cloudy and commenced to rain quite hard at 3 o’clock at which time we had to stop work. Thursday, April 8 The weather windy. We paved a seller for Mr. Selby on E. St. We are quite busy now, Stayed home in the evening and read. Friday, April 9 Pleasant day. Worked all day at Demott’s House. Evening I went to a Lecture at Mr. Wallsworth’s House delivered by Mr. Gonsarver. Saturday, April 10 The weather quite windy today. We topped out Mr. Demott’s House today. I went on Mr. Sherman’s notes for $1000.00 for thirty days. Sunday, April 11 Very pleasant day. At Sabbath School as usual. I attended the episcopal Church today. Two strangers preached from San Francisco. Monday, April 12 The weather very pleasant but a little warm. I commenced a spring house for Mr. Camerin at the Quinty Ranch laying the bricks for $14.00 per. Evening I went to the sing. Tuesday, April 13 Not quite so warm today as it was yesterday. Worked at the Qunity Ranch all day. Mac & Tom Britt is working at Pierson’s stable. Evening I went to the Lodge. Wednesday, April 14 The weather very pleasant. Worked all day at the Qunity Ranch. Mail came up this evening and I got a letter from Sister Annie and it brought me the sad news of the death of my Granmother McComas Thursday, April 15 The weather cool and windy. I finished my job at the Qunity ranch. Afternoon I commenced a job for Mrs. L. Laird. Two hands working at the stable. Evening I went to the prayer meeting. Friday, April 16 A little cloudy but pleasant, Calvin was hung today. he was hung clost by our brickyard. I saw him before he was taken out looked very bad. A great many strangers came in to see him hung. I worked all day. Evening stayed at home. Saturday, April 17 Very pleasant day. I finished Mrs. L. Laird’s work then I went to work on the Satble. I engaged my cook today for $40.00 per month. We found it very hard to collect money today. Sunday, April 18 Very pleasant day. At church and S. School as usual. I attended the M. E. Church today. We had a General prayer meeting at the Presbyterian Church this afternoon quite a big turnout. Monday, April 19 Very pleasant weather. Worked all day at the Stable. Evening went to the sing. We have removed our Hall to the Single block Second St. Tuesday, April 20 The weather continues quite pleasant but the sun is quite warm in the middle of the day. We worked all day on the Stable. Evening went to the Lodge. Wednesday, April 21 Weather continues pleasant. We did not work at the building today. I painted all my roofs. Thursday, April 22 The weather pleasant looks a little like rain this evening quite a circle around the Moon. Evening call to see Mr. Rigbey & Family met with Mr. Williams there. We then took some ice cream together &co &co &co Friday, April 23 Quite warm today. The afternoon stood 86 in the shade. We finished O. H. Pierson’s Stable. I bought a Horse at auktion for $88.00 to work in the brick mashene. Evening I went to the Lecture delivered by the Rev. Mr. Dryden. Subject Industry. Saturday, April 24 The weather continues very warm. I worked at the yard all day. We are ready to commence to mold next Monday. I am very much pleased with my yard that I bought of Mr. Pain. Sunday, April 25 The weather very pleasant. At Sunday S. and Church as usual. We had another Union meeting at the Presbyterian Church at 4 o’clock and we had a very good turn out. Monday, April 26 The weather pleasant. We worked all day at the School House jobing. I have all things ready at the yard to begin making bricks. Evening we went to the sing. Tuesday, April 27 The weather continues very pleasant. We worked all day at the School House. We commenced to make brick today. My little pony goes very well in the mashiene. Wednesday, April 28 The weather very pleasant. We worked all day at the School House. We are trying to get it finished by Monday next so the Counsel can act upon it on Monday night. We want to get our money. We have not rec. any as yet. Thursday, April 29 Weather continues very pleasant. Nights cool. It is not quite so warm for the last few days. We worked all day at the School House. Evening I went to the Lodge. Michael Conrz(?) commenced work today. Pitt filler $55.00 per month. Friday, April 30 Weather pleasant but a little warm in the middle of the day. We are still working at the School House setting the stone steps. Frank Pasonatt commenced work today at $65.00 per month Brick setter. Saturday, May 1 Warm today and very dusty. We worked all day at the School House. We will soon be through with the jobing. We got our mortgage on O. H. Pierson’s stable today. We are not very busy now and but very little to do. Sunday, May 2 Very pleasant day. At Church and Sunday School all day. The union prayer meetings have taken the place of our afternoon meetings. Monday, May 3 I commenced to Board at yard. The weather quite windy and dusty. We finished up all the work at the School House and the committee examined it and are ready to report favourable. I rode across Feather River to see some wood at $5.75. Tuesday, May 4 Very windy and dusty all day. We built brick pears under Mack’s frame house on D. St. corner 13th St. Afternoon we went to work on Dr. Rice’s [--] House. Evening I went to the Lodge. I was ellected one of the trustees over George Merritt. Wednesday, May 5 The weather continues very windy. We worked at Dr. Rice’s today. Evening I went to the firemen’s meeting. I proposed W. K. Hudson to our company. Thursday, May 6 The weather continues very windy. Worked all day at Dr. Rice’s. I engaged 44 ½ cords of wood at $6.00 per cord. Woods worth more this summer then last. Evening I went to the school Exhibition given by Miss Buckmaster Friday, May 7 The weather continues quite windy. We finished Dr. Rice’s job and commenced a small job on 5th St. The Court House in Yuba City has finally been settled and Mr. Deardorff built it. I expect to give my figures on the brick work. Saturday, May 8 The weather pleasant but a little windy. I rode out to the Butes to do job for Mr. Hawley. I had some considerable trouble to find his place. I found most of the Butes covered with wild oats. I rode on my little pony. He rides very well. Sunday, May 9 The weather warm. At church & S. School as usual. The union prayer meetings are still kept up and with quite an interest manifested. Monday, May 10 The weather pleasant but a little warm in the middle of the day. McDonald & I are making arrangements to desolve partnership, I by him out. The settlement of our School House was brought up this evening before the city council left to a committee. Tuesday, May 11 Weather warm. I rode out after Mr. Turner one of the Bondsmen on the Publick School House to come in—did not come in. Evening the committee met but did not do much. McDonald got the Court House in Yuba City being understood previous. Josiah S. Bowen is now on co. with me. Wednesday, May 12 Today has been quite windy and dusty. I went out after Turner agan came in. We ( Bondsmen) examined all claimes on Publick School House find not enough money covering to pay all demands. We loose about $200.00 a piece. Thursday, May 13 Very peasant day. Josiah & I commenced work together this morning on a job for Dr. and St. In the afternoon I got a draft for $4598.33 money due McDonald & I on the School House. We are settling all our accounts. Friday, May 14 Very windy today. We commenced to repair & in large a rainge for Mr.Pink on D. St. I gave drafts on Brumagin & co. for $1516.73 on money we have deposited there. We are trying to pay off all the debts we owe and I think that we will get through very well. Saturday, May 15 Not so windy today. I gave in our Bidd on the Pavilion a Building to be erected in Cortes Square. I worked quite late in the evening settling up with the Hands. Sunday, May 16 Weather pleasant. At church & S. School as usual. Our union meeting was very good. Our weekly meetings are still kept up. Monday, May 17 The weather very pleasant. We started Mr. J. Emmels job on E. St. I got a new teamster a Duchman for $40.00 per month. Evening I went to the sing. Tuesday, May 18 The weather pleasant. We worked all day. we finished Mr. Emmel’s job and commenced a job for Mr. Swezy on B. St. Evening I went to the Lodge. Wednesday, May 19 Rained quite hard this afternoon. We covered the Brick Kiln as well as we could. Could not mold today but it cleared off in the afternoon and eve finished Mr. Swezy’s job. Thursday, May 20 Pleasant day. We worked all day for Dinkle & Bro. on E. St. some alteration they are making to there stores. We are doing the work by the day Mason per day $8.00 [--] $4.00. The numbers to the Houses were just put up today. My House on D. St. is No. 204 Friday, May 21 Forenoon pleasant afternoon it rained quite hard. We loose a few bricks. Saturday, May 22 Very pleasant day. We finished Mr. Dinkle’s job on E. St. We commenced two other jobs one for Judge Bliss and a job for Mr. Williams & Co. Millers a job by the thousand $13.50. We had very good luck collecting today. I paid $185.00 out for wood. Sunday, May 23 Very pleasant day. At S. S. and Church all day as usual. We still keep up our union prayer meetings. Monday, May 24 Weather pleasant. We started a job at the Marysville Mill for Mr. Williams & Co. and also a small job for Judge Bliss. Evening I went to the sing. Afternoon the Yubas gave a Dinner and we had a very good time. Tuesday, May 25 The weather a little cloudy and bad for drying brick. Worked all day. Evening I went to the Lodge. P. S. We traided our little pony for a pony of Mr. Covelon Wednesday, May 26 Cloudy and rained but did not stop us from making bricks. We worked all day at the Mill. Thursday, May 27 Weather a little cloudy in the forenoon but cleared off very pretty in the afternoon. Worked all day at the Mill. We gave in our Bidd at the Gas Works. Friday, May 28 Weather very pleasant. The job on the Gas Works laying Brick is not let as yet. McDonald & I commenced to settle up our accounts today with each other. We are still trying to get the brickwork on the Gas Works. Saturday, May 29 Very pleasant day. McDonald & I have been settling up all day. We traided off to each other all our notes, or divided. I take all the stock and wagons The Bridge across Yuba River washed down today damage is about $10.000 Dollars. Sunday, May 30 Weather pleasant but a little windy. At Sunday School and church all day. Our union prayer meetings are still kept up with interest but no conversions. Monday, May 31 The weather is quite windy at times and makes it very bad for us now as we are burning a kiln of Bricks. We finished the work at the Mill and done one or two other little jobs. Evening after I attended to a little business I went to the sing. Tuesday, June 1 The weather continues about the same still windy but we are gtting along very well at the kiln. We are still kept doing something. Evening I went to the Lodge. Wednesday, June 2 The weather still keeps about the same. We did not work today but we have been quite busy looking up work. Evening went to the fire company. Thursday, June 3 Weather quite warm. We started that we have to do for Raynolds Brothers Bankers. The work that we are doing for him is at the Peaksly Building on the corner of High & 3rd Streets. P. S. I gave Mr. Deardorff my note yesterday for $335.00 at 2½ per cent per month. Friday, June 4 Very Hot today. thermometer stood 98 in the shade. We worked all day on corner of High and 3rd St. We finished burning our first kiln this eve 200,000 ( 10 holes) Saturday, June 5 The weather continues very hot. We worked all day at Raynolds building. I got a job today for Mr. Wescoat at his Ranch. The thermometer stood 101 in the shade. Sunday, June 6 The weather continues very hot. The thermometer stood 104 in the shade. At Church & Sunday School as usual. We had no union orayer meeting this afternoon. Monday, June 7 The weather has not been quite so hot today. The thermometer stood about 95 in the shade. Josiah & I are kept quite busy so far and our prospects are very good. We tryed our engine this eve and it done very well. Tuesday, June 8 Weather more pleasant than it has been . We commenced Mr. Westcoat’s job. The Fraisure River Gold mines are all the talk now and reports from there are very good. Wednesday, June 9 Weather pleasant but part of the day is quite warm. Worked all day at Mr. Westcoat’s. Thursday, June 10 The weather continues about the same. We are still at work at the same place. Evening I took the demintion of a House for Dr. McLean. Friday, June 11 The weather continues about the same. The Fraisure River Gold excitement is still raging in this place as well as all parts of Cal. I would like to go myself but can not. Saturday, June 12 Weather quite pleasant for this season of the year. I was out collecting most all day but found it very hard to raise money. Dr. McLean has desided not to build at present on account of the building costing more than he expected. Sunday, June 13 Weather pleasant. At Church & S. School all day as usual. We have discontinued our Sabbath afternoon union prayer meetings and the Baptists have not as yet resumed there prayer meetings. Monday, June 14 The weather continues quite pleasant for this season of the year. We finished Mr. Westcoat’s job. Everything is very dull now on account of the excitement at Fraisure’s River. Tuesday, June 15 Weather continues pleasant. We had a little sprinkle of Rain today but nothing to hurt. We walked about all day today waiting for some work to get ready. The Fraisure River excitement keeps up all the Stages came in full for now Gold discovered. Wednesday, June 16 Weather quite pleasant. Josiah & I walked about most all day. We are still waiting for some work to get ready. Thursday, June 17 Part of the day was quite warm and windy. Josiah & I made some morter Boards while we are waiting on our work I sold Thirty Thousand bricks deliverd ( or engeged) to Mr. Barnes Bucher at $8.00 Friday, June 18 We had quite a shower last night and agan this afternoon it damaged the Brick considerable but not enough to spoil them. We commenced a job for Messrs. Low & Bro. on First St. & also the Gas Works. Evening went to the consel they findley settled the School House affar. Saturday, June 19 Weather very pleasant. We are quite busy now. More news from Fraisure river continues very favourable great excitement. Thousands are leaving Cal. to go there and the supposition is that it will hurt this Country for a year or two. Sunday, June 20 Very pleasant day. At Sunday School all day as usual. Thursday, July 8 I went up to Oroville today and came back. I found the principal part of it all burnt down. Bricklayers are in demand there now at about $7.00 per day. I have some work here and cannot leave. Friday, July 9 Quite warm today. I commenced to oil and pencil down Mr. Raynold’s front on 3rd St. I felt very tired today after my visit to Oroville. I rode down on Horse back and it made me very sore you bett. Saturday, July 10 Very warm all day. We worked all day. we are still kept quite busy jobing about. I pencilled on Raynold’s front all day on 3rd St. We have not quit making brick yet. Sunday, July 11 Very Hot today. Thermometer stood at 110 in the shade. At church & Sunday School as usual excepting Presbiterian sabbith school. Monday, July 12 Very warm today but not quite as warm as it was yesterday. We still are at work jobing about. Work is very slack now and prospects very bad at presant. Evening I went to the Singing Society. Tuesday, July 13 Quite warm today but we had quite a good breeze. I done some work today at the graveyards. Evening I went to the Lodge. I am Purmenent Secretary now of the Lodge. Wednesday, July 14 Weather pleasant. We are not doing very much now. Times are quite dull. Afternoon I began to get 2 pavements ready to take up and repave on First St. Evening went to Fire Company. Thursday, July 15 Weather continues quite pleasant. I did a little job for Sparrow & Bro. Afternoon I made out a lot of Bills to try and collect tomorrow. Evening we went to the singing society. Saturday, July 17 Weather continues pleasant. I done nothing today but try and collect some money done quite well considering the dull times. Sunday, July 18 Weather pleasant. At Church & Sabbith School as usual. Monday, July 19 The weather continues pleasant. Part of the day is warm. I worked at the kiln all day geting it ready to burn. Tuesday, July 20 Weather continues about the same. We got the kiln most ready to set fire to. Evening I went to the Lodge and we also done a job at the Merchant’s Hotel Wednesday, July 21 Weather pleasant but a little to windy for us while burning our kiln. We set fire this morning. We have about 400,000 in this kiln. (20 holes) Thursday, July 22 The weather continues a little windy but the kiln is getting along very well. We did a job for Mr. Westinhuver(?) at the graveyard. I am helping to burn the kiln. I am from 12 in the day to 12 at night. Friday, July 23 The weather continues about the same. We are still burning our kiln. I am making a hand at the kiln burning. I did not go to the sing this evening on account of working at the kiln. Saturday, July 24 weather pleasant. The kiln is geting along very well but slow. It is taken a little more wood than we expected and wood scarce & high. We have to pay $6.00 per cord and not very good wood at that. I saw Col. Tompkins about a job in Oroville. Sunday, July 25 very pleasant day. I stopt at the kiln half of today to help to burn the kiln. Consequently I did not get to go to Church or S. School. Monday, July 26 Commenced to Board with Mrs. Sherman. The weather continues very pleasant for this season of the year. We finished burning the kiln at noon today and we got a very good burn 5½ days and 5 nights burning took about 100 cords to burn it. Tuesday, July 27 Weather continues very pleasant. I got a job today to do for Messrs McNess & Daugherty a Saloon on the corner of C. and 5th Sts. We still keep doing something. We Burned Six Hundred Thousand Brick this season. We have now about 500,000 on Hand. Wednesday, July 28 The weather warm in the middle of the day but the Nights are quite cool. We commenced McNess & Co. job this morning. It is only a temporary building to be used time of the Fair and Ball. Thursday, July 29 The weather continues about the same. We worked all day on our job. Evening I went to the fire company pointed on a committee to have our room cleaned. Friday, July 30 Quite warm today. We finished our house today on Cortes Square and C. St. Evening we went to the sing stoped as we came back and had Ice Cream and had a very good time. Saturday, July 31 Quite warm today. I spent the day looking after some jobs and collecting money done very well raised almost $500 paid off the yard hands as far as it would go. Sunday, August 1 Quite warm today. the Rev. J. G. Pecks preached for us today in the M. E. Church. At Sunday S. as usual. Monday, August 2 Not quite so warm today. Worked all day today doing some jobing for Dr. Rice and John Packard. Times are quite busy now on account of the Fair opening next Monday. Evening I went to the Drill & Fire allso to the dellegates meeting. Saturday, August 21 We had quite a thunder storm today rained quite hard a little while. We finished up the job on E. St. Stable and paved in front of McDonald’s stable. The great Fair opened today and the Town full of people and quite a number of places of amusements such a Sis Theatres Minstrels & Co. Evening I went to the sing and Fair. Tuesday, August 24 Weather very pleasant. I stoped at Home all day read. Evening the Fire Companys turned out to recive two companys from Sacremento to the Eureka and Warren company. They got up on the boat about 10 o’clock. Wednesday, August 25 The weather continues very pleasant. The Town a live with people coming into it and everything is agoing off very pleasantly. Everything exibited at the Fair is very good & very largely attended. Thursday, August 26 The weather continues very pleasant. The Engines threw for the Prises today. We being the sucsesfull company won the prize 4400.00. We threw 112-5 feet in. The contest was very exciting there being Seven companys in the field Friday, August 27 Part of today was quite warm. Our Company Berryed one of its Members this morning. Samues(?) Page and another member of the company Snowhite got stabed and is expected to Die every minute. The company feels very bad about it. Stage Company large stables today. I make it 488,563 Bricks without the openings. I am figuring it at 13.50 per thousand. Thursday, September 9 The weather continues pleasant but a little warm in the middle of the day. There seems to be quite an excitement about the bidding on the Stable all are ancious to get it. Monday, September 27 A little warm in afternoon. The Laying of the Atlantic telegraph Cable was Celebrated today. The turnout of the citizens and companys & co in the afternoon was very great as well as the Torch light persession at night. All went off very well & in good order. We had quite a fire last night after the excitement 3 or 4 large frame houses on the corner of A & Second Streets. One of the Houses belong to Pinkum the Bricklayer. We worked all day very hard as usual on Mr. Moxley’s Houses. We are selling brick now at the kiln for $8.00 & $10.00. Saturday, October 9 Quite a pleasant day. We finished up Mr. Moxley’s two stores on D. St. We got them up very quick. We will go out to Judge Bliss House next Monday. The comet looked very pretty tonight. I done some work for the Railroad Company a little jobing in the Market House. Evening I went to the Sing. Tuesday, October 12 weather pleasant but part of the day is quite warm. We worked all day on the Judges House. We are quite busy now and we are geting $10.00 per thousand at yard for our brick. Evening went to the Lodge. Wednesday, October 13 Today was very Hot. We worked all day. The comet is still seen every evening. It is a very pretty sight. Its distance from this Earth is estimated 51,900,000 Miles. It is working its way toward the Sun. Thursday, October 14 Very windy today and thretened rain. It did rain considerable in the Mountains it sprinkled a little here. We worked all day but it was very disagreeable on account of the wind. It was very hard on my Eyes but we stood it out. Friday, October 15 Today has been another disagreeable day on account of the wind. We worked all day. Mr. Merret & Kusel came up to my room to examine the Per. Secretarys Books of Yuba Lodge No. 5 I. O. O. F. Saturday, October 16 The nights are very cool. Windy today but not quite so bad as it has been. We worked all day. We are geting along very well with the Judge’s House. Sunday, October 17 The weather pleasant today. The Rev. Mr. Wallsworth Presbiterian minister has returned from the Sandwich Islands. He preached today in his church I was to hear him in the afternoon at 2 o’clock. I went to the M. E. S. School as usual. Monday, October 18 The days are pleasant but the nights are quite cold. We worked all day on the Judges House. The comet is still vizable in the evenings. Tuesday, October 19 It froze the morter on the boards quite hard last night. We still are at work on the Judges House. Evening I went to the Lodge. We admitted an ancient Oddfellow by deposit of card in our Lodge this evening. Mr. Timothy Dame(?) (a Lawyer) Wednesday, October 20 The weather pleasant but the nights keeps cool. We worked all day. I engaged three Hundred Dollars worth more of Lime at one cent per pound and we get the first load today. We pay for it in Brickwork. Thursday, October 21 It commenced to rain last night about 12 o’ clock and rained all night and all day and untill very late this evening. Our wall at the Judge’s got very wet. Very unusual hard rain for the season. Friday, October 22 Cloudy but no rain of any consequence. We worked all day but the rain has made the roads so bad that the teamster can not keep us agoing in Brick. Evening we went to the sing. Saturday, October 23 Cloudy and rained a little. We finished up the Judge’s House to the square of the last story. In the afternoon I figured up a House on C. St. for Mr. Read and done a little collecting. Sunday, October 24 Very pleasant day. I attended the Rev. Mr. Coopper Church today. At Sabbath School as usual. Monday, October 25 Weather pleasant but windy. We bought a Seller pat Sewart’s man (?) our teamster is Boarding with him at $7.00 per week. Evening went to a Church meeting and to see Mr. Read about some work and to the sing. Tuesday, October 26 The weather more pleasant. We finished Pat’s job and commenced to loft out the Judge’s House. I saw Mr. Read this eve and he gave us his house to build on the Corner of C. and 4th St. We get $940.00 for doing the brick work. Then went to the Lodge. Wednesday, October 27 Weather pleasant. We let Dan White go to work for us today. We got the Judges House topped out today and commenced on the ary walls. Thursday, October 28 The weather continues very cloudy and looked very much like rain this eve. We worked all day on the Judges ary walls. We are very busy now we have 3 or 4 houses on hand. We are getting $14.00 per thousand for all the bricks we lay. Friday, October 29 Weather pleasant. I commenced Mrs. Read’s House this afternoon. Joe & Dan is finishing up the Judges House. Evening went to the sing. Saturday, October 30 Very pleasant day but quite warm at work. I worked all day on Mrs. Read’s House. Joe & Dan is at the Judge’s yet. Sunday, October 31 Very pleasant day. At Church & Sabbath School all day. I attended the M. E. Church in the morning and the Presbyterian in the evening. Monday, November 1 The weather continues very pleasant. The mornings are a little foggy. We worked all day. Joe finished at the Judges today. I worked all day at the Read’s House. Evening went to the sing. Tuesday, November 2 Weather continues pleasant. We worked all day. We started a House for a Woman on C. St. The brickwork amounts to $530.00. Evening went to the Lodge. Wednesday, November 3 Quite warm part of the day. We commenced on the main story of Mrs. Read’s House today. Evening went to the firemen’s meeting. Thursday, November 4 The weather continues very pleasant. We worked all day on Mrs. Read’s House. We are very busy now we have all the work that we can do. Friday, November 5 Weather pleasant. Worked all day at the same place. We are having very pleasant weather for our work and we are geting along with it very well. Saturday, November 6 Weather pleasant. We are still at work on Mrs. Read’s House. We sold some more bricks today for $1.00 per hundred. We are geting that now for all we sell Sunday, November 7 Very pleasant day. At church and Sabbath School all day as usual. Monday, November 8 The weather continues very pleasant. We are at work yet on Mrs Read’s House. Evening went to the sing. Tuesday, November 9 The weather continues very pleasant. We finished up the mane story of Mrs. Read’s house. Evening I went to the Lodge. We initiated C. G. Bockius(?) this evening. Wednesday, November 10 Weather pleasant. I commenced some improvements at my House on D. St. puting in a board floor and cleaning the walls &co. I worked this evening walling up the doorway that stood at the head of the Basement steps. Thursday, November 11 The weather continues very pleasant. We are topping out the Read’s house. Evening I layed a harth in the front Basement. Friday, November 12 The weather continues very pleasant. We are still very busy. I am boarding at the Fashion while the house is being repaired. Evening We went to the sing. Saturday, November 13 Very foggy this morning but cleared off about noon. We worked all day on Sarah’s House on C. St. We are puting the front up with Press Brick. Sunday, November 14 Weather very pleasant. At Church & Sabbath School as usual. In the morning I attended the Episcopal eve the Presbyterian Church. Monday, November 15 The weather continues very pleasant. We worked all day on Sarah’s House on C. St. Evening we went to the sing. Tuesday, November 16 The weather continuing pleasant. We topped out Sarah’s House today and got the money $535.00. Evening I went to the Lodge. We had a very full attendance and I took in $82.50. One was submitted by deposit card. Wednesday, November 17 Weather continues pleasant. We finished up Mrs. Read’s house and I also finished Mr. Moxley’s 2 houses on D. St. second to the corner of 3rd. St. I had a pleasure of seeing E. Graham & Staler from Bal. Thursday, November 18 Weather pleasant. We rebuilt a ary wall that fell down at Judge Bliss House. We are still kept at work we have all that we can do and we are getting 10 & 11$ per thousand for our brick at the kiln. Friday, November 19 Weather a little cloudy and thetening rain. We paved the sidewalk around the Haun House today and also a pavement for the Publick School Commissioners. Saturday, November 20 Quite cloudy in the morning but the balance of the day was very pleasant. We built a yard wall for Miss Sarah on C. St. We have got through with the hurred part of our work. Sunday, November 21 Very pleasant today. At Church & Sabbath School as usual. Monday, November 22 Weather very favourable. We paved the two side walks at the Haun House and some paveing at the Publick School House on the corner of 4th & E. Streets. Evening went to the sing. Tuesday, November 23 Weather pleasant but it was very foggy this morning. We worked part of today for Miss Sarah on C. St. We are wateing on some work. Evening I went to the Lodge. Wednesday, November 24 Very pleasant day. We started a House on High St. for W. Hase & in the meantime he sold the Lott and we had to stop. He paid us for what we done. In the afternoon I figured up some work that we have been doing for G. Aubery Thursday, November 25 Thanksgiving day. The three prostant Churches united in one Church ( Episcopal) and had preaching at 11 o’clock by the Rev. Mr. Coopper. The day was very pleasant. We did not work today. Friday, November 26 Weather very pleasant. We are not doing much now. We are wateing on some work which we expect will be ready in a fue days. Saturday, November 27 Very pleasant day. I put a pump in my House on D. St. It is a very good one it will cost me about 70 or 80 dollars. I helped them at it all day. Sunday, November 28 Weather very pleasant. At the Episcopal in the morning & the M. E. in the evening. Sabbath School in the afternoon at 2 o’clock. Monday, November 29 The weather continues pleasant. We are wateing on 2 jobs to get ready one for J. Smith and one for a wheelwright on the corner of 4th and F. St. Evening we went to the sing. We settled up with Judge Bliss and took his note for the balance ($1550.00) at 2 per cent per month. Tuesday, November 30 The weather continues very pleasant but the nights are quite cool with a frost. We are still wateing for our work to get ready. I barganed with G. Augery to do some work for me on the House corner of 5th & F St. Evening went to the Lodge. Wednesday, December 1 Weather pleasant but a little cool. I commenced to do some work for myself today at 5 Street House put in some openings and extend the orning all around on the West side and move the front Door. The improvements that I am making will cost about $240 Dollars. Thursday, December 2 Weather cool. I worked all day at my house on 5th St. We have 2 or 3 houses to build but they are not ready for us to Begin. Eve I went to the Serenade with Mr. Hamilton. Friday, December 3 Quite cool and windy. Last night it froze quite hard enough to buere(?) one place that I saw. The Carpenters is still at work at my House on 5th St. Saturday, December 4 Quite cool and very windy. I rode out to see some wood that we are geting out. We are paying $2.75 per cord on the ground ( cut ) and we will have to hall it about 7 or 8 miles. Wood is quite scarce we can not by it for any way less than $6.00 per cord. Sunday, December 5 The weather continues quite cool. I attended Church & Sabbath School as usual. Monday, December 6 The weather quite cool & it freezes quite hard at night. We are not doing anything yet. We have work but it is not ready. In the eve we went to the sing & I allso called on Mr. Willson to see him about some work. Tuesday, December 7 The weather continues cold and freezing. I finished figureing up the amount of Bricks in the Building for the Waterworks it measured 627,763 Bricks. Evening I went to the Lodge. Mr. Sherman came in the Lodge. Wednesday, December 8 The weather continues quite cold. We are still waiting on some work to get ready. Thursday, December 9 Not quite so cold today. We worked all day. We sat [--] kiln for Mr. Willson & in the afternoon we done some work for Dr. D. W. C. Rice at the graveyard. Our Choral Harmonic gave the first concert this evening in Theatre very full House. Friday, December 10 Rained quite hard today. I made a bargen with Mr. Pitts today to cut all the wood. We want for $2.00 per cord and hall it for $2.00 per cord. We pay 50 cents for it standing. Good wood is selling for $6.00 per cord. Saturday, December 11 The weather continues bad but what we all need at present. I put in my Bidd on the Waterworks this afternoon ($16,300.00) We had John A Steal’s figures on the carpenter’s work Painting and Iron work Sunday, December 12 Weather cloudy but very little rain. At church & Sabbath School as usual. I attended the Rev. Mr. Coopper’s Church today it being his last Sabbath among us before he returns to the Atlantic States. Monday, December 13 The weather cool but clear. We were busy all day. I put in uor Bid on the Brick sewer to be commenced on B. St. at $3.87 & $4.75 per running foot. Evening I went to the Choral Harmonic Society Tuesday, December 14 The weather cool but pleasant. We started Smith’s and Stanwood’s House on corner of 4th & E. St. We get $15.00 per thousand. Evening went to the Lodge. Wednesday, December 15 Weather very foggy and damp. We worked all day on Smith & Stanwood’s House. I got the Brickwork of the Waterworks to do today at $17.00 per thousand to be hard bricks and well groutted joints 3/8 thick. Thursday, December 16 The weather continues about the same. We worked all day on the same job. In the evening Miss Emily & I called on Dr. McLean and we spent a very pleasant evening. The Rev. Mr. Driden & Mr. Blair was there. Friday, December 17 Not quite so foggy today. Part of the day was quite pleasant. We worked all day. Evening we went to the sing. Did not feel very well in evening. Saturday, December 18 Weather quite pleasant today. We worked all day. I felt quite unwell this evening with some large Biles face and neck. Sunday, December 19 Weather pleasant but a little cool. At Church in the morning & at Sabbath School in the afternoon. But did not go to Church in the evening on account of my Biles being so bad. Monday, December 20 Weather pleasant. We worked all day on Smith’s and Stanwood’s House. Did not go out in the evening I am reading Benjamin Franklin. Tuesday, December 21 Weather cloudy and rained a little in the morning. We went to work in the afternoon. Evening I went to the Lodge. Wednesday, December 22 Weather pleasant but a little cool. We worked all day got the first story up for the Joist. Smith’s and Stanwood’s House. Stayed at home in the evening. Thursday, December 23 Rained most of today quite hard. We started a privey for Mr. Read but we stopped on account of the rain. Friday, December 24 Rained last night and part of today. We finished Mr. Read’s privy. Today is Christmas Eve and everybody is making preparations for tomorrow. I bought me a very nice overcoat for $24.00. Saturday, December 25 Christmas Day. Weather very pleasant. I spent most of the day at Home. This being the fifth Christmas that I have spent in Marysville, Cal. Sunday, December 26 Weather pleasant but a little cloudy & rained a little. At Church in the morning & Sabbath School in the afternoon. Monday, December 27 The weather keeps cloudy and wet the streets are very muddy. We do not expect to Build the waterworks. They want us to sign a contract to have it finished by the first of June. We wont do it. Tuesday, December 28 The weather continues about the same. The brick has got very wet at Smith’s House and keeps us from topping it out. That is about all that we have on hand at present. Evening went to the Lodge. Wednesday, December 29 Weather continues about the same. We worked part of the day on Smith’s House. Thursday, December 30 Weather cloudy damp. We topped out Smith’s & Stanwood’s House today. I did not work today I have several Biles on my neck & finger so I could not work today but Josiah is at work. Friday, December 31 Weather continues the same. I have not got any better yet. My finger is very painfull. I was out this afternoon trying to collect some money but did not succeed times are a little dull at present but prospects very good. We have about 150 or 160 thousand bricks on hand. We are selling them at the kiln for $1.25 per hundred and laying them for $14 or 15 Dollars per thousand
