At home in the morning. Afternoon I worked at the graveyard walling up the grave for Montgomery’s two children Boys one 6 and one 4 years. They were poisoned eating frog stools. The water continues quite high in the river & slew and the roads is in a horable condition. We got weighed at the Fair. Sallie weighed 150 lbs I weighed 160. Thursday, January 2 Weather pleasant but a little cool. I am busy but I cannot hall brick on account of the roads being to very bad. I went out to the Hospittle this afternoon to see about some work building some pears in front for a large porch. We are all very well. Friday, January 3 The weather was very cool this morning it froze quite hard last night. I worked at the Hospittle most all day. Worked at Mr. J. H. Wright’s Powder House in the afternoon. We are all well. Saturday, January 4 Weather continues about the same very cool. This morning was quite cool. I finished at the Powder House at noon. Afternoon Pat & I worked at the Post Office the balance of the day. A side ary fell down during that high rain we had here. We are all well. Sunday, January 5 Weather very stormy all day. Part of the time it snowed quite hard and would have made quite a show on the ground had it not been so wet. I did not get to Church all day. We have had a great deal of very bad weather this winter. We are all very well. Monday, January 6 Weather very cold this morning. The Butes was quite white with snow a very rare thing. I went to work at 9 at the Post Office Building an ary wall that fell down. We are all continuing very well. Tuesday, January 7 Weather cool & cloudy. Rained most of the day. Got my job done in the morning. The streets is in an horable condition on account of so much wet weather. We all continue very well but it has been quite sickley here this winter. Wednesday, January 8 Weather continues very bad. Raining most of the time and very windy at times. The rodes from the kiln is so bad that I can not get any brick to town so that I have very little that I can do. We are all very well. Thursday, January 9 The weather continues very showery. I done some work at home today cut a door way from our back room to the parlor. We keep the children up stares alltogether this winter but the Basement keeps dry considering. Friday, January 10 Weather continues very bad. Rained very hard part of today & the water has been rising very fast all day and has every appearance of an other high flud. Evening water still rising. We made up our mines to stay up to watch the water. We are afraid it will get in our Basement. At midnight it is about as high as the last big flud. Saturday, January 11 Today has been rather pleasant over head. The water continues rising all last night & all today & has got about 8 inches above the flood (where we live) of the 9th of Dec. last & this makes the 4th we have had this winter. This is the largest flud ever known in this Country. Most of the valie as far as one can see is all covered. Water commenced this eve to fall. Sunday, January 12 Water fell last night about 3 or 4 feet. Weather has been pleasant most of today. We had no Church at our Church on account of high water. I saw my shantes at the yard they are all there. Sallie & I went to the Methodist Church this evening. Monday, January 13 Weather quite cool this morning. Weather so bad I can not do anything. I have been walking about all day. I feel very anxious to get to work. We have had so much rain this winter that all the houses are getting damp. We all keep very well. Tuesday, January 14 The weather is still unsettled. The streets & roads are in an affull condition on account of so much rain. Wood is getting very scarce about Town & very high. My pump on D St. all fell in the well last night. The dirt gave way just below the [--]. I put in City water today and intend of making a sesspool of the well. Wednesday, January 15 Weather cloudy & wet part of the time. Every body seemed in hopes yesterday that we were going to have some good weather but it seems hard for it to clear off. I worked on D St. all day fixing a sink to carry the wast water in the well. I think I will go to San Francisco in the morning. Thursday, January 16 Weather continues very bad. It rained most all day and the wind blew from the North the first time I ever saw it rain when the wind blew from that quarter. It has the appearance of another flood. Every body is complaining very much of the bad weather. It is worse on stock than anything else. We are all well. Friday, January 17 Weather continues about the same. It is still raining and the wind is still from the North Thousands of stock is dieing on account of the Bad weather. I did not get off to go to the Bay yesterday but I think I will go in the morning if it dont look too much like another flood. We are all well. Saturday, January 18 Weather continues cloudy & dull. I started to San Francisco at 7 this morning. We found the river very high all the way down. We arrived at Sacramento about noon and took Dinner there. We found the hole town fludded so bad that they had to use boats in all the streets. We went down from there on the Chrisopolis arrived at 7½ o’clock stopped at the What Cheer House Sunday, January 19 In San Francisco weather very wet and bad. I went to the Baptist Church morning & evening. Mr. Chenny preached morning & evening. I find S. F. improveing fast and the improvement is of the very best Kind but the people are complaining about hard times on account of the flud. I found some of my old friends. Monday, January 20 Weather continues stormy. I found most of my old friends today. Mr. Armor is well & at work. I could not walk about much on account of the rain. I saw the man about the new stile Rainge and found out how they were sat. Bro. Armor & I took quite a long walk to see the brickyards and try to see a four wheel dumping cart. Tuesday, January 21 Weather continues about the same. I stoped with Bro. Armor last night & he was with me the most of today. I called to see Mrs. Gettis & Miss Rigbey at ¼ past 4 this evening. I started back on the Antelope. We had quite a race up to Sacramento with the Nevada. Staid abord all night. Wednesday, January 22 At Sacramento. Weather still bad & the city still fluded & every body leaveing that can get away that is not doing anything. We found the country very much fludded all the way up to Marysville & a great many cattle perishing all the way up from Benecha to Marysville. Arrived at home about 4 and found all well but another flud. Thursday, January 23 Weather clear today but quite cool. Most everybody is complaining about hard times. Provisions is geting scarce and have about dubled in price in the last week. Flour is $6 per hundred potatoes 4 & 5 cts per pound. Wood is selling for 12 to 16 Dollars per cord. We are all well. Friday, January 24 Weather continues about the same as yesterday. I measured up a building this morning for Stoops. Afternoon I done some work on the Dawson House. At home all the evening. We all continues very well. Saturday, January 25 Weather continues about the same. It Froze quite hard last night. I drove the White and Black oxen out on Samson’s ranch this morning. It has been affull weather on stock. I stoped at the State Reform School and got my Lime. It was the first time I ever saw it. We are all well. Sunday, January 26 Weather pleasant. Sallie went with me to Church morning & evening. The walking is very bad. The streets & roads is in affull condition on account of so much rain. Our Sabbath School was quite small today. The family is all well. Monday, January 27 Weather clear but very cold. The ground was all frozen this morning and the ice was about 2 inches thick. I took a walk down to the Feather River Bridge. I think part of the town looks bad on account of the high water. Tuesday, January 28 Weather continues cold and it freezes quite hard of night. I have not been able to do any thing scarcely for the last 2 or 3 Months on account of the bad weather. I am at home most of the time. Wood Hay and everything keeps up very high. We are all well. Wednesday, January 29 On getting up this morning we were very much surprised to find about 3 inches of snow on the ground and it continued snowing all day. The Boys had quite a lively time of it snow bawling. It looks like one of our old fashond winters at home. Thursday, January 30 Weather continues about the same but not snowing yet. It still lies on the ground. I saw some slays out. We are all well. Friday, January 31 Weather continues about the same but the snow is melting away fast. The nights keep quite cool. Every thing keeps quiet these wet times. I cant do anything. We are all well. Saturday, February 1 Today has been quite pleasant and we are all in hopes that we are agoing to have some good weather. I found it quite hard to collect money today. We are all well. Sunday, February 2 Weather cloudy and rained quite hard in the evening. Sallie & I went to Church in the morning. We did not go in the evening on account of the rain. We had Sabbath School after Church this morning but the school was not very large on account of the weather. Monday, February 3 Weather wet and bad most all day. I fixed up the shades to the parlor windows. Evening I went to our firemen’s meeting but on account of not a corum present we adjurned. Family is all well. Tuesday, February 4 Weather pleasant today but a little cool. The nights are quite cool. Evening the citizens had a town meeting in City hall to try to devise means to get the State Capital at Marysville. The meeting was quite enthusiastick. A committee of 8 was appointed to solisit $60,000 to build a building for that purpose. Wednesday, February 5 Weather pleasant but a little cool. I am doing nothing now but walking about. I took a walk down to Feather River this afternoon. I found plenty of sand deposited close to town on the low land lying between town and the Feather river. Evening went to a meeting at the Odd F. Hall. Thursday, February 6 Weather quite pleasant today. I have been quite busy today walking about doing nothing with the excepttion of getting one job to do as soon as the weather will permitt at Graveyard. At Home all the evening. All the family is well. Friday, February 7 Weather continues quite pleasant. I got ready to set a Rainge at the Western Hotel. I also got ready to build a little stable in the Cort House Yard for Mr. Barret the Sharif. Evening I went to the rehersal at our Church. We are all very well. Saturday, February 8 Weather continues pleasant. I got to the Rainge at the Western Hotel about 9 this morning. It is a new stile rainge and a very good one. We are all well. Sunday, February 9 Weather pleasant. Sallie & I at Church morning & evening. We had a very good attendance in the morning but not so many out in the evening. We are all well. Monday, February 10 Weather continues very pleasant. I commenced my job at the Cort House today. I had to get the brick to do it in town on account of the roads being so bad but if the weather continues the way it has been for a few days I can hall from the kiln. Family all well. Tuesday, February 11 Weather continues very pleasant. I finished at the Cort House and done a little job for J. W. Moore. I got the brickwork to do at the Cort House to do in Yuba City. I do it by the day to be paid in script. I am to get $7.00. Evening at the Delegates meeting. Wednesday, February 12 Weather very pleasant. Got ready and started at work repairing the Cort House in Yuba City the flood has damaged it considerable. The roads are getting quite good now at home all the evening. We are all well. Thursday, February 13 Weather continues very pleasant. We worked all day at the Cort House in Yuba City. We are all well. The Supervisors of Sutter Co. are extending the free Bridge and making some repairs on the old one that has washed away. Friday, February 14 Weather continues pleasant. We are still working at the same place. Evening I went to the sing. We are all very well. Saturday, February 15 Weather continues very pleasant. We are still at the Cort House. I rec. a letter from Bro. Jacob today it brought the good news that Jacob & sister Eliza had joined the Baptist Church. We are all very well. Sunday, February 16 Weather pleasant. Sallie was with me at Church in the morning but not in the evening. We had a very good turnout in the morning the weather being so pleasant. The walking has got considerable better than it has been. Monday, February 17 Weather continues very pleasant. We worked all day at the Yuba City Cort House. Pat McCarty is working for me. Jerneyman wages are $6 per day for good hands. That’s what I pay Pat. We are all well. Tuesday, February 18 Weather continues about the same. The nights are very cold. We are still working at the Yuba City Cort House. We are all very well. Wednesday, February 19 Weather continues about the same. Nights cold. We are still working at the Cort House. We are all well. Thursday, February 20 Weather very windy today and affall dusty. We are still at the Cort House. All well. Friday, February 21 Rained most all day today. We worked untill noon. I started some work for Mr. Boyed County Treasuser of Sutter County. Wood is very high yet. I just bought a little load and had to pay 6 Dollars. We are all well except slight coalds. Saturday, February 22 The wind blew and it rained most all day so I did not work today. I did a little collecting and paid some money out. Today was pretty well observed by the citizens of Marysville it being Washington’s Birthday. Most all the stores was closed. The Family is all well. Sunday, February 23 Weather morning cloudy. Rained in the afternoon. Sallie went to Church in the morning. We did not go to Church in the afternoon or evening. I was at Sabbath School. Our school is not very large now while the weather is so bad. Monday, February 24 Weather cloudy & very windy. We worked at the Yuba City Cort House. We put down the pavement on the North side today. We are all very well at Home all the evening. Tuesday, February 25 Rained all day today & last night so we could not work today. We are all well. Wednesday, February 26 It did not rain very much today but the water’s so high that we cannot get over to Yuba City to work. I went on Charles Hapgood notes today for one thousand Dollars and also for $1000 on John Love for his appearance at Cort. Thursday, February 27 Weather continues cloudy & wet. We have not got to work yet. I sent a letter to Bro. Jacob today. I got news today that I have lost another Ox died on Samson’s ranch. We are all well. Friday, February 28 Weather very pleasant. I walked up to Samson’s Ranch today and drove down the white ox. I found him very poor. I had quite a hard time getting him home. I had to wade all the slews. We are all well. Saturday, March 1 Weather cool & windy. We let our woman go today. We are going to try and do our own work. I did a little job for Mr. Wickersham today. We are all well. Sunday, March 2 Weather pleasant. I went to Church in the morning and to Sabbath School & Sallie & Dorsey went in the evening and I stayed home and mined the children. We are all very well. Monday, March 3 Weather pleasant but quite cool part of the day. Jerry & I worked all day at the Boyd’s in Yuba City building a chimney. We are all well. Tuesday, March 4 Weather continues about the same. We worked part of the day at the Court House and Part at Mr. Boyd’s. We all continue very well. Charlie is growing finely and Ella is also looking very well. Wednesday, March 5 Weather pleasant. We worked all day at the Court House today Jerry & I paveing & pointing up. We are all very well. Thursday, March 6 Weather continues pleasant. The wind blew quite cool from the North this morning. I finished at the Court House and Boyd’s today and got all my schaffolding away. Mrs Emily Hapgood and Miss Annie Wilson called to see us this evening. We are all well. Friday, March 7 Weather cloudy & rained quite hard part of the day. We worked untill noon on Henry’s little house on the Alley back of Public School. It is the little house I started just before the first flood. Saturday, March 8 Waether very pleasant today. We worked all day at Henry’s. I am quite busy now jobing &co. We are all well. Miss Carry Green spent the day with us. Sunday, March 9 Weather pleasant part of the day. Rained a little in the evening. Sallie did not get out to Church all day. We had a very good school today. We had a very good class Frank & George Strong & Willey Hamilton. Monday, March 10 Weather bad. Rained most all day. I worked in the afternoon paveing in the Empire Block. We are having very bad weather this winter much rain. We are all well. Tuesday, March 11 Weather continues bad. So much so that I cannot do anything. The weather has been so bad and so much of it this winter that it has made the Winter appear long. We all continue well. Eve I went to the Delegates meeting. Wednesday, March 12 Weather continues bad. At home most of the time. Most of the excitement about Town is about who shall be the candidates for City Officers. The Ellection comes off next Monday. All well. Thursday, March 13 The weather has been very pleasant today. I was out to the Brickyard arrainging some Tile. I expect to get to work in the morning. I have about three Hundred thousand Bricks still on Hand. Friday, March 14 Weather bad again today. rained quite hard this morning. I rented my House on D St yesterday to Rev. Mr. Broadt for 45$ per month. I am thinknig some of building another House to live in if I can rent the one where I am living. Saturday, March 15 Weather cloudy and thretening rain. We done nothing all day. I done a little collecting but had to pay more out than I collected. I find money very scarce. We are all very well. Sunday, March 16 Weather pleasant. Sallie did not go in the morning with me to Church but did in the evening. Mrs Williams was Baptised in our Church this evening the first that has joined our Church by Baptism Monday, March 17 Weather pleasant. Today was Ellection Day for City Officers. Our old Mayor was realected. The ellection pased off very Quietly. I did not work today. The morning was quite cloudy. I was vaccinated today. Tuesday, March 18 Weather pleasant. We worked all day. We have a great many cases of smallpox in this City and quite a number has Died with it. We are all very well. Wednesday, March 19 Weather very pleasant out. We had to stop from work today on account of Brick. I find it hard to get my halling done without I let or promise all my halling for the season. Thursday, March 20 Weather very pleasant. Jerry and I worked all day. I have no one to work for me now. I am doing all my own work. I am very busy at present with small work jobing &co. We are all very well. Friday, March 21 Weather very pleasant. In fact it was quite warm part of the day. I topped out Henry’s little house today. I have some work to do in the morning for the Cal. S. Co. Eve I went to a Temperance lecture. Saturday, March 22 Weather a little warm today. We were paveing most of today for Cal. S. Co. My White ox fell down Smith’s well last Thursday. We got him out all well but a good deal of trouble. Sunday, March 23 Weather very pleasant. At Church & Sabbath School all day. Sallie went to Church with me in the Evening. We had a very good attendance at the S. S. and at Church in the morning. We are all very well. Monday, March 24 Weather pleasant. The mornings are quite cool. I finished at the Cal. Stage Company granery. I paved it all over. I done it for $11.50 per thousand. Jerry and I commenced to put that roof on Henry’s House. I am putting it on with gass tar. We are all well. Tuesday, March 25 Weather continues pleasant. Jerry & I worked at Wickersham’s at D. I am very busy now. The most of my work is jobing and lite work. Evening I went to the Lodge at I. O. O. F. Wednesday, March 26 Weather cloudy. That Sheriff’s Sale of Charles Covellow came off today. I had to attend to the sale on account of my Brick yard being in the sale. I bought it since the judgement was taken. They did not come to it today. I bought 8 or 10 lots. All well. Thursday, March 27 Weather pleasant. I finished John Wright’s curb and side walk today and also Henry’s Roof. The Sheriff’s sale was postponed from yesterday untill Saturday. We are all very well. Friday, March 28 Weather pleasant but a little cloudy today. The sale was postponed again today. They think they will have enough provideing all will come up and pay what they have bought. Pat went to work for me today. Saturday, March 29 Raining when I got up this morning and rained a little all day. I paid for my Lots that I bought at the sale today. I done some work at my House on D St. fixing the well. I went on Mr. Moors Bonds today. He is our Treasurer. Sunday, March 30 Weather very pleasant. At Church and Sabbath School all day. Evening Miss Lindey was Baptised. We are getting very well in our Church & school. We are all well. Monday, March 31 Weather pleasant. We worked at John Wright’s all day. I am very busy at present. I have a job to do for Charley Swartz besides several other jobs. We are all well. Ella is just 2 years old to night. Tuesday, April 1 Rained and blew most all day. I was busy all day. The Rev Mr. Broat is moving in my house on D st. I was working there part of today. Evening went to the Lodge. We are all very well. Wednesday, April 2 Weather better today but cloudy and a little rain. But we worked all day I started Charles job today. Pat & Jerry worked at Mr.W[--]. Rained quite hard this evening. I did not go out on that account. We are all very well. Thursday, April 3 Weather very pleasant. We worked all day at Charleys. I am doing his work on time at 0ne per cent per Month. I am laying his brick at 12$ per thousand. Family is all well. Friday, April 4 Weather quite warm part of the day. We worked all day in the same place. Evening went to the sing.F amily is all well except Charley. He seems a little unwell. Sallie spent most of today at Mrs. Sherman’s. Saturday, April 5 Weather pleasant. We are still working at Charley’s. I am getting ready to build a stable for Green & Co. I done very well today collecting. We are all very well except Charley. Sunday, April 6 Weather very pleasant. At Church and S. S. all day. Sallie did not get out all day Charley was not very well today he is teathing. Ella is very well and growing finely. Monday, April 7 Weather very pleasant. I got the two colverts to build that were awarded to me today. I signed the contract and gave my Bond. They only amount to 420 Dollars. We worked all day on Swartz job. I am very busy now. It is just what I want all I can do. We are all very well. Tuesday, April 8 Weather cloudy and rained part of the day. We worked most all day. I put in a bid for 5th St. Acquaduct this evening at $11.87½ per M. Evening I went to the Delegates meeting at the City Hall. Wednesday, April 9 Weather pleasant today. We worked all day & finished Charles Swartz House. We go to Green & Co. stable next. We are all very well. Evening did not go out. Thursday, April 10 Weather very pleasant. We started Isaac Green’s stable today & got along very well. I expect to have to take the most of it out in Wood or a span(?) of Horses. I think I will take the wood he promised to let me have it at $2 per cord on the ground and I hall it myself. Friday, April 11 Weather continues about the same. Worked all day very hard on Isaac’s Stable. I handed in a bid for the brick culvert on 3rd st. Evening I went to the sing. We are all very well. Saturday, April 12 Weather cloudy and thretening rain. We worked all day at the same place. We are getting along very well with my work. I want to start the brick culvert next week. We are all very well. Sunday, April 13 Weather pleasant. At Church in the morning and S. S. it has been thretening rain most all day. We are all well except Charley. He is not altogether well. Monday, April 14 Weather cloudy and rained a little but we worked all day on I. Green’s stable. We are getting along finely with his stable. We are all about the same. Tuesday, April 15 Weather continues about the same. We worked all day at the same place. Evening I went to the Lodge. Wednesday, April 16 Weather quite windy. We finished at the first story of I Green’s. We are getting [along] finely with my work. We are all well. Thursday, April 17 Weather continues about the same. We finished up Isaac Green’s stable first story. We went a jobing the balance of the day. We are all well. Friday, April 18 Weather quite warm All day. I worked about home all day making some repairs about the Seller. We are all very well. Saturday, April 19 Weather warm. I started the back culvert on the S[--] Road. I find it a very muddy job. Pat is jobing yet. We are all very well. Sunday, April 20 Weather pleasant. At Church and school all day. We are all very well except Charlie is not very well. Monday, April 21 Weather very pleasant. I worked all day at the culvert. Pat is still jobing. We are all well. Tuesday, April 22 Weather a little cloudy. We worked all day on the culvert. Pat was with me today. We are all well. Wednesday, April 23 Weather about the same. We worked at the same place. We are all well. Thursday, April 24 Weather very pleasant. We worked all day at culvert. Family all well. Friday, April 25 Weather pleasant. We finished at the culvert today. Got done in very good season. Family all well. Saturday, April 26 Weather pleasant. We worked all day at Mr Kingcade’s Residence repairing at the wing that [--] the House that settled during the floods we had last winter. We are all well. I am very busy at present. Sunday, April 27 Weather pleasant at Church and Sabbath School. Sallie went to Church with me in the evening. Two of my best Boys has left me on account of there Parence going to Oregon. We are all well. Monday, April 28 Weather pleasant. We worked all day at Kingcades. I stopped in the afternoon to do a job for Lennox & Elwell on 2nd st. I am still very busy. We are all well. I figured on the rebuilding of the Merchants Eatons & two other buildings this eve. Tuesday, April 29 Weather continues about the same. I worked in three places today. At Lenox & Co. at the Graveyard and at Kingcades. I set a monument for John Hoesch. Just as I was coming past the Cattle Grounds someone sat it afire. I saw two young men inside & I think it was them. Wednesday, April 30 Weather continues about the same. Quite warm most of the day. We need rain very much now on account of the crops. The last few warm days has brought down the snow & the slough has risen very high. Thursday, May 1 Weather cloudy and windy commenced to rain about 6 o’clock. We are very glad to see it. It is very much needed at present. We did not get quite through at Mr Kincades. I renewed my contract for Lime for another year at the same rate $1.25 per hundred from the wagon. Friday, May 2 Rained quite fast most all day. I was quite busy all day fixing at some on the D St house bringing City water to the Bath Tub. And in the afternoon at my house where we live I did some work about the sink raising it up. We are all well. Saturday, May 3 We had another wet day. We had quite a thunderstorm today. The rivers are rising quite fast. We are a little feared that We will have another flood. We are all well except the children. Sunday, May 4 Weather pleasant. Sallie went to Church with me today morning & evening. Family all well. Monday, May 5 Weather cool but pleasant. I started on Isaac Green’s stable 2nd story and the adjoining building to put a second story on. I get $12 and half the openings but I have to wait for the money at 1½ per cent. I also agree to take a wagon. Tuesday, May 6 Weather continues pleasant. We worked all day at the same place. We are all very well. Wednesday, May 7 Weather continues about the same. We are still at the same place. Family all well. The Grand Lodge is in session now in this place Marysville, Cal. Thursday, May 8 Very windy today. We worked all day. The bid I put in for turning the arch over the cistern tied with Craft’s . He offered to take or give 10$ & I took rather than give so he gets the job. We are all well. Friday, May 9 Cloudy commenced to rain about noon quite hard and continued all the afternoon & night. We are all well. Saturday, May 10 Weather cloudy but not much rain today. I did not work but was jobing this afternoon for me. I was trying all day to collect some money. I suceded very well. This evening I went to the sing. I bought Charlie a pair of shoes this evening his first. Sunday, May 11 Weather cloudy. Sallie went to Church morning & evening with me. I had no class today most all my Boys are gone away. We are all well. Monday, May 12 Weather pleasant. We worked all day at the Blacksmith’s shop and Isaac Green’s. We are all well. Tuesday, May 13 Weather quite changeable. Part of the day was quite pleasant but we had to stop work in the afternoon on account of rain storms. We are all well. Wednesday, May 14 Weather very pleasant today. We worked all day at the same place. I am getting along very well with my work. We are all very well. Thursday, May 15 Weather pleasant. We are still working at the same place. We are all well. Friday, May 16 Weather pleasant. We finished boath the stable and the blacksmith’s shop today about 3½ o’clock. We are all well. Saturday, May 17 Weather quite pleasant. Pat and I fixed the culvert that fell down. We found it to be a very hard job on account of the water. My hands and one of my feet are so sore I can hardly rest. Charlie is quite sick today. Sunday, May 18 Weather pleasant. We did not get to go to Church all day my foot was very sore and also my hands on account of working in the water and working wet brick. Monday, May 19 Weather pleasant. Pat & I worked all day at the graveyard. My foot and hands was quite sore all day. We are all well. Tuesday, May 20 Weather continues pleasant. We worked all day at the graveyard. Family is all well. Wednesday, May 21 Weather pleasant. I finished at the graveyard today. I got news that John Love had run away. He is the man that I went one thousand Dollars Bond a few months ago. The supposition is that we will have to pay it. Thursday, May 22 Weather continues pleasant. Part of today was quite warm. I went over to Yuba City to go on a Bond for Mr. Stephenson and while I was there I got the script for that work I done on the Cort House amounting to $77. We are all well. I commenced to figure on the Merchant’s job. Tuesday, June 10 Weather cool and pleasant. We had quite a little shower in the afternoon. I commenced a little job for A. Cutty(?) and I gave in my bid for the rebuilding of the buildings that fell down last winter on First & E streets Wednesday, June 11 Weather cool but part of the day was quite warm. The bldg job was awarded to me today. My bid was the lowest by $49. Very clost figuring. I finished at Cutty’s house today. Thursday, June 12 Weather continues pleasant. I commenced. I began my big job today. I sat some men to get ready and clean brick. I made a bargen to clean the brick & put them on the schaffold. Friday, June 13 Weather pleasant. I was busy jobing all day one [place] another. I got a job to do out at the hauspittle and commenced to get brick there. Charlie was very sick last night with the croop. We called Dr. McDaniels. Saturday, June 14 Weather pleasant, I commenced the job at the hauspittle today. We worked there all day. We are all very well. Charlie is very much better. Sunday, June 15 Weather warm. Thursday, November 13 Weather continues pleasant. We are still at Mr. S at work. We started the stable about 9 in the morning. We built an addition to the sewer on 3rd St. of some 8 feet. We are all well. Friday, November 14 Weather pleasant. We are still at the same place Mr. Selby’s. Family all well. Evening we went to the sing. It was held at Mrs. Cook’s. Saturday, November 15 Weather not quite so pleasant today on account of the wind it blew quite hard most all day. We got the first story up and commenced to top out. We are all well. Sunday, November 16 Weather continues very pleasant. Sallie did not get to go to Church today. I went morning and evening. The Church was very well attended today. Family all very well. Monday, November 17 Weather continues very pleasant. Pat and Owen did not work today. Owen’s child died and was bured this afternoon. I worked all day topping out Mr. Selby’s stable. We are all very well. Tuesday, November 18 Weather continues pleasant but the nights are cool and I find the mortar a little frozen in the morning. We topped out Selby’s stable this morning and started another stable for Mr Moor. Evening I went to the Lodge the Grand Master visited our Lodge this evening. Wednesday, November 19 Weather continues about the same. Cold in the morning. We worked all day at Mr. Moor’s. I am quite busy now with small jobs such as stables. Family continues all very well for which I feel very thankfull for. Sallie & Ellen our girl is out this evening shopping. Thursday, November 20 Weather continues about the same morning cool. We worked all day at the same place. P. S. It is this eve that Sallie went downtown shopping. Family all well. Friday, November 21 Weather continues very pleasant. Pat & I worked all day at J. W. Moor’s. Family all very well. Saturday, November 22 Weather continues about the same. Dorsey came back from Washoe arrived in the evening. He is very well and left Andrew well. We finished at Moor’s about 3 this afternoon then I commenced to get the sewer ready. Family all very well. Sunday, November 23 Weather pleasant. At Church and Sabbath School in the morning but not in the evening. Sallie did not get out all day. Family all well. Monday, November 24 Weather very pleasant today. It is my Birth Day I am 33 years of age. I started the 5th St. sewer today. It is in the slough clost to where I live at the corner 5th and F Streets. Family all well. The weather was quite cool last night & it froze a little. Tuesday, November 25 Weather continues pleasant. We are still on the sewer. Pat McCarty is helping me. Evening I went to the Lodge. Family all well. Wednesday, November 26 Weather continues very pleasant. Remarkable so far this season of the year. We finished the sewer today. In the evening I got a little job ready to do for our Minister where he lives. Family all well. Thursday, November 27 Weather very pleasant. Today is thanksgiving Day but I have to work on account of being so busy I am quite busy now with small jobs. Family all well except for slight coalds. Friday, November 28 Weather keeps remarkable pleasant. I commenced a little job at the M. E. Parsonage build a chimney & set a grate and marble mantle. Charlie had a slight touch of the Croop this morning he is now better. The rest of the Family are all well. Saturday, November 29 The Weather continues very pleasant. I finished at the Parsonage & then went to Mr. Selby’s to do some more work. Family all well. Sunday, November 30 Weather very pleasant. We had no Church at our Church today on account of our Pastor being sick. I went to the M. E. Church. Sallie did not get out today. Family all well. Monday, December 1 Weather continues very pleasant. I worked all day at Mr. Selby’s on E St. at his new House. Evening I went to the Fireman’s meeting. Family all well except for slight colds. Tuesday, December 2 Weather continues about the same. The nights are quite cool. I finished at Mr. Selby’s at noon today. After Dinner I started some paveing for and curb for Mr. Jewett the Banker. We are all well. Wednesday, December 3 Weather continues about the same nights keeps cool. I am busy now at Mr. Jewett’s for 6 or 8 days. Family all well. Thursday, December 4 Weather continues about the same. Working at the same place. I have no one working for me now except Owen the tender. I have nothing except jobing but I have plenty of that to do. Family all well. Friday, December 5 Weather continues about the same. Working at the same place. Family all well. Saturday, December 6 Weather continues pleasant except the mornings they are quite cool it froze quite hard last night. Family all well except slight colds. Sunday, December 7 Weather pleasant. Sallie & I went to our Church in the morning but owing to our Minister being unwell he did not preach in the evening so we went to the M. E. Church in the evening. The Rev. Mr. G. Deal the present Pastor preached. Monday, December 8 Weather very pleasant. We worked all day at the Jewett’s. I have no one but Owen my tender at work & I am kept very busy. Family all well except Ella she has quite a bad cold. Tuesday, December 9 Cloudy & rainy we worked untill about 3 in the afternoon and by that time we were quite wet. Family all about the same. Wednesday, December 10 Weather Cloudy and foggy but we worked all day. Family all well except Ella but she is not very bad. Thursday, December 11 Weather pleasant. I got through at Mr. Jewett’s about noon. In the afternoon I started a job for Mr. Rideout building a curb around his [house] on E. St. Family all about the same. Friday, December 12 Weather quite pleasant except the mornings they are quite cool. Owen and I are still at the same place. Evening Sallie & I went up to Mr. Rhees to the sing. Mr. Rhees is quite sick. Family is all about the same. Saturday, December 13 Weather quite cool all day. We are still at Mr. Rideout’s at work. I do not feel very well this evening. I think I have a bad cold. Ella’s cough is still bad. The balance of the Family are all well. Sunday, December 14 Weather pleasant. We had no Church at our church today on account of our Pastor being sick but we had S. S. as usual. Sallie & I went to the M. E. Church in the morning. I took Ella with us. We are all well. Monday, December 15 Weather continues pleasant but the mornings are quite cool & frosty. I finished at Mr. Rideout’s about 9. Dorsey is piecing up the pavement at the same place. In the afternoon Owen & I commenced a job at the graveyard for Mr. Smith & Rearden. Tuesday, December 16 Weather continues about the same. T. Seward helped me finish at the graveyard today. I presume he and I will do work together for a while after this. Family all well except slight colds. Wednesday, December 17 Weather continues pleasant. Seward & I commenced our first job together this morning for Raish & Bellnap, Blacksmith & Wheelwright Shop. We are all very well Thursday, December 18 Weather continues pleasant. We are still at Raish & Bellnaps job on 3rd St across from City Hall. Family all well. Friday, December 19 Weather cloudy & thretening rain. We worked at the same place all day. In the evening Sallie & I went to the Minister’s House to the sing. Family all well. Saturday, December 20 Weather cloudy and wet most all day. I sat a grate for myself after we quit work at the building. I paid $18 for it. Family all well. Sunday, December 21 Weather Cloudy & quite wet in the evening. I went to Church in the morning and S. S. Sallie did not get out all day. family all well. Monday, December 22 Weather continues rainy so we cannot work. I was home most of the day. Family all well. Tuesday, December 23 Weather continues cloudy & wet. We done nothing all day. Family all well. Wednesday, December 24 Weather cloudy and a little cold but no rain. We worked all day at the Blacksmith’s Shop. The Death of J. S. Bowen’s wife was in the Express this morning. Evening we went to our Church to a Christmas Tree. We took the children. We are all well. Thursday, December 25 Weather pleasant. I spent a very pleasant Christmas at Home. In the evening Miss Mollie Walton, Miss Curtis and Miss Root called to see us. Family all well. Friday, December 26 Weather cloudy but no rain but a very heavy mist in the morning. We topped out the shop this morning. Family all well. Saturday, December 27 Weather cloudy & damp. I put in a Frame in the Odd Fellows Hall today. Seward worked at the Blacksmith’s Shop jobing. Family all well. I made a bargen with Mr. Ogden today to build him a shop for $12 per M at ½ per cent per month. Sunday, December 29 Weather continues about the same. I worked past af today at Mr. Hartwell. We are still busy jobing. Family all well. Monday, December 30 Weather cloudy and thretening rain and did commence quite hard in the evening. We had our Anule meeting at the Church this eve. We are getting along very well in the Church financialy. Family all well. Tuesday, December 31 Weather cloudy but not much rain today. We finished up Raish and Bellnap today Well another year has just come to a close. I Trust I feal very Thankfull for the many Blessings that We have received During the year that has just past. And I hope the Good Lord will continue to Bless us as in these days past and gone. The Family are all very well.
