Jacob came in town yesterday and has been about with me all day. We was up at my new house all the morning. We took dinner with Bro. James in the afternoon. Jacob and I met Mr. G. Dorsey at the B&O R. R. Depot & made arrangements when to meet to execute the deed to his mill property to us and attend to other matters in relation to it. From there we went to see Mr. Bartwell about borrowing some money to help to make up the first judgement . We are all well. Wednesday, January 2 Weather continues cold but not quite as cold as yesterday. Jacob and I was all day attending to our Hood’s Mill property and buying a tract of 44 acres adjoining the mill property just above the dam from Turner for Eleven hundred dollars ($1100) he takes a mortgage. I have one house that I just sold on McCollough St. of 800 and the balance of 300 to our notes for three years with interest. We bought it to save trouble that Turner mite give us on account of the dam backing water on a portion of it. We are all well except little Holcombe he has quite a bad cold. Thursday, January 3 Weather continues very cold and the ground is still covered with snow. I was fixing up at the Building most all day. At one o’clock I met Mr. Bartwell at my house on business consurning the Mill. We are borrowing some 4000 four thousand dollars or Brother Jacob is to make up the first judgement. Bartwell and I met Jacob and Mary at Ellicott Mills tomorrow to give Mr. B a mortgage to secure the same. Mr.Redifer--- painter finished today and I paid him off. We are all well. Friday, January 4 Weather cold but clear. At 9 this morning I met Mr. Bartwell and him and I went out to Ellicott Mills to meet Jacob there to have a mortgage signed and recorded for four thousand 4000 dollars that Bro. Borrows to help on his part to make up the first payment at our mill property. After we got through there I went up home with Jacob and Mr. Bartwell came back home. We arrived at Jacobs about 8 in the evening. We saw Mr. Dorsey in the cars. Made arrangements to meet tomorrow at the mill. Saturday, January 5 Weather pleasant overhead but bad under foot. Jacob and I started over to the mill this morning arriving there about Eleven. We bought some things from Mr. Dorsey including a cow. We made a bargain with Mr. Selby the present Miller for this year for Six hundred seventy-five ( 675) Dollars and also to furnish cow feed and fire wood. He agrees to do our repairing about the mill or rather to work at either grinding or milling as we may need. I came in town on the 4 o’clock train found my family all well home all the evening. Sunday, January 6 Weather pleasant. I was at church morning and evening. The Dr. is at home again. He was away for a week or so at Richmond Va. He was there to assist in our church there in a revivle. We are all well Sallie and the Baby are getting first rate. Monday, January 7 Weather continues cool and windy. Jacob came in town today with Mr. G. R. Dorsey to finish up the papers and for us to pay over the balance of the first payment but did not get through today expect to tomorrow. He has a mortgage to lift first which he is now doing. I rec. a Gold Check in an order on Lees & Weller, New York today for 950 from California by telegram. In the evening Mrs Frazier, Jacob, Charlie and I went to hear the Old folks. Tuesday, January 8 Weather pleasant. We fixed up the Hood’s Mill property today. Paid over the first payment Ten thousand 10,000 dollars and gave a mortgage for the balance one and two years of 5000 each and G. R. Dorsey gave us a Deed. We now want to get there as soon as we can and get to work. Mr. Dorsey wants this week to move away so we will not be able to move there with our Familys before next week. After we got through we had the property Insured to the amount of 10, 500 ten thousand five hundred Dollars we all well Wednesday, January 9 Weather pleasant. I was attending to selling my gold this morning. I let it go about 1 o’clock at 134 ½. I had 949. Paid Wm. Cunningham one thousand and 19 dollars on Jacobs note he gave a month ago. I also paid Dr. Hartmen’s Bill. I was at the building a little while in the afternoon I stoped at James’ as I came back. I want to go out to the mill tomorrow. We are all well Thursday, January 10 Weather continues about the same it snowed a little this morning but did not last long but it cleared off and turned out to be a very pleasant day. I went out to the mill this morning and from there to Jacob’s. I went out to see about getting the size of the Stone in the Bone Mill I stayed about the mill untill after noon. I am very anxious to get there to get to work. I found Jacob busy with his corn he has not got it all husked yet. Mr. Dorsey is moving away this week. We all well Friday, January 11 Weather a little cooler today than yesterday. I left Jacob’s this morning and got over to the mill about 8:30 just a little while before the train came along. I bought the saw with me to get gummed(?) the balance of the day. I was busy seeing about the run of burrs for the bone mill. Find we will have to give about 330 dollars for a set of 4 ½ stone that will make it about 400 dollars by the time we get them in. We are all well. Saturday, January 12 Weather continues cold but clear. I was about this morning buying some things for the mill getting them ready to take out with me next Monday and also looking up some more money to use in buying wheat. I got the promise of all we will want for the present want. Evening I called to see a Mr. Neal ( cooper ). We want to rent our cooper shop and house to a cooper and get him to make our barrels. We are all well. Sunday, January 13 Weather very wintry it snowed all last night and this morning it was about 5 in deep. It did not snow much today. I did not go to church this morning the walking was so bad but went in the evening. We are all well. Monday, January 14 Weather pleasant but the ground is covered with snow and the walking is bad. I went out to Jacob’s today went by the mill and took some things for the mill. From there I walked over to Jacob’s [--] the walking very bad. Jacob did not move today as he expected on account of the weather but wants to move tomorrow. I stayed all night with Bro. Tuesday, January 15 Weather pleasant after about 10 o’clock but it was snowing quite fast untill about that time. We almost gave out the idea of moveoing today but as soon as it cleared off fore or five of the neighbours came with their large wagons and moved Bro. Family and all their furniture over and got all unloded by 4 o’clock without any axident whatever. I came along with them and stoped all night in our new home with them. We are all very much pleased with our new home. I want to move my family out this week. Wednesday, January 16 Weather clear but very cold in town this morning. On the 8:30 train arrived in Balto about 10:15. Mary went to Baker’s and I went to see about getting a new run of burrs for the bone mill. Made a bargain with Morris & Grumble for 4-6 burrs solid including ballance [--] and furrows for 8300. From there I went home found my family all well. Afternoon attended to some business. I met uncle Gabe on the street he is very well and Family. Thursday, January 17 Weather very cold. I have been quite busy all day getting ready to move tomorrow. I also got some money today from Bro. T. McDonald. I gave my note on demand with interest. Sallie and I was out shoping all the evening. We are all well. Friday, January 18 Weather continues very cold. I have been very busy all day packing up and sending away my furniture to Hood’s Mill. I sent it out by Railroad. We are all well. Saturday, January 19 Weather clear but very cold. We moved to our new home today Hood’s Mill arrived there by Rail about half past 10. Sunday, January 20 Weather continues very cold. We are now at our new home, Hood’s Mill Carril County. We could not get out much today as the weather was very cold and in the afternoon it commenced snowing and snowed very hard all evening & most all night. We are all very well except Bell. She is quite unwell with a very bad cold. Monday, January 21 Weather not quite so cold overhead but very bad under foot as the snow is about 6 or 8 inches deep. We have been trying all day to get the mill to going but it is so much frozen about the wheel that we could not get it to start. We then took up the old burrs in the Bone Mill. We are all well. Bell is something better today. We are all very much pleased with our new home so far. Tuesday, January 22 Weather cold in the morning but not quite so cold as it has been. In the middle of the day it was quite pleasant. They worked at the mill all day but did not get it to go on act. of ice. I went in town today to see about the burrs they are on the way. Called at Mother’s they are all well also on Bro. James and one or two others on business. Got back to the mill about dark. We are all well. Wednesday, January 23 Weather continues very cold so much so that we cannot run the mill. We have been at work at it all day trying to get the ice cut away from the wheel so it can go just as soon as the weather moderates. We have orders for flour first of next month but we are afraid we cannot get it ready on account of the cold weather. But we will get to work just as soon as the weather will permitt. We are all well. Bell is better. Thursday, January 24 Weather continues cold but not quite so cold as yesterday. We have not started the mill yet on account of the cold weather. Mr. Castle of Frederick came down to see us today about buying wheet for us. We expect to get him to do our business in Frederick for us. We are getting very anxious to get to work. I spoke to Mr. Reed to night about buying him out. We want to get the store just as soon as we can but money is scarce with us now. We are all well. Friday, January 25 Weather not quite so cold today. We started the mill this morning and have been running one burr all day and expect to run all night tonight if it does not get too cold. We sold a dollars worth of flour today to a man that works on the R. R. that being the first thing we have sold since we bought the property. We are all well. Saturday, January 26 Weather continues cold. We have been running the mill all day and all last night. We are selling some flour. We sent away one barrel this morning and got an order for 15 barrels to be sent away next Monday. We bought 38 bushels wheet today at $3.00 per bushels. Very good red wheet. G. R. Dorsey came up from town today and bought an order for about 150 barrels of Hood’s Mill Brand to go to the Penitentiary. We are afraid we will not be able to fill the order in time. We are all well. Sunday, January 27 Weather continues quite cold. We stayed about home all day too cold to go out. We are all well Monday, January 28 Weather continues quite cold. We was afraid to start the mill today the weather is so cold we are afraid the ice will freeze so much on the wheel that we cannot run in good weather so we thought it best to stop today. We sent off 15 barrels of our R. R. Brand to Mr. I. Gary and son in Elysville at $ 15.50 per barrel. We settled up with Mr. Dorsey for the balance of things about the mill property. We are all well. Tuesday, January 29 Weather continues very cold. We are still idle at the mill on account of the cold freezing weather. We commenced to take account of stock today in the store. We have concluded to take Mr. Reed’s stock of goods and keep the store ourselves. I find it quite a job to take an account of good stock. We are all well. Wednesday, January 30 Weather continues very cold. No work in the mill yet. We bought 160 bushels of wheet today was good quality at $2.85. We worked all day in the store taking account of goods. We expect to get through by tomorrow. We are all well. Thursday, January 31 Weather not quite so cold. We started the mill this morning. We worked all day up untill nearly midnight to take account of stock. We are all well. Friday, February 1 Weather continues quite pleasant today the first warm day we have had for a long time. We got through taking account of stock today. We are keeping the store now ourselves. John Dorsey and I are attending to it. We are all well. Saturday, February 2 Weather cloudy and wet all day. The mill ran all day had to stop in the evening to repare race bank at the Draw(?). I was in the store all day. Bro. Charles came out to see us today. He is very much pleased with our place went back in the afternoon. Mary went in with him to see Mr. Baker he is very sick and not expected to live. Sunday, February 3 Weather pleasant the warm spell has broke up the ice & raised the river and bucked up the water in our race. Jacob and I took a walk up the R. R. today. I feel very sorry we have no church to attend. We are all well. Monday, February 4 Weather morning very pleasant but turned to raining about noon. I went to town this morning to buy goods for the store arrived in town about 10. Bought the most of our goods today want to get back home by tomorrow. Evening went down to see Mr. Baker found him dead he died at 2 this afternoon. Stoped with Mother while in town. Went up to see Bro. Jas. Tuesday, February 5 Weather pleasant. I finished getting what we wanted this morning. I started back home in the 4 ½ train arrived about 6 found all well. Wednesday, February 6 Weather very pleasant all day. I was at the store all day. Our goods came up this morning. Jacob has been working all day with 3 or 4 hands replacing the waist Gate to the back. The mill has not been running all day on that account. I received a letter this evening late from Mr. Ghees that McDonald was dead. He died last night. It came very hard as we did not know of his sickness untill a day or so ago and then we did not know that he was dangerously sick. We can not hardly realize it. Thursday, February 7 Weather quite pleasant. I went to Balto today to the funeral of T. McDonald. I took Charlie with me. McDonald was brought to Mother where the funeral was preached by the Rev. Mr. Barnes. He had a very large funeral. I stayed untill after the sermon and then we came away and took the cars and came home arriving about ½ past 6. We are all well. Friday, February 8 Weather very wet all day. Our race broke again this afternoon and we had to stop work at the mill. The water raised quite high in the river and washed away the footlog(?). We don very well in the store today. Jacob, John and I worked at the Bone and saw mill today trying to get the ice lose so we can get it going. We want to get to sawing as we have quite a lot of logs on hand to saw. Saturday, February 9 Weather wet all day. We repaired the brake in the race this morning and cut the ice away from the saw mill wheel. The balance of the time I was in the store. We don rite well this week in the store considering the bad weather.We all are well. Sunday, February 10 Weather very cold and windy all day. We spent the day about home. I feel lost to not have a church to go to. We are all well. Monday, February 11 Weather not so cold today but more pleasant. Our Burrs for the Bone Mill came up today. They look very well. We got one of them over to the mill. We had an accident at the mill today. The beeter in the Bolting cloth came out and broke a whole through the cloth. I walked to Sykesville to get it fixed. Mary came home today and brought Ginnie Cunningham with her. We are all well. Tuesday, February 12 Weather very pleasant today. The mill has been running all day and we are running tonight. We agreed to take 200 bushels of white corn from Major Hood today at 2.85 per bushel.We got our burrs in the bone mill today. We had quite a job getting them over rolled them over. We are all well. Wednesday, February 13 Weather rainy and damp but no rain of any account. I went to town today to attend to some little business and to get some things for the store. Got through in season and came back home in the 4:30 train P M. Bro. James came up with me. We are all well. Thursday, February 14 Weather damp and cloudy all day. James went home this morning. We started the saw mill today it works very well, the flour mill ran all day. We had a card left for us today to trade corn and [--] the corn is a lot we bought of Col. Hobbs for 85 cents it is very good white corn. We are all well. Friday, February 15 Weather wet all day. We ran the saw in the mill all day. We sent off a car load of flour and corn today 47 BB and 124 bushels of corn to J. Thompson Buns(?). We had more trouble with the race today it broke two or three times we will have to mend it in the morning. We are all well. Bro. James, Charlie came up today. Saturday, February 16 Weather continues very wet and warm. We repaired the race today then went to sawing and grinding. We were quite busy in the store and mill today. We are all well. Sunday, February 17 Weather quite pleasant all day. We took a walk down the R. R. as far as Piney Creek and up it as far as the falls and there we crossed it and came back home. We are all well. I feel lost not to have a church handy to go to. Monday, February 18 Weather quite pleasant. We ran the saw mill all day and the grist mill part of the day. We bought some wheat today at 2.82 ½ and some at 3.00. Wheat keeps about the same as it has been most all winter. We are all well. Tuesday, February 19 Weather pleasant but clouded up in the evening and rained. We raised the privy today John and I. The mills have been going all day. Mr. N. Dorsey halled the last of his wheat today. I worked in the saw mill all day. We are all well. Wednesday, February 20 Weather quite wintry. It commenced snowing last night and snowed all night and most all day. Today there was enough fell to have made it at least 6 or 7 inches deep but it fell on soft ground and it has been raining a little so it is not as deep as it might have been. Bouth mills have been running all day. I have been in the saw mill most all day. We are all well. We got word from our corn today we will lose about 15 Dollars on it. Thursday, February 21 Weather cloudy and snowing most all day it snowed all last night and most all day today. The two mills ran all day. I worked at the saw mill. We lost about 12 Dollars on the 124 bushels of corn we bought from Major Hood. We got a check for it today. We are all well. Friday, February 22 Weather cloudy and cold all day. It looks as much like winter now as it has any time this winter. We are running bouth mills I worked all day at the saw mill. We are all well. Saturday, February 23 Weather continues very wintery. Bouth mills going all day. I worked all day in the saw mill except what little time I was in the store. We are all well. Sunday, February 24 Weather a little cloudy all day. I was about home all day. Jacob went over as far as Mr. Saffold’s and spent most of the day. We are all well. Monday, February 25 Weather cloudy all day but not much rain it hailed a little last night. We repaired the wheel in the saw mill this morning got it fixed up pretty well and got to sawing and grinding after dinner. I worked at the saw mill all day. We are all well. Charlie was not so well yesterday but is better today. He commenced to go to school today to Mrs. Hobbs. Tuesday, February 26 Weather quite pleasant all day. We ran bouth mills today I at the saw mill. We wrote to Castle Maught at Frederick today to send us a car load of wheet. We are near out of it at present. We have almost another load of flour on hand. We are all well. Wednesday, February 27 We worked all day on the brake in the race which broke last night. It will keep us for 2 or 3 days filling it. Mr. Selby is working on the new burrs in the Bone Mill. We want to get them finished so we can go to grinding bone. We are all well. Thursday, February 28 Weather pleasant. We worked all day on the brake in the race and will take us all day to finish it. Selby is still at the new burr. We are all well Friday, March 1 Weather in the morning cloudy and wet but it cleared off in the afternoon and it was quite pleasant but it is very bad under foot. Jacob went to town today. Selby and I worked all day at the bone mill putting in the new burrs. John worked all day cleaning out the saw mill. We made a hole through the wall to throw the dust through. We sent Gary and son 5 barrels Hood’s Mill today. We are all well. Saturday, March 2 Weather cloudy and wet all day. I worked with Mr. Selby all day at the Plaster Mill. John worked about the saw mill cleaning out the saw dust and repareing the race. Jacob came home this evening and Bro. James came out with him. We are all well. Sunday, March 3 Weather quite cold all day. Bro. James is with us all day. We spent the day about home. We are all well. Monday, March 4 Weather quite wintry again. It began hailing last evening and continued all night it then turned to rain and continued off and on all day. We unloded the load of wheet that came down from Frederick last Saturday. We are loading the same car with flour for J. Thomas Benz. We have been very busy all day. Bro. James went home this morning. We are all well. Tuesday, March 5 Weather cloudy and it snowed a while this morning. We sent J. Thomas Benz a load of flour today. we have been quite busy all day at one thing another. We are all well. At odd times we are working at the burrs at the Bone Mill. We want to get to work at the Bones on Plaster parris just as soon as we can. John helped Mr. Selby to move today. He moved in our house just above the saw mill. John Farster takes the house he moves from. Wednesday, March 6 Weather quite wintery all day it commenced snowing this morning and continued all day. It is now about 5 or 6 inches deep. I worked in the saw mill all day. Mr. Selby worked at the new burrs at odd times all day. The flour mill ran all day. We are all well. Thursday, March 7 Weather cloudy and wet all day. We ran bouth mills today saw and flour. We are still working at the new burrs at odd times. We want to get to grinding bone just as soon as posible. We sent away 1 BB of flour to Mr. Gary today. We are all well. Friday, March 8 Weather quite pleasant all day but it is quite bad walking and the roads are very bad. John Farster moved in our house today the one down the R. R. the one our miller has been living in. We started the bone mill today. I worked it all the afternoon it worked very well. Excepsion the convayors they were too small I think to work well. We are all well. Saturday, March 9 Weather pleasant all day. We finished setting our burr in the bone mill and commenced to grind untill evening on it. We are very much pleased with it so far. The flour mill ran all day. We are all well. Sunday, March 10 Weather cloudy and wet all day. We were at home most all day. Except Jacob and I called to see Mr. Thomas. We are all well. Monday, March 11 Weather pleasant today. I went to Balto. today to attend to buying some bones and tools and Shaft of the bone mill to get shortened. Arrived in good time and was kept busy all day. Started at Mother’s they are all well there. I paid Lizzie McDonald three hundred dollars on a note she holds against me. We are all well. Tuesday, March 12 Weather wet all day. busy getting the bones halled up to the Depot and attending to other matters. Could not get through today as I expected I wanted to get out home today but cannot. Staying at Mother’s. We are all well. Wednesday, March 13 Weather continues wet. I got the bones all halled up today to be sent to our mill. Got ready and started for home in the afternoon train. Arrived at home all right and found my family all well and glad to see me. Thursday, March 14 Weather quite cool all day. We are grinding and beeting bones now as also the flour mill is going. We are all tolerable well. Friday, March 15 Weather quite pleasant all day but a little cool. We went to fixing our crusher today we want to get to grinding Plasterparris. Perry is beeting bone. A load of wheet came today we bought it at 2.80 but it is very poor wheet. We are all well. Saturday, March 16 Weather quite wintery all day. It was snowing this morning when I got up and it continued all day. It is now about 6 in deep and still snowing.We started the Plaster paris mill this morning and ran it all day it works first rate. We think we ground about 7 or 8 tons. We don pretty well in the store today. We are all pretty well. I dont feal all together well I have some cold. Sunday, March 17 Weather quite wintery. Looks about as much like winter as it has all winter. I stayed in the house all day. Mr. And Mrs. Hobbs called to see us in the afternoon. We are all pretty well. Monday, March 18 Weather quite cold but it was pleasant otherwise. The ground is still covered with snow but it is not expected to last long as it is getting too late now for snow. Both mills were running today we wrote to Mr. Castle Maught in Frederick to send up another load of wheet this week. We want to send another load of flour away this week. We are all pretty well excepting slight colds. Tuesday, March 19 Weather quite pleasant today and the snow is disappearing quite fast. We sent Morgan Hopkins & Co. a load of flour, corn and Potatoes. The bone mill is still going. We want to get to sawing just as soon as posible. We are all well. Wednesday, March 20 Weather pleasant but got cold and cloudy in the evening. The bone mill and saw mill ran all day. We are out of wheet at present but expect some from Frederick soon. We are all well. Mr. G. R. Dorsey came up from Balto. stoped and took dinner with us and also Mr.Hunter. I stayed in the store all day by myself. Johnnie went to Balto. Thursday, March 21 Weather very disagreeable all day rain and sleet. The bone and saw mill ran all day. The weather is too bad to do much in the store too wet for anyone to get out.. We are all well. Friday, March 22 Weather very disagreeable it snowed all day the snow is now about 8 in deep and would be deeper but the ground was soft and it melted. The bone and saw mill ran all day. We had some things come up for the store today. Jacob has been unwell with a bad cold. My family are all pretty well. Saturday, March 23 Weather cloudy and wet the fore part of the day the snow is disappearing very fast. It is thought it would have been at least 1 ½ feet deep if it had been a little colder and the ground had been froze.Jacob is still quite unwell has been in the house all day. I have been in the store all day. We have been kept quite busy today. My family are all pretty well. Sunday, March 24 Weather very disagreeable raining most of the time. Isaac wrote to Sister Eliza this week. Jacob is still quite sick. The rest are all well excepting little Maggie I do not think she is very well. All spent the day at home. Monday, March 25 Weather is a little more pleasant altho it rained this morning it cleared off this afternoon the walking is very bad. Jacob is up today but still very unwell. Isaac has been cleaning out the ware house. The bone mill has been running all day also the saw mill. Tuesday, March 26 Weather pleasant. I worked all day making some changes about the ware room. Selby ran the saw all day. John and Perry piled bones and stone all day. Andrew came out to see us today he is going back tomorrow. Jacob is something better today. We are all well. Wednesday, March 27 Weather pleasant. We are still out of wheet and are very much in want of it as we are almost out of bouth flour and feed. Mr. Selby is still sawing. I worked all day in the store making improvements. Jacob is getting better but is still unwell. Andrew went home today. Charlie and the children are all well. Thursday, March 28 Weather cool and a little windy, We sold 1200 bone dust today the first we have sold for $50 per ton. I worked all day on the repairs about the store. The bone and saw mill ran all day. Jacob is still unwell the balance of us are pretty well. Friday, March 29 Weather cool but pleasant. We are not doing very much now on account of the scarcity of wheet. We are still grinding bone and sawing. We sent Mr. Zimmerman and Shultz ½ ton bone dust today. Jacob went to Ellicott Mills today on Business. We are all about the same. Saturday, March 30 Weather quite pleasant today. Things are going along about as usual. We don pretty well in the store today. We are all well. Sunday, March 31 Weather very pleasant about the best day we have had for a long time. Jacob went over in Howard Co. I stayed about home. We are all well. Monday, April 1 Weather a little cloudy and rained some. I went to Balto. this morning and took my Family with me to spend a few days. We arrived all well and in good season form. Our friends all well and glad to see us. Bought some things for the store and had them sent by this afternoon cars. Tuesday, April 2 Weather pleasant I was busy all day attending to a piece of ground adjoining our Mill property and the sail of a Lot I have on McCoullough St. I think I will let Mr. Wilson have it as I will not be able to build on it at present. We are all well. Wednesday, April 3 Weather continues very pleasant. I passed papers with Wm. Turner for 44 acres adjoining our mill property today. I got it for 900 dollars. I paid him by giveing my note and an 800 dollar mortgage that I hold against the house I built on McCollough St. last fall. I also let Mr. Z. O. Wilson have my lot by giving me 100 dollars. Friday, April 5 Weather continues pleasant. I got through with all I had to do in Balto. and started home on the 4 ½ o’clock train arrived all safe and well. Found the mill running and plenty of wheet on hand. Saturday, April 6 Weather very pleasant. I went to town today to raise some money for Mr. N. Dorsey for wheet. We are very busy now at the mill and doing rite well at the store. We are all well except Maggie she appears quite lame and we cannot tell what is the matter with her. We are afraid it is her hip but we are in hopes not. Sunday, April 7 Weather quite pleasant. In the morning Jacob and I went to Springfield Church the Rev. Mr. Squires but we had a very small congregation. The balance of the day we stayed about home. We are all about the same. Monday, April 8 Weather very peasant. I felt quite unwell all day. I think it was caused by working in the bone mill today weighing bone. We are getting busy now selling bone and plaster.We are all tolerable well. Maggie is quite lame and we are afraid she is going to have the hip disease. But we are in hopes not. Tuesday, April 9 Weather continues about the same. We are quite busy now with bouth mills. Flour is getting a little better now. Jacob and I manage to keep ourselves busy all the time at something.We are all about the same. Maggie is still quite lame and we cannot tell what the matter with her. We are afraid it is the hip. Wednesday, April 10 Weather pleasant but a little cloudy and commenced to rain in the evening. bouth mills running we commenced on plaster this afternoon. We are all about as usual. Maggie appears about the same. Charlie and Ella are going to school this week for the first time for Ella. Thursday, April 11 Weather quite pleasant. The flour mill is still running and also the bone and plaster mill. We sould some bone and plaster today. We sell the plaster at 12$ per ton and bone at 50$. We are all about the same. Friday, April 12 Weather a little cool we had some frost last night. Jacob and I went over on the Pike to a sail today. Bought some things a Carage, corn sheller and I bought two Feather beds. The feathers I bought for myself the rest of the things Jacob and I bought for us bouth. Saturday, April 13 Weather quite pleasant. Bouth mills are still going. We sould some bone dust today. Jacob went over and brought over the carage today. We don pretty well in the store today. Bro. James and Wm. Cunningham came up today to see us.We are all well except Maggie she is still very lame and we cannot tell what is the matter with her. Sunday, April 14 Weather quite pleasant. Bro. James and Wm. Cunningham came out last night and are spending the day with us. We stayed about home all day. We are all about the same. Monday, April 15 Weather warm and pleasant. We was quite busy all day bouth mills going. James and William went home this morning. I got ready this evening to go to town tomorrow. Mr. Selby bought himself a cow today. We are all about the same. Tuesday, April 16 Weather cloudy and wet all day. I walked down to Sykesville to get the Express to go to town. But wet walking down I arrived in town about 8 o’clock got through and got back in. The evening I went to see Mother and Bro. James. We are all about the same. Wednesday, April 17 Weather more pleasant today. We are still running bouth mills. Jacob and I stayed up last night and ran the bone mill all night. Jacob is quite unwell today. We sould some plaster today and bought some corn we paid 95 for it. Charlie and Maggie is not very well. Thursday, April 18 Weather pleasant all day. We are still running bouth mills. Some wheat came in today. We gave 2.90 for it. Wheat is very high right now selling in town from 3 to 3.50 per bushel. We are kept busy now attending to one thing or another. Maggie is still very lame and we do not know what is the matter with her. Jacob is something better today. Friday, April 19 Weather pleasant. We had quite a little frost last night and a little ice. Jacob and I stayed up all night at the mill all night grinding bone. I did not have very much to do today. But the mill ran all day. We are all about the same. Saturday, April 20 Weather pleasant. Things are running along about as usual. John went to town today to spend the holiday. We are all about as usual. Sunday, April 21 Weather quire peasant. About home all the morning. Afternoon we took a ride and took the children with us. Jacob went to church in the morning. We are all about as usual. Monday, April 22 Weather windy but clear and warm. We worked all day but two of our men were away spending the holiday. John got home this evening. I worked at the Plaster mill most all day. Hollie is not very well today has a bad cold. We are all complaining some with bad colds. We have been quite busy all day bouth in the mill and in the store. Tuesday, April 23 Weather pleasant excepting windy. We had an axident hapend this morning in the bone mill. John was tending the crusher and by some cause he broke the Shaft fork and the top of the Balance wire but we got it all fixed again today. I went to Sykesville to get part of it don. We are all about the same. John Dorsey went after the Market wagon today. We are going to start a Market Wagon next Thursday. Wednesday, April 24 Weather quite pleasant all day. It commenced to snow and rain and lasted most all day but not cold enough to do any harm I think. We were all busy all day. Johnnie got his Market Wagon ready to start to town tomorrow. We are all about the same. Thursday, April 25 Weather pleasant today. John Dorsey started with the Market Wagon and got out as far as Ridgles about half way between Hood’s Mill and the Pike and the old mare Jacob’s horse sliped a joint in her leg and had to be brought back home so the wagon could not go to town today. Johnnie went to town in the cars. We was quite busy all day. We are all well. Friday, April 26 Weather quite pleasant but it was a little cool last night and had some frost. Jacob and I stayed up at the mill all night. The Shaft of the Crusher broke again today and we had to take it to Sykesville again today to get it repaired. Johnnie got back from Balto. this evening and brought some things for the store. We are all about the same. Saturday, April 27 Weather pleasant. Our Shaft to the crusher broke again today and we thought it best to take it to Balto. to get it fixed. I went in with it on the Mail Train this afternoon. Arrived in time to take it to the Foundry. Stayed at Mother’s all night found them all well. Sunday, April 28 Weather very pleasant. I went to Dr. Fuller’s morning and evening. Hered two Excellent sermons and sat in the [--] in the morning. I took dinner with Bro. James. His family are all well. Monday, April 29 Weather quite wet all day. I called on Mr Benz and Morgan Hopkins & Co. The shaft got finished at noon and I got it and started for home in the 4 ½ o’clock train. Found my Family all well. Tuesday, April 30 Weather wet all day. I went to Balto. today to buy Mr. Peddicord a Bill of Lumber and engaged it from Mr. C. H. Carson. I also attended to some other business in town. I started home on the 4 ½ train. I went down on the Express train this morning. There was a run off just below Elysville of one of the coal trains and delayed us about an hour and a half. No one hurt but broke up several cars. Wednesday, May 1 Weather wet all day. Jacob went up to West Minster today to get our Lisence. I worked all day or most in the bone mill. We are quite busy now with bone plaster and sawing. We are also running the flour mill. We are all about the same Thursday, May 2. Weather more pleasant today but cloudy in the evening. We were busy all day today in the Plaster mill and selling Furtalisers. I stayed up all night long in the Bone Mill. We had one or two Loggs to saw for our neighbours and we had to saw of evenings and we finished about 9 o’clock. We are all well. Friday, May 3 Weather pleasant part of the day but in the morning it snowed and rained. We are quite busy now with Bone and Plaster. Jacob went down to Mr. Amos today to see him about buying a horse but he did not get one. We are all well. Saturday, May 4 Weather pleasant. We are still busy with bone and plaster. Thursday, May 9 Weather pleasant today but a little windy. John Dorsey started to Balto. today with the market Wagon. Jacob bought another horse from Major Hood. We went to Church today over the Pike to hear a Lutheran Preacher Preach. We are all well. We received word of the death of Andrew Cunningham today. He died last Friday night of the Spotted Fever.. Afternoon cloudy but no rain. Bro. and I went over to Freedom to organize a Military Company. We met but did not do much on account of not many members being Present to Elect Officers. A 100 Bushels corn was sent over from Montgomery Co. today to go South for the Relief of the Destitute. We put in a car to go Monday and also a barrel flour for our donation. I sold 230 feet of it to Azel Mercer. Afternoon I went to our meeting. Our Capt. was there but Drunk again so we thought it best to disband and reorganize and we did so and got 33 names on the list. Friday, July 26 Weather continues very warm. I am still in Balto. One of the vessels arrived today but will not be ready to unload before next Monday the other vessel has not arrived yet. The Mill is going but we are running only one burr on account of scarcity of wheet. We are all well. Saturday, August 10 Weather cloudy part of the day. The Mills are still going. We don pretty well in the store today. We are all well. Sunday, August 11 Weather warm at home all the morning. Afternoon Mr. Selby, Jacob and I rode over to Mr. Henderson’s at Patterson’s Mills. We are all well. Monday, August 12 Weather continues warm. We commenced the little Church to repair it today Watson Chapple. Bouth Mills are running now as well as the Beaters in the day time and Bone bur at night. We bought a sow and pigs today from E. Hatfield sow and 5 pigs for 12$. We are all well. Tuesday, August 13 Weather continues warm. I helped at the church part of the day. We are pretty busy now. We are all well. Wednesday, August 14 Weather warm. Things are moveing along about as usual. The men have got back on the Mill wheel. Jonnie got ready to go to market tomorrow morning. We are all about the same. Thursday, August 15 Weather quite wet all day commenced sometime last night. Jonnie started earley this morning. We had an order for 500 barrels of our R. R. Brand of Flour today to be delivered tomorrow week. We are afraid we cannot fill it but we are going to do the best we can. We are all well. Bro. Went to Frederick this evening to try to buy wheet there if it can be bought right. Friday, August 16 Weather very wet all day. We are very busy on our order for Flour and doing the very best to have it ready. We are all well except Maggie she is not so well today. Saturday, August 17 Weather still wet but not so wet as it has been. We are getting along very well with the Mill on our order. We ran it night and day. We are all about the same. Sister Eliza and Family are with us. Sunday, August 18 Weather warm all day. About home all day. family all about the same. Monday, August 19 Weather pleasant. We find it somewhat dificult to get Wheat as fast as we can grind it but so far we have been kept going very well. We are all about the same. Tuesday, August 20 Weather peasant but a little close and cloudy part of the day. I went to town today to go to West Minster to pay my income taxes it is $52.75. Found on arriving that I could not get off untill tomorrow. I stoped with Bro. James for this evening. and night. Found them all well and glad to see me. Wednesday, August 21 Weather cloudy and warm. I started to West Minster this morning in the 8:30 train arrived there about 11 o’clock got through with my business and started back to Balto. arriving at 7 the evening. Stoped with mother all night. Thursday, August 22 Weather cloudy and wet part of the day. after buying a few things I went home arrived there about ½ past 10. Found all well and glad to see me. Found Bro. Busy in the Mill and getting along well. Family all well. Friday, August 23 Weather warm. We are very busy with our order and the water wheel. We did not go to market today. We are all about the same. Maggie is no better. Saturday, August 24 Weather warm but pleasant. Things are moveing very well but we are not able to fill that order for that 500 barrels of flour. We sent off a load yesterday and today a load of wheet came Duffield’s today. Sam went over to West Friendship’s Minister today to see about the school. We are all about the same. Sunday, August 25 Weather pleasant. I stayed about home all day. Jacob, Sam, Mary, Eliza went down to A. Amos and spent the day. We are all well. Monday, August 26 Weather pleasant but a little warm in the middle of the day. Evenings and nights cool. We are still running the Mill night and day. I worked part of the day at the Chapple painting. We are all well. Tuesday, August 27 Weather warm nights cool. Things are moveing along about as usual. Another lode of wheat came down from Duffield’s Station today it cost us about $2.28 per bushel. I stayed up part of last night with Bro. We took the old shaft out the bone mill today. I worked part of the day at the Church. We are all well. Wednesday, August 28 Weather warm and close all the morning. Evening we had quite a heavy rain and our yard came near being flooded again. Our Market wagon is not ready yet so we cannot go to Market tomorrow. We are all well. We are still busy at the Mill. We have been very busy all day shipping and receiveing goods. Sam Spalding went back home this afternoon. Eliza is going to stay a while with us. Thursday, August 29 Weather close and warm. We are still quite busy bouth at store and Mill. The Millrights are still working at the Mill Wheel. Family all well. Isaac did not write about it but on August 29, 1867, he was appointed Postmaster at Hood’s Mill, Maryland. An extant certificate, signed by Alexander W. Randall, Postmaster General of the United States confirms his appointment. Friday, August 30 Weather peasant. We were quite busy today but not so busy yesterday. We are all about the same. Saturday, August 31 Weather cool and pleasant all day. last night was quite cool. We are out of wheat. I dont feal very well today. Sunday, September 1 Weather pleasant. We all went to Campmeeting except Sallie and the small children. A great many were there and things pased very pleasantly. I walked over with John and Mr. Selby came back with Jas. Black and 2 Mr. Hales and took tea with them. Got back late in the evening. We are all well. Monday, September 2 Weather cloudy and damp all day rather bad for Campmeeting folks. Things are moveing along about as usual. The men are still working on the Mill wheel. The mill is running on midlings. We are out of wheat. Family all well. Tuesday, September 3 Weather pleasant. We are still out of wheat but the mill is running on the midlings. Jonnie and George went to Camp. We are all well. I received a letter from W. L. Williams today and statement of [--] with a Draft of 1050 dollars. 250$ for J. L. Bowen. part of it was from Judge Bliss. He gave us 500$ for nearly 6000$ that was the best we could do with him. We had to take that or none. Wednesday, September 4 Weather pleasant. Jacob went to Balto. today to try to borrow some money to help to pay a Bill thats due Saturday. We have been very much worried about it and while worring about it I received a letter from California with a draft in it for 1050$ a God Send it came when we most needed it. We all feal very thankfull for it. It is for rents and bill that was due me before I left there. Part of is what Judge Bliss gave to settle his notes of 6000$. Thursday, September 5 Weather cloudy part of the day but gusts, warm part of the morning. Things are moveing along as usual. Wheat comes in slow. We are all well. Friday, September 6 Weather warm a little cloudy. I went to Balto. today to sell a Gold Check I got from Marysville. Most of it was due me there before I left. I sold it for 142 3/8. I was busy all day about town attending to some business. Saturday, September 7 Weather pleasant. I was very busy all day to get things and get back home. I paid some debts and made some new ones. I arrived home safe and made L. W. Reed another payment on the store of 1500 dollars. That makes 3000 paid him now leaveing about 500 due excepting his Bill he owes in the store. We are all well. Sunday, September 8 Weather pleasant, about home all day. We will soon have our little Chapple finished and then we will have Church and Sabbath School to go to on Sunday. We are all well. Monday, September 9 Weather cloudy and wet part of the day. Jacob went to town today. The men are still working at the Wheel at the Bone Mill. I was helping them part of the day. We are trying to get it finished so we can get the Mill running by tomorrow. We want to get the Bone beat and Plaster ground just as soon as posible. We are all well. Wednesday, September 11 Weather pleasant. I worked all day with the men at the mill wheel. We got it finished and started it about 3 o’clock. It is considered a very well finished wheel. We are all well. Thursday, September 12 Weather pleasant. The Beaters and burr in Bone Mill ran all day the burr ran all night I attended to it. Jonnie went to market today. I was quite busy all day in the store. We are all well. Friday, September 13 Weather warm. I was very busy in the store all day. The Bone Mill is running night and day now. Wheat comes in very slow not enough to keep us going. We are all well. Saturday, September 14 Weather warm. We was very busy all day unloading cars of furtalisers. We ground Plaster this morning. Wm. Cunningham came up this evening to see us. We are all well. Sunday, September 15 Weather warm. About home all day Wm. Cunningham is with us today. Afternoon we had preaching in our little Chapple for the first time since it was finished. We are all well. Monday, September 16 Weather warm. Bro. Jacob went up the R. R. this morning to try and get wheat we are nearly out. Farmers cannot keep us agoing about here. Afternoon I went to Balto. and took my Family with me. They want to stay [--] a visit. I was very busy all day buying for the store and for the Plaster Mill I bought a car load of Plaster but had to pay 6$ on cars. Came back home in the evening left my Family at Mother’s. Wednesday, September 18 Weather quite warm. We are very busy now with the Mills and store there is now the full trade for Furtalisers. We are not getting wheat as fast as we would like. I wrote to Sullie this evening and sent it by Jonnie. He goes to Market in the morning. We are all well. Thursday, September 19 Weather still continues warm. I was busy all day about the store. We fixed another pen for more Hoggs today. I got another sow and some pigs from I. Thomas for $23 sow and 8 hogs. We are all well. I feel lonesome without my Family they are still in Baltimore. Friday, September 20 Weather warm. We have been quite busy all day. 2 car loads of Plaster came up [- -] them to unload. Another car load of wheat came today it cost us about 2.28 Delivered at the Mill very good wheat better than the last load. Jonnie got back late this evening left my Family all well. Saturday, September 21 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto. this afternoon to see my Family and get Furtulisers and engaged a car load of Turner’s and a car load of Woodston. I found my Family all well and glad to see me. Sunday, September 22 Weather very pleasant in Balto. Morning I went to Dr. Fuller’s and also in the evening. They are about making arrangements to build a new Church and took the first step today. Afternoon I spent with Bro. Jas. Monday, September 23 Weather pleasant. At this page in the diary, a small newspaper obituary was inserted between the pages. It was the obituary of Mary A. Taylor, sister of Isaaç’s grandfather Jacob Taylor. Tuesday, October 1 Weather warm but it was quite cool last night we had a heavy frost last night. We was very busy all day with fertilisers all day. We are running two burrs in the Mills. Wednesday, October 2 Weather warm and pleasant in the day time but cool at night with frost. We are still busy with the Fertilisers. Wheat comes in slow and barrels are hard to get. We are paying from 60 to 75 a piece for them and hard to get at that. We are halling wheat we pay 60 for. We are all well. I feal very anxious to see my Family they are all still in Balto. Thursday, October 3 Weather pleasant. Not quite so busy today. Jonnie went to Balto. returned in the evening. We ran out of barrels today I find it very hard to get them. I am going to Frederick in the morning and try and get some. We are all well. I wrote to Bro. William today. Friday, October 4 Weather cloudy and wet all day. I went to Frederick to try to see about some barrels for wheat but could not buy any barrels they all being engaged but they think they can let us have some next week at about 80 cents a piece. Wheat is also very high also worth there 2.50$ per bushel. Stoped all night with Mr. Castle. His Family are very pleasant people. Saturday, October 5 Weather still continues wet. I started for home on the Frederick train arrived safe. We had to stop the Mill on account of no barrels. We are trying to get them. I am going to Balto. this eve to see my family they are still there but I expect they will come home with me. I expect them to do so. Sunday, October 6 Weather pleasant. In the morning I went to Dr. Fuller’s evening I stayed at home. Afternoon I spent at Bro. James. While there sister Eliza came up she is in town on a visit. We are all well. We are all well. Thursday, October 10 Weather pleasant. I worked all day on the new School House. Jacob ran the saw mill no wheat or barrels yet but have the promise of bouth tomorrow. I have been putting on the second coat of plastering on the School House all day. I find I get along with it better than I expected as it is the first job I ever under took before. I finished painting the School House then we started a stable for our Horses next to the bank this side of the store next to the yard. We are all well. Hollie is something better. Friday, November 8 Weather pleasant. We worked all day at the stable. We still manage to keep the Mill going but wheat comes in slow. We find it difacult to buy wheat as fast as we can grind it. We are all well. Hollie is a little better we think. Saturday, November 9 Weather cloudy most of the day and it commenced raining in the evening and rained quite hard for a Hour or so. We had a good deal of wheat come in today from Howard Co. D. T. Gaither brought a load or two. We worked all day at stable. We are all well. Sunday, November 10 Weather cloudy and wet most of the day. We had Sabbath School but very few out. We are all well. We had no preaching this afternoon on account of the weather. Monday, November 11 Weather rather blustery all day and in the evening we had quite a thunder storm. Jacob and I worked all day on the stable. We sent away a load of feed today. Sam held school in the new school house today for the first time held it in the afternoon. We are all well. Hollie is not well yet. He has something like the Hoopingcough. We are still at work on the stable. Mr. Petticord started the Bridge over the River at the Washington Road. It washed away about 18 months ago it is very much needed. We are out of wheat again. Jacob and I worked all day on the stable. The Mills are all idle on account of no wheat and no logs. I am going to Balto. tomorrow to try to get wheat. I went to Balto. today to buy wheat and to attend to some other matters. I bought some wheat about 500 bushels at 2.30 cost about 10 cents more to deliver at our Mill. I left all well at home. Mother and family well. Wednesday, November 20 Weather cool but pleasant. I have been very busy all day buying more wheat and raising money to pay for it. Money is very tite now. We bought enough more wheat to make up the 2 car loads 100 bushels. I got through and started home on the Frederick train arrived safe and found all well. Thursday, November 21 Weather pleasant but cool freezing most all day. I went up to Frederick today to raise some money to pay for wheat I bought yesterday in Balto. I got back about 3 in the afternoon. We are all well. Friday, November 22 Weather cloudy and damp all day. Jacob and Jonnie went to Balto. today. I stayed in the store all day. Thursday, December 5 Weather quite winterist today it commenced to snow in the night and the ground was quite white this morning. I went to Balto. this morning and took Maggie with me to see the Dr. I took her in the afternoon to see him. I dont think she is getting any better at least she dont show it in her walk. Friday, December 6 Weather pleasant in the morning but has the appearance of rain and did commence in the afternoon. I got through buying in the morning and started home in the afternoon arrived all safe and found my Family all well. Saturday, December 7 Weather quite pleasant. Jacob has been out all week trying to raise money to make our next payment which is on the first of January. We find money very hard to raise. I was in the store all day. We had another load of wheat come today but there is nothing made on flour at the present prices. We are all well or about as usual. Sunday, December 8 Weather quite cool all day. We had Sabbath School in the School House today. Mr. Hobbs preached in the Church in the afternoon. We are all well. Monday, December 9 Weather continues quite cold. Jacob went to Balto. today again to see about raising money to pay the next payment on the Hood’s Mill property. I was in the store all day. Family all pretty well. Tuesday, December 10 Weather pleasant but cool. Jacob has not returned from Balto. yet. I received a letter from him this eve requesting me to come to Balto. tomorrow to assist him in raising some money for our present use. We had another car load of wheat come in today from Kernysville by R. R. it stands us about 2.56 per bushel. We are all well. Wednesday, December 11 Weather cloudy and wet part of the day. I went to Balto. to see about raising money but did not accomplish much. I find it very hard to raise money at present. Got back home in the evening. Thursday, December 12 Weather very severe. It has been snowing all day and is still at it and has the appearance of quite a deep snow. Jonnie went to Balto. this morning I was in the store. We are all about the same. Friday, December 13 Weather very unpleasant and raining and snowing all day. Jonnie went to town and I stayed in the store all day. The Mill is still running on half time that is it runs from earley untill late at night. Wheat is still high and flour is now in proportion on % of wheat shipped out of the country instead of flour. We are all well. Maggie appears to be about the same. Saturday, December 14 Weather very wintery and the snow is quite deep and still snowing. Our business has been pretty good for the last few days. We find it pretty hard to keep the Mill going on account of the ice and freezing have to stop about sundown. We are all about the same. Sunday, December 15 Weather very winterish snowing all day and already quite deep. We had no school today. I stayed about home most all day. I called to see Eliza in the morning. Afternoon I started to read Prince of the House of David. We are all about the same. Monday, December 16 Weather about the same and continues quite cold. I was in the store all day. Don rite well in the store today. We are all well as usual. Tuesday, December 17 Weather not quite so cool today. In the store today business is better than it has been for some time now. Wednesday, December 18 Weather quite pleasant all day. I was in the store all day. Business was very dull today. John went to town today. We are all well. Thursday, December 19 Weather clear but cold. Business is just tolerable good. We only run the mill through the day and one burr only. There is so much ice we cant get enough water to run 2 burrs. Friday, December 20 Weather pleasant after about 5 this morning it snowed up untill that time. Business is still slack. Mill runs through the day only. We sent off 80 barrels of flour today. We are still sending to Morgan Hopkins & Co. We are all about the same. Saturday, December 21 Weather pleasant. Business is very good today in the store and [--]. We are all well. Sunday, December 22 Weather quite unpleasant all day. We did not get out all day. I stayed in my room most all day reading. We are all about as usual. One of our neighbours Mrs. Davis died very suden last night only 15 minutes from the time she was taken untill she died. I went up to see her. Monday, December 23 Weather pleasant over head but the ground is still covered with snow and ice. Business is a little better in the store on account of the holidays. We are all well. Tuesday, December 24 Weather cool but clear. We was quite busy in the store all day today. Sold a good many tickets today more than any other day since we have been here. Ella is not well today Wednesday, December 25 Weather quite pleasant. I was very busy all day in the store. It was quite lively about here all day. We are all well. Thursday, December 26 Weather pleasant. We were not quite so busy today. We are all well. We got a letter from Bro. James stateing that his little daughter dyed on Christmas day and the funeral will take place tommorrow. Friday, December 27 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto. to attend the funeral of Bro. James’ little child. Returned in the evening. Saturday, December 28 Weather very pleasant. We are still busy at the Mill. Jacob ran the saw mill this afternoon. We have a good deal of sawing to do now on hand. We are all about the same. Sunday, December 29 Weather cool but clear. We had Sabbath School today in the School House. We are all as well as usual. Monday, December 30 Weather cool but pleasant. John and I worked at the fence all day around the hog pen. We commenced to take account of stock today in the store. Jacob ran the saw Mill all day and Mr. Selby the other Mill. Family all well Tuesday, December 31 Weather clear and cool in the forenoon but clouded up and commenced to snow about 1 o’clock in the afternoon and continued untill late at night. We had two loads of wheat come today. Today is the Last day of the Old Year and I am happy to say it finds us well with the excepttion of little Maggie and with her we are afraid that she cause us to have a great deal of care and anxiety. But we try to hope for the better.
