I was in the store all day. I was quite busy. Family all well. Thursday, January 2 Weather clear & cold. Jacob and I went to Balto. today to attend to the 2nd payment of our Hood’s Mill property. We did not get through today. Came back home in evening. Friday, January 3 Weather pleasant. I was in the store all day. We are quite Busy in the Mill now. Have plenty of wheat on hand but the proffits is very small on flour this season Saturday, January 4 Weather quite pleasant. We all went over to see S Hewett this afternoon. We have to borrow 5000$ to pay the second payment with & doing so we have to give a Mortgage on the property get it for 5 years. Sunday, January 5 Weather pleasant. We had Sabbath School in the morning & Church in the afternoon. We have quite a good school but small. We are all well. Monday, January 6 Weather cloudy & damp all day. We all had to go to S Hewett again today to finish signing the Mortgages. I will be very glad when we get out of debt. We are all well. Tuesday, January 7 Weather cloudy & wet all day. Jacon & I went to Balto. today settle up for the second payment on our property. We had to borrow the money to do it with as Bro. has not sold his farm yet. Wednesday, January 8 Weather cold & cloudy & commenced to snow in the Evening. We commenced to clean up the store today and whitewash it. We are all well. Thursday, January 9 Weather quite cold & windy. I was alone all day in the store. John was away. We are doing tolerable well in the store. We are getting in a good deal of wheat now. Friday, January 10 Weather continues cold but clear. I am still alone in the store and quite busy sold some Lumber. We keep it on hand for sail and make a fare proffit on it. Saturday, January 11 Weather cold & clear. We are still cleaning up the store when we have spair time. We are still getting in more wheat. I have about 2000 bu. On hand. Cost about 2.60 or there about. Sunday, January 12 Weather very cold all day but clear. We had no school today as Mr. Norris had an appointment to preach for us at 11 O’clock. He is stoping with Bro. for a day or so also cousin Suse. Monday, January 13 Weather continues quite cold. We are still cleaning up the store at our spair time. It was very dusty. We are all well. Tuesday, January 14 Weather cold & snowing most all day. The Rev. Mr. Norris went home this afternoon & also Cousin Suse. It was so cold we could not run the mill today. Wednesday, January 15 Weather pleasant today. Business was very good in the store today. Mill was running today. We have plenty of wheat offered us now at a fare price. Thursday, January 16 Weather cold. I was alone in the store today. Mill is still going. We are getting along about as well as one could Expect with our new property. Friday, January 17 Weather very cold all day. I was alone all day. Jonnie got back in the evening. Business just tolerable today. Had to shut down before dark at the Mill owing to it being so cold. Saturday, January 18 Weather continues cold. First rate times for the ice men to get ice. We find it hard to keep our mill going on account of the ice. I was quite busy in the store today. Sunday, January 19 Weather quite cold all day. We had Sabbath School in the morning & Church in the afternoon. Jacob & I called to see Mr. Azel Mercer he is unwell. Monday, January 20 Weather quite wintery all day snowing most of the time. Business was just tolerable. We still have plenty of wheat in the Mill. We are all well. Tuesday, January 21 Weather quite wintery all snowing all the morning & raining in the afternoon. We still have a plenty of wheat on hand. We are all well. Wednesday, January 22 Weather quite pleasant over head today. I sold my cow last Monday to Jas. Murry for 55$. We are still busy in the Mill running night and day when it is not too cold. Thursday, January 23 Weather very unpleasant. All day wet and muddy. I was in the store alone all day. Jonnie went to a sale. We are still busy in the Mill. Family all well. Friday, January 24 Weather quite pleasant today. We had another load of wheat come today from Duffield’s. We sent off a load of flour yesterday. Saturday, January 25 Weather cool but pleasant. Jacob & I commenced to Slat the School House. It got cold towards evening & had to shut down the Mill. We are all well. Sunday, January 26 Weather continues cold. We had Sabbath School in the School House in the morning. About home the rest of the day. All well. Monday, January 27 Weather very unpleasant all day. Jacob went to Balto. and I went to a sale at Mr. Rosans. I bought a cow paid 30.50 for her. Family all well. Tuesday, January 28 Weather quite wintery all day snowing most all day & is still cloudy. We had a good deal of wheat come in today from around the country. It averaged us 2.50 per Bushel and one car load from Kernysville. All well. Wednesday, January 29 Weather very cold and wintery all day. Jacob & I went up to the sale at Rosans but did not buy anything. I Bought a cow from him last Monday for 30.50. Thursday, January 30 Weather continues bad snowing most all day. We are getting in more wheat. Prices keep about the same. We are all well. Friday, January 31 Weather cold and the sleighing is very good. We sent off a Load of flour today. We are still sending to Morgan & Dorsey. We are all well. Saturday, February 1 Weather continues very cold but clear. Jacob & Sam went up to see the school commissioners today. We had another load of wheat by Rail today. We are all well. Sunday, February 2 Weather continues very cold. We had Sabbath School at the usual hour in the school house & church in the afternoon. All well. Monday, February 3 Weather cold but clear. We had a load of barrels come today from Frederick cased delivered 68 cts. We have plenty of wheat on hand yet. We are all well. Tuesday, February 4 Weather a little cloudy but no rain. I went to Balto. today to get some things for the store. Stayed in all night. Wednesday, February 5 Weather quite windy snowed all day. I got through with what I had to do and went home in the evening train. All well. Thursday, February 6 Weather clear and cold. The weather is still to cold to run the mill at night. We still have plenty of wheat on hand we are not making in the mill. Friday, February 7 Weather still continues cold but dry ground is still covered with snow. Business is quiet. Mill runs all day but stops at night. Wheat is too high for the flour. All well. Saturday, February 8 Weather continues quite cold. Did not start the mill today on that account. We was rite busy in the store today. We are all well except Charlie little unwell. Sunday, February 9 Weather very disagreeable all day. It snowed most all night last night & raining most all day today. We had no S. School today. Monday, February 10 Weather clear and cold. We had a hard work to get the Mill off then only run one burr. It has been a very hard winter on milling. All well. Tuesday, February 11 Weather pleasant over head but it is still cold. The weather is still too cold to run of nights. We sent a load of flour to J. T. Berry today. We are all well. Wednesday, February 12 Weather continues cold. Jacob killed his hogs today. The mill was going all day. Business just tolerable in the store. Family all well. Thursday, February 13 Weather cold still too cold to run at nights. Jacob killed his hogs today. We are all well. Friday, February 14 Weather quite pleasant today. The best day we have had for some time. Business was very good in the store today. Family all well. Saturday, February 15 Weather quite pleasant today. We were quite busy all day in the store. Took in about 75$ cash. We are forming a debaiting society this evening. Sunday, February 16 Weather quite pleasant. We had Sabbath school at the usual hour in the school house and church and church in the afternoon in church. Monday, February 17 Weather unpleasant snowing most all day. things moveing along as usual. Family all well. Tuesday, February 18 Weather pleasant today. The Mill was run last night & today. Race broak this afternoon I had to stop. Sent off a load of flour. Family all well. Wednesday, February 19 Weather quite pleasant. We had to mend the Race got to running in the afternoon again. Family all well. Thursday, February 20 Weather quite pleasant. Mr. C. H. Carson came up to see us today. We are running night & day and now got between 2 and 3 thousand Bushel wheat on hand. All well. Friday, February 21 Weather pleasant. We had a very bad brake in the Race had to repair today took us all day to do it with 2 or 3 hands to help us. Saturday, February 22 Weather not as pleasant today cooler. We sent off a load of flour to Morgan & Dorsey. Jacob went to Balto. today. All well. Sunday, February 23 Weather quite cold. We had Sabbath school as usual. In the absence of Bro. took his place. We had quite a full school. Monday, February 24 Weather quite wintery all day snowing quite hard most of the time and still at it snow now about 6 in deep. Sarah Amanda is quite unwell and has been for several days past. Tuesday, February 25 Weather continues quite winterish snow is about 7 in and still snowing. Sarah Amanda is still quite sick and has been for several days. Wednesday, February 26 Weather continues bad still cloudy & damp & ground covered with snow. Sarah A is still quite unwell but is something better today. My Family are pretty well. Thursday, February 27 Weather pleasant but still a little cloudy but it has been thawing all day. We have been running the Mill night & day all week. Cousin E-- came out today. Friday, February 28 Weather continues cold & plenty of snow on the ground. We are still running the flour Mill night & day one burr only. Sadie is still quite unwell. Saturday, February 29 Weather continues cold but does not freeze much. We have ran the Mill all week night & day. Sadie is something better today. My Family all well. Sunday, March 1 Weather continues very cold & still with plenty of snow on the ground. We had Sabbath school as usual. Sadie is still unwell. Monday, March 2 Weather continues cold & cloudy with rain & hail with some snow & wind. Jacob went to town. Came home in evening. Sent off a load of flour. Tuesday, March 3 Weather cold & ground covered with snow & ice. I went to Balto. today to get things for the store. Back in the evening. Wednesday, March 4 Weather continues cold. The Mill wheal froze up last eve and took all day today to get her loose so we could not run today. Family all about the same. Thursday, March 5 Weather pleasant today has been thawing most all day. We started the Mill but had to stop on account of so much ice on the wheal but from appearances it wont be long. Friday, March 6 Weather pleasant. We sent off a load of flour today. Family all well. Sadie is something better. Saturday, March 7 Weather pleasant and the snow is dissappearing quite fast. We had another brake in the Race this afternoon & had to stop. We are all well. Sunday, March 8 Weather very pleasant. We had Sabbath school as usual. We are all well. Sadie is much better. Monday, March 9 Weather pleasant. We are getting quite busy now with the Plaster & saw Mill. We have been crushing corn all day. We are all well. Had to mend the Race again today. Tuesday, March 10 Weather quite pleasant all day. Busy at boath Mills now working late & early. Had a load of Barrels come today from Frederick. We are all well. Wednesday, March 11 Weather quite pleasant. We had to work on the Race again today broke next to the Mill. We are very busy now at boath Mills. We are all well. Thursday, March 12 Weather has been cloudy all day with some rain. Boath Mills are going now. I attended Mr. W. P. Davis sail this afternoon Bought a Fann for the Mill and some Lard for the store. Friday, March 13 Weather pleasant. We commenced to grind Plaster today & sold some to Dr. Riggs. We are quite busy now with sawing & grinding. We are all well Sadie is getting much better. Saturday, March 14 Weather quite pleasant. I was in the store all day. John went to Balto. I received a notice today from the company & my appointment as Agent at Hood’s Mill for the B & O R. R. Co. We are all well. Sunday, March 15 Weather very pleasant all day. We had Sabbath school as usual. About home the rest of the day. We are all well. Monday, March 16 Weather quite pleasant. We commenced to get the foundation ready for Frtz House Old Cooper Shop. Going to move it next to store on the west side. Boath Mills going all day. Family all well. Tuesday, March 17 Weather quite warm. Rained a little in the evening. We are all busy now with the new Building & at the Mill. We are all well. Mary went to Balto. today. Wednesday, March 18 Weather pleasant. John & I worked all day on the Fertilizer House. We are building it on the West side of the store. Jacob ran the saw Mill all day. We are all well. Thursday, March 19 Weather pleasant. I received a letter from Charles informing us of the death of Mr. Frank Gees. Died at 12 O’clock yesterday. He had been sick for several months. Friday, March 20 Weather quite wintery all day. I went to Balto. today to attend the Funereal of Mr. Frank Gees. He had a very large funereal. The Family takes it very hard. I stayed in town all night. Saturday, March 21 Weather continues quite bad. Has been snowing all night & all day today. I attended to what business I had to do & got back home on the Frederick train. Family all well. Sunday, March 22 Weather cold & ground covered with snow. Sister Eliza was sick today so Jacob & I did not go to Sabbath School. J. E. Dorsey was there and had school. Monday, March 23 Weather quite pleasant. We commenced again on the Old Cooper Shop and finished taring it. We had a Pig killed on the R. R. We are all well. Tuesday, March 24 Weather pleasant. We worked part of today on the Fertz House. In the afternoon we all helped to get the rock that fell down in the Race cross the river out. Wednesday, March 25 Weather cloudy and wet all day. Some hail fell with the rain. Very dull about Hood’s Mill today. Jacob started with his company to Balto. to attend a Selabration tomorrow the arrival of the first Br--- vessel. Thursday, March 26 Weather cloudy most all day ground covered with snow. I went to Balto this morning to see the Prosession. The turn out was very large. Returned in the evening. Friday, March 27 Weather cloudy & wet all day. Jacob got home this afternoon. We sent off a load of flour to Morgan & Dorsey. Grain is getting scarce & higher. Family all well. Saturday, March 28 Weather cold and ground covered with snow. Sister Eliza was sick today so we did not go to Sabbath school. John Dorsey was there & had school. Sunday, March 29 Weather quite pleasant. We had Sabbath school as usual in the school house. We are all well. Monday, March 30 Weather quite pleasant except night a little cold with frost. We are still working at the Old Cooper Shop moveing it. Hollie is unwell today. Tuesday, March 31 Weather quite pleasant. Worked all day on the fertilizer House. We are busy at the saw mill now. Hollie is still unwell. The rest of the Family are well. Wednesday, April 1 Weather quite pleasant. We are still getting the old Building together. We brought the Rough down and put it up after 6 this eve. Had about 30 men to help us found it very heavy. All well. Thursday, April 2 Weather pleasant except about noon. We had a blow & some rain. We finished the Rough of the old building. We got a load of wheat from Duffield’s today. Wheat keeps up 2.85 about the average. Friday, April 3 Weather very pleasant. We are still working on the Fertilizer house. We unloaded the first car load in it today Bradley’s Patent. We are getting quite busy now. Family well. Sister’s child was born this eve 9 O’clock. Saturday, April 4 Weather not quite so windy today cool & windy part of the day. We worked part of today on the Building. Afternoon I went to a Turnpike meeting at Matthews store. Sunday, April 5 Weather cool has been freezeing in the shade all day. We had Sabbath school as usual also Church in the evening. Family all well. Monday, April 6 Weather quite cool. We were quite busy all day selling Lime &co. Selling Lime, Building @ 40 and whitewashing @ 75 Bushel. 65$ a ton for Bone. We are all well. Tuesday, April 7 Weather cloudy & wet most all day windy & cold in the evening. I went to Balto. this afternoon to sign a Deed for the Lot I sold to Z. O. Wilson on McCullough St. Stoped with Bro. Jas. Wednesday, April 8 Weather a little windy but pleasant. I was busy about town all day attending to business. Got off for home in the evening. Magie Slicer is unwell. Thursday, April 9 Weather quite changeable snowing most all the afternoon & evening. We worked all day about the Plaster Mill. A load of Plaster came up this morning. Friday, April 10 Weather quite winterty. Snowed all last night about 3 in.deep on the ground this morning wet & bad all day. We still keep boath mills going all day. All well. Saturday, April 11 Weather quite pleasant all day. We are quite busy now with Fertilizers &co. Snow about all disappeared today. Family all well. We all went to the Debait this eve. Sunday, April 12 Weather pleasant in the morning but got cold in the afternoon & commenced to rain. We had Sabbath school as usual. Afternoon called to see Azel Mercer. Monday, April 13 Weather quite wintery. It snowed all last night. This morning it was about 2 or 3 in. deep but most all disappeared by night. Ran the saw mill all day. Tuesday, April 14 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto. today to see after some Bones that is comeing up for Mr. A. B. Davis. They cost us delivered at our place about 32.50 per ton. Wednesday, April 15 Weather cloudy & wet. Bones have not arrived yet. I am staying in town waiting for them. I brought Charlie in with me. Thursday, April 16 Weather continues wet. I am still waiting for the Bones. Have not arrived yet feal anxious for them to arrive so I can get back home. Friday, April 17 Weather continues wet. Saw the Capt. Of the vessel this morning. Came up Wednesday last but could not find me or I him. Making arraingements to unlaod. Saturday, April 18 Weather more pleasant today. Got the vessel at the Wharf where we are to unload going to commence Monday. I am stoping most the time with Mother. Sunday, April 19 Weather cool & cloudy most of the day. I am still in Balto. went to Dr. Fuller’s morning & evening. Baptized 2 in the evening. 21st Anniversary of the S. S. today Monday, April 20 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. We commenced to unload today just as soon as we could get cars. The Bones are very good. Tuesday, April 21 Weather continues wet. Could not work all day on account of the rain. I am very sorry had to stop. I am so anxious to get home. Wednesday, April 22 Weather more pleasant today. We made good head way getting out the Bones today. Want to get through in the morning so I can get home tomorrow. Thursday, April 23 Weather quite pleasant today. We got through about 10 this morning. I then settled up with the men & made arraingements to go home on the Frederick train. Went over the new [--]there by town. Friday, April 24 Weather quite pleasant. We worked all day unloading cars of Bones part for Mr. A. B. Davis part for us. We are Beating and grinding now. We are all well. Saturday, April 25 Weather cloudy & wet all day. I was in the store all day. Jonnie went to Baltimore this afternoon. We are still running the Bone Mill. The flour Mill is stoped. No wheat 3 & 3.30 per Bushel. Sunday, April 26 Weather quite pleasant. Sabbath school as usual. I was alone there today Bro. being away. About Home balance of the day. Family all well. Monday, April 27 Weather pleasant. We are Busy now Beating & Grinding Bones. I was alone in the store today Jonnie being away. Tuesday, April 28 Weather pleasant. I was busy all day working about home. We are about out of wheat & have been for a week or two. Wheat very high & scarce. All well. Wednesday, April 29 Weather cloudy & damp all day. Jacob went to Balto. today witness in the case of Carvil Willis. I worked all day on Fertz House. Family all well. Thursday, April 30 Weather warm & pleasant. We commenced to dig out for the addition to the Mill E. side. Sold some Fertz today. Family all well. Friday, May 1 Weather pleasant. Jacob went to Westminster today to have our License renewed. We was quite busy all day. Family all well. Saturday, May 2 Weather Cloudy & wet part of the day. We was quite busy in the morning. Afternoon I took my Family to Balto. Sallie wants to spend a week or so there. Arrived all safe & well. Sunday, May 3 Weather pleasant in Balto. Morning I went to Sabbath School & Church at Dr. Fuller’s & also in the evening. Afternoon went to see Bro. James took tea with him. Monday, May 4 Weather pleasant. Busy all the morning in Balto buying Plaster &co. Left my Family in town and came home in the evening found all well but had been very busy. Tuesday, May 5 Weather cloudy & damp all day. We finished digging the cellar at the addition to the Mill. We had a good many call for Plaster today but we were out. Wednesday, May 6 Weather quite warm all day. We were quite busy unloading Brakeing & grinding plaster. The flour Mill is running now. We have some little wheat on hand but it is very high $3.35 Bushel Thursday, May 7 Weather cloudy and wet most all day rained quite hard last night. We sold some Fertilizer today & busy in the Mills. Sallie & the children are still in Balto. Friday, May 8 Weather cool. We are running boath Mills. Business is getting something better. My Family are still in town. I red a letter from Sallie they are all well. Saturday, May 9 Weather pleasant today. We were quite busy all day today with Plaster principally. I went to Balto. in the evening found my Family all well. Sunday, May 10 Weather pleasant. We had quite a time with Hollie last night. He had a light spasom but appears better today. I attended Dr. Fuller’s all day. A Mr. Carbey preached in the evening. Monday, May 11 Weather pleasant. I was busy all the morning Paying off Bills and getting goods. Hollie is still unwell. I came home on the evening Train & brought Charlie with me. Tuesday, May 12 Weather quite pleasant. We are quite busy now with Fertilizers, Plaster &co. Sallie is still in Balto. Wednesday, May 13 Weather very wet all day raining quite hard at times. River quite high. We ran Bone Mill and Saw Mill. Thursday, May 14 Weather pleasant today. We are very busy with Plaster & some Fertilizers. I was up with the Bone Mill last night. Friday, May 15 Weather rather changeable all day raining and sunshine alternately. We were not quite so busy today but the Bone & Saw Mill ran all day. Sallie is still in Balto. Charlie is with me. He is not quite so well this evening. Saturday, May 16 Weather pleasant today except a little cloudy & foggie in the morning. We are still selling Fertilizer & Plaster. Sallie is still in Balto. I did not go in today. Sunday, May 17 Weather cloudy & wet all day. We had no Sabbath School today. Sallie is still in Balto. We are all well. Monday, May 18 Weather pleasant today. We commenced and worked all day on the foundation wall to the addition to the Mill. Sallie is still in Balto. all well. Tuesday, May 19 Weather pleasant. We worked all day Building Stone wall for the foundation. Sallie is still in Balto. Wednesday, May 20 Weather cloudy & damp all day. We are still working at the foundation. We had another load of Plaster come up today. Thursday, May 21 Weather cloudy & wet all the morning but cleared off in the afternoon. We worked about the new building all day. We sent Morgan & Dorsey a load of flour. 70 Bbls. Friday, May 22 Weather pleasant. We are still busy with Plaster. Charlie & I went to Balto. in the evening. Found Sallie & the children all well. Saturday, May 23 Weather quite wet all day. I was quite busy buying for the store and Paying Bills. Expect to stay in untill Monday. Evening all well. Sunday, May 24 Weather cloudy but no rain. I was to Dr. Fuller’s S. School & also to Church. I suffered very much with my hip all day. Monday, May 25 Weather quite pleasant. I got through with what I had to do in the morning & we started Home in the evening. Arrived safe. Tuesday, May 26 Weather quite pleasant. We got the timbers cut & halled for the first floor to the addition to the Mill. Family all well. Wednesday, May 27 Weather pleasant but a little rain in the evening. Jonnie went to Balto. today came back in the evening. I was in the store all day. Jacob is getting cut timber for the addition. Thursday, May 28 Weather cloudy & wet all day. We are still selling some fertilizers. Business tolerable good in the store. Family home and all well. Friday, May 29 Weather warm. Jacob went after wheat today over in Howard Co. bought 200 Bushels. Costs from 2.60 to 2.90. We are all well. Saturday, May 30 Weather quite warm today. We fixed up the fence about the dam & turned our hogs over there today. We are still beating bone. Grindeing today. Family all well. Sunday, May 31 Weather quite pleasant. We held Sabbath at Watson Chapple today had quite a full school. Monday, June 1 Weather pleasant. Good weather for the growing crops, grindeing flour today, working on the new addition, all well. Tuesday, June 2 Weather pleasant. We are still at work on our new building. We put the first floor joist on today. Still beating & grinding Bone. Family all well. Wednesday, June 3 Weather pleasant. Jacob & I worked most all day on the new building & grinding Plaster. The flour Mill is still running. Wheat is comeing down 2.80 to 3.00 best per bushel. All well. Thursday, June 4 Weather continues pleasant. We worked all day hawling logs for the new building. We are still beating Bones. Family all well. Friday, June 5 Hollie fell off the back porch today. Weather pleasant. Wheat crops are looking well. The weather has been very favourable for it. We are working at odd times on the Building. We cleaned up our Room today. Saturday, June 6 Weather quite warm today about the warmest we have had. We are still working at the new addition to the Mill. Business tolerable good in the store. Mdse. Sails about 30$ day. Sunday, June 7 Weather quite warm. We held S. School in the Church today had a very good school no preaching in the afternoon. Family all well. Monday, June 8 Weather continues warm. We are all working on the new addition to the Mill. Perry is still beating Bones. Family all well. Tuesday, June 9 Weather warm. We are still working on the new Building. I am fealing very bad with Rhumatism in my leg. Went to see the Dr. today. Wednesday, June 10 Weather cool today. Jonnie went to Westminster after Milch Crocks. Still working on the Building. I am still fealing unwell. Thursday, June 11 Weather quite wet all day. Thursday, July 23 Weather warm. We got news of the Death of Emma Ground this morning when the mail arrived. She died very sudden. We did not know she was sick. We want to go in tomorrow. Friday, July 24 We have had one of the greatest floods here and along the line of the R. R. that ever was Known before. It has almost ruined us taken away all the Bone Plaster & saw Mill. Filled up half of tale race. Washed away most of the dam & a great deal of the race bank & damaged everything else more or less. Saturday, July 25 Weather has been quite pleasant all day today. We have all been busy cleaning away dirt in and about the Mill & House. We are going to work & try & rebuild & repair again as soon as posible with the help of the Good Lord. We are in hopes to get all right again. All well. Sunday, July 26 Weather pleasant. Sabbath School as usual but rather small attendance. Most everybody is walking up and down the R. R. to see the destruction caused by the flood of Tuesday last. Monday, July 27 Weather pleasant. Cleaning up the Mill & commenced on the tale race to clean out. We are putting on all the men we can get but it appears to get along slow. We are all well. Tuesday, July 28 Weather continues quite pleasant. We have 9 men working on the Race and are trying to get more men. About 1000 men arrived here today working on the R. R. Quite lively in the store this eve. Wednesday, July 29 Weather pleasant. We are busy as we can on Repairs caused by the flud. We have been getting the head gate to peases so we can hall it back & put it up again. The rest of our forse in on the tale race cleaning it out. Thursday, July 30 Weather pleasant. We have been halling up the Head Gate & Lumber that washed away. We are getting along as fast as we can. About 300 men have been working on the brakes in the R. R. Doing pretty well in the store. Friday, July 31 Weather pleasant with some rain but not enough to prenough(sic) the hands from working. We have the tale race about finished. I have commenced on the race bank next to the Mill & on the Head Gate. Family all well. Saturday, August 1 Sister Eliza’s child died this morning. Weather pleasant. All the hands are working on the upper race today. Got through cleaning out the tale Race the frame of the Head gate is in. Sallie is not very well today. We got along very well on the Repairs. Jacob went to Westminster to give the Deed & Rec. the pay for the School House & Lott. Sealed it for $400.00 Tuesday, August 4 Weather pleasant. All hands still at work on the Brakes caused by the Late flud. Got along very well today commenced on the Dam working about 12 or 15 hands and about 7 carts. Wednesday, August 5 Weather cloudy & wet part of the day caused the River to rise. I could not work on the dam but got along very well with the carts. Family all well. Thursday, August 6 Weather warm but pleasant. We are hard at work on the Dam & Race Bank next to the Head Gate. Got along very well but find it slow work & very hard. I find the flood has done a great deal of damage on Harrisson St. & in that locality but are getting it all fixed up again. Wednesday, August 19 Weather quite warm. I came home this morning & Mother & Maggie came out woith me. We commenced to grind this afternoon for the first. We are still working a few hands wideing the tale race. We commenced to hall up the old Building material of the Mills that washed away dureing the Late flood. Mill is running now. No Prayer meeting this evening. Jonnie out collecting. Jacob is still unwell confined to his room. Perry & John is working at the tale race of the new Mill. Tuesday, November 24 Weather pleasant for this time of year. Today is my Birth day 40 years of age. Time appears to fly fast. It finds me well with a pleasant family of Wife and 5 children about me. All well. Wednesday, November 25 Weather pleasant. Business quite dull today. The Mill is still idle no wheat comeing in. The men are digging out the tale race. Family all well. Thursday, November 26 Weather pleasant. Thanksgiving day. I was busy in the store but we done nothing else. Family all well. Friday, November 27 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto. and took Charlie with me. got back home in the evening. I left Mother & Family all well. Saturday, November 28 Weather pleasant but quite frosty this morning. Business was very good in the store today. Mills have been running since noon yesterday. Sunday, November 29 Weather cool but clear. Sabbath school as usual. Preaching in the afternoon by Mr.Osborn(?). Prayer meeting at night. Family all well. Monday, November 30 Weather pleasant. We are working on the stone work of the tale race. Family all well. Tuesday, December 1 Weather pleasant but Cool. I went to Balto. today and back. Family all well. Wednesday, December 2 Weather cool but clear. We are still working at odd times on the new Mill. We got ready today to Kill the Hogs. We are all well. Thursday, December 3 Weather pleasant but cold. We killed out Hogs today 15 weighed 2690 lbs got through about noon. Family all well. Friday, December 4 Weather quite cold. We finished up the tale race & covered it over up to the new Mill this morning. Cut up the Hogs in the afternoon. Snowed all afternoon. Saturday, December 5 Weather pleasant. It snowed most all last night. It was about 4 or 5 in deep this morning but pleasant all day. Finished salting down the meat. John & Perry was halling out below the Mill. All well. Sunday, December 6 Weather quite unpleasant all day under foot. Sabbath School in the morning. Afternoon Jacob & I rode up to see Mr. Reed. Family all well. Monday, December 7 Weather very unpleasant. Snowing & raining most all day. Snow not very deep but very slopy. Mill not running all day. Family all well. I received a Telegram from Williams today in regard to some Money sent. Tuesday, December 8 Weather quite cold & windy. I went to Balto. & returned on Business. Called to see Mother found them all well. Mill is still idle but we have plenty of flour on hand Wednesday, December 9 Weather continues quite cold & ground covered with snow. John & Perry are halling dirt to grade off below the Mill. Afternoon Jacob & I walked out to Mr. Sopers(?) Mill. Family all well. Thursday, December 10 Weather quite cold. Jonnie went to Balto. today. I am alone in the store not very busy now. Mill not running no wheat. Wrote above for some. All well. Friday, December 11 Weather continues very cold ground covered with snow. Jonnie got home this eve. Business quite dull. Mill still standing still no wheat came yet. Family all well. Saturday, December 12 Weather more pleasant today but still quite cold. Business a little better in the store today. Got up some Christmas things. Mill still idle. Sent 10 Bls flour to the Mills. All well. Sunday, December 13 Weather cool but clear ground still hard froze and covered with snow. Sabbath School as usual. Preaching in the afternoon by Mr. Carbey and prayer meeting at night. Monday, December 14 Weather continues about the same but not quite as cold in the afternoon. Started the Mill on a little job of wheat today. John & Perry are puting dirt below the Mill. All Well. Tuesday, December 15 Weather not quite so cold today. Mill is still running. Business tolerable good in the store. I have not been very well last night & today. Family all well. Wednesday, December 16 Weather quite wintery all snowing & raining alternately. Business dull today. Mill did not run today no wheat. Family all well. Thursday, December 17 Weather pleasant but dry & cool. I was alone in the store today. I was very busy. Mill still idle. Family all well. Friday, December 18 Weather continues about the same. Mr. Waters & Mr. Jas. Hale Trial came off Ejectment suit. Hale will have to leave. Business not so good today. Saturday, December 19 Weather pleasant but the ground is still covered with snow. The men are still halling dirt below the Mill. I was alone in the store all day. Family all well. Sunday, December 20 Weather pleasant but the walking is still quite bad. Sabbath School as usual. Preaching at 11 o’clock by a Mr. Richards Monday, December 21 Weather continues about the same pleasant over head but bad under foot. Business tolerable good today. Mill still idle. Family all well. Tuesday, December 22 Weather continues quite cold. Business Dull. Mill still idle. Family well. Wednesday, December 23 Weather continues cold. Business a little better. Jonnie went to Baltimore today. children not very well. Thursday, December 24 Weather cold & Cloudy today. Business tolerable good today. Maggie is quite unwell and also Charlie & Hollie is unwell. Friday, December 25 Christmas Day. Weather cool but pleasant. I spent the day in the store. Made 3 or 4 calls with Jas. Hood & others. Most of my Family are unwell. I am not very well. Saturday, December 26 Weather cold & Cloudy. Business just tolerable good. I have been alone in the store yesterday & today. Jonnie got back this eve. Most of my Family are sick. Sunday, December 27 Weather cold & cloudy. Sabbath School but I did not go today. Children most all sick & we have lost a good deal rest. Monday, December 28 Weather quite pleasant today. Business dull most of the (blank) Family unwell. Thursday, December 31 Weather quite unpleasant today damp & Cloudy. Business dull. Mill is running but very little wheat on hand. I feal thankfull at the Close of another year. It finds us all alive with enough to make us Happy.
