I am still in Marysville. My Family is at Hood’s Mill yet. I am anxious to get through with what Business I have here to attend to then return to them. Wm. Hays & I rode over to Mr. S. Pain’s found them all well. Sunday, January 2 Weather pleasant but cool. At Church & Sunday School in the morning & at the Presbyterean in the evening. Afternoon Meser Rhees, McQuaid & I took a walk over the Oregon R.R. Bridge Monday, January 3 Weather continues about the same. I rec the Deed for the 2 story House on 5th St. & 2 Letters from Sallie. Sold the 4 chares and sentre Table to Capt. Gibson for 26$. He is moveing out today. McDermott is moveing in. I sent J. S. B. money on his cabins(?). I signed the Deed of the house sold to McCollum. Tuesday, January 4 Weather pleasant but cool. I left the Deed to McCollom with Decker & Jewett to be given to him when the payment is made I then started to Gilroy via Sac. & Stockton arrived San Jose at about 7 in the evening. Stoped there for the night. Wednesday, January 5 Weather frosty & cool. I left San Jose about eleven arrived at Gilroy about noon. Saw several of my old acquaintances there formerly of Marysville. Stoped with Col. Hansin for the night. Evening went with him to prayer meeting. Gilroy is quite a lively place but dont think it will grow very large. Thursday, January 6 Weather quite cold & frosty in the morning. I started from Gilroy about 7 arrived at San Francisco 12-45 noon came by way of Oakland & San Jose Junct. Very much pleased with the country we pased through. I find San Francisco has very much improved. Evening went to prayer meeting at First B. Church. Friday, January 7 Weather pleasant cool. I left San Francisco at 8 this morning for Vallejo arrived there about 10. Stayed there all day & night with John T. Cook in H. Starr’s Mill. Looked at work there. Saw Mr. and Mrs Chandler at the Hotel where I stoped Solano House Saturday, January 8 Weather pleasant but cool & frosty. I left Vallejo this morning about 10 for Marysville. Arrived there about 2 in the afternoon. I was very well pleased with the road & the Country. Was busy after I arrived about Bowen’s Deed it had arrived. Sunday, January 9 Weather pleasant. At Church & school in the morning and evening. Boon & I took a walk in the afternoon. Part of the day I was writing to My Wife Monday, January 10 Weather pleasant. I did not do anything today. Work is quite slack now very little building going on. I sent J. S. Bowen his Money for his House. I am getting very anxious to start Home. Tuesday, January 11 Weather pleasant rained some last night but clear most of the day. I worked ¾ today at Mr. Saxey’s on D. St & fixed a Range at the Dorson House last night. Wrote to Sallie and G. H. Bollinger this evening. Wednesday, January 12 Weather cloudy & wet all day. I done a little job on D. St. Then I commenced my moddle brick machine. W. B. Hays doing the carpenter work. No letters from Home today. Thursday, January 13 Weather wet all day & most all last night. We worked all day on the moddle have not finished it yet. No letters from Home. I wrote Bro. Williams this eve. In the shop all the evening. Friday, January 14 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. I finished the moddle today I think it will work. I rec a letter from Sallie my Family are all well. Wind is blowing quite hard tonight. Stayed in all the evening with Mr. Reese Saturday, January 15 Weather pleasant. I did not do anything today have nothing to do. Van Dike & I went out gunning a little while in the evening. I Bought a watch & chain from E.M. Wright watch 35 & chain 4$. Feeling anxious to get home Sunday, January 16 Weather pleasant. In the morning I was at our Church & Sabbath school. Afternoon I was with Mr. Reese & Julian my old brickyard hand. Evening went to the M.E. Church. We voted to give Rev. Mr. Jameson a call Monday, January 17 Weather cool & cloudy most all day. I did not do anything today. Rec. 3 letters one from G.H. Bollinger one from Jacob & one from Sallie. Tuesday, January 18 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. I rode out with Bro. John Eaton today to see his Rancho. Rained quite hard all the evening. I think I will soon be ready to start Home. Wednesday, January 19 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. Time pases away very slow as I have nothing to do. I am trying to get ready to start Home by the middle of next week. Thursday, January 20 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. I worked most all day at my House on D. St. repairing the sink. The Deed for the corner House on D St came this eve. I think I am soon ready to start Home. Friday, January 21 Weather cloudy & rained a little. I worked all day at the D St House paveing in the yard and fixing the sink in the chitchen. Evening I rec a letter from My Wife. They are all well. I think I will be ready to start Home about the middle of next week. Saturday, January 22 Weather cloudy but no rain. I finished what I had to do on D St. and Mrs. Hultz paid me the rent up to the 20 of this Month that being the time that it is due. I think I will be ready now to start Home the middle of next week. Sunday, January 23 Weather pleasant. At Church & Sunday School in the morning and at the Presbyterean in the evening. Monday, January 24 Weather a little cloudy but no rain. Sold two Lots for Bowen. Settled up my two Houses on 5th & F Streets. Have been quite busy all day getting ready to start Home Wednesday next. Tuesday, January 25 Weather quite pleasant. I was quite busy all day getting ready to start home. I sold my lot on [-] St to Mr. Bloggit for 50$. Evening at Bro. Barnes Wednesday, January 26 Weather quite pleasant. I was busy all day getting ready to start home tomorrow. I sent my money through Decker & Jewett and sent the Draft to my Wife. Thursday, January 27 Weather pleasant. I started Home from Marysville this morning at 10 in company with Jacob Foam. We had to wait at the junc. 2½ Hours. From there we made good time over the mountains. Friday, January 28 Weather pleasant but I find it getting cooler than at Marysville. At daylight this morning we were on the Humbolt. We made good time all last night and today. Dark found us nearing the head of the Humbolt Vallie Saturday, January 29 Weather continues very pleasant but plenty of snow on the ground. At day light this morning we were at Promintory. Arrived at Union Junc. 8 O’clock. Arrived at Wahsatch about 2 PM. Laying over for a train ahead off the track 2 men kiled. Sunday, January 30 Weather quite pleasant snow on the ground. We pased the train last night off the track. 5 cars went off and turned over on there side. Reported 5 or 6 men kiled. We made very good time today pased quite a snow drift but the tracks was clear. Will pass the Summitt of the Rockey Mountains tonight. Monday, January 31 Weather continues quite pleasant but cool. This morning found us just over the Rockey Mountains. Arrived at Omaha after dark. Crossed the River on the ice. Took cars there for St. Louis Tuesday, February 1 Weather continues quite pleasant. Very little snow on the ground at this part of the Country. We left St. Joseph this morning at 6-45 arrived in St. Louis. Stoped all night there at the Planters. Wednesday, February 2 Weather a little cloudy today and some snow fell. Started for Cinncinati arrived there about 9-30. Stoped at the Burnitt House. Mr Carson is still traveling with me. We leave here in the morning for Hime Via B&O RR Thursday, February 3 Weather pleasant. We left Cincinnati this morning for Balto. Arrived at Parkersberg just at dusk. Arrived at Grafton about 1130 at night. Friday, February 4 Weather pleasant but a little cooler then Cal. I arrived in Balto at noon. Went to Mother’s found them all well. Started for Home about 4 arrived at dusk. Found my Family all well. Willie did not know me. Saturday, February 5 Weather cool & cloudy. At home all day. Very glad to be with my Family and find them all well. Business is dull. The Mills are running. We are buying good wheat now for 1.25 per Bu. Family all well. Sunday, February 6 Weather pleasant. At Sabbath school in the morning & preaching in the afternoon by Rev. Mr. Haskill. Family all well. Monday, February 7 Weather continues pleasant. Almost as pleasant as I left in California 10 days ago. I have not commenced to do anything want to go to New York with Maggie first start tomorrow. Tuesday, February 8 Weather quite wintery this morning snowed all last night & quite fast this morning. We started for New York this morning to see Dr. L. A. Sayor about Maggie. Took her & Hollie with us. Stoped at Mother’s in Balto. on our way. Left Balto. at 10-40 PM. Wednesday, February 9 Weather clear but quite cold with a heavy snow on the ground. We arrived in New York about 8 this morning. Stoped at the Western Hotel. I saw the Dr. in the morning & went again with Sallie & Children in the evening but could not see him. Thursday, February 10 Weather more pleasant. We took Maggie to see the Dr. this morning, cant do anything for her will have to return & follow his advice. Charged 20$ for telling us what to have done for her. We will leave at 9-20 this evening for home. Friday, February 11 Weather cool but pleasant. We arrived in Balto this morning about 5 O’clock. Stoped at Mother’s untill about 4 this afternoon. Came up on Winchester train found all well. Willie was very glad to see his Mother. Saturday, February 12 Weather pleasant but quite bad underfoot with 4 or 5 inches snow. The Mill is running in the day time business dull. We are thinking some of starting a House in Balto to sell our own Flour. Sunday, February 13 Weather cool but pleasant part of the day considerable snow on the ground. I did not go to Sabbath School today, about home most all day. Monday, February 14 Weather wet & cloudy all day. I went to Balto Charlie went with me. We have some notion of Renting a House in Balto and try and sell our own flour. Looked about some but did not see a House that would suit us. Stoped all night with Mother. Tuesday, February 15 Weather wet all day. I went to Washington to see something in regard to my Brick machine. Returned to Balto in the evening. I spent most of the day in the Capital. Wednesday, February 16 Weather quite pleasant all day. It cleared off last night. I saw a House on N. Howard St. at No. 143 that I think will suit us Rent 750$. I ingaged 50 tons Plaster delivered on the cars at 5$ per 2240 lbs. Returned home in the eve. All well. Thursday, February 17 Weather quite pleasant. At home all day helping Jacob to saw most of the day. Maggie was put to bed yesterday and the Extention applied. She appears to get along very well with it on. We are thinking of renting a house in Balto to sell our flour. Friday, February 18 Weather cloudy & wet all day. We put in a gurder under the Plaster floor & put the Bridge back in its place & some other little fixing up about the Mill. Maggie is getting along very well. Saturday, February 19 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto to see about takeing a store to sell our own flour. Afternoon went out to see J. S. Bowen. Returned to Balto in the evening stoped all night with Mother. Sunday, February 20 Weather pleasant in the morning rained & snowed in the afternoon. Morning went to Dr. Fuller’s went home with Bro. James stayed with him all the afternoon. Weather bad & did not go out. His Family are all well. Monday, February 21 Weather quite cold freezeing all day. I stoped all night with James. Think I best not to take a store in Balto this year. Sold my Gold today $2500 at 119. Settled the Bill for the Corn Burrs $265. Returned home in the evening all well. Tuesday, February 22 Weather quite cold all day. I worked about the Mill most all day. Business just tolerable good. Maggie is getting along very well. Wednesday, February 23 Weather more pleasant today. Two loads more Plaster came up this morning. I unloaded them in the Plaster Mill & I feal very tired & sore from it. Business tolerable good today. Richard Powers came up last evening. Engaged shoes from him. Thursday, February 24 Weather cold but dry. I worked about the Mill most all day crushing corn. Maggie appears to be getting along very well. Hollie is not well. Friday, February 25 Weather continues cold with considerable ice about the first we have had this winter. I was about the Mill all day. Hollie is something better today. Saturday, February 26 Weather quite pleasant. Business was very good all day. I was about the Mill all day. Perry has been brakeing Plaster most all this week. We got a lot of corn to grind from Woodbine today. Sunday, February 27 Weather cloudy & wet all day. I stayed about home all day. Maggie is getting along very well under Dr. L. A. Sayer of N.Y. treatment. Monday, February 28 Weather more pleasant today but quite mudy. I was about the Mill all day. Business tolerable good. Perry is brakeing Plaster. Paying 1.15 for very good Wheat. Flour bringing about 6 to 6.50 per Bbl. Tuesday, March 1 Weather changeable but not very cold snowed some. I went to Balto. Paid for the Bal. Of the mashinery in the new Mill & ordered more to compleet it or about all we will require from Balto. Called to see Mother. Ellen Frazier leaves this Eve for Cincinnati with her Family. Wednesday, March 2 Weather windy & cold. We were quite busy about the Mill getting 2 or 3 car loads Wheat from Frederick cost about 1.23. We are selling our best flour at 6.50. Family all well. Thursday, March 3 Weather more pleasant today. Quite busy all day about the Mill unloading Wheat & Plaster. We are in hopes that the Plaster trade will be tolerable good in the Spring. Friday, March 4 Weather cloudy & snowed a little. We are running two Burrs in the Merchant Mill & the Corn Mill at times on grists for the Neighbors. We have plenty of Wheat & Corn now on hand. We are not running at nights but run late. Family all well. Saturday, March 5 Weather pleasant. I was about the Mill all day. Jacob went to Balto. Business good. We have plenty of Wheat on hand now & are running two Burrs. Family all about the same. Sunday, March 6 Weather quite cold & commenced to snow about noon. We were at Sabbath School in the morning had quite a full school. No Preaching this afternoon on account of the weather. Family all well. Monday, March 7 Weather quite wintery this morning. About 4 inches of snow on the ground but was quite pleasant all day & most of the snow disappeared. Ran 2 Burrs all day & untill late tonight. Want to send off a load of flour tomorrow. Maggie is getting along very well. Tuesday, March 8 Weather pleasant but cool. I was about the Mills all day most of the time Crushing Corn. We sent away a car load (100) Bbls flour. We are all well. Maggie is getting along very well. Wednesday, March 9 Weather pleasant all day. I was about the Mills today. Business dull today. Maggie is getting along very well. Thursday, March 10 Weather pleasant. I was about the Mills all day excepting for an Hour or two that Andrew & I was sawing two Logs to make Plank for the Store Porch. Business quite dull today. Maggie is getting along very well. Friday, March 11 Weather quite pleasant. I worked all day in the Saw Mill had Perry with me. Sawed 872 feet. Jacob went to Balto. Selby ran the Flour Mill. Business dull. Sent away some feed to Jas.S. Gary & Son. All well. Saturday, March 12 Weather cloudy in the morning & evening and commenced to rain at night but most of the day was pleasant. We finished sawing what Logs we had on hand. Maggie getting along very well. Sunday, March 13 Weather changeable pleasant part of the morning. We had no Sabbath School. We were there but very few came. We walked to Sykesville to Church. Family all well. Monday, March 14 Weather pleasant. We worked all day making a place for cole opposite the House on the Switch. A load of cole came today we will unload it there. Family all well. Tuesday, March 15 Weather quite pleasant. We finished the Coal Bin and then worked the balance of the day on the front yard fense got it most all up. It was very much needed. Maggie is getting along well. Wednesday, March 16 Weather quite wintery. It snowed considerable last night some 3 or 4 inches on the ground this morning. Snowed some today. Jacob & I were busy all day fixing places for the Nales and other shelveing about the store. Business dull. Family about the same. Thursday, March 17 Weather cold. Ground covered with snow and snowed some. I was about the Mills all day. Business is dull & I am fealing anxious to make some change so we can do better. Friday, March 18 Weather quite pleasant. The snow is disappearing very fast today. We sent off a load of flour and some corn chop to Morgan & Dorsey also rec a load of Wheat from Frederick. Family well. Maggie is getting along very well. Saturday, March 19 Weather quite pleasant. Sabbath School in the morning. No Church today. About Home the remainder of the day. Maggie is getting along very well. Sunday, March 20 Weather pleasant. I worked in the Saw Mill all day sawing Lumber for Mr. Willis. Business is dull. Family all about the same. Monday, March 21 Weather continues pleasant. I worked all day in the Saw Mill. Got all the Logs sawed that is on hand. Jacob went to Balto. Family all about the same. Tuesday, March 22 Weather pleasant. I worked about the Mill all day. Business dull. Maggie is getting along very well. We have strong hope that she will get well again. Wednesday, March 23 Weather quite cool part of the day. I went to Balto. on Way train to see mesers Pool & Hunt about the mashinery for our new Mill. Stoped all night with Mother. Maggie Slicer is better. Thursday, March 24 Weather pleasant. Got through with what Bus. I had to attend to & Returned Home in the morning on Mail. We are getting ready to put in [--] & Line Shaft. Family all well. Friday, March 25 Weather pleasant. We halled 3 Logs from Mr. Waters Woods to make joist to go in the new Mill for the [--] floor. We want to get in the new mashinery just as soon as we can. Maggie is getting along very well. Saturday, March 26 Weather very pleasant. I worked about the Mill all day. Sawed joist awhile then commenced to shell corn & started the new Mill on corn chop. Willie quite unwell all day. Sunday, March 27 Weather quite unpleasant all day rained & blew very hard. Did not get away all day little afraid of high water. We were on the look out. Willie looks like he has the Measles. Monday, March 28 Weather cloudy most all day. We took in 19 Bbls Corn of J. E. Gaither at 4$ per Bbl. He is to bring more. Willie is thought to have the Measles is getting along very well. Maggie is getting along very well. Tuesday, March 29 Weather pleasant. About the Mills all day. Willie is getting along very well & also Maggie. Business just tolerable. Wednesday, March 30 Weather quite pleasant. I worked about the yard most all day fixing up the yard fence. Business dull. We are getting the Plaster Mill ready for opperations. Thursday, March 31 Weather cloudy & has much the appearance of rain. I worked about the front steps all day. Hollie was taken quite sick this eve has something like the Measles. Willie is better. Friday, April 1 Weather quite wet all day. Hollie is quite sick with the Sacrlett Fever. Dr. Morehead is attending our Family. Willie is better. We was up a great deal with Hollie last night. Maggie is getting along very well. Saturday, April 2 Weather wet all day. Hollie is very sick with Scarlet fever has it very bad. Dr. Morehead is attending him. I was with him a great deal of the day. Selby was away to the funeral of an Uncle. Willie is better Sunday, April 3 Weather cloudy all day and rained most of the time. I was with my Family all day did not go out. Hollie appears something better today. The Dr. brought Dr. Riggs with him today but we all think Hollie is better. We are doing all we can for him. The rest of the Family are pretty well. Monday, April 4 Weather cloudy and rained some. Worked about the Mill all day. We want to get up the new mashinery just as we can now—it is all up now what we need at present. Hollie is quite sick yet but appears to get along as well as could be Expected. Tuesday, April 5 Weather cloudy part of today it snowed some last night enough to cover the ground. I worked in the saw mill all day sawing. Hollie is very sick yet. We were afraid that we was worse this afternoon sent for the Dr. a second time. Wednesday, April 6 Weather quite pleasant. I have been with Hollie most all day. He is much worse most of today. We think he is a little better this eve. We have felt very much afraid of him today but we hope that the Good Lord will spare his life. Thursday, April 7 Weather pleasant. I am staying with Hollie now all the time he is very low all day but still we have hopes that the Good Lord will spare his life. Friday, April 8 Weather quite pleasant this morning frost last night. With Hollie he is quite low this morning. The Dr. was with him since 2 O’clock. 8 in the morning Hollie from appearances is better thank the Good Lord Saturday, April 9 Weather quite pleasant. Sallie & I are still watching over Hollie every move he makes and has the attention of 2 Drs. Riggs and Morehead. We were much frightened all this afternoon expecting him to dye every minute and everyone that saw him. Sunday, April 10 Weather cloudy & a little cool. Hollie is still living thanks to the Good Lord. He was very low all last night but we have some hopes today but still very low. We are doing all we can for him. Monday, April 11 Weather cool but pleasant. Hollie is something better today but is quite low yet is very week but our hopes is a little better today. Tuesday, April 12 Weather pleasant. Hollie was better this morning untill noon but was very low afternoon & evening. We gave him up several times. He appears to be suffering more now with his throat. Dr. Riggs came over in the evening to see him. Wednesday, April 13 Weather quite pleasant. Hollie was very low all last night, appears a little better this morning but did not last long and graduly got worse and suffered very much untill he died which took place at 6. Thursday, April 14 Weather quite summer like. I went to Balto today to see about having things arranged for our dear Boy’s funreal. I feel very sad and pray for grace to help us to bear up with our berevement. Friday, April 15 Weather quite warm all day. We took Hollie on the cars with us to Balto. and had the funeral service at Mother’s. Norris officiated put him in the vault at Mount Olivet untill we get a place to berry him. Mother wants us to berry him in the grave with his Grandfather. Saturday, April 16 Weather cloudy & cool. I made arrangements to berry our dear Boy in the Grave with his Grandfather, W. Slicer and had him removed from the vault and berried there this morning. Sister Annie and her son Charlie were with me. My hart is very sad indeed. Returned home in the evening. Sunday, April 17 Weather quite wet all day. We had no Sabbath School today. We miss out dear little Hollie very much but we know he is with the Lord. Monday, April 18 Weather cloudy & wet all day. I worked about the Mill all day. I feal very sad about my dear little Hollie. We are putting in some more mashinery in the new Mill. We are doing it now at odd times. All tolerable well. Tuesday, April 19 Weather cloudy most all day rained some. I was in the mill all day. Selling considerable Plaster now. Getting up the new mashinery in the new Mill. All well. Wednesday, April 20 Weather pleasant. We are quite busy now in the Plaster. Wheat is not coming in quite as fast as we would like. Family all well. Thursday, April 21 Weather pleasant. Jacob & I worked most all day getting ready to put the balance of the new mashinery. Business just tolerable good. We still miss our dear Hollie very much. Friday, April 22 Weather pleasant. We were quite busy this morning filing orders for Plaster to go to Woodstock and other places odd times. We worked on the new Mill. Saturday, April 23 Weather pleasant. I worked about the new Mill all day putting on joist top story. We are getting up the mashinery. All well. Sunday, April 24 Weather continues very pleasant. I did not go to Sabbath School today. I am afraid I will carry the fever there with me. I went to Church there in the afternoon. All well. Monday, April 25 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto. ordered 40 Tons Plaster. Paid Poole and Hunt Bill got some flooring and attended to getting my Moddle made for the Brick mashine. Returned in the evening. Tuesday, April 26 We had quite a frost. Weather quite pleasant. We got up our Line shaft and corn sheller & commenced to shell. We are well pleased with the working of it. Wednesday, April 27 Weather warm. We were very busy all day with Turner’s & Exc to unlaod 11 tons plaster to go down the Road & to several farmers. One load Plaster to unload. Family well. We still miss our Dear Boy. Thursday, April 28 Weather quite warm. We are quite busy now with Plaster & what time we have to spare we work on the upper part of the new Mill. Family well. Quite a storm this eve. Friday, April 29 Weather quite wet all day. Jacob went to Balto. Selby & I worked in the new Mill all day. Saturday, April 30 Weather quite pleasant all day. We were quite busy all day with Plaster sold to farmers. Retailed about 13½ tons. Kept us very busy. Perry ground it all. Jacob returned this eve. Willie was quite sick last night. Sunday, May 1 Weather pleasant. I was quite unwell all day I worked too hard yesterday. Took some medison last night. Went to Church in the afternoon. Bro. Haskell officiated Monday, May 2 Weather very pleasant. We were not quite so busy with Plaster today but do more or less every day. I feal something better today. Family well. Tuesday, May 3 Weather cloudy & some rain commenced about noon. Plaster Business still keeps up with us. We are selling at $10.00 cash, as delivered at the Mill 6$. I worked all the afternoon on the floor of the 4 story new Mill. Wednesday, May 4 Weather quite warm. We are still busy with Plaster sent 3 Loads to Ellicott City and some to go up the road. Family all well. I finished laying the floor in the last story in the new Mill. Thursday, May 5 Weather cloudy all day and some rain. I worked all day in the new Mill. Sold some Plaster. Flour Mill is running. Family all well. Friday, May 6 Weather warm. Stormed late in the evening. We are still busy with Plaster and at odd times we work on the new Mill putting in more mashinery. We are all well. Saturday, May 7 Weather cloudy but not much rain. We were quite busy all day with Plaster & Fertz. I worked some in the new Mill put up the corn sheller. I am feqaling very sad this eve on account of the loss of my dear little Hollie. Sunday, May 8 Weather cloudy & wet part of the day. We went up to the church but there was no school. Family well. Monday, May 9 Weather changeable clear & cloudy alternately and some rain. We ran out of Plaster but have ordered more of it ought to have been up this morning. All well. Tuesday, May 10 Weather continues about the same. Had quite a Hail storm. I am most of the time working in the new Mill fixing up the Fan and corn sheller. Family well. Wednesday, May 11 Weather wet part of the time. Plaster came up this Morning. We are quite busy this Spring with Plaster & other things. We are still putting new mashinery in the new Mill. Thursday, May 12 Weather cloudy & wet part of today but moist of the time clear. Busy with Plaster again today at odd times. I worked up in the new Mill. We are getting in some corn at 5$ per Bbl. Mr. Thomas Gatch is up to see us. Friday, May 13 Weather warm. We were quite busy all day Plaster, Corn Meal &co. Had a load of Plaster to unload. Had a load of Cole come also. Family well. Saturday, May 14 Weather quite pleasant all day. Not very busy today. The Plaster Business appears to be about over. Commenced shelling corn with the sheller in its new place in the loft. All well. Sunday, May 15 Weather quite pleasant warm in the sun. At Sabbath School & Church. Mr. Reed preached. Mr. T. Gatch is still with us was at S. School & Church with us. Family all well. Monday, May 16 Weather quite warm. I went to Balto. to attend to my Moddle and get some Lumber for the Mill & some things for the store. Did not get Home today Charlie is with me. Stoped at Mother’s. Tuesday, May 17 Weather pleasant. I got through and went up on the morning Mail. Jacob & I commenced the Corn Garner and worked in it the balance of the day. Family all well. Wednesday, May 18 Weather a little cloudy all day but no rain. At home all day working about the Mill. Put the down spout from the corn Garner. We sent Morgan & Dorsey a load of flour. All well. Thursday, May 19 Weather quite warm & dry. Farmers are still planting corn. Some are done & there corn is up. We are not very busy now except what work we have to do about the Mills. Friday, May 20 Weather continues quite warm & dry. I worked all day about the new Mill getting the corn garner up and other parts of the new Mill started. All well. Saturday, May 21 Weather quite warm. We got the corn sheller & Fan finished so they will run together and cleaned up what wheat we had shelled. Works very well. Family all well. Sunday, May 22 Weather quite pleasant but warm in the sun. At Sabbath School in the morning we had quite a good school. No Preaching today. Mr. Thomas Gatch is still with us. All well. Monday, May 23 Weather pleasant but warm in the sun. Sold some Plaster this morning. I went to Balto in the afternoon stayed all night. Stoped at Mother’s. All well. Tuesday, May 24 Weather continues warm. I got through with my Business and returned home in the evening. I fixed up and signed my papers for the Patant for the Brick Mashine today. The Splint for Maggie came on from New York today. Wednesday, May 25 Weather pleasant little warm in the sun. I commenced to cut out for the Dormer Door in the new Mill. Family all about the same. Thursday, May 26 Weather continues about the same. We are still working on the mashinery in the new Mill when we have time. We have to stop sometimes on Business. Family all well. Friday, May 27 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. We worked on the Dormer Door untill we had to stop on account of the rain. We have it most finished. Maggie’s Leg was lanced today. Saturday, May 28 Weather cloudy & wet all day. I worked awhile on the Dormer Door but had to stop got too wet. Our Retail traid is getting quite brisk. Family all about the same. Sunday, May 29 Weather wet all day. We had no Church or S. school on that account. I was about home all day. All well. Monday, May 30 Weather continues wet. Rained all last night but not hard. Business is not very brisk now. I did what I could to the Dormand Door inside. Family all well. Tuesday, May 31 Weather quite pleasant. We have the Dormand Door all finished. It is quite an improvement in looks as well as in conveniance. Business dull. Maggie is getting along very well on her splint. Wednesday, June 1 Weather quiet most all last night & this forenoon. We were quite busy all day in the new Mill with country work & grinding corn meal to ship away. All well. Sunday, June 5 Weather cloudy & wet part of the day. I worked about the Mill untill noon then Selby, Charlie & I went afishing caught a few. Tuesday, June 7 Weather clear most all day had one or two showers. I finished what sawing I had to do then went to grinding corn meal. We were not very busy today. Wednesday, June 8 Weather continues wet part of the time. We spent our spare time working in the new Mill. Maggie is getting along very well. Thursday, June 9 Weather continues about the same rains more or less every day. Tuesday, June 14 Weather quite pleasant all day the first clear day all day for a long time. Business quite dull today. We are getting along quite well with the new mill putting up elevators. All well. Wednesday, June 15 Weather pleasant all the forepart of the day but rained very hard in the evening with a great deal of thunder & lightning. I worked about the Hoisting Jack all day. All well. Thursday, June 16 Weather cloudy most all day but no rain but looks something like a gust tonight. Jacob & I worked at the Jack most all day. have it about finished. We are paying 1.40 for wheat. Friday, June 17 Weather quite warm & clear. We are busy working in the new Mill. Not grinding much now. Want to fix up and be ready for the Harvest. Mills are stoped for the present wheat is scarce worth at this place about 1.50 per Bu. Thursday, June 23 Weather pleasant. We are still working in the new Mill. John & Moses are still cleaning out the tale race. Mills are not running at present. All well. Friday, June 24 Weather quite warm all day. We worked all day in the new Mill. A lode of wheat came today. We will have to run the Mill tomorrow, want carn meal. All well. Saturday, June 25 Weather very warm. I worked in the Mill all the forepart of the day. I got through in Balto & returned home in the evening. I bought Cloths for the Mills 32 yards cost 100$ & a Belt for alevators for the new Mill. Tuesday, June 28 Weather quite warm all day. We was quite busy in the Mill all day filling orders & grinding but wheat is very scarce. We are afraid we will run out. All well. We had quite a shower in the evening. I worked about the new Mill most all day. We are most out of wheat again. I am thinking some of Renting my part of the property and return to Cal. Jacob will go in with Selby. We find it difficult to settle up with our customers short of funds. Wednesday, September 14 Weather continues dry & warm. I was trying to get ready so we could get off to Balto tomorrow. We have been quite busy getting the books squared away as near as possible. I am anxious to get off now as soon as possible. Arrived at Chicago at noon too late to take the train so we will have to lay over untill tomorrow night 10 o’clock. All getting along very well except Willie. He is not very well. Charlie & I walked around the Lake & then went to the First Baptist Church Sabbath School & remained to church bible Class & Church at night. Willie was quite sick all the afternoon & evening. Monday, September 26 Weather quite pleasant. We started from Chicago at 10 this morning. Arrived at Rock Island & Davenport about dark. Continued on our way after stoping about an half Hour. Willie is still quite sick. Tuesday, September 27 Weather cloudy & wet part of the time & very mudy. We arrived at Omaha aboyt 10 AM. From that point we checked our Baggage to Marysville, Cal. Thus far we have had quite a pleasant trip. Willie is still unwell. Left Omaha about 1 PM. Wednesday, September 28 Weather pleasant but nights are quite cool. We are still getting along finely & pleasantly. Arrived at Cheyenne about 1 PM. Dined & sent a paper to Jacob. Thursday, September 29 Weather pleasant. Nights are quite cold on the Mountains. We left Laramie today about 5:45 PM. Stoped for Meals. We wrote Mother & Maggie. We are still getting along finely. Willie is still unwell. Friday, September 30 Weather continues dry & warm in the day time. We pased through Echo Cannon this forenoon. Arrived at Ogden about 5 & started after dark. Remained there an Hour or two. We arrived at the Junction about 10 this morning & immediately changed cars for Marysville arriving there about 1¼ PM. Stoped at the Western Hotel. All of our friends seemed glad to see us return Sunday, October 2 Weather is quite pleasant both night & day. Marysville looks natchral and I feal glad to get back to my old Home. We went to Sabbath School & Church this morning—Ella, Charlie & Maggie. Our friends are all glad to see us return. Monday, October 3 Weather continues quite pleasant. I commenced a little job for Mr. Wilcosson, Yuba City this morning walling up a well. I also ingaged to go to work for Brown & Alexander adjoining the Masonic Hall. Prospects is not very good here for work. Family all well. Tuesday, October 4 Weather very windy & dusty all day. I worked untill about 3 this afternoon and finished the Well for Wilcoxson. The building next to the Masonic Hall in Yuba City will be ready by morning. All well. Wednesday, October 5 Weather more pleasant today. I started the building next to the Masonic Hall this morning. I do it by the day 6$ per day. Sallie made arrangements with Mrs Hultz to board us @ 80$ per month, 25$ for House deducted. Thursday, October 6 Weather very dry & warm. I worked all day on the same building. I have plenty of work to do days work that suit me best at present. We have not got at House keeping yet. Friday, October 7 Weather continues warm & dry. I am not fealing very well. Am still at work same place. Mrs Hultz has agreed to give up my House moves tomorrow so we will go rite in. Saturday, October 8 Weather continues the same. I did not go to work today. We moved in our House on D Street. I am fealing very unwell. The rest of the Family appears all well. Went to our little Church this morning & Sabbath School. Baptized a Swedish Ladie in the evening. Family all well. Monday, October 10 Weather continues warm & dry. Nights are quite pleasant. I am still working for Brown & Alexander Yuba City. Work goes quite hard with me. Tuesday, October 11 Weather warm & dry no rain yet & it is very dusty. I am still working at the same place. We are fixing up by degrees in our House. Wednesday, October 12 Weather continues about the same. Not quite as warm as it has been. I rode over to Mr. Simpson’s Rancho and built a Fireplace & flue today. Got back after dark. Family all well. Thursday, October 13 Weather continues warm & dry. I went to work again on the building in Yuba City. I am working there alone. Family all well. Friday, October 14 Weather continues about the same warm through the day & cool at night. Working at the same place. J. B. McDonald’s Wife died last night. Saturday, October 15 Weather quite windy this afternoon. I worked in the forenoon. Afternoon I went to Mrs. McDonald’s funereal. We are fixing up our House as we feal able. Bricklaying goes quite hard with me. All well. Sunday, October 16 Weather pleasant. At Church & Sabbath School all day. All well. Monday, October 17 Weather pleasant,. I worked all day at the Building in Yuba City. I am getting broke in again to lay brick. It still goes hard with me. Tuesday, October 18 Weather pleasant. I am still working at the same place. Family all well. Wednesday, October 19 Weather pleasant. I am still working in Yuba City. Have one man working with me. Willie is not well today. Thursday, October 20 Weather warm & no Rain yet been about 7 months since rain in Cal. I am still working in Yuba City. Willie is still ailing has something like chills. Friday, October 21 Weather continues about the same. I am still working at the same place. I paid my city taxes today 27.40. I am fealing better since I got broken in to work. Saturday, October 22 Weather quite windy & dusty. I worked untill noon stoped in the afternoon on account of the wind. I helped Sallie about Home in the afternoon. Family all well. Sunday, October 23 Weather cool & cloudy. It rained in the night some & some this morning. Sallie & the children went to church in the evening. Monday, October 24 Weather quite cool & very windy all the forenoon. I worked all day at Yuba City & had to give up a good job at the old Masonic Hall. Family all well. Tuesday, October 25 Weather quite pleasant all day. I am still working in Yuba City. Got up the first story at noon. Commenced on the second story in the afternoon. All well. Wednesday, October 26 Weather continues very pleasant. We are having light frosts at night. I am still working at my Job in Yuba City. Family all well. Thursday, October 27 Weather continues pleasant. I am still busy at Yuba City. I have quite a bad cold in my head & also the children. We are still fixing up our House at odd times. Friday, October 28 Weather continues pleasant frost at nights. I am still working in Yuba City. My cold in the head is still quite bad. Saturday, October 29 Weather continues warm & dry frost at nights but light. Made a full week on my House in Yuba City. Family all well. Sunday, October 30 Weather cool & pleasant. We had no preaching today at our church. Some difficulty with our Pastor W.W. Hakley(?). Sabbath School as usual. Morning I went to the Presbyterian. Evening to the M. E. Church Monday, October 31 Weather cool & windy. I went over on the Sacramento River at Mr. Lee Mouttons Rancho to build a cellar. Took Charles Fields with me. Went in W. B. Hays Buggy. Tuesday, November 1 Weather pleasant. We arrived at the Ranch last eve about 4 o’clock. Commenced work this morning. Expect to be here about 2 or 3 days. Wednesday, November 2 Weather pleasant. We are still at L. Mottontons. He has a very large ranch several thousand acres has about 8000 sheep and a great deal of other stock. Got along very well with the Brickwork today. Thursday, November 3 Weather pleasant. I got through with my job & returned home in the afternoon. I took a little Lamb home with me I found on my way out almost starved and alone on the Plains. Found all well. Friday, November 4 Weather continues warm & dry. I went to work on my job in Yuba City again this morning. I am still working alone. Family all well. Saturday, November 5 Weather continues pleasant but cool & frosty of nights. Worked all day felt very tired at night. Evening I went to the Rehearsal at our church. Family all well. Sunday, November 6 Weather cloudy & rained in the evening. A Mr. Hatch preached for us today. Sabbath School as usual. We received a letter from Eliza. Monday, November 7 Weather cloudy & wet most of the day. I went to work but had to stop about 10. I was about home the balance of the day. Tuesday, November 8 Weather quite pleasant today. We worked all day today. Our little Lamb died today. Family all well. I am fealing very well now. Work is not very brisk but I still have work. Wednesday, November 9 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. We went to work but had to stop at 11 & at 2 went home then. I helped Sallie to put up curtains. All well. Thursday, November 10 Weather very unpleasant windy & cold. We worked all day but it was very unpleasant. Working on the second story of Henry Shuester’s House next to Masonic Hall. Friday, November 11 Weather quite pleasant. Working in the same place & all day. We are all having excelent health at present. The weather is very healthey now frosty nights. Saturday, November 12 Weather quite pleasant like a Spring day at home in Maryland. I worked all day. We started this eve a new building next door for Brown & Alexander. All well. Sunday, November 13 Weather pleasant. Church & Sabbath School as usual. A Mr. Knight of San Francisco preached for us today. We are still without a Pastor. All well. Monday, November 14 Weather pleasant. We worked on the new building foundation of Alexander & Brown all day. It joins Henry Shuster’s building. Tuesday, November 15 Weather very pleasant. Quite warm most of the day. We are having some frost at night. We are toping out Shuster’s House. I worked all day alone. Wednesday, November 16 Weather continues quite pleasant. Getting quite dusty. Thermometer about 80 in the shade. I find it quite warm on the building. I still have plenty to do all well. Thursday, November 17 Weather continues about the same. I am still busy in Yuba City. Family all well. My Pen is very bad. Friday, November 18 Weather continues pleasant. I worked all day on Alexander & Brown’s new building alone. Commenced on the first story. Family all well. Saturday, November 19 Weather quite pleasant. We sat the first Iron Column & sill on the front of Alexander & Brown’s building. The first of the kind in the city. Family all well. Sunday, November 20 Weather quite pleasant. At church and Sabbath School. The Rev. Knight preached for us morning & evening. Family all well. I stay at home in the evenings. Thursday, November 24 Weather quite pleasant. Today is Thanksgiving Day and my Birthday. I am 42 years old today. I worked all day. I thank the Good Lord that we are all well. Friday, November 25 Weather continues pleasant. I worked all day. We sat the Iron Front this afternoon of Brown & Alexander’s House. I am still quite busy. Family all well. Saturday, November 26 Weather cloudy & wet most all day but not hard enough to stop me from work. We finished setting the Iron front and put in the arches. I rec’d a letter from Sam. All well. Sunday, November 27 Weather pleasant. Church & Sabbath School as usual. Charlie & I took a walk in the evening on our way home a little boy got run over by the cars got one leg cut off. Monday, November 28 Weather cloudy. I worked all day. I am still working in Yuba City. I am undesided yet what I will get at in the Spring. Family all well. Tuesday, November 29 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. I went to work at 9 on Mr. Boyd’s House setting Marble Mantles & grates. I took Diner with C. Fields. Family all well. Wednesday, November 30 Weather cloudy but not much rain. We worked all day setting Marble Mantles & grates, got through. I payed my insurance on D. St. house. All well. Thursday, December 1 Weather threatening but not much rain. We worked all day on the Building. Evening we all went to our Church socible spent quite a pleasant evening. Sallie commenced this eve to wean Willie. Friday, December 2 Weather quite unpleasant rained & the wind was quite high. We worked all the forenoon but had to stop in the afternoon. Family all well. Saturday, December 3 Weather cloudy most all day. We worked all day on the Building. I am still busy in Yuba City. Family all well. Sunday, December 4 Weather pleasant. Church & Sabbath School as usual. Bro. Knight is still occupying the place. Family all well. Monday, December 5 Weather cloudy & wet all day. I went to the Building and started to work but had to stop. I spent the balance of the day measuring up the Brickwork & plastering at Mr. Boyd’s House. All well. Tuesday, December 6 Weather cloudy & wet most of the day. We worked this afternoon. It is just the weather we need now so the farmers can get in the grane. Wednesday, December 7 Weather still continues wet. Worked a while this morning. Afternoon I went to Lee the bridge Builder’s funereal. Was berried at Yuba City. Thursday, December 8 Weather cloudy part of the day but we worked all day. We will soon top out if the weather keeps clear for a day or so. At home all the evening. Family all well. Friday, December 9 Weather clear but the wind was quite strong from the north. We finished up the second story, toped out the back wall of Brown & Alexander’s house. All well Saturday, December 10 Weather quite pleasant. We worked all day on toping out got nearley through. I am suffering very much with my Back. Family all well. Work is getting quite slack. Sunday, December 11 Weather cool but clear. At church & Sabbath as usual. After preaching we had a church meeting and gave Rev. Rhees a call at 1500$ per anom. Family all well. Monday, December 12 Weather quite cool in the morning. We had a very heavy frost last night. Morter was froze on the morter bords quite hard. I toped out Brown & Alexander’s house at 4 this afternoon. Tuesday, December 13 Weather cloudy & wet part of today. I started a Meet House for Mr. Wilcoxson today. Weather quite cool at night with frost. Family all well. My back is quite lame. Wednesday, December 14 Weather clear most of the day. I worked all day on the smoke house morter was froze on the bords. My back is troubleing me very much but I manage to work. Family all well. Thursday, December 15 Weather clear but cool with heavy frost in the morning. I worked all day at Mr. Wilcoxsons. Evening we all went to the sociable. Friday, December 16 Weather continues quite cold it froze quite hard last night and continues freezeing most all the forenoon in the shade. I worked all day. Family all well. Saturday, December 17 Weather more pleasant today but it was quite cold this morning with plenty of frost ice something unusual for this place. I worked all day. All well. Sunday, December 18 Weather quite cool. Freezes quite hard of nights. I saw frost all day in the shade. At Church & Sabbath School as usual. Family all well. Monday, December 19 Weather continues quite cold. I finished at Mr. Wilcoxsons Smoke House. Frost & ice all day in the shade. Evening at Home. Family all well. Tuesday, December 20 Weather cool & frosty. I was busy all day measuring up the two Buildings just toped out By count & measurement. Family all well. Wednesday, December 21 Weather continues cold & very frosty of nights with ice & cold enough through the day for frost to remain in the shade all day. I did not do anything today. All well. Thursday, December 22 Weather continues about the same. Charlie Fields & I started some paveing in Yuba City on Cort House St. have 2 or 3 Blocks of it today. Evening I helped at the Christmas Tree. All well. Friday, December 23 Weather continues about the same cold & dry. Charles & I worked all day at our paveing. Everybody appears busy getting ready for Christmas. Family all well. Saturday, December 24 Weather continues cool but not quite as cool as it has been. We worked all day today at our paveing. We had quite a nice time tonight at our Christmas Tree. Sunday, December 25 Weather quite pleasant today. Sabbath School & Church as usual. We are all very pleased with Bro. Knight our present Minister. All well. Monday, December 26 Weather pleasant. Charlie & I was out gunning about all day. Got one Goos and two Ducks. Evening at Home. Family all well. Tuesday, December 27 Weather quite pleasant. We finished the paveing about 1 today. Fixed the Water pipe in the front yard then Charlie & I went gunning got nothing. Wednesday, December 28 Weather continues dry & cool. I was out gunning most all day & did not get anything. Charlie was with me. I have nothing to do. All well. Thursday, December 29 Weather continues about the same. I was about home all day fixing up getting ready for tonight. Our Church held there social at our house this eve. Had a very pleasant time. Friday, December 30 Weather cool & dry. I got ready this afternoon to build a Chimney for Mr. Ward on 8th St. at H. Also settled up in Yuba City. All well. Saturday, December 31 Weather cool & dry. I worked all day at the Mr. Wards on 8th St. Well today is the last day of the old year and I trust that I am truly thankfull for past blessings. Altho the Good Lord has taken one of our dear children I trust it is for the best. I have reason to thank Him for many blessings that I have received and pray the Lord that He will keep us through the next year and bless us.
