Well, I am still in Marysville, Cal. With my family & I am at work yet for Swain & Hudson. I worked ½ day this morning repairing the Boilers did not work in the afternoon. Evening went to a meeting at our Church haveing meetings there all week. Bro. Hildreth is very much liked. Family are all pretty well. Thursday, January 2 Weather not settled yet but was so we could work all day so the Carpenters & I worked all day at W. Knights. I am not very busy now but still have some jobing on hand but loose considerable time on account of wet weather. Friday, January 3 Weather Cloudy & wet most of the day. I did not work today on account of the weather. Charlie & I went out with the gun for a little while in the evening but did not get anything. Benney & Parks are repairing the new Bridge at the foot of D. St. Evening Sallie & I went to meeting another good meeting. Family pretty well. Saturday, January 4 Weather foggie but no rain today. I went to the building but was thought best not to work today. I am not very busy now but still have work on hand. I went out gunning for a little while this morning no game. Ross & Johnie Traynor & Charlie went with me. We had another good meeting this evening. Bro. Hildreth is still preaching for us. All well. Sunday, January 5 Weather cloudy but no rain. We were at Church & Sunday School all day. Afternoon Ella & I went to the Colored Baptist Church to here Bro. Hildreth had a good sermon. O that the good Lord may revive his work in our Harts & that siners may be converted to Christ. Family pretty well. Monday, January 6 Weather cloudy & wet. I did not work today on account of the appearance of rain but was busy trying raise about 50$ to pay up the balance of the taxes on the Church succeeded on getting about 45$ subscribed. We had a good meeting tonight. The Congregation is still increasing & also the interest we trust. Family well. Tuesday, January 7 Weather foggie but no rain. I worked this afternoon at Swain’s finishing up the yard wall on the Ally. We had a good meeting tonight 6 rose for prayers one of my Class Ross Trayner. O that may preshus Soles may be converted to God through our blessed Savior. Bro. Hildreth is still preaching. Family pretty well. Wednesday, January 8 Weather pleasant Except some fog most of the day. I commenced to finish up the jobing at the Knight’s worked there about all day. Evening again went to meeting. Sallie has been going with me most every night. Had a very good meeting again tonight. A good many stood up for prayers. May the good Lord revive his work. Bro. Bane was received tonight. Thursday, January 9 Weather pleasant. I worked all day at Mr. Knight’s will soon get through there. Our meetings still go on with a very good spirit manifested & great many was up tonight for prayers three of my Class. May the good Lord bless & save them & the remander of my Class. O that my hart mite be [--] up in the good work. All well. Friday, January 10 Weather cloudy but no rain today but the weather is not settled yet. I worked all day at Mr. Knight’s. The meetings are still maintained in our Church. Bro. Hildreth is still with us preaching ever night is getting very horse. About 16 rose tonight for the prayers of the Church some 4 or 5 men. May the good Lord continue to bless us with many additions to the Church. Saturday, January 11 Weather wet all day commenced to rain last night. I had an inside job which lasted until noon at the Knight’s. Afternoon went to prayer & conference meeting we had a very good meeting one admitted for Baptism Flora McCenon. Quite a number rose for prayers. May the good Lord bless them. Sunday, January 12 Weather pleasant. At Church & Sabbath School. Bro. Hildreth preached morning & evening. Three Baptised in the evening by Bro Fisher. We are haveing Glorius good meetings. We had a good time at Sunday School every Teacher spoke. One of my Class Baptised tonight Chas. Fisher. All well. Monday, January 13 Weather little cloudy but went to work at 9 this morning at Mr. Knight’s. At meeting at night. The good work still goes on and the good Lord is with us. But O how unworthy we all are. I know it is my case & I want to get nearer to God. Family well. Tuesday, January 14 Weather cool but clear today. Finished up the jobing at Mr. Knight’s. Another good meeting Church well filled. Wednesday, January 15 Weather pleasant. I have nothing to do at present and I feal glad of it. The interest still keeps up in our Church another good meeting this afternoon & tonight. Bro. Hildreth is still with us. I was on a jury all the afternoon in the case of Oster Smith he got clear. Thursday, January 16 Weather pleasant. I was idle again today. I appeared again today at Court but got excused for the balance of the time. At meeting afternoon & evening. The Lord is with his people blessed be his name. Friday, January 17 Weather quite pleasant. I was idle this morning except doing a little business for Mr. W. Patton, San Francisco. Afternoon I commenced a little job for Mr. Stanwood. Evening at meeting. We thought we have had one of the best meetings we have had tonight must have been 20 or 30 up. Saturday, January 18 Weather pleasant. I finished my job at Mr. Stanwood this morning. We had a splendid meeting this afternoon 6 was rec for Baptism. Mr. Brook, Ross Traner, Mr. Reed, Mr. Little, John Dinglas Sunday, January 19 Weather pleasant. We had splendid meetings today both in the Church & Sabbath School 9 were Baptised in the evening. May the good Lord carry on the good work. Monday, January 20 Weather pleasant. I am not very busy I am getting a little job ready to do for Mr. Shole. Our meetings are still kept up with considerable interest manifested. The good Lord is with us & that to bless. Family all well. Tuesday, January 21 Weather pleasant. I worked a while today at Sholes on the Ally but will have to stop until he gets ready. We are haveing good meetings our afternoon meetings is still kept up. Family well. Wednesday, January 22 Weather pleasant. Our Church appointed today as a day of fasting and prayer and was well observed as far as I could judge. I did not work today. Ella & Charley went forward this evening for prayers. May the good Lord help them and help them to understand what they are doing. Thursday, January 23 Weather quite pleasant. I did not work today work not ready, but will be soon. The interest still keeps up in our Church. Bro. Hildreth is still preaching for us. Family all well. Friday, January 24 Weather not very pleasant North wind & a little cool. I worked all day at home raiseing the floor in my Basement & makeing some other changes. Evening at Church not quite so many out tonight but a very good meeting. Family all well. Saturday, January 25 Weather quite pleasant today. I worked all day at home. The improvements I think will ad very much to the conveniance of the House. Family all well. Evening we were at Church good meeting but not as much interest manifested as this time last week. I hope the interest will be kept up. Lord carry on thine own work. Sunday, January 26 Weather pleasant. Preaching in the morning by Bro. Hildreth & also in the evening by the same man. We had a large attendance 7 more than we ever had before about 10 were Baptised this evening. Family all well. Monday, January 27 Weather pleasant cool in the morning. I worked all day at Mr. Sholes on the Alley. Evening at the Church the Rev. Mr. Hildreth preached again tonight but is going to Sacramento. May the good Lord go with him & bless him. Family all well. Tuesday, January 28 Weather pleasant. I worked all day same place. I expect to be very busy for a few weeks now. Bro. Fisher preached this evening the meeting was not so good tonight but I felt blessed thanks to the good Lord. Family all very well. Wednesday, January 29 Weather quite pleasant. I worked all day same place. We had a splendid meeting tonight. The first covenent meeting since the first converts came in & it done my hart good to here them speak for Jesus. Bro. Hyams lost his Babe it died this morning. Bro Hildreth’s babe is not expected to live. Had to come out today. Thursday, January 30 Weather cool & windy. I worked at Mr. Knight’s ¾ of today setting a Marble mantel then went back to Mr. Sholes. Evening we went to Church Mr. Hildreth preached. Not so many out but good meeting. Family all well. Friday, January 31 Weather cool & cloudy commenced to rain about noon. We had to stop work at about 3 in the afternoon. I then went home & worked in my Basement makeing Repairs, raiseing floors &co. We had no meeting tonight I worked until about 9 or 10 O’clock. Family all well. Saturday, February 1 Weather cloudy & wet all day. We are haveing just what the Ranchers want to insure a good crop next year. I worked all day at home & late again tonight. No meeting at our Church tonight. I presume the meetings will be discontinued for a while at least. I would liked to have had them continue longer. Sunday, February 2 Weather pleasant. At Church & Sabbath School as usual 4 were Baptised tonight. Family all well. Bro Hildreth is with us yet. Monday, February 3 Weather cloudy & wet part of the day. We worked at Mr. Sholes but had to stop in the evening on account of the rain. No meetings this week. Family all well. Tuesday, February 4 Weather wet all the afternoon but we worked until we finished the job or nearly so at Mr. Sholes. We both went home quite wet. Evening at home family quite well. Wednesday, February 5 Weather cloudy part of today & some rain. I started a job for Mr. Ellis at the Gingle Block. Bill Kerr & I worked there all day. Evening at home. I have quite a bad cold so I did not go to meeting tonight. Sallie went family all well. Thursday, February 6 Weather pleasant. We worked all day for Mr. W.T. Ellis same place. Evening I wrote to S.S. Spaulding family all well. Friday, February 7 Weather very pleasant all day. Bill Kerr & I worked all day at W.T. Ellis. Evening I wrote to J. F. Fordham, Chico. I have some notion of going up there and go in business with him, do not feal settled here no do not like to commence business here again family all well. Saturday, February 8 Weather quite wet all day but haveing inside work at Mr. W.T. Ellis. Bill Kerr & I worked all day. I am quite busy now jobing. I have a job at the Buckeye Mills setting 3 new Boilers. I expect to have to commence them next week. I am trying to be ready to go there when ready. I am working now on my own account. Family well. Sunday, February 9 Weather pleasant. At Church & Sabbath School as usual. One Baptised this eve. Bro. Fisher handed in his resignation this morning & the Church axcepted it. It takes effect the first of March next. I took no part in it. He was requested to do so by the officers of the Church only. Monday, February 10 Weather cool the rain don’t appear to be over yet. We worked all day at Mr. Ellis on second St opposite the Western House. Evening at home. I am sorry that we have no meetings at our Church now. Family all well. Tuesday, February 11 Weather pleasant. We worked all day at Mr. W.T. Ellis all day. Evening Sallie & I went to the M. E. Church they had a very good meeting, a good many forward for prayers. The new Presbyterian Minister just from Omaha preached there tonight. I liked him very much. Wednesday, February 12 Weather pleasant but a little cool. It rained last night. We worked all day at Mr. Ellis. Evening went to our prayer meeting we had no Minister to leed the meeting so Bro Barnes took the leed. Had a good meeting. Family all well. Thursday, February 13 Weather cool but clear. We worked all day at Mr. Ellis. I got through there for the present. We go tomorrow to do a job for Mr. Meeks for Swain & Hudson. Evening Sallie & I went to the M. E. Church same man Preached very good sermon. Am I My Brother’s Keeper. The Church was well filled & a good many went forward. Family all very well. Friday, February 14 Weather pleasant. I worked all day at Mr. Meek’s repairing a front fence, & arching over well & cementing side wall. Evening Charlie & I went to church at the M.E. Church. They are haveing a protracted meeting there & a great many are joining the church. The Rev. Mr. Rich is Pastor there now. Family are all very well. Saturday, February 15 Weather cloudy & it commenced to rain about noon. I got through at Mr. Meek’s about noon. We were idle in the afternoon. I am not very busy now until the job gets ready at the Buckeye Mills. Family all well. Sunday, February 16 Weather cool. At church morning & evening & at Sabbath school 12-30. Family all well. Monday, February 17 Weather cloudy & wet. I got Mr. Stone the Carpenter to help me with my work remodling my Basement. I am anxious to get it through with. Family all well. Tuesday, February 18 Weather very wet all day it snowed considerable last night. The roofs were quite white this morning. Stone & I worked all day on the repairs in the basement below. Family all well. Wednesday, February 19 Weather more pleasant. Stone & I worked all day same place. We got about through with the carpenters work. Evening went to prayer meeting good meeting & good attendance. Family all well. Thursday, February 20 Weather pleasant. I had to go to Mr. Knight’s to do a job today so I could not do much at home. Family all well. Friday, February 21 Weather quite pleasant. I finished at 3 this afternoon at Mr. Knight’s worked the balance of the day at home. Willie was not very well this eve. Saturday, February 22 Weather pleasant. I worked all day at home. Willie was unwell all day some fever. I feal very discouraged tonight. I have worked hard for the last 2 or 3 years and only or not quite made a living. I do not know what to do some times. I want to trust in the Lord. I know if I do it will be well for us. Sunday, February 23 Weather cool & windy in the afternoon. At Church & Sabbath School as usual 2 were Baptised this evening. Family all well. Monday, February 24 Weather cool. I started my job at the Buckeye Mills today setting 3 Boilers will be quite a job. Family well. Tuesday, February 25 Weather cool. We worked all day same place. Evening at home. I rec a letter from Bro. Jacob & one from Bro. James. Jacob wants me to come home & I think I will so write him. All well. Wednesday, February 26 Weather wet. I worked all day same place. Evening we went to prayer meeting & had a good meeting. We Ellected Bro. Eaton Collector & Bro. Brook Treasure. Bro. Barnes resigned. Thursday, February 27 Weather pleasant but cool. We worked all day same place. We all spent the evening at Bro. Fisher’s our Pastor & I spent a very pleasant evening. Family all well. Friday, February 28 Weather cool & wet part of the day. We worked all day at the Mills. Evening I wrote to Bro. Jacob that we would come home just as soon as we can sell out here in Marysville, Cal. I advertised my property today. Family all well. Saturday, March 1 Weather cool but no rain today. We worked all day same place. We have all the Boilers in there place. Family all well. Sunday, March 2 Weather pleasant. At church & Sabbath school as usual except evening I did not go to Church. The S.S. had a consert. Sallie & the Children went. I stayed home & took care of Maudie. Monday, March 3 Weather pleasant. We worked all day at the Buckeye Mills. Evening at home family well. Tuesday, March 4 Weather pleasant but cool in the morning with some frost. We worked all day at the Buckeye Mills. Evening at home. Family well. Wednesday, March 5 Weather cloudy & commenced to rain about 2 PM. We had to stop work I worked at same place. Afternoon I whitewashed the Dineing Room. Everning I went to prayer meeting. Bro. Fisher is stoping with us for a while. Thursday, March 6 Weather turned out to be pleasant alltho it looked very much like rain. We worked all day however at the Mills. Evening at home. Family all well except Willie he is not very well & has not been for a day or two. Friday, March 7 Weather pleasant. We worked all day at the Mills. Evening I rec a letter from Bro. Sam they think it best for me to go home. I think I will provideing I can sell out. Willie not very well. Saturday, March 8 Weather pleasant. We worked all day at the Mills. They raised the large Stack today 4 feet in diameter 80 feet high. Family pretty well this evening. Sunday, March 9 Weather pleasant. At Church & Sabbath School as usual. Sallie went to Church with me in the evening. Family all well. Monday, March 10 Weather pleasant. We worked all day at the Buckeye Mills. Evening at home. Family well. Tuesday, March 11 Weather pleasant. We worked all day same place. We are most through there. Family all well. Wednesday, March 12 Weather pleasant. We finished all we could do at present at the Buckeye Mills. Went back to Mr. W.T. Ellis at 9 this morning to finished up my work there. Evening went to prayer meeting good meeting. Family pretty well. Thursday, March 13 Weather pleasant. I worked at W.T. Ellis until 3 this afternoon. I was busy the balance of the day settling up with Swain & Hudson & also with Mr. Shole. I want to raise a little money to go to San Francisco tomorrow to get a Marble mantle for my self. I am fixing up to sell as I expect we will have to return home as son as we can get off. All well. Friday, March 14 Weather cool. I was busy all the morning getting ready to go to San Francisco to get a Marble mantle for our front room. Charlie went with me. We started about 11 this morning & went by way of Sacramento & Stockton arriveing at San Francisco about 9 in the evening. We stoped at the What Cheer House. We found it quite cool at the Bay. We left all well. Saturday, March 15 Weather cool & windy. I attended to my business this morning got a very good Mantle with grate & Statuary marble for 76.50. I met some old acquaintances. We spent quite a while at Woodard’s Garden. Charlie was very much pleased with the place. We walked a great deal about the city. Charlie was anxious to see all he could while here. Sunday, March 16 Weather a little cloudy this morning rained last night and a little this morning. I was quite unwell all day. We took a walk before Church time over the hills around to North beach & from there to 1st Baptist Church & hered a good sermon. After Church we took another walk to the long bridge. Evening went to the same Church 2 was Baptized. Monday, March 17 Weather cool. We started for home this morning same way we came down had a very pleasant trip arriveing at 5 in the evening. Found the family all well and glad to see us. Will have to go to work in the morning to W.T. Ellis to finish up some work there. Evening at home. Bro. Fisher is stoping with us his family gone home. Tuesday, March 18 Weather quite windy. North wind not very pleasant. I worked all day at Mr. Ellis setting Marble Mantles. Evening at home family all well. I have had no offers for my house yet. Expect will have to sell it at oxion. Work is very dull now but I still have some jobs on hand. Wednesday, March 19 Weather more pleasant & quite warm in the middle of the day. I worked all day same place. Evening I went to see Col. Hatch as he is in town from Collusa. He renewed his Note principal & interest amounts to 500$. Gave me 2 Notes due Sept 1st & December next. Also went to prayer meeting very good meeting family all well. Thursday, March 20 Weather pleasant except warm. I worked all day for the same man. I think I will get through there for the present. I am not very busy now. Evening at home. At this time I am alone with Maudie & she is laying on the flore asleap. Sallie is next door visiting. Ella has gone to a party Past-Master Ealerman(?) & Charlie has gone after her. Now it is getting late. Friday, March 21 Weather quite pleasant all day. I worked all day at Mr. Ellis most through there for the present. W.C. Swain was after me to do some work for them but I have made up my mind to sell out & go away from Marysville. Probably go East, back to Hood’s Mill probably. Family all very well. The Rev. Mr. Peat stoped with us today. I bought a book of Him. Saturday, March 22 Weather quite pleasant. I worked all day at Mr. W.T. Ellis. I am most through there for the present. I am giveing up work I want to get ready & return Home, thinking that to be the best thing that I can do. I am not makeing anything here above a liveing I rec a letter last eve from Bro. Jacob. Sunday, March 23 Weather pleasant. At Church & Sabbath School as usual. The Rev. J.B. Peat Preached in the evening. Text which hope we have as an anchor to the soul. Family all well. Monday, March 24 Weather pleasant. I worked ½ Day at W.T. Ellis. Afternoon I commenced to set a Marble mantle for my self in our house. It costed me in San Francisco 67.50. It is quite a nice mantle. I am fixing up to sell as we will have to return East as soon as we can get off. Family all well. Tuesday, March 25 Weather pleasant. I worked all day at home setting my Mantle. Evening Bro. Fisher & I walked over to Yuba City to meeting very good meeting. We walked over & back. Family all well. Wednesday, March 26 Weather pleasant. I put down our front sidewalk this forenoon. Afternoon I finished up my job at the Buckeye Mills. Will have to go to Mr. Ellis in the morning. Evening went to a Business at our Church to Ellect Trustees, 7 trustees was elected. Family all well. Thursday, March 27 Weather pleasant. I worked all day at Mr. Ellis. I am most through there. I am anxious to get my property sold so we can return East. Family all well evening at home. Friday, March 28 Weather pleasant. I finished at W.T. Ellis this morning & worked about home in the afternoon fixing up. Family all well. Saturday, March 29 Weather quite pleasant. I worked about home all day fixing up to sell. I feal anxious now to get off just as soon as I can with the intention of going back to the Mills. I expect I will have to sell out at auction as I have no callers yet & has been advertised for the last Month. I think I will try it in a week or so. Family all well. Sunday, March 30 Weather pleasant. At Church morning & evening & Sunday School after the morning service. Today is the Rev. Mr. fisher’s last day with us as the church has called another Minister a Rev. Mr. Gage of Kansas Bro. Fisher haveing resigned some time ago. In the afternoon Bro. Fisher preached for the new Church just organized in Yuba City with 13 members. Bro. R. Bayne Deacon Monday, March 31 Weather pleasant. I worked all day at home cleaning house. I am trying to get ready for the Sale which I expect will take place in a week or so as I have determined to sell at auction or try to do so as I expect I will have to return home to Hood’s Mill but I prefer to remain in this country & get in the stock business. Family all well. Tuesday, April 1 Weather pleasant a little cool. I am still working about the house. Messers Swain & Hudson has some work that they want me to do & I will try & do it for them if I have time. Family all well. Wednesday, April 2 Weather pleasant. I am still busy at home. Mr. Ripley commenced to whitening today the upper rooms in the main part of the house. Family all well. Thursday, April 3 Weather cool with frosty nights. I am still working about home I am not fealing very well. I went to see about setting a Range at the Globe Hotel expect to commence it in the morning. Family well. Friday, April 4 Weather cool frost again last night it rained & snowed some this afternoon & it was while we were going to the grave Yard attending the funreal of Bro. Cummings of the firm of Boon & Cummings (Masonic Bro). I was not very well today so I did not go to work as I expected yesterday. Evening at home family all well except my self. Saturday, April 5 Weather pleasant but we had frost again last night. I started the range at the Globe today and worked there all day. Family well. I am fealing a little better today. I felt so unsettled here of late I think is partly the cause. Sunday, April 6 Weather pleasant. Our new Minister preached for us today for the first time. I think that He is very well liked by the Congregation. In the evening the Sunday School had a concert & it was quite a success. The Church was crowded & took in about 36$. Family well. Monday, April 7 Weather pleasant. I worked all day at the Globe hotel setting a Range & some other work about it. I am quite busy at present. Swain & Hudson wants me to do some work for them as soon as I can. Family all well. My property came out today in the Marysville Appeal for Sale at auction next Tuesday morning at 11. Tuesday, April 8 Weather pleasant. I finished at the Globe hotel at or about 3 this afternoon. I went to work then for Swain & Hudson at the Mechanic House raising a story on part of it for the owner Mr. Peat. Evening at home family all well. Wednesday, April 9 Weather pleasant. I worked all day at the Mechanic House for Swain & Hudson. Evening went to prayer meeting our Pastor was away tonight. Family well. Thursday, April 10 Weather pleasant. I worked all day same place. Family all well I am fealing very well now. Friday, April 11 Weather pleasant quite warm part of the day. I am working at the same place. Family all well. Saturday, April 12 Weather quite pleasant today cooler than yesterday. We got the story up & commenced on the fire walls, got the back wall up & am anxious to get through as soon as posible as I have some work to do for W.T. Ellis & my sale comes off next Tuesday. Family all well. Sunday, April 13 Weather pleasant except North wind. At Church & Sabbath School. The Rev M. D. Gage preached morning. All appear to like him very much. Family all well. Monday, April 14 Weather pleasant. I worked all day for S&H at Mr. Peat finished there. I am busy now all my spare moments getting ready for my sale which is to come off tomorrow. All well. Tuesday, April 15 Weather pleasant. Our Sail came off at 10 this morning. All my Real Estate was sold but went very low. Family well. Wednesday, April 16 Weather pleasant. I worked all day for W.T. Ellis setting a Marble Mantle & doing some other work. Evening went to prayer meeting very good meeting. Family all well. Thursday, April 17 Weather pleasant. I worked all day same place. I am trying to get my work that I have on hand through with. I am expecting to be able to get off home about next week. Family all well. Friday, April 18 Weather quite pleasant. I finished at Mr. Ellis at 9 this morning. Went from there to Mr. Meek’s to build a fireplace in one of his back Rooms. All well. Saturday, April 19 Weather quite pleasant. I got through at Meek’s about 9 this morning & was busy the balance of the day setting up & paying off Bills got along very well. Got a Note of Mr. Westernhaur for the balance due 15$ payable 90 days. Also sold Col. Hatch’s Note of 500$ to E.C. Ross for 30$. Family well. Sunday, April 20 Weather cloudy & wet the afterpart of the day just what is very much needed. At Church morning & evening. Afternoon we went over to Yuba City Bro. Gage preached for the little Baptist Church there. Not many out bad weather. Family well. Monday, April 21 Weather quite pleasant after the rain. I was busy busy (sic) all day setting up [--]. Mr. Shole paid me for the House & I gave the Deed. I am trying to be ready to start East next Thursday. Our Sail comes off Wednesday morning. Family well. Tuesday, April 22 Weather quite pleasant. I was attending to my business all day getting ready just as soon as posible. Sail of the house hole furnerture comes off tomorrow. Family all well. We sold our sewing machinme today for 75$ would have shiped it East if not sold for that. Wednesday, April 23 Weather quite pleasant. Our sail came off commenced about eleven o’ clock this morning. It appeared to get enough together to commence the sail. It was called 10 o’clock but got through with it about as well as I expected if not better. Some things we bought in our selves & Boxed them up to be shiped East. I was very busy the remainder of the day boxing up & getting ready to start East in the morning. All well. Thursday, April 24 Weather very pleasant. We got through with packing & I settled up with every body & bought our tickets for Chicago & left on the eleven o’clock train for Rose Junction. Quite a number of our friends came to see us off. Arrived at the Junction about 12-30. The overland train leaves the junction at 3 afternoon. We are now waiting at the same place for that purpose. Price of tickets to Chicago 413$. Friday, April 25 Weather quite pleasant. We left rose junction about 3 yesterday afternoon traveled all night pased over the summit about midnight. We found it very cold there plenty of snow. We did not sleep very well being the first night out but done very well in that line. All well. We struck the Humbolt early this morning. Saturday, April 26 Weather very pleasant. We are getting along finely makeing good time with no axidents. We left the Humbolt Valley last night no snow in the Valley but plenty on the Mountains. Family all well. We arrived at Ogden about 8 this morning changed cars there. Sunday, April 27 Weather pleasant. We are geting along finely all in the trane appears well. We travel night & day. We arrived at Sidney on the Rockey Mountains at 4-30 took supper there. My family all appears to get along very well. Monday, April 28 Weather continues very pleasant. We arrived Omaha about Noon. Crossed the River & took trane for Chicago at Council Bluffs about 2 California time. All well. Came by the Burlington & Quincy R.R. to Omaha. Tuesday, April 29 Weather continues very pleasant. We came along very pleasantly all night and all day. We arrived at Chicago 515 today eve only stoped there long enough to make the change about ½ hour. I there bought through tickets to Balto. By way of Cleveland. Erie & Harrisburgh single fare 19$ Wednesday, April 30 Weather pleasant. No rain since we left Cal. We are getting along finely arrived at Erie about noon today there we had to change cars to Harrisburgh about 15 hours time. Expect to arrive at the latter place about 3 o’clock tomorrow morning. Thursday, May 1 Weather pleasant but a little cool & cloudy. We arrived at Harrisburgh about 3 this morning there had to lay over until 6 o;clock. At that hour we took the fast line for Balto. Arrived Balto about 10 morning. We got a Hack and went to Lisabeth McDonald’s. We brought Mother there & all the family well & glad to see us. All well.. Friday, May 2 Weather cloudy & wet most of the day. Charlie & I went out to the Mill last eve found the folks all well and things looking about as well as I expected. The business in the Mill has fell off considerable which I am very sorry to see. I am thinking of taking holt of the Mills alone Jacob the Store. Saturday, May 3 Weather continues cloudy & wet. I came in from the Mills yesterday evening left Charlie there. Spent most of the day calling on my friends found them all well. Maudie our Babe is quite unwell has fever & a rash all over her hope it is nothing serious. I do not know what I will do yet. Sunday, May 4 Weather pleasant but a little warm. I went to Dr. Fuller’s Church this morning. He is now in the new Church. It is a very fine Church & well filled. Text- Luke 23 chapter & part of the 34 verse. Father forgive them for they know not what they do. I was as I always have been very much pleased with the Dr. I took Dinner with Bro. James & came over with me to see Sallie & the children. Maudie is quite sick today. Monday, May 5 Weather pleasant. I went out to Mt. Pleasant to see Dr. J. S. Bowen dined with his family & came in on the 2 o’clock train. I am stoping in Balto. For few days to see my Gold offered 116 ¾ today did not think it best to sell. Sallie & the Children except Charlie are stoping with her sister Lizie. I want to get up to the Mills just as soon as I can. Tuesday, May 6 Weather pleasant. I was about town all day. Sold my Gold at 117 1/8 . The amount I had to sell 198525. Will have to wait as the draft was on a New York Bank about Thursday. I then expect to go out to the Mills in view of makeing arrangements to return there & go in business again. Maud is quite sick the Dr. has been to see her since Sunday the rest are all well. Wednesday, May 7 Weather cloudy & wet all day. I took a ride in the st. cars uptown to look about & while away the City improveing very fast made a few calls on my friends. I feal very anxious to get to doing something as soon as posible & I pray that the good Lord may gide me. Maud is as we think something better today. Thursday, May 8 Weather very wet & unpleasant all day. I was thinking of going up to the Mills this evening but was so wet all day I thought it best to defer the matter. Sallie & all the children are still stoping at Mrs. Mcdonald’s. I feal anxious to get up to the Mills & get to House Keeping. Maud is getting better. Friday, May 9 Weather more pleasant today. I went to see again today if my freight had arrived from Cal. No answer yet. Evening went up to the Mills found Charlie well & glad to see me. Jacob’s family are all well as are Sister’s. times appear very dull. Farmers complaining of too much rain cannot plough. Saturday, May 10 Weather very pleasant. I am at the Mills this morning trying to arrange matters to return here as soon as posible as I know of nothing better to get at with out I could sell out my interest in the Mill property and that appears to be out of the question at present. Will have to go back & do the best I can with a hope of future success. I returned to Balto. This evening. Sunday, May 11 Weather cloudy & wet part of today. I spent the day at Bro. Jas. I went to Bro. Fuller’s Church morning & evening. Two children were Baptised in the evening one 10 and 0ne 13 a little boy & girl a beautifull sight. I returned home in the evening. Maud is getting very well the rest of us are very well. Monday, May 12 Weather cool but pleasant. I have been arround tending to some little business all the morning except to go up to the Mills this evening. Our freight have not arrived yet. I went up to the Mill this evening found all well. I am trying to make arrangements to move up as soon as Selby vakets, will do so soon. Tuesday, May 13 Weather pleasant. I am now spending a day or so at the Mills. Selby expects to give up the House just as soon as he gets a House to move in. Expects to get the Brian’s House. Things look rather dull about the Mill but I am in hopes they will get better if there is an effort made to get back trade. All well. Wednesday, May 14 Weather pleasant. I am at the Mill this morning wateing for an answer from Selby. First thing I want is to get the House so I can have a place to live. Selby made arrangements to take Brian’s House & will move the first of next week. I returned to Balto. This week to get things to get to house keeping. Found family well. Thursday, May 15 Weather pleasant. Sallie was out all the morning getting furniture for our new home. In the forenoon I bought a Bill of timber for front porch fensing & lumber for forebay old one about roten out. As we returned to Lizie’s in the evening we stoped to see Mr. Slicer. He is quite sick in bed. Friday, May 16 Weather cloudy & has the appearance of rain but quite warm. Sallie was out all the morning finishing buying our furniture &co. We are only getting what we most need & cannot do without. I feal anxious to get to work at the Mill to be making something. Saturday, May 17 Weather continues about the same. I did not have much to do today was about town all day. Went to see if our things had arrived yet. They are not come yet we cannot get to house keeping very well until they come as all pretty nearly of our beding was boxed & sent by slow freight. Family well. Charlie is out at his Uncle Jacob’s. Sunday, May 18 Weather quite pleasant. I went to the 7th Baptist Church & Sunday School this morning. They have a very fine Sabbath School nearly 400 present. I spent most of the day with Bro. James. Evening Sallie, Lizzie & I went to Jackson Square M.E. Church. Family all well. I want to go out to the Mill in the morning. Monday, May 19 Weather pleasant. I went out to the Mill in the morning trane found Charlie well & glad to see me. Jacob’s family are all well. Selby is getting ready to move but will continue to run the Mill. I want the House so we can get to house keeping. I could not do much today. Tuesday, May 20 Weather very wet all day. Jacob & I got out the post for the front porch. I am getting posts cut to fence in the front yard & garden. I will have a great deal of fixing to do to get things in shape & fixed up. I want to get things fixed up pretty well at as little expence as posible Wednesday, May 21 Weather continues wet. I commenced at the House today. Tore down the old kitchen chimney & fire place was very large and clumsey old thing just in the way. Had a flue on the opposite side of the room had to cut a stove pipe hole through a thick stone wall but I done it but with some trouble. Thursday, May 22 Weather wet. I worked about the Selby House all day I find a great deal of work to do before we get ready to move in, plastering, whitewashing, front porch, fencing, stable, Dary and many other things to do. I am not fealing very well. Sallie & all except Charlie & I are at her sister’s on Pratt St. Friday, May 23 Weather more pleasant today but very warm. I worked all day on the House laying off post holes. Marion & John Wagner are helping me. I want to get the place fenced in and the inside of the place fixed so we can get to House Keeping. I think I will go in town tomorrow eve, see my family. Saturday, May 24 Weather quite pleasant but warm. I worked until nearly 4 about the place. Marion & John are diging the post holes. I got them all lade off. Charlie is not very well I bought him in town with me. He wants to see Ma he appears to have a bad cold. We found our dear family all well & glad to see us. Sunday, May 25 Weather pleasant. I went up to Dr. Fuller’s Church. Got up in time to stop in the Sunday School. They have a very fine School. The Dr. did not preach today. His pulpit was filled by a Presbyterian Minister. I like him very well. I took dinner with Bro. James. Got back home time enough to walk out to Patterson Park with Ch. Monday, May 26 Weather pleasant. I did not go in the Country today. I stayed in to go with Sallie to see Dr. Fuller. We saw him at the Church. We had a very pleasant [--]. The Dr. is looking very well. We expect to connect ourselves with his Church. I expect to go out again to the Mills in the morning. Family well. Tuesday, May 27 Weather pleasant. I went out to the Mills again started in the 8 o’clock train. I left Charlie with his Mother. He is not very well. I go out every week to get the House ready to move in and I am getting very anxious to get to house Keeping as soon as posible. I worked all day at the house rained in the evening. Wednesday, May 28 Weather pleasant. I worked all day about the house. I am Bricklayer, Carpenter, plaster, stone mason and painter. I want to get my family up next week if posible I feal lonely being away from them. Thursday, May 29 Weather warm but pleasant. I worked all day on my House getting ready to move in. I find I have a great deal to do to make it comfortable. I have but little help and I don’t appear to get along very fast. I want to go back to Balto. Again the last of this week. Friday, May 30 Weather pleasant in the forenoon had a very good rain in the evening. I worked all day on the House I have the floor of the front porch finished. I have been painting most all day today. I got Davie Gosnell to work in the garden. I don’t have much time to work there. Saturday, May 31 Weather quite pleasant. I worked until nearly 4 this afternoon then went to Balto. Found my family all well. I stoped on the platform of the B&O R.R. as I came in to look for my freight to come from Cal. I found it on the platform just 37 days since I shiped it. I found my family all well & glad to see me. Sunday, June 1 Weather quite pleasant. Sallie, Charlie, Willie & I went to Dr. Fuller’s Church this morning from there we went to the Gees stayed to Dinner. Called to see Bro. James family then returned to our home for the present at Sallie’s sister Lizzie McDonald. Monday, June 2 Weather pleasant. I was busy all the forenoon getting things to take up to the Mills. I made arraingements with Sallie to come up Wednesday next. Charlie & I went up on the 5 o’clock train. It was late when we arrived but I went to work fixing up. I have a great deal to do. We are going in the Selby House Tuesday, June 3 Weather warm. Charlie & I & Mrs. Rubottom worked all day putting down carpets cleaning up &co. all day. I am trying to get things as comfortable for my family as I can. Wednesday, June 4 Weather warm. Charlie & I worked all day & got things in pretty good shape before Sallie & the Children came up they arrived this evening. We all took tea with Jacob’s family then we went up to our own House. Sallie thought I done very well in house fixing. Family all well thanks to the good Lord. Thursday, June 5 Weather pleasant but quite warm part of the day. We took our first meal in our new home this morning. D…?… came up with my family & she appears to do very well. I worked all day on the front fence Charlie helped me. We have had several callers from our neighbors. We find it pleasant to have them call. Friday, June 6 Weather quite warm. Charlie & I worked all day on the front fence got along finely but worked very hard. Charlie was considerable help to me. Selby gave up the Mills so I lernt today. I expect Jacob & I will work the business together I so sugested to him this eve & He consented. Family all well. Saturday, June 7 Weather not quite so warm today. Charlie helped me again all day on the yard fence. John & Marion worked all day setting post. I feal anxious to get the place enclosed. If I have time I will make a very fine place of it before I quit. Family all well & appear to be well pleased with the new home. Sunday, June 8 Weather pleasant. We had Sunday School this morning at Watson Chapple the first I believe this season. Bro. Jacob is Superintendent. Preaching same place in the afternoon by a young man gave us a very good sermon. Sallie went up with us. Family all well. Monday, June 9 Weather pleasant. I worked all day again on my fence. I am fenceing about one acre & square as I could get it about the House [--] the garden on the East side of the house & occupying about one half of the enclosure devideing it by fence running up through the center of it. All well. Tuesday, June 10 Weather cloudy & wet half of today but I & Charlie managed to get in a pretty good work. We worked on the divition fence all day got it up as far as the gate about 13 panels. I feal anxious to get through so I can do something about the Mills. Family all very well. Wednesday, June 11 Weather wet most all day. We worked on the West fence all day today got about 13 pannels up. John Wagner helped me some today. Brought most of the material on the ground. Late in the evening Jacob & I hung the front gate. Sadie, Jacob’s oldest Daughter is quite unwell. My family are quite well. Thursday, June 12 Weather pleasant. Charlie & I are still working at the fence. John Wagner is helping us most of his time. He is fixing up the garden. He planted out 100 Cabbage plants today. He is fixing up the garden very nice. Family all well except Maud her eye & nose is still very sore. They all appear very well pleased with there new home. Friday, June 13 Weather pleasant. I finished up the garden fence. I have it all pretty well enclosed now except about one half of the North fence. John is still helping me. He worked in the garden all day makeing it look very nice. The Cow I bought of Mr. Selby is giveing excellent satisfaction. We have all the Milk & butter we can use. Saturday, June 14 Weather has been very pleasant today a little hasey & late this evening it is raining a little & has the appearance of rain. John Wagner helped me all day today. We have the fence pretty nearly finished. John planted out 31 tomato plants this evening. The garden is looking very well since John to do work at it.(sic) Family all well. Sunday, June 15 Weather cloudy & rained some. We had no Sunday School today on that account and no preaching. I was about home all day. Family all well except Maud. Her face is very sore yet & she appears to suffer very much from it. I miss our Church very much & Sabbath School.. Monday, June 16 Weather quite warm today. I started to put up my front Porch today. John Wagner is still working for me. He commenced to get the foundation ready for my Dary. Family all well except Maud she has quite a time with her face & eyes. Tuesday, June 17 Weather very warm. I worked all day on the front porch & John on the foundation for the dary. Family the same. I rec a letter from Bro. Fisher today. He says times is very dull in Marysville. He is at home Santa Clary Cal. Wednesday, June 18 Weather warm. I finished the front porch & plastered the sealing. It is about finished now except painting. John finished the stone foundation for the Dary. Family the same. Thursday, June 19 Weather continues quite warm & dry. We want rain very much. John & I commenced to tare down & build our new dary today. Got along very well got the frame up & roof on & some of the sideing on. We have splendid water. Family all well. Friday, June 20 Weather warm but not quite so warm as it was yesterday. I finished the dary (except paveing the flore). John went to whitewashing the fenceing today. Mrs. Ellison & sister Eliza spent the evening with us. Last night was very warm I could scarcely sleep. Family the same. Saturday, June 21 Weather not so warm today. I worked about the Dary about all day. John is still at the whitewashing I am getting anxious to get to doing something. I ought to be about the Mills I think but there is but very little to do. Wheat is very scarce none in the Mill. Jacob sent up the rode for flour today. Sunday, June 22 Weather warm through the middle of the day but the morn & eve was quite pleasant. We had Sunday School in the morning & preaching in the afternoon 3 O’clock. The remainder of the day I spent at home. Family well. Monday, June 23 Weather warm but cloudy in the morning. John, George, Marion & I got the Privy out of the dich at the house where Jacob is liveing. We had quite a time getting it up. It is the second time I have been ingaged getting it out. I also moved the one where I am liveing and made a door for it. Family well. Tuesday, June 24 Weather cloudy & wet part of today it rained some last night. We want rain now very bad. Charlie & I raised the floor & commenced the repares on the Parlor of our House found that it needed it very bad. Family well. John did not work today too wet. He is whitewashing now. Wednesday, June 25 Weather rather changeable cloudy most of the day but very little rain, rained some last night. I finished the floor & whitewashed the Parlor today & done some other jobing about. I want to go to Balto. tomorrow to get some things for the House. Family all well. Thursday, June 26 Weather pleasant. Sallie & I went to Balto today to get some things for the House some things for the Parlor & a Bed Room set & some things for the children. It kept us quite busy all day. Arrived home in the evening found the children all well. Friday, June 27 Weather warm but not as warm as it has been. I worked about home painting most of the time. Some of our things came up this morning but not all. We will soon be fixed up now so we can live quite comfortable. We have not quite house room enough. Family all well. Saturday, June 28 Weather close all morning & a little cloudy. I was painting part of the forenoon I painted the front porch where Jacob is liveing. When the Way train came up with the balance of our goods I stoped and went to work there. We fixed up the Parlor & our room. All well. Sunday, June 29 Weather showery all day. We had no Sunday School today. About home all day except in the evening I went down to Jacob’s. Family well. Monday, June 30 Weather warm. I am still working about home. Except for a little while I was painting at Jacob’s. We had quite a shower in the morning. I commenced to make two gates this evening. Family all pretty well. Tuesday, July 1 Weather very warm. I finished & hung 2 gates today one at the entrance of David Gosnell’s and one to my chicken yard. I am getting things fixed up about now pretty well. Everybody thinks or appears to think that the place don’t look like the same. Charlie is a great help to me. Wednesday, July 2 Weather very warm all day. Charlie & I moved the Hen house we done it alone & then commenced to get ready to put up the North side of the Garden. I found it very warm & close. Family all well. Thursday, July 3 Weather quite warm had a Gust in the evening but not much rain fell about here. I felt quite unwell all day took about 12 g. Blue Mass, think I have been working too hard. Family pretty well. Charlie & I finished the Railings today. Friday, July 4 Weather quite warm. Today being a Holaday I did not do very much. We moved the Privey at the upper corner of the Garden that is about the most I done today. I did expect to settle up with Selby but the stock not being taken we had to pospone it until tomorrow. Saturday, July 5 Weather quite warm all day & a little cloudy. I worked about hoeing the garden painting the windows outside & the [--] & fixing up the walk to the spring & some other little matters. Ella & Willie is not very well today. The rest of us are all pretty well. Sunday, July 6 Weather pleasant. We had Sunday School today & at 1-30 has preaching by the Rev. Mr. Th..?.. Jacob & I called past to see Mr. Waters, Mrs. Waters is quite sick. Some of our family are not well. Monday, July 7 Weather quite pleasant. I did not do much today. I am trying to get a settlement with Selby & also with Jacob before I commence business here again. I expected to have had a settlement last Saturday but things was not ready & postponed until Tuesday next. Tuesday, July 8 Weather cloudy & wet most all the afternoon. Selby did not come today so we had no settlement & I do not feal like doing anything now until things are settled up. Ella is quite unwell fever. Wednesday, July 9 Weather hazy and not so hot. Selby did not come so I was idle again all day. Saw Mrs. Selby said he would be down this week sometime. The cars ran over a Cow of John Mercer’s just above the Dam about 9 ½ this evening tore her all to pieces. Ella is something better today. Thursday, July 10 Weather cloudy most of the day & it rained a little in the afternoon. I spaded up a pach for Cucumbers & planted them today about 50 hills. I am still laying on my ores wateing for a settlement but Jacob is attending to Store & Mill both. I expect in a few days to get to doing something. Friday, July 11 Weather quite pleasant today a little cloudy. I did a little job about home put a stick under the door to make it longer. Afternoon Selby & I commenced our settlement got along very agreeably. Ella is still unwell but appears better the rest of the family are very well. Saturday, July 12 Weather quite pleasant good breeze & a little cloudy. I was at the Mills all day helping. I expect to take charge there next week, Jacob the store. Selby was down all day settling up with Jacob & I was in hopes that by the first of next week we will be able to have a final settlement. Ella is still quite unwell. Sunday, July 13 Weather warm. We had Sunday School as usual in the morning and no preaching today. We only have preaching once in two weeks. I was at home the balance of the day. Ella is still quite unwell. The Dr. came to see her this afternoon. All the rest of the family are well. Monday, July 14 Weather warm. I worked about the Mills all day. Mr. Beam & I sawed a log for a sill in the Husk in the Merchant Mill and went to work to put it in. I see a great deal of work to do before we can do much of grinding in that Mill. Ella is still quite unwell. Tuesday, July 15 Weather quite warm but we had quite a shower in the evening & it was very much needed. We worked all day in the Mill got the large sill in made a good job of it. We had some grinding to do today in the Country Mill. Ella is still unwell. Wednesday, July 16 Weather quite warm all day. I worked in the Mill all day about the lower flore, about the Husk & shoreing up the flore. Got about through with that part of the Mill. We will have to put a new flore in as soon as we can. Ella a little better. Thursday, July 17 Weather very warm had a gust in the evening. I commenced on the Gainer over the Burrs to repare them up & clean out the wheat & dust under them. Got out about 39 Bushels of wheat & dust & fixed it so it can be kept clean in the future. Ella is better thanks to the good Lord. Friday, July 18 Weather continues quite warm. We worked all day about the Mills cleaning up & repareing. We are trying to see what we can do with the wheat we got out from under the gainer it has a very bad smell, will make chicken feed. Family all well. Saturday, July 19 We cleaned over that old wheat today & ground some to see what we can do with it. Sallie tried it & found it wont do for flour. We was very busy in the Country Mill today. We bought some corn from Mr. Stricker will bring some more next Monday. Family all well. Sunday, July 20 Weather warm. We had Church & Sabbath School today. Ella is something better. Monday, July 21 Weather warm. We were quite busy all day in the Mill. We are haveing some corn comeing in paying 3.75 per Bll & 3.25 for yellow. Ella is getting along very well can get about the house. I have no one with me in the Mills but Joseph Beam. Tuesday, July 22 Weather warm but not so warm as it has been. The balance of the corn came in today & settle for it rec from Stricker. Mother & Mollie & two of the children came up to see us yesterday. Mollie returned in the eve. Mother is still with us. Wednesday, July 23 Weather warm. I worked all day shelling corn. Charlie helped me got it all shelled. We have now about 117 Bus in the mill. No wheat comeing in yet. We are buying our flour up country. Family all pretty well. We had an order of W. Cleary today of 500 corn meal. Thursday, July 24 Weather warm. We were busy all day leveling up the two Burrs in the Merchant Mill we are nearly ready to run. The Country Mill ran all day on corn Meal. Maggie is not very well. Mother is still with us. Friday, July 25 Weather warm. We finished leveling up the Bed Stone in the Mech Mill & commenced to grind some midlings that was on hand. The Mill ran very well. No wheat comeing in yet. Family all pretty well except Maggie. Saturday, July 26 Weather warm. We had quite a good shower in the evening. We were quite busy all day in the Mills, had Mech & Country Mills both running part of today. I have no one but Mr. Beam helping me in the Mills. We have a great deal of cleaning up to do. Family pretty well except Maggie. Sunday, July 27 Weather quite warm. We had Sabbath School in the morning the superintendent not being able to be present I tried to fill his place. We had a very good school. We had quite a heavy shower in the evening. Family all pretty well. Dr. Morehead came to see Maggie. Monday, July 28 Weather cloudy and we had quite a heavy rain in the evening. Mr. Beam & I were quite busy in the morning cleaning up the [--] Room. We did not grind any today. Had an order of Gary for 10 Blls flour but we could not fill it at present. Family all pretty well. Tuesday, July 29 Weather warm had a gust in the evening very nice little shower. We had a load of wheat of 51 Bus. the first this season or since I have been in the Mills brought by A. Liesher paid 1.60 for it very good wheat. I am in hopes that we can keep going. Family pretty well. Wednesday, July 30 Weather warm. H. A. Peddicord brought a load of wheat 79 Bus paid 1.60 a little better wheat than Liser red wheat no white comeing in yet. We ground in the Mech Mill all day ran one Burr only. Family all pretty well. Thursday, July 31 Weather warm. H.A. Peddicord brought another load of red wheat 93 Bus paid 157 ½ . Wheat is comeing down some. I priced one or two samples at the same. We ran two run of stone this afternoon. We backed 11 Bbl flour today. I sold one bbl to Jacob Fifer for 9.50. Friday, August 1 Weather quite warm rained in the evening. Another load of wheat came in today. We ran two runs of Burrs all day in the Merchant Mill & also ran the Country Mill part of the afternoon. Things in the Mill go along very well as far as I can see. J. F. Beam appears to get along very well. Saturday, August 2 Weather quite warm. We ran full up in the [--] Mill all day. We are running now until about 10 at night. Mr. Beam has been just two Months with us today at 15$ per Month & board but wants more wages while we are busy. We are all well. Maude, Louis Slicer & Lizie Gees came up tonight to see us. Sunday, August 3 Weather weather (sic) quite warm. At Sabbath School in the morning on account of rain in the afternoon we had no Preaching. Uncle Louis Slicer spent the Sabbath with us he is not very well. My family are all pretty well at present. Monday, August 4 Weather warm. We done some sawing in the morning for Capt. Mercer, when finished went to grinding in the M. Mill. Uncle Louis went home this morning. Lizie is stoping a while with us. Family all well. Tuesday, August 5 Weather warm but not so warm this week as last so far. No wheat comeing in this week as yet. I would rather it would not as we are pretty well supplied with flour for the local trade & the supposition is that wheat will come down in a week or so. Family all well. Wednesday, August 6 Weather pleasant. We ground over the Midlings today. We were not very busy today although we kept going. Had an order from Watsonville for 400 corn Meal for 1.80. That is our whole sale price for Meal. Will send it up tomorrow morning. I sowed my turnips this morning. Family all very well. Thursday, August 7 Weather pleasant in the shade. We are still quite busy in the Mills. I ingaged more wheat from Mathews Wm. & G. Toft. Family all well. Friday, August 8 Weather continues about the same. We were quite busy all day two loads wheat came in one from Eden & Bro. & one from Mr. Toft. Family all well. Saturday, August 9 Weather pleasant. We were very busy all day in the Merchant Mill. Two loads wheat came in Mathews & Toft. We ran two Burrs all day packed all the afternoon, sold some flour to Toft 3 bbls at 9 per bbl. Paid for wheat 1.55. All well. Sunday, August 10 Weather warm. I did not go to Sunday School. Jacob did not go so I thought there would be no school. About home most all day family all well. Monday, August 11 Weather warm. We are very busy in the Mills grinding mostly operating in the Merchant Mill. We get wheat in about every day. We had quite a heavy rain early Sunday morning. Family all well. Tuesday, August 12 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. We had quite a rise in the River came within about one foot from being on the lower floor. We got scared and moved everything on the lower floor, but after it went down we found it did us no harm of note. More wheat came in today. We shiped one car load flour of 82 bls to Balto. Means & Dunn Wednesday, August 13 Weather cloudy & wet today. Had more wheat come in today one load of 108 Bus. of white very good wheat. We are running now at nights we want to keep the wheat ground as it comes in & what we cannot sell ship it to Balto. Family all well. Thursday, August 14 .Weather pleasant but we had it last night commenced to rain in the evening late & about midnight we had another flood and done us considerable damage tore away all the Embankments between the Head Gates & the big Rock and all the river ran through that place. Did not loose anything in the Mills but filled up the tale Race in some places. Friday, August 15 Weather a little cloudy. We started 7 hands today commenced on the tale race. The men got along very well. It also broke through the tale race of the Country mill and filled it pretty well up. I am in hopes that we will be able to start the Mills by the middle of next week Saturday, August 16 Weather pleasant except it rained some in the evening but [not] enough to stop the hands from work. We got pretty well through with the tale race today. Worked some on the [--] cleaning it out want to get to the Head Gate on Monday if the good Lord will permit it. Family all well. Sunday, August 17 Weather wet. About home all day family all well. Monday, August 18 Weather quite wet on and off all day but we managed to work all day on the Repairs caused by the flood. We worked filling up below the Mills and mending the Road leading up to the Bridge. Tuesday, August 19 Weather cloudy but no rain. We are working about 12 to 15 hands & 3 carts working at the Head Gate now. We are getting [along] very well but find it hard work. Family all well. Wednesday, August 20 Weather more pleasant but cloudy. We are still at the Head Gate. We are still working a full gang of men & 2 or 3 carts Family all well. Thursday, August 21 Weather pleasant. We got the Dam high enough to start the Country Mill today. The bank about the Head Gate we were raising broke away from us today & it was with great dificulty we stoped it. At one time I thought that it would carry all away that we had put in but we stoped it in time to save it. Friday, August 22 Weather pleasant but a little warm in the afternoon. We finished up the work today & let the men go. We were just a week fixing up from the affects of the flood. Will cost us something on or about 200$. I feal very glad that we have got through. All well. Saturday, August 23 Weather warm. I were in the Mills all day were very busy also ground some Plaster. We have considerable wheat setting in the Mill in bags. We paid off most of the hands today. We are grinding late tonight want to Ketch up with our work. Family all well. Sunday, August 24 Weather pleasant. Charlie & I went up to Mt. Ary to Campmeeting came back in the evening. They have a very nice Camp there a great many people were there today. We had a very pleasant time hered part of one sermon. Family all well mother is still with us she is very well. Monday, August 25 Weather pleasant. We are quite busy in the Mills grinding and taking in wheat. Family all well. Tuesday, August 26 Weather pleasant. Things go along about as usual. We are about out of Barrells. Have sent up to Frederick for Bbls have to pay 58 cts per bbl. Family all well. Wednesday, August 27 Weather pleasant but cloudy. I went to Balto today to attend to business. While there I sold some Gold 7655 sold for 115 ¼ Returned in the evening family all well. Thursday, August 28 Weather cloudy & wet. We were busy all day in the Mills. Family all well. We sent 5 bbls flour to Sykesville to Zimmerman & Lutz at 825 per bbl. Family flour very low. Friday, August 29 Weather cloudy & wet part of the day. A.P. Forsyth bought in some wheat. Part of it was so wet he had to put it up in the Country Mill today. We took in what was dry. Family well. We had an order from Elicott City for 10 Bbls flour and Elysville for 10 Bbls flour & 1000 Meal. Saturday, August 30 Weather quite pleasant all day. One load of wheat & one load of corn came in today. Paid for wheat 164 & for corn 70 cts per Bushel, white. We had a load of Bbls from Frederick today price 58 per bbl. Family all well. Sunday, August 31 Weather quite warm. We had Sabbath School & Church at our place of worship today. I was about home most of the after school & preaching. Family all very well. Monday, September 1 Weather pleasant. We are busy now as we can be grinding night & day. Wheat is comeing in most every day. Wheat is very good this year excepting here lately since the rain a good deal is tuff & some sprouted wheat. Family all well Mother is still with us. Tuesday, September 2 Weather warm. Things goes along about as usual all very busy but I find it very hard to collect & meet our payments for wheat but so far for which I am very thankfull no one has pushed us. It requires some to get the flour into money about 30 days. All well. Wednesday, September 3 Weather warm. Mother went home yesterday. Willie McDonald came up for her. Maggie went in with her to stay a few days. We were very sorry to see her go away. We sent away a car load of flour of 100 bbls. Family we are all well. Thursday, September 4 Weather quite warm. We commenced on the Midlings this morning. We want to clean up & see about what we are doing. The profits are very light especially in what flour we have to ship to Balto. We are paying today for good wheat 1.67. Friday, September 5 Weather warm. We finished grinding & Bolting the [--] flour & commenced in the afternoon on wheat again. Wheat comes in just about as fast as I wish. I want to keep it ground up about as fast as it comes in & send it off to market so we will run no risk if it comes down. All well. Saturday, September 6 Weather pleasant today. Not as warm as is has been. We had a very pretty load of white wheat come in today gave 1.67 for it. We ordered another car today so we can load for Balto. First of the week. We are doing some grinding in the Country Mill today. The Mech is also running night & day. Sunday, September 7 Weather pleasant. We were at Sabbath School in the morning we had no Church today. Family all well. Maggie is still in Balto on a visit. Monday, September 8 Weather warm but pleasant. We shiped 100 Bbls flour to Balto today. We are very busy grinding day & night. Family all well. Tuesday, September 9 Weather continues about the same and things goes along very well in the Mills. Mr. Beam & I have all we can do running night & day. Family well. Wednesday, September 10 Weather pleasant. Things goes along about as usual. We are running all the time night & day & send the flour to Balto about as fast as we grind it. All well. Thursday, September 11 Weather pleasant. Wheat is still comeing in about as fast as we can grind & that is just what I would ask. All well. Friday, September 12 Weather pleasant. We were quite busy all day grinding & takeing in wheat. We are paying now about 1.66 on average. Wheat is very good this season. Maggie is still in Balto. Saturday, September 13 Weather pleasant until late in the afternoon we had a very heavy rain storm & raised the water quite high in the River & tale race. Beam went to Balto in the evening so I was alone in the Mills. I shut down in the evening. Family all well. Sunday, September 14 Weather pleasant but a little muddy after the rain. We had no Sabbath School but had preaching in the afternoon. Family all well. Maggie is still in Baltimore with her friends. Monday, September 15 Weather pleasant but it was quite cold last night with a light frost. I was very busy all day Mr. Beam returned home this morning. I ran the Mill while he was away. John Wagner is back he is working for us glad to have him back. All well. Tuesday, September 16 Weather pleasant. We still keep quite busy in the Mills. Wheat comes in just about as fast as we grind which suits us first rate. Wheat stands us now about 1.66. We sent another load of flour of 100 Bbls again today, flour is low. Family all well. Wednesday, September 17 Weather pleasant. Things moves along in the Mills very pleasantly but plenty of hard work we run night & day. Family all well Maggie is still in Balto. Thursday, September 18 Weather quite pleasant. We loaded up another car of flour to go away tomorrow all family 100 Bbls. Only one small load of wheat came in today paid 1.65. We retail our family at 9.50 per bbl. Corn Meal $2.00 per 100 lbs. Family all well. Friday, September 19 Weather pleasant excepting in the evening we had some rain. We still keep busy night & day. We are grinding the wheat just about as fast as it comes in & ship the flour to Balto to Means & Dunn our Com. Merchant. Family all well. We shipped another car load of flour another 100 Bbls family. Saturday, September 20 Weather quite pleasant feels cool this evening I expect we will have frost tonight. We had a very busy day today had an order to fill from Elicott City 5 bbls flour & 1000” Meal. Some wheat came in & also some corn. Maggie & her Aunt Lizie came up this eve. Sunday, September 21 Weather quite pleasant excepting cool in the evening expecting frost had some last night. Sunday School but no Preaching. I was about home the balance of the day. Mrs. Lizzie McDonald is up with us until tomorrow when she returns. Fanily all well. Monday, September 22 Weather cool but pleasant. I had some fixing up this morning before we started the Mill but busy all day as usual. Some wheat came in of R. Dorsey of C. very good wheat paid today 1.67 per Bu. Lizzie McDonald went home today so did our Girl Dum. Tuesday, September 23 Weather little warm today & cloudy. Very busy all day 4 Loads wheat came today. Wheat is down paid today 1.57 to 1.62. We has a Load of Plaster come today of 9 tons. Paid 5$ on the cars in Balto for it. Freight about 90 cts per ton. Family all very well thanks to the good Lord. Wednesday, September 24 Weather pleasant. We still keep busy in the Mill. We sent off another Car Load of flour 100 Bbls Family flour. Wheat is still comeing down oing to a great financial Panick that is about setting in. Most all the Banks in New York have suspended. All well. Thursday, September 25 Weather pleasant. No wheat comeing now oing to the fall & farmers are holding back hopeing that it will go up again, but I think it will get lower before it gets higher. I am very Glad we have but little on hand flour is also very dull & a little lower. We have about 400 Bbls on hand. Friday, September 26 Weather pleasant. We are still grinding finishing up what wheat we have on hand & grinding over the Midlings & schreenings. No wheat comeing in & am glad of it until the market gets settled. Wheat still lower flour about the same. The financial panick is getting more general all over the Country. Saturday, September 27 Weather pleasant. Up to this time we have been running day & night but now we are pretty nearly ground out all we have on hand is the Mech. Mill. Do not expect to do much more until the Market gets settled. No wheat comeing in but will take all that comes along. Family well. Sunday, September 28 Weather cloudy part of the day but no rain. We had no S. School but walked up to the Church but so few there we had no School. Had preaching in the afternoon by the Rev. Mr. Thurkle(?). Family all well. Monday, September 29 Weather pleasant but the nights are quite cool with some frost. No wheat comeing in now but we keep doing something grinding over the Mid. & cleaning up, doing some country work. Family all well. Tuesday, September 30 Weather continues about the same. We keep busy doing something about the Mills but no wheat comeing in yet. It is partly oing to the fall in wheat and the farmers being busy seeding. The money matters appears to be getting better in the Citys. All well. Wednesday, October 1 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto today to see about buying some Plaster. Engaged 50 tons at 4.78 on cars at Locus Point. Freight from that place to this about 98 cts per ton short tons. We get long tons 2240 lbs. Some wheat came in today paid 1.55. Family all well. Thursday, October 2 Weather pleasant. We done some sawing today for R.M. Fuller. We kept busy about the Mills after we got through with the sawing. Family all well. Friday, October 3 Weather pleasant. I was alone all day. Beam our Miller went away to Balto on a visit will be back about next Monday. I was busy all day about the Mills grinding some chop & some meal for A. Mercer, the first I ever ground alone got along first rate. All well. Saturday, October 4 Weather cloudy & rained some in the evening. I was very busy all day fixing up about the Mill. Sold some Plaster & done a very good retail business in the Mill. The first load of Plaster of the 50 tons came up today. Family all well. Sunday, October 5 Weather pleasant. We were at Sabbath School in the morning. Afternoon Jacob & I rode over to see two sick persons in Howard Co. Mr. Ridgely & Judge John A. Dorsey. They are both very sick. Mr. Ridgely has the Consumtion & Mr. Dorsey was paralised about 6 weeks ago. They are not expected to live. Monday, October 6 Weather wet most all day. Mr. Beam came home this morning. We kept busy all day grinding some wheat & rye for Fifer & Meal for ourselves. Had an order from Ellicott City for 1000” Meal to Th. H. Hunt. No wheat comeing in yet would like to get to grinding again soon. Family all well. Tuesday, October 7 Weather cool & pleasant with prospects of frost tonight. We kept busy all day. We have an order to fill of J. H. Leishear, Ellicott City 10 bbls flour 7 1000 lbs Meal & ½ ton Plaster to go up the road for T.M. Hall. Have been grinding Meal all day. Family all well. Wednesday, October 8 Weather pleasant cool at night but no frost. We have not had much frost yet. We ran the corn Mill grinding Meal & Beam & I unloaded two car loads lump Plaster. Business was not very brisk today alltho we had plenty of work to do. No wheat comeing in now farmers are busy seeding. Thursday, October 9 Weather about as yesterday pleasant no frost last night. Two more car loads of Plaster came today filling my order of 50 tons. We get long tons 2240. Beam & I got them unloaded after wich we went to sawing some lumber for our selves. We ordered One hundred (100) Tons plaster more today makeing 150 tons. All well. Friday, October 10 Weather quite pleasant had some frost last night. We ran the saw mill all day sawing some Logs for ourselves logs we got of Wm. Brandenberg. Sold some feed today. Selling feed at large quanitys , 20, 30 & 45 per Bus. I find money matters very tite but I am doing the best I can. Saturday, October 11 Weather quite pleasant frost last night. We worked in the saw Mill all day sawing some logs for ourselves. The logs we got from Mr. Brandenberg. We sent off 1000 lbs Meal to Mr. T.H. Hunt E. City at 1.80 per hundred freight off. The balance of the first lot of Plaster came up yesterday 62 1020/2240 tons cost 29354 6341 freight 356.95 total Family all well. Sunday, October 12 Weather pleasant. We had Church today morning & evening with the intention of Keeping it up during the weeks of nights. We had no School today. Had a very good attendance at the little Church morning and Evening. Monday, October 13 Weather pleasant cool at night with some frost and in some places had some ice. We were busy all day sawing lumber for ourselves got nearly through with what logs we have on hand, also sold some Plaster. Some of my family went to Church tonight but I did not go. Was busy most of the evening in the Mill Office. All well. Tuesday, October 14 Weather continues pleasant frost again last night. We finished sawing for the present. This morning then went to grinding some grist. After dinner we ground Plaster but has to stop to take up the Bur wants new followers . Sold some plaster & feed today. Family all well. Wednesday, October 15 Weather pleasant but warm through the day. Mr. beam & I worked all day covering over the race opposite the Plaster Mill to put lump plaster. We have the House full. It was very heavy work. I covered it by putting two roes post through the center of the race & then covered with [--]. Family all well. Thursday, October 16 Weather continues quite pleasant not so cool at nights. We finished covering the Race this morning. Afternoon we cleaned out the tale race. Wm. Selby put new followers in the plaster bur today. We expected plaster up today bit did not come. Family all well. Evening went to meeting at Watson’s Chapple. Friday, October 17 Weather pleasant. Farmers are haveing a good fall to get in there grane. We finished fixing up the Plaster Mill. I took the Balance Ring & reset it had got out of time worked very well after it was fixed. Family all well. Evening went to meeting had a very good meeting. Saturday, October 18 Weather pleasant. We were not very busy today, ground some corn for our selves & some for our Neighbors. We finished grinding some Plaster. I want to get to grinding wheat first of the week. We have about 88 Bus on hand & about 50 A. Forsyth wheat He left today over the Plaster Mill. Family all well. Sunday, October 19 Weather pleasant but cloudy part of the day. At Sunday School in the morning & Covenant meeting & preaching in the evening same place. All well. Monday, October 20 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. Water was quite high in the River. We were grinding in the Country Mill all day & started on some wheat in the Merchant mill. Evening wet family well. Tuesday, October 21 Weather pleasant today. A little cloudy but no rain. We ran the Merchant Mill all day & until about 10 at night. I stayed & attended to the Mill. Beam went to meeting. We sent 1000 lbs Meal to Mr. T.H. Hunt E. City today. He is one of our best customers for Meal. Family all well. Wednesday, October 22 Weather quite pleasant today but was quite cold last night had a very heavy frost the heaviest we have had. We were very busy all day in the Mills took in some wheat & also 37 Bus Buckwheat 1.55 Buc 80cts Bu. Family all well. I want to go to meeting tonight. Thursday, October 23 Weather quite pleasant. We kept busy all day in the Mills ground some Corn Meal for ourselves & Crushed some Corn the first for the season for Fifer. Ran the Merchant Mill all day grinding & running up some wheat. We have but very little wheat on hand. I am alone in the Mill tonight Beam go to Church. Friday, October 24 Weather pleasant. We were quite busy all day about the Mills. Took in some Corn paying 70 cts per Bu also more Buckwheat of J.M. Dorsey paid 80 cts per Bu considered high Bu he is owing us & thought best to take it at that. We finished grinding what wheat on hand at present All well. Saturday, October 25 Weather quite pleasant. We took in more Corn today have all we want at present also Buckwheat. Jacob & I are getting out a Trunk to put in the tale Race at the mouth of the culvert want to put it in first of the week. Business was not very good today. All well. Sunday, October 26 Weather rather changeable pleasant in the forenoon but clouded up & commenced to rain in the evening. Was to have preaching at night but oing to the weather had none. We had Sabbath School in the morning but not many present. Family all well. Monday, October 27 Weather cloudy most of the day & wet. We finished boatting (sic) the balance of the flour this morning & then ran the Country Mill the balance of the day on Corn & Buckwheat grinding some for our selves to sell. We don’t appear to find sail for it. Business is very dull very little doing. All well. Tuesday, October 28 Weather pleasant changeable cloudy & cold part of the day with a little snow. I commenced to put the Trunk in the tale Race but had to stop on account of help. George went after hands & got the promise of all we may want to come tomorrow. Three loads of wheat came in today giveing 1.53 & 1.55 very good wheat. Business dull. Family all well. Wednesday, October 29 Weather windy & cold. We worked all day with about 10 men cleaning out the tale race & putting in a Trunk at the mouth of the Culvert to prevent the washing of the stream in the race. Did not get it quite finished will try & finish it tomorrow. Business very dull. Family all well. Thursday, October 30 Weather cool but pleasant to work out. We worked all day Jacob & I building the flume or Trunk in the tale race got nearly finished. We filled an order of 10 bbls R.R. Family for Jas. S. Gary & Son, Elysville at 9$ per bbl also 50 Bus Light Midlings to W. Preston Turner. Family well. Friday, October 31 Weather pleasant until late in the evening got cold & cloudy with North wind with a little rain. We finished our flume & also some filing about the Head Gate. We have been grinding some corn for R. Dorsey of C. 26 Bus. We also commenced to grind some wheat in the Merchant Mill. Pay Car came up today made it a little more brisk for us. All well. Saturday, November 1 Weather pleasant but cool. We are haveing very cold nights some ice & aplenty of frost. We were very busy all day ran both Mills grinding Corn & wheat. Another load of corn of about 28 Bu came in today to be ground for Henry Forsyth. Three loads of Plaster came up today. Business tolerable good today. Family all well. Sunday, November 2 Weather pleasant. At Sabbath School in the morning & Covnt. meetings. Jacob & I walked down to Slab Town & back & I took Tea with Jacob. There was preaching in the morning but I did not feal well & did not go. Family all well. Monday, November 3 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto today went & came on the Winchester Trane its first trip since put back on this route it has been off for some time. While in Balto I bought some things for myself Parlor Stove, 4 hare Blankets & some other little things for the family. Business appears well in Balto as well as ay home. Family all well. Tuesday, November 4 Weather pleasant. Today is Election day I did not vote. The Bill & 2 Notes came up today for the balance of the Plaster 1041491 Tons Plaster that being as we 2240 think all we may want for our next Spring trade. Business was very dull all day. Beam & I done some little work about the Mills. Family all well. Wednesday, November 5 Weather quite pleasant all day. We were busy all day grinding in the Country Mill grists & Buckwheat for Market. I want to go to Balto tomorrow to try to sell some. Our new Parlor Stove came up today & I fixed it up with some other little things I bought while I was in Balto Monday. Family all well thanks to the good Lord. Thursday, November 6 Weather cool but pleasant. Jacob & I went to Balto today Jacob went to get things for the store & went to see about sending some Buckwheat Meal & Corn Meal to Means & Dunn our Commition Merchants. Will make up a load of the same & send it as soon as posible. Times appears dull in Balto. Family all well. Friday, November 7 Weather cloudy & wet all day. Have been busy all day grinding Buckwheat & Corn & weighing the same to be shipped to Balto. A small load of wheat came in today paid 1.46. Everything is comeing down & times are very tite. I hope we will be able to weather through it. Family all well. Saturday, November 8 Weather pleasant most of the day a little cloudy & wet part of the day. Another load of wheat came in today paid 1.50. A. Chadwick wheat was very good. We began to grind wheat just before noon. We ran the Country Mill all day on Buckwheat. I sold some today at 2.50 per 100. Business tolerable good today. Sold 6 Bbls R.R. Family at 8.50. Family all well. Sunday, November 9 Weather cool but pleasant. At Sunday School in the morning. Preaching in the afternoon by Mr. Waters, very good attendance. Family all well. Monday, November 10 Weather pleasant but cool. We finished grinding what wheat we had on hand and ran the Country Mill on Corn most of the day. Business rather dull today no orders to fill. Family all very well bless the good Lord for it. Tuesday, November 11 Weather quite cool & has the appearance of snow or rain. We finished husking the flour & ran the Com. Mill all day in corn & Buckwheat. We noticed in the paper today the death of Sallie’s Aunt Mrs. Henry Slicer died last evening. Wednesday, November 12 Weather cloudy part of the day & cold. We ran the Country Mill all day on Corn & Buckwheat. I fixed up a place under my desk in my Mill Office to keep my tools & put a new bucket in the water wheal. Business not very brisk today. Family all well. Thursday, November 13 Weather quite cold all day & snowed some enough to cover the ground. We loaded a Car today for Balto with flour Meal & Buckwheat Meal, ground over what Midlings on hand & done some little grinding in Country Mill. Some wheat came in today very good white wheat paid 1.50. Family all well. Friday, November 14 Weather quite cool all day especially this morning was very cold with considerable ice & ground hard frozen. Another load of white wheat came today 70,57 Bus gave the same as yesterday 1.50. this afternoon I commenced to build a Cow house adjoining the Hen house. Business not very brisk today. Family all well. Saturday, November 15 Weather cold in the morning but the after part of the day was quite pleasant. I finished my Cow House this morning. Another load of wheat of 72 Bus came in today same man W.A. Ridgley gave the same 1.50. Business very dull today. I got a place for Peter today with W.A. Ridgely. Family all well. Sunday, November 16 Weather cool but clear. Sunday School & Covenant Meeting very good meeting and school. At home the remainder of the day. Family all well thanks to the good Lord. Monday, November 17 Weather quite wintery all day as it has been snowing all day but a little too soft to lay very deep on the ground. It is the first wintery day we have had. We commenced to grind the white wheat we got of W.A. Ridgely today ran both Burs on it all day. Business dull. Family all well. Tuesday, November 18 Weather cloudy & wet all day with snow on the ground makeing the walking very bad. We ran the Merchant mill all day. I done a little grinding in the Country Mill. We stop now about dusk as business is slack. No business today nothing taken in Sadie, Bill & Ginnie Cunningham spent the evening with us. All well. Wednesday, November 19 Weather cool but no rain & pleasant. We ran the Merchant Mill all day stop at dusk on account of not haveing much to do. Business very dull. Had some Homney to beat today for Capt. Mercer. One other grist ground for Tom Hatfield. Preparations going on at Jacob’s for a Wedding in the morning of Miss Bell & Mr. J. Dorsey. All well. Thursday, November 20 Weather a little cloudy cool but pleasant all day. The Wedding came off this morning all my family were present except Ella. There was a very pleasant gathering and everything went off very pleasantly. They were married about 8-30 this morning & went off at about 9 o’clock for there home Cumberland in a special Car. Business has been very dull all day no business. Friday, November 21 Weather cold and freezeing all day in the shade. The Dam froze over last night. We were not very busy today. Done some little grindings in the Country Mill today. Business very dull. Family all dull. Saturday, November 22 Weather pleasant but cool did not freeze much today. Business very dull again today. Had some grinding to do in the Country Mill & I fixed up the windows in the loar part of the Mill. I am afraid business will be dull all winter but must hope for the best. I am very happy that we are all well. Sunday, November 23 Weather cool & cloudy & rained some in the afternoon. Was to be preaching but oing to the rain they had none. We were at Sabbath School but very few was out. I was at home all the balance of the day & evening. All well. Monday, November 24 Weather quite wet all day and ;last night & caused quite a rise in the River almost a flood. Business was quite dull today. Got an order to fill for tomorrow of 3 Bbls flour 200 Meal & 1 Bu Homney to go to Slabtown. We done some grinding in the Country Mill. Family all well. Tuesday, November 25 Weather not so cold today but cloudy most of the day with some rain in the after part of the day. Business was very dull all day. We filled one or two orders to go to Slabtown & Sykesville of flour, Meal & Homney. Wheat & flour has gone up wheat higher than it has been this season. The best grades as high as 1.85 per. Bu. All well. Wednesday, November 26 Weather cool but pleasant. We beat Homney & done some sawing today. Business very dull. Wheat & flour has gone up but does not affect us much as we have no wheat on hand but have about 80 bbls flour in the mill. Family all well. Thursday, November 27 Weather pleasant for this climate. I was all alone in the Mills today Mr. Beam went away on a visit being thanks given day. I did not intend to have done much but as it hapened I was quite busy all the afternoon. Had a grist of corn to grind for A.P. Forsyth & two loads of wheat came so I had to go to work grinding paid 1.70 for it. Friday, November 28 Weather cloudy & cool with a sprinkle of snow. I was alone again today. George came & helped me. Beam came home late this eve. I ground all last night & all day today ground up 11730 Bus wheat since last eve. I got along very well about 60 my first attempt of grinding family flour. Filled an order for J.S. Gary & Son 10 Bbls R.R. Family flour. Saturday, November 29 Weather quite cold but clear. Business not very brisk today. We ran the boalts in the Merchant Mill & done some sawing. One small load of wheat came in. Expect more next week as I have been offering a pretty stiff price for it 1.70. Family all well. Sunday, November 30 Weather cool. We had Sabbath School & Conference meeting in the morning. No meeting the after part of the day. Sallie, the children & I spent the evening at Sam’s. All well. Monday, December 1 Weather quite wintery all day cloudy & snowing most all day. N.B. Dorsey brought a load of wheat 65 Bu paid 1.70. We ran the Mill all day one Bur on Mid & one on wheat makeing R.R. Ex. Business rather dull today. I am getting ready to send another load of flour to Balto. Family all well. Tuesday, December 2 Weather cloudy & damp but no rain ground covered mostly with snow & sleet. Business rather dull. The Pay Car came up today so some money came in from the Rail Road men. Had an order to go to Soap(?) Stone for 500 Meal. We are running the Merchant Mill but most out of wheat. All well. Wednesday, December 3 Weather foggy & cloudy all day no rain has the appearance of clear weather. We have a load of flour on hand to ship away but want to here from the [--] last shiped to [--] to [--] before we ship again. We were not very busy today but kept doing something. Family all well. Thursday, December 4 Weather not very cold but cloudy & windy. We worked on the saw Mill most all day sawing some logs for R. O. Day on shares. Also did some little grinding in the Country Mill. Business quiet. Family all well. Friday, December 5 Weather quite wintery most of the day. We worked in the Saw Mill in the forenoon. Did not do much in the afternoon not much to do. Ran the Homney beaters & loaded a car of 80 Bbls flour to go to Balto. Business not very brisk. Family all well. Saturday, December 6 Weather pleasant but cool. We were quite busy all day today had a small load Buckwheat came in & we went to work & ground it. A load of Bbls came from Frederick had them to unload. I did some little business times however are not very brisk. Family all well. Sunday, December 7 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. We had no Sabbath School nor preaching today on account of the weather. I was about home all day. Family all well. Monday, December 8 Weather cloudy all day with mist late in the evening. We were not very busy today but done all we had to do. Sawed one log & done some little grinding in the Country Mill. I sent a draft to Joseph Payne of Frederick for a load of Bbls. We had to pay 60cts for them. Family all well. Tuesday, December 9 Weather quite pleasant but a little cloudy. We were not very busy today did a little grinding in the Country Mill was all we done today. Beam was out on the R. Road most all day picking Coal. Business very dull. Family all well. Wednesday, December 10 Weather a little cloudy and cool. We had nothing to do today in the way of grinding but I kept busy jobing about the Mill and made a Horse for Sallie to hold the churn. Sold some flour & Meal to Jas. S. Gary & Son 300 B.W. Meal 3.25 per 100. I rec a long letter from Bro. C.L. Fisher, Nevada. Thursday, December 11 Weather cloudy in the morning with appearance of rain but cleared off about 9 o’clock. The balance of the day was very pleasant. We Killed our Hoggs today. We had some very fine Hoggs weight 1432 lbs. I bought 1 of Azel Mercer. Business very dull all day. Family very well. Friday, December 12 Weather very pleasant. Mr. Azel Mercer was over this morning & cut up our Hogs. We are very well pleased with out Hogs. The women folks were very busy all day rending lard & makeing sausage pudding &co. Business was very slack about the Mill excepting 72 Bus feed we sold to Wm. Mathews Saturday, December 13 Weather not very pleasant cloudy & wet part of the morning with high wind in the evening. John & I worked all day on the Meat house. I had to stop once or twice to go to the Mill. Some 20 or 30 Bus Buckwheat came today paid 80cts per Bu for it. Jacob salted down the Hogs. Family all well. Sunday, December 14 Weather pleasant. No Sabbath School or Church today. We all took a walk up to see Marion’s(?) Farm. We started about noon and got back about 4. We spent the evening with Jacob. Family all well. Monday, December 15 Weather very pleasant. I finished my Meat House today. We done some grinding in the Country Mill today. Business runs dull. I worked until late in the evening to get my Meat House finished. We are all very well pleased with it. Family all well. Tuesday, December 16 Weather quite pleasant. We were busy in the Mills all day. Ran the Country Mill all day on B. Wheat. Some 40 Bus wheat came today we ran that up. Some 6 or 8 bus corn came today to be ground. Business not very brisk. Family all well. Wednesday, December 17 Weather quite pleasant. We ran the Country Mill all day on corn for Mr. Waters. Business very slack no wheat comeing in. I feal very anxious to keep the Mills running if we can only keep every (sic). I do not like to be idle. Family all well I do not feal so well tonight. Thursday, December 18 Weather pleasant. Business not very yet (sic). We kept doing something all day did some grinding in the Country Mill. Business is dull. Some little corn came in today in the [--] paying 3$ per Bbl for white. I am not fealing very well today. The rest of the family are all very well. Friday, December 19 Weather on the whole pleasant a little cloudy in the morning & clear in the afternoon & evening with quite a brisk wind. A little lot of wheat came in today giveing 1.70. We Bought 8 pigs today from Eden & Bro. at 1$ a piece. They are very nice looking pigs. We ran the Merchant Mill today. Some wheat expected tomorrow. All well. Saturday, December 20 Weather clear but windy & a little cool. H.K. Ridgely bought in a load of wheat today of 115 Bus paid 1.70 for it. We took the Burs up & cleaned them then started on the wheat. I would like to keep running now rite along if the wheat would come in. I am not fealing very well today the rest of the family are all well. Sunday, December 21 Weather quite cool but dry. We have no Sabbath School now. We had preaching this afternoon by the Rev. Mr. Thompson quite a good turnout. I spent most of the day at home. Family all well. I am not fealing so well. I took medison last night. Monday, December 22 Weather quite cool. We had quite a job this morning fixing the Cloths after which we went to grinding wheat. Business continues dull but a little better today then it has been. We sold some flour & Meal. I am fealing a little better today. Family all well. Tuesday, December 23 Weather Cloudy most of the day snowed last night & part of the morning. The ground is pretty covered with about 2 in. snow. We ran the Merchant Mill all day. Business pretty good today as the Pay Car came up this morning & most of the Men on the Road paid up & ordered more flour. Family all well. Wednesday, December 24 Weather quite pleasant. We were quite busy in the Mill all grinding & also sold some flour & Meal. The Meal went to Ellicott City to Thomas. H. Hunt at 1.75 per 100. Mother came up this morning to see us she is looking very well. Well another Christmas Eve. Finds us all well thanks to the good Lord. Thursday, December 25 Weather pleasant. I kept holiday today & spent the day visiting about. Pased a very pleasant day but did not feal very well in the evening. We had some Christmas at Home with a very pretty Tree for the Children. The day pased off very pleasantly. Family all well. Friday, December 26 Weather cloudy & snowing most all day. Mr. Beam went away this morning on a visit to his family will be beck in a few days. Havent much to do about the Mills at present. I stayed about the Mill Office all day but had very little to do. The Children had a little gathering at the house this afternoon. All well. Saturday, December 27 Weather cloudy & snowed most all day. I was about the Mills most all day but nothing doing. Afternoon Jacob, Capt. Mercer, Mr. Parmer & I called on Mr. A. Forsyth & spent an hour or so. Mr. Beam came home on the evening trane. Family all well. Mother Slicer is still with us. Sunday, December 28 Weather quite cool but no rain or snow. No Church or Sabbath School today. I was about home all day. Mother is still with us. I would be pleased to have her make her home with us. Family all well. Monday, December 29 Weather cool but pleasant cloudy but no rain or snow. Beam is back. We finished gringing over Midlings. We have but very little grinding in the Mills to do now but hope wheat will soon come in. I like to be doing something. Family all well. Tuesday, December 30 Weather quite cold all day & last night. I went to Balto today on a little business & found it very cold to be out. I went to see a Bone Mill at D….?… very well pleased with it. Business pretty good at the Mill today. Jas. S. Gary & Son ordered 10 bbl flour. Found all well on my return home in the evening. Wednesday, December 31 Weather clear but cold. We were not very busy in the Mill today. We had some dificulty in starting the Country Mill on account of it freezeing about the gait shaft but it is esy fixed. Mr. Beam our miller went to Baltimore this afternoon to be gone for the balance of this week to see His family. I presume he seldom goes to see them. Well I am very happy to say that this the last day of the old year finds me & all my dear family enjoying Excellent health and looking back over the last year I feal that the good Lord has directed and blessed me more then I am worthy of. He has kept us all from harm and I feal thus I am in debted to Him for all that I have.
