We are still liveing at Hood Mills Jacob attending to the Store & I to the Mills and owing to circumstances we are anxious to sell & are trying to do so at present. We need money to do Business with. Beam is helping me in the Mills. We ground corn chop all day & ground some Buckwheat. No Sails today, Dull. My family are all very well. Many thanks to the good Lord for it. Saturday, January 2 Weather quite wintery with the ground covered with a sleat but did thaw a little in the Sun. We ran corn Mill all day on Buckwheat. We took up the corn Bur this morning and gave it the necessary fixing. Business continues very dull and prospects not much better for the balance of the winter at least. Mr. A.C. Hewett came after his corn chop today 25 Bags. Family all well. Sunday, January 3 Weather quite pleasant overhead for this season of the year got a little cool in the evening. I walked about some in the morning and read afternoon. We went to Church this evening Bro. Clem Preached. Text We are all here today together. Good subject for the occasion the first Sabbath of the New Year. We all spent the evening at home. Family all well. Monday, January 4 Weather pleasant thawing in the Sun all day. Business rather dull sold some little flour and collected some money. The Nocker on the Merchant Boalt came off and went through the cloth makeing quite a bad hole. Sallie went to Balto this morning with Maud to see the Dr. about her eyes. Willie went with her will not be back untill tomorrow eve. Tuesday, January 5 Weather quite cold all day and freezeing. We had nothing to do today in the way of business nothing doing at all. I finished sewing the Merchant Cloth where the Nocker went through and that is about all we have done today. I hope business will get better soon. Sallie went to Balto. yesterday with Maudie to see the Dr. about her eyes. I expect them up this evening it is very lonely without her. Wednesday, January 6 Weather quite cold freezeing all day but dry & still. Business very dull again today nothing doing. Messers Zimmerman & Shultz sent up the Bal. of there Bill 5282. Id rather it had been an order for flour. I commenced to take up the old floor in the lower part of the Mill today to replace it with a new floor put a gurder under the Grane sink makes a good job. Maud is getting along very well since Sallie took her to the Dr. All well. Thursday, January 7 Weather very wintery all day raining & freezeing until the ground is covered with ice. Beam & I worked all day puting down floor in the lower part of the Mill. Business very dull sold 30cts worth corn chop on time was all the business done today. I do hope it will get better soon. Family all well. Friday, January 8 Weather cold & wintry. Our Neighbours are cutting ice off the Dam. The walking is very bad owing to the sleet. Beam & I worked all day at the floor in the lower part of the Mill. Business a little better today took in 1.50. I think business will get better after the weather gets better. The Roads is so bad People can not get about. Family all well. Saturday, January 9 Weather very cold all day & quite windy in the afternoon. I finished puting down the floor in the lower part of the Mill it looks a great deal better. Jacob went to Baltimore today to pay Lyons interest Note $150 it took nearly all the money I have don’t know what will do when the next comes due. The Lord will provide some way mabe we will have a chance to sell. Family all well. Sunday, January 10 Weather very cold all day. No Church today so it was quite a long day to me. I hope it wont be long before I will have the privlege with my family to attend Church & Sabbath School. I was about home all day reading most of the time. All well. Monday, January 11 Weather quite cold good weather for ice men. Those of our Neighbours about here who have ice houses are filling them now. We were busy most all day grinding corn. Business looked a little better today some little inquire for flour sold some corn chop. I feal more anxious to sell out now then any time else. All well. Tuesday, January 12 Weather cold good weather for ice men and they are improveing the opertunity. Most of the farmers about here finished gathering there ice today. We done nothing in the Mill today except send off 5 Bbls flour to Zimmermen & Shultz Sykesville. We rec a posted card today of Mr. Hopkins that he would be up to see us latter part of this week in refferance to the place. I hope he may come. All well. Wednesday, January 13 Weather has been quite wintery all day ground covered with fine Hale. Did not snow today but cloudy with a heavy mist falling. We done nothing in the Mill all day except sent off 5 Bbls flour to J.H. Hopkins family at 6.00 per Bbl. we pay freight 30cts. Family all very well thanks to the good Lord. Thursday, January 14 Weather continues quite wintery but clear & cold ground covered with snow but bearley deep enough for sleighing. Business very dull done no grinding and only sold 1.05 worth flour. Business would be better for us if we had plenty of feed but we are intirely out of feed. Sold that about as fast as we [--] it at a good price while flour is a dull sail. All well. Friday, January 15 Weather clear and very cold all day. We done some grinding in the Country Mill 3 or 4 different lots and sold 1 Bbl flour on time @ 6.50 best. I ingaged about 100 Bus wheat today of W.H. Forsyth at 1.15 the sample he brought is very good wheat, Red. We are out of feed & low grades flour was the reason I bought today. I do not think the price of wheat will change for the next two Months. Family all well. Saturday, January 16 Weather quite cold all day thawed but very little in the Sun today. Done no grinding all day. Two loads of wheat of 104 Bus came today priced 1.15. I agreed to take the balance of wheat he has about 100 Bus at 1.13 ½ per Bus bring it next week. We retailed a little flour & Meal today but business continues very dull. We have plenty of calls for Brand but we are out of that kind of feed. Family all well. Sunday, January 17 Weather clear and cold. Could not walk about much today had to stay pretty close to the House & read. We had Preaching in the afternoon by Bro. Colb and he gave us a very good sermon but it was so cold that very few were out. The walking was pretty good ground being covered with snow & ice. (sic) Family all well thanks to the good Lord. Monday, January 18 Weather continues very cold & dry. W.H. Forsyth brought another load wheat over of 62 7 odd Bus. 5 Bus came for exchange gave 1 Bbl best family or 1.96 lbs for the 5 Bus wheat no feed. Marian McComas is halling some Logs for Mr M.A. Brian. I thought it too cold to commence to grind today and I find considerable ice on the Merchant Mill Wheal. Business a little more lively today. Family all well. Tuesday, January 19 Weather continues about the same cold and the ground covered with snow but not very deep. It snowed a little last night. I have been running the Country Mill most all day on corn most of it for our selves. Two loads wheat came today one of L. Bradford part white & part Red paid him 1.10. W.H. Forsyth brought another load over the last he has. As soon as it moderates I want to get to grinding. All well. Wednesday, January 20 Weather continues about the same except the Sun was a little warmer today. Business was rather dull today one or two parties were over to price corn & wheat. Would rather not buy any more corn or wheat at present as we have plenty in the Mills at present. Done a little grinding in the country Mill sold some flour but on time to customers. Maud’s eyes are getting better. All well. Thursday, January 21 Weather continues cold & dry. We commenced to saw today as we have 5 or 6 Logs now on hand & more comeing. I want to get them sawed before we go to grinding wheat. Business tolerable good today sold some for cash & some on time. I see bad news of Marysville in todays paper heavy flood there water 5 feet deep in the town & a great deal of damage done. I feal very sorry for Marysville. Friday, January 22 Weather quite pleasant overhead today. I think we are going to have some good weather now. We sawed untill noon & then had to stop & go to crushing & grinding corn of J.E. Buck had two loads 72 Bus. Business appears to be getting something better but flour moves very slow & wheat still comeing down worth now from 1 to 1.30 per Bus. Family well. Saturday, January 23 Weather cool but pleasant. We finished crushing & grinding Mr. J.E. Buck’s corn & then commenced to grind some corn for our own use. Also beat Homney. Business is not very brisk today I sold 1 Bbl and sent off ½ Bbl of flour & 200” Meal to W.H. Gibson all on time. More news from Marysville $1,000,000 lost by the flood a few days ago. I feal very sorry. Sunday, January 24 Weather very unpleasant. Raining & freezeing all day. It is butifull to see the trees full of ice and the grounds covered with a sleat. I did not go out of the House all day I was reading Robinson Caruso. Family all well. Maud’s eyes is getting considerable better since she was taken to Balto. Monday, January 25 Weather clear but has a wintery appearance as the ground and trees is covered with ice. It thawed some in the Sun. We were busy all day grinding and sawing. We have not started the Merchant Mill since the freeze up. Do not like to put water on the wheal. Saw in the paper today that Thomas Pardy got drowned in the flood in Marysville and his Wifes son. All well. Tuesday, January 26 Weather cold and the ground [blank] except on the side of hills & in warm places are covered with ice. We were busy all day grinding in the Country Mill. Sold 1 Bbl flour to go down the R. Road to a new customer Mr. O. Zepp Marriotsville. Business continues quiet & wheat & flour very low. All well. Wednesday, January 27 Weather continues cold & dry little more hazy today. We done some little grinding in the Country Mill and sold two Bbls Family flour cash today. Beam was away most all the forenoon. I have not felt very well all day. I took some Blue Mass this afternoon I think I am builous. Robert Day is halling some Logs on his hand car to be sawed. Family all well. Thursday, January 28 Weather not quite so cold today. It snowed last night about 2 inches deep but pretty much all went away today. I want to get to grinding wheat as soon as posible as we are out of low grades of flour. We had another call for 2 Bbls today [--] Family. The Country mill has been running all day on Meal & chop. I am not fealing very well today I took medisin yesterday. Friday, January 29 Weather cloudy & wet all day. It rained some last night so the falls is up today. I felt a little uneasy on account of the lower sink being full of wheat and the water wheal froze up so we went to work & cut the ice away so we could raise the gutter & let the water over the Wheal to thaw the ice & found it quite a job as the ice was about 2 feet thick in the fore bay. I still feal unwell. Saturday, January 30 Weather cool and clear. We were busy all day in the Country Mill grinding grists. We let water run over the Merchant Mill Wheal last night and all day today got it off this afternoon. But it was too heavy on one side with ice and had to prop it a while longer untill the ice gets off. Will let the water run over it all night. I feal a little better today. Sunday, January 31 Weather quite wintery all day. The ground was covered with snow when we got up this morning & it snowed off and on all day. I stayed about home & the Mill all day reading. The weather was too bad to have Church alltho it was Preaching day. People are very slow turning out here especialy a cold day. Family all well. Monday, February 1 Weather clear and cold all day with the ground covered with snow about 3 in deep. We let water run over the Water Wheal all day yesterday & all night to cut away the ice so we can get to grinding. We got the wheal off today & ran up wheat & in the afternoon we got to grinding. Want to get some flour on hand most out. Sold some flour & feed today. All well. Tuesday, February 2 Weather quite pleasant overhead all day but the walking is quite slopey & mudy when there is no snow. We ran both Mills all day had an order for 500# Meal filled it and started on Meal again. Water is low. Find it as much as we can do to run both Mills. Commenced to pack late this evening we do not run all night now as we do when we are very busy. All well. Wednesday, February 3 Weather quite pleasant the forenoon & rained some last night. The River has been raiseing all day it is now over the Road some 2 feet between the Mill & Bridge. Had to stop the Merchant Mill on account of back water. We keep the Turbine Wheal going on corn. Mr. A. Hewett brought 50 Bus to be choped. I feal very unwell this evening I think I have taken cold. Thursday, February 4 Weather very windy & cold all day. I left John Wagner in the Mill last night with Beam to run the Country Mill on corn chop but going down this morning I found them froze up. We got the Mill off again about 9 AM. I think I took fresh cold and fealing very bad. I went home & took about 15 grams Blue Mass. I felt very unwell all the evening. The rest of the family are all well. Friday, February 5 Weather not quite so cold today as it was yesterday. I stayed in the House under Sallie’s [--] care as she desired. The medisen operated quite freely today so I have felt better all day especially this afternoon and have had quite a good appatite. I feal I have ate too much. I have great reason to be thankfull for such a good Wife. Family all very well. Saturday, February 6 Weather quite cold & windy all day. I was out at the Mill all day at work. I feal something better but not quite well. We did some little crushing & grinding and sold some little. Sent E.L. Dorsey [--] Bbl flour to Baltimore at 6.50. Business quiet & the weather continues cold & dry. Family all very well. Sunday, February 7 Weather quite wintery all day. The ground was covered with snow this morning & continued snowing all day and a very cold day out. I did not go out of the house all day and spent the day reading a Book. I commenced last night of Dr. Woodards. I am fealing better today. Monday, February 8 Weather clear & cold with the ground covered with snow about 3 in deep. We done but very little grinding today too cold to run the Merchant Mill. Crushed & ground a little lot of corn for Z.M. Waters. Business quite dull today. We have all we can do to keep the Mills from freezeing up. All well Tuesday, February 9 Weather has been one of the coldest days we have had. I think the Dam is froze intirely up. We manage to keep the Mill Wheals clear so we can grind at any time but this is bad weather to grind wheat too dry & frosty. Had but very little business today too cold to get out. Family all well. Wednesday, February 10 Weather continues very COLD and dry. Last night is considered the coldest we have had this winter. The ground is still covered with snow. The water appears very low in the River. We got an order of 500# corn chop to go to Ellysville. Filled that order then went to grinding & shelling corn finished shelling all the corn on hand. Sallie is quite unwell this afternoon I hope nothing serious. Thursday, February 11 Weather cold and dry it snowed very hard last night. The ground had a new coat on it when I came out and snow some after day light. The ground is now covered about 6 in deep. Business dull. Did a little crushing & grinding today. Sallie was quite unwell all day confined to her bed. She has to work too hard. Friday, February 12 Weather continues very cold with the ground covered with snow and no appearance of any better weather soon. Business very dull and money very tite. Did some grinding in the Country Mill. Most of the Mills about here are froze up. We could run both Mills if it was necessary. Sallie is somewhat better today able to be about her business. Saturday, February 13 Weather quite pleasant over head but the walking is quite bad owing to the snow. Business was very slow today however sold some on time & took in about 6 Dollars. I discovered a leak under the wast gate this afternoon let the water out of the Race and fixed it temporally. The race is full of ice & very thick. The River & Dam is all froze over yet & very thick. All tolerable well only. Sunday, February 14 Weather rather pleasant overhead today. We had Preaching this afternoon Bro. Colb preached a very good sermon but owing to bad walking but very few were out. Today is the last Sabbath before Conference. It is supposed that he will be returned. He is liked very well. As far as I know a very Ernest good Preacher and I hope the good Lord will bless his work. Monday, February 15 Weather quite cold again with a brisk wind from the North part of the day. Beam & I worked again this morning to try and stop the leak at the waist gate but it appears that we did not do any good. We let in some water to do some grinding & ran the Country Mill the balance of the day. Sallie rec a letter from Mrs Trainor. They are all well but had a hard time during the flood. I am truely sorry for the people of Marysville. Tuesday, February 16 Weather continues very cold. We had to stop grinding this afternoon on account of the brake at the waist gate. John Wagner & I worked at it all the afternoon diging through the frozen ground to get to the leak. After getting through we found the wash quite extensive & I am afraid we will have quite a time to get dirt to fill it up as the dirt is all froze. My back is quite lame. Wednesday, February 17 Weather not so cold this afternoon but turned cold again after sun down. John, George, Charlie & I worked again at the leak at the waste gate got it checked a little so we could run the Country Mill. We are haveing a good deal of grinding now owing to all the Mills about here being froze up. I hope we may suceed in checking the water untill the ground thaws so we can fix it more substantial. I am not fealing well. Thursday, February 18 Weather continues very cold. We are haveing a great deal of trouble with the leak at the waste gate cant get dirt to stop it being all froze. We managed to grind some all day. I am in hopes that the weather will moderate so we can fix it. All pretty well. Friday, February 19 Weather quite wintery all day. It commenced to snow last night and snow all the forenoon today about 3 in fell. We could not do much grinding on account of the leak at the waste gate. It takes most of the water from us. Sent Thos. H. Hunt 500# Meal E. City @ 1.85 they pay freight. Also sold 3 Bbls R.R. Family to W.S. Robb at 6$ per Bbl. Family all pretty well. Saturday, February 20 Weather quite wintery all day snowing and raining. We are still troubled with the leak not haveing an opertunity owing to the weather to repair the brake. We are haveing plenty of grinding to do owing to the Mills being froze up. I am suffering considerable with cold in some of my [--]. The rest of my family are pretty well. Sunday, February 21 Weather cool but more pleasant today. No Church today so I did not go out of the House all day. Spent the day reading. I would like very much to have it so we could all attend Sabbath School. This part of the Country is very deficient in that respect. All pretty well. Monday, February 22 Weather very pleasant overhead all day and the snow is disappearing very fast. We managed to run the Country Mill all day today as the water is more flush on account of the melting of the snow. I am in hopes in a day or so to get to grinding wheat as we are most out of flour. Family all well. Tuesday, February 23 Weather warm but not quite as brite a day as yesterday more hasey but the snow disappeared faster. The River was pretty well up so we had aplenty of water notwithstanding the brake at the waist gate. We ran the Country Mill all day. Choped on the Plaster Bur while we took up the corn Bur for a grees coller. Business was dull today. Family all well. Wednesday, February 24 Weather foggy part of the day but quite warm. The River has been quite high all day and still late this evening. It has been quite a sight to see the ice brakeing up & ---ing off with the current. So far it has done us no harm. We have been grinding all day in the Country Mill. Ritter our Shoe Maker shot a large Otter measured 4 feet long from tip to tip. All well. Thursday, February 25 Weather rather changeable all day cloudy & rained a little rained some last night but not very hard. Water kept up all night & untill about noon today. Some of the ice went over the Dam last night & today but the most of it still remains. So far, as well as we know it has done us no harm thanks to the good Lord. We were busy all day in the Country Mill grinding. Sold one Bbl flour today. All well. Friday, February 26 Weather quite pleasant today. The River is about run down as the snow is gone. We got the Merchant Mill off today a little after noon and have been grinding and Boalting since. We got an order of 5 Bbls flour of Thos. H. Hunt & we just got to grinding in time to fill the order. We were about out of flour. Have a good deal of trouble ice. We cut the ice out of the wheal this morning. All well. Saturday, February 27 Weather pleasant but cooler then yesterday. We ran the Merchant Mill all day grinding & Boalting . We sent off 5 Bbls R.R. Family in Bags to Thos. H. Hunt Ellicott City at 5.50. W.T.. Dorsey brought us a load of corn 40 Bus. paid 70 cts very good white corn about the best we have had for some time. Business rather dull today except filling yesterdays order. Family all well. Sunday, February 28 Weather quite cold and windy. I did not get out of the House much today except in the afternoon. Charlie and I went to Church but the Preacher did not come so we had no Preaching. Had a very good turnout but all were disappointed. Sallie spent the evening at Mrs. Capt. Mercer. Family all very well. Monday, March 1 Weather quite wintery it commenced snowing just before I got up this morning and continued snowing untill about Noon and then turned to rain & hale. It fell about 4 in deep. We tried to run the Merchant Mill but had to stop on account of snow & ice & also the brake in the race bank. Business very dull on account of the weather. Tuesday, March 2 Weather quite pleasant over head as the Sun shown out most all day & caused the snow to disappear very fast but the walking is very bad. Could not do much in the Mills but we managed to run the Country Mill all the afternoon on corn. Wm. T. Dorsey brought another load of corn 40 Bus paid 70cts. I hung up my Meat this morning to smoke. Sent 300# Meal up the road this morning at 1.87 ½ . Family all well. Wednesday, March 3 Weather wintery most all day and freezeing. We ran the Merchant Mill all day grinding and Boalting. I had to stop and take out the Boalt to fix the Midlings purefire. Not much business today too bad to get out. Marian had one of his Horses brake his leg a day or so ago. He is trying to fix it. Late this evening it still looks wintery. All well. Thursday, March 4 Weather pleasant overhead but the ground is still covered with snow. It melted some today as the Sun was warm. We ran the Merchant Mill all day grinding & Boalting. Business was very light today. I commenced to Smoke our meat this morning. Family all well. Friday, March 5 Weather quite wintery all day snowing most all day. We ran the Merchant mill most all day. Stoped in the afternoon to do some grinding in the Country Mill. Expect to run it all night on account of the ice getting in the Race & gives us a great deal of trouble to get off in the morning. One load of wheat of 60 Bus came today. No. 1 wheat I paid 1.10 for it. Business was tolerable good today. Sallie was not very well today. Saturday, March 6 Weather quite pleasant today overhead but quite sloppy on account of the melting snow. It has about spoilt the sleighing. We ran the Merchanr Mill untill the middle of the afternoon then stoped to do some Country grinding. We ran late last night on Country work. Beam went on a visit this afternoon so I was alone in the Mill. Business not very brisk today. Family tolerable well. Sunday, March 7 Weather quite wintery all day snowing all the forenoon & rain and snow all the afternoon snow fell about 4 in deep. I did not go out of the house all day spent most of my time reading Museum of History. Sallie is not very well and has not been for several days. The rest of the family are pretty well. No Church today. Monday, March 8 Weather quite pleasant over head but very sloppy. I did not think I would let water in today on account of the snow in the Race but R.H. Dorsey brought over a load of yellow corn and I let in water to [--] it up then I kept on grinding corn Meal. Beam was away all day got home this evening. Family all well. Tuesday, March 9 Weather cloudy & damp but no rain. Warm enough however to thaw some but not as much as yesterday. We ran the Merchant Mill all day grinding and packing. Business dull except in feed and corn chop. Feed is in greater demand then flour and worth almost as much as fine flour. Family all well thanks. Wednesday, March 10 Weather pleasant except the walking is still very bad the snow is not all gone yet. Our time was very much broken all day. In the first place we got a bad choak in the flour conveyors but before we got through with that had to stop to grind some chop for J.L. Crook & the brake got so bad at the waste gate had to turn all the water out to fix that & got it so we got grinding in the Country Mill late. All well. Thursday, March 11 Weather quite pleasant all day except it was a little hazey. The snow & ice melting caused the River to rise & late this eve I went up to the Dam & I found a great deal of ice going over the dam but I hope that it will not ingure it. We ran both Mills all day commenced to grind over this afternoon. Business is rather slack today. All well. Friday, March 12 Weather quite pleasant & warm but as the ground on all shady sides are covered with snow & ice but the last day or two being so warm it is disappearing very fast. The River is quite high again today. It went down last night as it froze again. The days are warm but there being so much snow & ice as soon as the Sun goes down it gets cold & freezes. We ran the Merchant Mill all day on Mid. Family all well. Saturday, March 13 Weather cloudy but cleared off about noon & the Sun came out & it was quite pleasant. The ice has been brakeing up & going over the Dam. Considerable of snow on the North side of the hill yet. N.B. Duval the man that is living in the house above the store had a [--] this afternoon. He is makeing arrangements to leave for Texas. Business not very brisk this afternoon. All well. Sunday, March 14 Weather fogy in the morning and cool all day. No Church today so I was about home all day. I walked out on the Rail Road brought a large Turtle home with me I picked up on the Dam I think it will weigh about 25 or 30 lbs. We intend makeing soup of him. Family all well. Monday, March 15 Weather very foggy all the forenoon and part of the afternoon but it is warm & the snow & ice is disappearing very fast. We ran the Merchant Mill all day on Midlings. Got most through grinding over. Not very busy now. Family all well. Tuesday, March 16 Weather cloudy most of the day and cool. The snow & ice is till on the North sides of the hills. The water is not so high today. Mrs Azel Mercer is very low and has been for two Months. They thought she was dieing this morning. Sallie went over to see her this afternoon. We finished grinding everything on hand in the Merchant Mill got through late this eve. Family all well. Wednesday, March 17 Weather quite cool and windy all day. I went to the Mills this morning on business sold 12 Bbls flour will ship it tomorrow. Mrs Azel Mercer died last night to be berried tomorrow afternoon. She leaves a family of small children Thursday, March 18 Weather quite cool froze all day in the shade with a strong wind from the North. We put up and sent off to A.J.P. Tabler Ellicott City 12 Bbls flour 6 in Bags 6 in Bbls. Sold 2 other makeing all today 14 Bbls & 70 # flour. Afternoon we all went to Mrs. Azel Mercer’s funereal. Mr. Jas Hobbs officiated, quite a good turnout. Family all well. Friday, March 19 Weather cool and over cast it thawed but very little today. Snow and ice is still seen on the North sides of the hills. Charlie went agunning today the first time except a little while last evening shot six or eight Robins . Weather cold today & but little grinding must git (sic) to sawing next week. Family well. Saturday, March 20 Weather wintery all day raining & freezeing untill everything is covered with ice. We done nothing in Milling today except grinding a small grist of corn. Very dull & gloomy day. There is considerable of ice & some snow about yet. It has the appearance of a late Spring. I want to get to sawing Monday. All well. Sunday, March 21 Weather raining & freezeing all day untill everything was covered with ice. I did not get out all day spent my time reading. Today was not our Church day. Sallie is not so well for the last week or so. The rest of the family are all well. Monday, March 22 Weather quite cold froze all day in the shade. The Trees were all covered with ice & did not disappear today. Snow & ice is still seen on the North sides of the Hills. Some wheat came for exchange no grinding but we sawed all day. Capt. M.B. Duval started for Texas this eve with his family. All well. Tuesday, March 23 Weather not quite so cold as it was yesterday but cold enough to freeze part of the day in the shade. It was very cold last night a plenty of ice & some snow to be seen yet. We ran the Saw Mill all day had some trade in the Mill also. Family all very well. Wednesday, March 24 Weather quite wintery all day. It commenced to snow about day light this morning & continued up to noon and then for a while the Sun came out but soon clouded up and had some rain. Snow fell about 2 or 3 in deep but most all disappeared before night. We worked in the Saw Mill all day. Sallie is not very well this evening. Thursday, March 25 Weather quite cold & windy most all day yet the Sun was out most of the time. It did not thaw much today. We finished what sawing we had on hand got through about middle of the afternoon then went to choping corn. I commenced to inclose the lower part of the Plaster Mill to keep the dust of Plaster from waisting. All well. Friday, March 26 Weather cloudy most all day & it rained for a while in the middle of the day. I worked all day in the lower part of the Plaster mill fixing it up. Made a good job of it [--] to have been done long ago. Business very dull today. I am not fealing very well this eve have taken cold. Sallie is not well. Saturday, March 27 Weather quite pleasant today except it was a little windy part of the day. We ran the Country Mill all day. Business was very good today. Sold between 20 & 25 Dollars part cash the rest all good. I am fealing very anxious to sell out as I can not see my way clear to get out of debt. Family all well. Sunday, March 28 Weather quite pleasant which we can fully appreciate after so much bad weather. I spent the day about home. I did not go to Meeting this afternoon. I did not feel like going I spent most of the day reading. Some of the children went. The walking is bad & I am in want of close. All well. Monday, March 29 Weather quite pleasant. We ground corn for our selves all day. I fixed some of the Doors in the House above Store. Jas. Day is moveing in there today. We rent it at 5$ per Month including Cow pasture for one Cow. Business not very brisk today. We got the Plaster Mill ready to grind Plaster. All well. Tuesday, March 30 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto today to see about getting Lump Plaster. I made arrangements to get what Plaster we may want at $5.12 ½ per (2240) ton delivered on cars at Camden Station but will only order as we may want. 3 car loads is to come up next week. Also got the Mill Saw gummed(?) & set & files in good order for 2$. Returned again in the evening. All well. Wednesday, March 31 Weather pleasant all day but it looks like rain this eve. Not very busy today but had enough grinding in the Country Mill to keep running all day. I replaced the Mill Saw. I did not do much today yet I kept doing something all day. Sails amounted to $7.00 about half cash. I always feal better when I am busy. All well. Thursday, April 1 Weather very pleasant all day about the best day we have had since last fall. We made some repairs in the waist gate this forenoon before we let in the water then we done some grinding in the Country Mill. I put up a [--] Bed this afternoon and sewed my tomatoes & some cabage seeds. Business not very brisk today. All well. Friday, April 2 Weather quite pleasant most of the day then clouded up and commenced to rain & is now raining quite hard 7 o’clock. I went down the R. Road as far as Elysville walked between some of the stations sold some Meal & got the promise of some flour. I also tried to collect but did not get any. I returned in the evening by train. Family all well. Saturday, April 3 Weather quite pleasant. Business was very slack today with grinding alltho we ground corn all day for our selves. Sent Wm. Cleary 500# Meal at 1.85. W.H. Forsyth has been halling Logs all day will have to go to sawing if nothing happens next Monday. I spent most of the day fixing up at our House. Family all well. Sunday, April 4 Weather quite pleasant. Jacob, Charlie & I walked up as far as Dashane’s Mill Dam had a very pleasant walk. I spent the remainder of the day in the house reading. We had no Preaching today. Next Sabbath is the day in corse (sic). Family all well. Monday, April 5 Weather quite pleasant. I was very busy all day. Beam did not get back untill about noon. One car load of Plaster came up this morning. I sold 1500# Plaster about the first of the season. Sold 2 or 3 Bbls flour today. We ran the saw Mill most all day stoped in the evening to grind some corn. Family all well. Tuesday, April 6 Weather quite pleasant. We ground Plaster most all day got through about 5:30 then ground 6 Bus corn for Major Hood. Another load Plaster came up this morning. I unloaded it time enough to be ready to take the car out at noon. Made 3 or 4 sales amounting to 25.52. Took in $1.00 but I think it is all good old customers. Family all well. Wednesday, April 7 Weather a little windy & cool today. We ran the Saw Mill all day sawing lumber for W.H. Forsyth. We sent Jas. S. Gary & Son 5 Bbls flour today & 1 Bbl Capt. O. Worthington. Another load Plaster came up today the balance of my order 30 tons. George & Marian McComas started for Texas yesterday. I hope they may do well. Family well. Thursday, April 8 Weather pleasant except it was a little windy. We ran the Saw Mill all day except when we had to stop to attend to Plaster. We sent Wm. Davis 2 ½ tons Marriottsville also sold 1300 cash selling 10$ ton. We make about 4$ per ton including our work what we sell at home. Bus. to dealers not so much, about 3$. Family all well. Friday, April 9 Weather cloudy. Rained a little in the afternoon and got quite foggy about dusk. We finished what sawing we had on hand & then did a little grinding in the Country Mill. I planted my Onions this eve the first I have done in my garden. Business was quite dull today. Corn & wheat has gone up some 10 to 15 cts per Bus. All well. Saturday, April 10 Weather pleasant. I worked all the forenoon. Charlie helped me to fix up our garden. We planted Peas & sewed Lettis, Redishes & cabbage seed. We got an order about noon of Zimmerman & Shultz of 10 tons Plaster. We went at it first thing after dinner & ground 7 Baged most 5 tons of it. I want to get it ready by Monday. All well. Sunday, April 11 Weather pleasant. I could not get about much today. I am suffering very much with a pane in my right Hip & thy. I went to Church this afternoon but I suffered so much that I could not enjoy the sermon. Our young Preacher preached his first sermon. Appeared to please very much. I went to bed early this eve & Sallie put a pepper plaster on me. Monday, April 12 Weather cloudy all the forenoon and rained most all the afternoon. We have been very busy all day grinding Plaster & loading a car of 10 tons for Z & Shultz Sykesville. Did not get it quite loaded will finish first thing in the morning if nothing happens. My hip was quite painfull this morning but after I got to work it got easier. Tuesday, April 13 Weather has been quite wintery all day. When I got up this morning I found the ground covered with snow and it continued snowing most all day but did not lay long. We finished loading Z & Shultz load Plaster & it went off at noon. We kept busy all day takeing up T Bur grinding & fixing. All well. Wednesday, April 14 Weather quite cold last night and this morning. It snowed again last night and I found snow and ice when I came out this morning but it soon disappeared after the Sun came out. We were very busy all day with Plaster. Several teams were here & we had an order to fill of Wm. Cleary of 5125 Plaster. I sent Mr. Giese (?) the balance of his Bill for Plaster. All well. Thursday, April 15 Weather pleasant all the forenoon. In the afternoon it clouded up and thretening rain. We sent off Cleary’s Plaster today. We loaded it in a car on the mill sideing hoisted it up on the second floor and slid it in the car. We ground Plaster all day. A.B. Davis took another ton today. Plaster business was not very busy today. Jas. H. Hopkins sent us his Notes for 30 & 90 days 141.85. All well. Friday, April 16 Weather cool and windy. Our principal work today was sawing as we sawed all day. Sold some little plaster today. Aside from that business was dull. Uncle Gabe came to see us this evening. He is looking very well. I am suffering very much with a very severe pain in my right Hip & thy. The rest of the family well. Saturday, April 17 Weather quite cold all last night and all day. It froze ice last night and has been freezeing in the shade all day. We were busy all day in the Saw Mill sawing lumber for Henry Danner. We sold some plaster about 3 tons & some flour & feed to the R.R. men. I was very busy all day. Sunday, April 18 Weather quite cool it froze last night and all day today. I did not go about very much today as it was cold and I feal bad with the rhumatism in my right leg. I suffer very much with it can not sleep at night with it. The only time I can get releaf is when I am at work. Monday, April 19 Weather continues very cold and wintrey. It froze quite hard last night and has been freezeing all day. The Dam froze over last night. We were very busy all day sawing. Sold some plaster 1050#. Only a little load of wheat came in I paid 1.18 for it. I am still suffering very much with my leg rhumatism. Tuesday, April 20 Weather not quite so cold today at one time it was very pleasant but the wind commenceing to blow it got cold. We got through about noon sawing what Logs was on hand we then went to grinding plaster. A little lot of wheat came in paid 1.25 for it. I did not suffer so much last night & today with my Leg bad again tonight. Wednesday, April 21 Weather pleasant but too cold for the season it still freezes of nights. I see by the Paper a great deal of Fruit & vegetables are Kiled therby. We were not very busy today ground plaster untill noon. Ran both Burs on corn sold some plaster. We had our property Hood’s Mill advertised for sail today. I think it best to sell as I do not see how we can get out of debt otherwise. All well. Thursday, April 22 Weather pleasant yet the wind is cold it froze last night. We were not very busy today ground corn in the forenoon and Plaster in the afternoon. I rec a letter of J.S. Bowen and answered it. He is well. He offered to lend me some Money but I can get along without it at present. My Leg is still very panefull the rest of the family very well. Friday, April 23 Weather more pleasant today yet the wind as it is comeing from the North it is cold while the Sun is warm and pleasant. It froze some last night. We were not very busy today. We ground Plaster untill noon sold some little. I am still suffering very much with my Leg. We rec another letter of Banks wants money. Saturday, April 24 Weather quite pleasant for a while this morning but it clouded up & the wind blew from the North & rained & snowed some & got quite cold had frost again last night. Ground corn & plaster all day sold 5200# plaster getting 10$ per ton. My leg is still very painfull. Sunday, April 25 Weather pleasant except a little North wind frost still at night. I did not get out much today on account of my leg being so painfull with the Rhumatism. I kept as quiet as posible to try to get releaf but got very little. Sallie is complaining with pain in her side. I hope it is not anything serious. Monday, April 26 Weather pleasant except the cool North wind, frost again last night but light. We ground corn untill noon then we went to sawing. Sold 2 or 3 tons plaster today. I am suffering very much all day with my leg but I manage to get about and do my work. All the rest of the family the same. Tuesday, April 27 Weather cool and cloudy with a little rain in the evening. We finished sawing what logs was on hand then went to grinding corn. Sent 900 plaster & 300 Meal up the R. Road to T.M. Hall this morning. Sold 1700 at the Mill. Exchanged some wheat 6 Bus for flour & some corn. My leg is still painfull but not as bad I think. Wednesday, April 28 Weather wet and cloudy all day just what was needed a gentle good rain. We shelled what corn was on hand in the cob today and ground corn all day. Fifty odd Dollars came in today for plaster & flour furnished some time ago. My leg is still quite painfull. Sallie is something better the rest of the family well. Thursday, April 29 Weather cool most of the day and frost and ice last night. We were very busy all day. The Forsyths brought a load of corn 30 odd Bus to grind and we had an order for 1000# Meal and 10 Bbls flour. Sold 4 or 5 tons plaster so it kept us busy all day. My leg is still very painfull the rest of the family well. Friday, April 30 Weather pleasant except North wind. Ground plaster most all day. Sent Gary & Son 1000# Meal @ 1.90. Had another order of same partys for 1000 more tomorrow. I settled up with J.T. Beam this evening to date and promised him $12.00 per month untill further notice. I am still suffering very much with my leg. Business tolerable good at present. Saturday, May 1 Weather cloudy most of the day and thretening did rain some in the forenoon and rather cool. We sent Messers Gary & Son 1000# more of Meal today at 1.90. Ground Meal all day commenced early this morning. I am suffering very much this evening again with the Rhumatism it was better all the forenoon. Sallie is also complaining. Children all well. Sunday, May 2 Weather quite unpleasant all day cold & windy and it snowed some in the morning in Balto and other parts of Maryland but I did not see any here. I walked out a little today but my leg pained me so I did not go about very much. Sallie went up to Mrs. Capt. C. Mercer’s for a little while this afternoon. All well except my self. Monday, May 3 Weather more pleasant today yet it is cool for this time of the year. The wind prevales from the North which is cold [--] to so much ice & snow. We ran the com. Mill all day on corn for our selves. We sold some plaster & Meal today some of it to go up the R. Road. I am still suffering much with my leg the rest well. Tuesday, May 4 Weather cloudy and wet part of the day and not so cold. We were very busy all day with plaster principaly. Sold some flour, meal, corn chop &co. Sold 6 tons plaster and got an order for 10 tons of Z. & Shultz. I will try & get off to Balto tomorrow & get more plaster. My leg feals better today. Family well. Wednesday, May 5 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto today after plaster. I bought 30 tons delivered on cars at Camden Station at 5$ per ton. I suffered very much with my leg all day. I returned in the evening. All well except Sallie & myself. The children are all well. They were very busy while I was away. Thursday, May 6 Weather quite pleasant all day. One load of plaster came up. We ground plaster all day commenced to fill Z & S order of 10 tons. Sallie was taken quite sick this evening. Sent for Eliza & Dr. E. Warfield. I pray that nothing serious is the matter with her. May the good Lord restore her & bless her. Friday, May 7 Weather quite pleasant all day. We were very busy loading and grinding plaster. We got Z & Shultz car load of plaster ready to go down. Sallie was very sick all last night will miss carage. She is getting along very well under the circumstances. Eliza & Mrs. Capt. Mercer sat up with her all last night. I did not go to bed. I hope the worst is over. Saturday, May 8 Weather quite pleasant. We were very busy all the forenoon. Another load of lump Plaster came had it to unload take the Plaster Bur up and several wagons came for plaster. We grind & sell plaster now about as fast as we can grind it. I think Sallie is getting along very well but she is very weak and suffers some. I hope that she will soon be well again. Sunday, May 9 Weather quite warm the warmest day we have had this season and the first summer day we have had this season. Sallie is getting along very well excepting the after B. The Dr. came over and releaved her since she has been getting along better. Dr. E. Warfield is attending her. I did not go to Church this afternoon thought it best to stay at home. Monday, May 10 Weather not so warm today owing to it being cloudy most of the day but did not rain any excepting a little in the morning. Another load of plaster came up the last of the lot I ordered and I ordered 20 tons more. We were quite busy all day grinding & selling plaster. Sallie is getting along very well thanks to the good Lord. I am not fealing well. Tuesday, May 11 Weather quite pleasant. We were very busy all day grinding and selling plaster. We ran both Burs corn & plaster as we had some corn to grind. A little lot of wheat came in today. I am wanting wheat as we must get to grinding soon, out of family flour. Sallie is getting along very well. Sister Eliza and Mrs. Capt. C. Mercer is very kind to her. Wednesday, May 12 Weather quite pleasant except a little North wind. We did not grind plaster today as we have plenty on hand at present. Another load came up today we commenced to run up the wheat this morning and grind after dinner. I want to get some family flour as we are out. Sallie is doing very well last night & today thanks to the good Lord. Thursday, May 13 Weather quite pleasant. We had some frost last night but I do not think it done any harm. I got up early this morning let in water and then went to work in the garden. I planted my pole Beans, Squash, corn last week. We ground packed flour all day. I sold 1500# plaster today only. Another load Plaster came up the last I ordered. Sallie is getting along very well still in Bed. Friday, May 14 Weather quite pleasant. We were very busy all day ground & packed flour all the forenoon untill we had to stop & go to grinding plaster, very busy all the afternoon with plaster. They took it away about as fast as we could grind it. We sent Wm. Cleary 500# Meal at 1.95 we pay freight 3cts per 100. Sallie is getting along very well. She is up today but still in her Room. Saturday, May 15 Weather quite pleasant all the forenoon. It clouded up in the evening and sprinkled rain some. We ground plaster all day sold some. Want to get some ahead so we can go to sawing by Monday if posible. Sallie is getting along very well. She is still in her Room but up. The rest of the family are all well. I wrote to George today Texas. Sunday, May 16 Weather quite pleasant most of the day but in the evening got quite cool. We have frost about every night. John Wagner, Charlie & I walked out a little in the morning. The balance of the day I spent in the House reading. Sallie is still mending but still keeps her Room. Monday, May 17 Weather cool all day. Had a heavy frost and some ice last night but I do not think it done much harm. Today is out 16th anvers of marage. We worked in the Saw Mill all day sawing. Sold some flour & Meal also 500# plaster. I felt the misery in my leg all day today. Sallie is still on the mend. Tuesday, May 18 Weather quite pleasant but most too cool for the growing crops & very dry. We were quite busy all day in the Saw Mill. Sold some plaster 2500# and also filled an order of J.S. Gary & Son 10 Bbls flour @ 6.62 per Bbl & 800 # Meal at 1.95 per 100#. We stoped sawing after 4 O’clock and went to grinding corn. Sallie is still mending but still remains in her Room. Children well. Wednesday, May 19 Weather pleasant except North wind most all day. It was quite cool this forenoon. I did not see any frost last night. We worked in the Saw Mill all day ran the corn Mill all last night. Sold 3 tons plaster today. Sallie came down to tea this eve for the first time since she was taken sick. I feal very thankfull she is about again. Thursday, May 20 Weather warm but windy all day from the North. We worked in the Saw Mill most all day sawing. We took up the corn Bur in the later part of the afternoon & put a grees coller on then went to grinding corn. I am very busy now sawing some 3 or 4 sawing Logs. Sallie was down attending to her work all day. Plaster was not so brisk today. Friday, May 21 Weather quite pleasant it is fealing some like summer weather but it is very dry. I hope the good Lord will send us good gentle rains when it will suit his good pleasure. We ran the corn bur all day started about 2 or 3 o’clock this morning. Mr. R. Dorsey of C brought us two loads corn 70 Bus today @ 82cts per Bus. We ingaged his wheat at 1.30 per Bus. All well. Saturday, May 22 Weather quite warm and dry. We had to stop sawing this morning & go to grinding Plaster. We have to keep some ground on hand. Sold 2100# today. Also filled an order of E. Norris Ellicott City of 5 Bbls in Bags @ 5.75 per Bbl. Sallie is getting along very well as also all of us. Sunday, May 23 Weather pleasant and warm in the Sun. About home all the morning. Afternoon went to Preaching at Watson Chapple Bro. Clem preached. Sallie is not able to walk up but she is able to attend to her affares about the house. The weather continues very dry rain is very much needed for growing crops. Monday, May 24 Weather warm but pleasant in the Shade. We ran the saw Mill all day excepting when we had to stop to take in a load of wheat & corn. I ingaged R. Dorsey of C wheat @ 1.30 & he commenced to hall it today. I planted out some more of Tomatoes this eve. Family all well. Tuesday, May 25 Weather cloudy & wet most of last night & all the forenoon today just what is so much needed. We ran the Saw Mill untill the Mail went down 3-30 O’clock then we stoped to do some grinding in the Country Mill. I rec a letter of George from Texas today. I planted out some more Tomatoes & Cabbage this eve. Family all very well. Wednesday, May 26 Weather quite warm. We were very busy all day grinding wheat and also ran the Saw Mill. Mr. R. Dorsey of C brought another load of wheat over today we ran both Mills all day. If we take all his wheat we will have enough flour to last us till harvest. I worked in my garden untill after dark and lost my Pocket Book but found it again after some trouble. Thursday, May 27 Weather warm and pleasant good growing weather after the rain. R. D. of C. brought another load of wheat over today. We ran both Mills all day. . We are very busy sawing now for Azel Warfield most of his sawing is inch plank & slats 1X3. I was very busy all day and I am quite tired tonight. Family all well. Friday, May 28 Weather quite pleasant. We ran both Mills all day Merchant & Saw Mills but the water is very low in the River. John Wagner is whitewashing the Mills. It very much needed it and is looking much better with the whitewash on it. Mother Slicer came up this evening. She is looking first rate. All well. Saturday, May 29 Weather pleasant. Had a gust in the after part of the day but more wind then rain about here. I had to stop sawing & go to grinding corn. J.S. Gary & Son ordered 5 Bbls flour & 2000# Meal sent all the Meal ground 600# & the flour will send the balance of Meal Monday. Water got so low we had to stop the Merchant Mill in the evening. All well. Sunday, May 30 Weather pleasant. I am suffering very much with a misery in my back so I did not go about very much today but stayed at home and read all day. Mother walked up to see Mrs. Mercer in the evening she is looking very well and appears to enjoy herself very much. Monday, May 31 Weather pleasant the nights are cool it is said there was frost last night but I do not think it did any harm. We ran one bur on wheat and the corn Mill all day on corn for our selves. Sent J.S. Gary & Son the balance of his 2000# Meal today. I was not able to do much today on account of my back. Family all well. Tuesday, June 1 Weather pleasant but is getting dry again. Ran one bur on wheat & the corn Bur all day. One load of wheat came & one load of Bbls. Business rather slack today. My back is fealing very bad yet. Sallie put a Rosm (?) on it. I got the gum from a pine tree. John is whitewashing our house. Family all well except myself. Wednesday, June 2 Weather pleasant and thretening rain did rain a little early this morning & eve. Rain is needed now if it will please the good Lord to send it. We had two orders for Meal today of 500# each. One order to go down the R. Road & one up. Ran the Merchant Mill all day one Bur. One load wheat came & some Logs. My back is still very weak. Thursday, June 3 Weather pleasant thretening rain but failed. We were not very busy today. Dorsey brought over the last of his wheat & 12 Bus came for exchange. Had two orders for Meal filled. One for T.M. Hall the other will fill tomorrow. Ground meal all day also ran the Wheat Bur on wheat. Dr Hammond with a Gentleman of Pa came up to see the Property. I am still unwell the rest of the family well. Friday, June 4 Weather pleasant. We were not very busy today alltho we did some Business ran the Mill all day. I am fealing very unwell today. We got another of Mr. Banks thretening if the balance due on the Mortgage is not paid by the first of July next will foreclose the same. I don’t know what will be the result or what to do about it. I went to Sykesville this afternoon walked back. Saturday, June 5 Weather pleasant. We had quite a heavy gust of Rain & hale. The water got up in Jacob’s Basement, washed my garden some & Broke a large lim of the Apple Tree in the garden but we all got off very well. We sold some flour, Meal & Plaster. I wrote to Dr. J.S. Bowen to meet me in Balto next Tuesday. I want his advice in regard to selling out here. Family all well. Sunday, June 6 Weather pleasant cloudy most of the day but no rain. We had an all day meeting at Watson today preaching morning and afternoon with prayer Meeting Love Feast &co. Bro. Ward Preached and Br. Justest in the afternoon very good attendance. I am still fealing quite unwell my back is still quite weak the rest of the family all well. Monday, June 7 Weather cloudy and showery most all day and is doing much good to the growing crops. We fixed a brake in the tale race the first thing this morning then went to grinding wheat. Bus not very brisk today. Mr. H. Danner halled some more Logs today. I want to go to Balto tomorrow on business to see Mr. Banks in regard to the claim he holds against our property. Tuesday, June 8 Weather pleasant. I went to Balto today to see Dr. J.S.B. and Mr. Banks in relation to our property. We have concluded to advertise & sell at public sail in about one Month’s time. We think under the surcumstances it will be better to sell. Bowen agrees with me. I got what things we wanted and returned in the evening. Beam ran the Merchant Mill all day. Wednesday, June 9 Weather pleasant cool in the evening a little cloudy all day. We were not very busy but we ran shelled what corn on hand and ground some Meal and ran one Bur on wheat all day & packed some flour sold some plaster about 1100#. We are makeing arrangements about getting up the advertisement about our property & have part of it surveyed. Family all well except my back. Thursday, June 10 Weather pleasant in the shade but warm in the Sun. We ran the Merchant Mill and corn Mill finished grinding wheat will grind over now clean up then go to sawing. We are most out of corn & I can not get any for less then 1$ per Bus higher here then it is in Balto. My back is something better but not strong yet. All well. Friday, June 11 Weather pleasant. We are grinding over now ran all day. Ground some also for Cavel Willis. I worked about the Mill all day. I feal something better now but I still have the misery in my back. Ella & Charlie rec a letter from George today from Texas. He is well. Business very dull today hope it will get better soon. I expect to go to Balto tomorrow to put the advertisement in the Sun Paper. All well. Saturday, June 12 Weather cloudy & wet most all day. I went to Balto today on the first trane to attend to the advertising of our property at Hood’s Mill. Had it inserted in the daily Sun twice a week for 10 weeks at 33.60 and 300 Handbills 3.75. I stoped at Ellicott City and sold 17 Bbls flour 12 family & 5 Ex to be shiped Monday next. I came up from there on the last train. All well. Sunday, June 13 Weather cool and pleasant. I was at Home all day except a little walk up as far as the Dam. I spent most of my time reading. We had no preaching today not preaching day we only have preaching once in two weeks. It is very pleasant now in the country as everything is in bloom. Family all pretty well. I am not fealing altogether well. Monday, June 14 Weather quite pleasant a little hazey just enough to make it pleasant. We ran the Mills or part of them today. We want to get to sawing tomorrow. Major C.W. Hood surveyed the Depot property & the lot that of the House that S.S. Spaulding ocupyes. The Handbills came up today. The Sail takes place on the 20th of next Month. I hope that things will go to please us. All well. Tuesday, June 15 Weather quite pleasant. We ran the Saw Mill all day. Sold some plaster 1500#. We are not very busy now but we have some fixing up to do before Harvest. I wrote to the Rev. C.L. Fisher this eve. Will send him 3 or 4 handbills of the sale of our property. I am fealing better now. Wednesday, June 16 Weather quite pleasant. We ran the Saw Mill all day & got through with what Logs is on hand. Business very good today. We had two orders for Meal today but could not fill them cant get corn. They want 1$ Bus but I have the promise of 2 or 3 hundred bus at 85cts by the last of the week or first of next. Family all well Mother is with us. Thursday, June 17 Weather warm but pleasant in the shade. I went to Balto today to post my Hand Bills I felt pretty tired with my days work. I saw James he is laying brick is looking well. Bus is dull in Balto so they say. I returned in the evening glad to get home. I hope we may always have a home to go to. All well. Friday, June 18 Weather pleasant cloudy most of the day thretening rain. We had a good rain last night. I went up the R. Road as far as Woodbine to try and collect some old Bills. I collected 2 Bills one of 8.57 & one of 22$. Business very good today we did not do any grinding today will have to get to sawing again soon. I feal quite tired this eve I walked about 10 miles today. Family all very well. Saturday, June 19 Weather quite pleasant. A load corn came this morning paid 85cts per Bus about Balto price. We commenced to grind corn then Gary & Son ordered 5 Bbls flour & 500# Meal. Sent him the flour and what Meal were grinding 400#. Also ground plaster this afternoon. Bus tolerable good today. We are haveing good growing weather now. Family all well. Sunday, June 20 Weather pleasant. There was preaching today at Watson by a local preacher but I did not go was at home all day some of the Children went very few out. I spent most of the day reading. Sallie & Mother is not able to walk up so they have to stay home. All well. Monday, June 21 Weather pleasant. We ran the corn Bur all day on corn. One load corn came 60 odd Bus. Paid the same as the last 85 per Bus. Business not very brisk today. I planted out some cabage & tomatoes in the evening. I am not fealing very well. I am trying to stop chewing tobacco thinks that does not agree with me. The rest of the family all well. Tuesday, June 22 Weather quite pleasant. We ground Meal till after Breakfast then we ran the Saw Mill got through with what logs were on hand. We are not haveing much to do now. Business not very brisk now. The farmers are all busy at home. Today being pay day on the R.R. I took in some money. Mother got word that Andrew is very sick Paralized. I wrote Charles. Wednesday, June 23 Weather quite warm. We had some rain last eve & the garden is looking fine. Business very good today. Sent away 800 Meal & sold several good bills for cash at the Mills. Azel Warfield halled 9 Logs today we went to sawing as soon as they came. I fixed two Buckets in the overshot wheal & we took up the corn Bur. Family all well. Thursday, June 24 Weather quite warm even in the shade and hot in the Sun & very warm last night. We ran the Saw Mill all day. Had some little trade for flour, feed and Plaster most all cash sails. Andy Slicer is very low paralised. They want Mother to come in. I dislike very much to see her go away. My family all well my back is better. Friday, June 25 Weather quite warm. We had gust in the evening but most of it went around us. We ran the Saw Mill all day got through with what Logs were on hand will go to grinding corn tomorrow. Andrew is something better so Mother did not go in as she expected. Business not very lively today. Family all well. Saturday, June 26 Weather continues very warm & getting dry again. We leveled and Trained the corn Bur this morning them went to grinding corn. Business not very brisk today. The farmers are all busy getting ready for Harvesting wheat some have commenced cutting. The prospects for good crops is very flatering at present corn is looking very fine. Andrew is still about the same. Mother is still with us. Sunday, June 27 Weather very warm & dry. No Church today. I was about home all day except in the evening. We all went up to Capt. C. Mercer’s. Mother Slicer went with us,. I spent most of the day reading but found it very hot work. A lite shower came up in the evening but did not rain much here. Family all well. Monday, June 28 Weather continues very warm & dry about Hood’s Mill but I don’t think things are suffering very much my garden is looking very well. The Potato bugs are giveing us some trouble. Charlie & I walked to Sykesville & back today. I went down to try and collect but did not sucseed. I wrote to W.C. Swain, Cal. & Dr. J.S. Bowen. Ran corn Mill all day. All well. Tuesday, June 29 Weather warm & dry. We had a little shower in the evening most of it went around but we did not get very much of it. We ground corn all day. Filled an order today of J.S. Gary & Son of 15 Bbls family flour & 2000# Meal. Aside from that business was dull. I want to go to Balto tomorrow to pay 150$ interest money that is what takes all our money. Mother is not very well. Andy the same. Wednesday, June 30 Weather pleasant not quite as warm as yesterday. We had a good shower last eve & in the night. I went to Balto today to pay an Interest Note of Lyons of $150.00. I saw James he is working at Bricklaying now. I returned in the evening. Mother went home this afternoon she wants to be with Andrew. He appears to be better. Family all well.
