He has kept me & mine through another year safe and but very little sickness. The weather has been very wintery again today has been snowing most all day off & on at about 9 this evening snow is about 18 in deep the deepest snow we have had for a long time, they say since 1856. We cant do any grinding untill the weather brakes. Business was very dull all day. Family all well. Tuesday, January 2 Weather very wintery snow about 20 in deep and drifted in some places much deeper than that. Wheat and flour is on the Rise. We have put flour up to 7.25 per Bbl in Bags. Business very dull did not do scarcely anything today. Took no cash in in fact the snow is so deep no one can get about. There is so much snow & ice in the Race I am afraid it will be sometime before we can run. Wednesday, January 3 Weather continues very wintery so much so we are afraid to let the water in yet have not ground any since last Friday evening & from appearances I am afraid it will be sometime yet before we do any thing. I am afraid will run out of flour & Meal &c. Business dull but just as well it is so as we cannot grind any. The snow does not melt any. Family all well. Thursday, January 4 Weather continues very wintery but with very little appearance of change. My Stock of ground flour & Meal &c is getting very low. I am afraid will run out intirely before it gets so I can grind but I am hopeing for the best. The good Lord does all things well. Our trade was tolerable good today. All well. Friday, January 5 Weather not quite so cold after the sun got pretty well up but is cold enough thought [thaw?] but very little. I am very much afraid the winter will be very long or at least this cold spell. I am afraid I will run out of flour but I am hopeing for the best. Business was quite good today. We are out of Hominy & almost out of Meal. Family all well. Saturday, January 6 Weather continues wintery and no sign of Moderation. It has been snowing & haleing again this evening. It is hard to tell what the weather will be in the morning. Thomie went to Ellicott City today. I am very much afraid we will run out of flour Meal &c. but I do hope the weather will moderate soon. The last of the Meal went out today. All well. Sunday, January 7 Weather changed considerable since yesterday. It rained most all last night and turned warmer and melted the snow considerable. About one or two in the afternoon I started the Mill on corn. I thought it best to do so as we were about out of Meal & the weather so unsertain. I hope I did not do [--]. I had but very little to do. All well. Monday, January 8 Weather more pleasant then it has been but not quite as warm as it was yesterday. We ran all last night & today on corn getting some on hand & I am very glad of it. Want to run all night tonight then tomorrow on something else. Thomie is away Charlie is helping me. Business tolerable good. Family all well. Tuesday, January 9 Weather cold all day thawed but very little all day. We are still running on corn. Ran all night but the water is getting very low the race is nearly froze through to the Bottom. I went to Frederick today to pay Taxes, Inshurance and to get a Trough made to put under the Master Wheal to keep the wheal out of water also to get [--] for the House. N. Worthington commenced to deliver wheat at 1.32 ½. Wednesday, January 10 Weather still wintery but not so much as it has been. We ran all last night and till this afternoon. We had to stop to fasten a bolt in the Master Wheal and stuck fast & it will take a best part of a day to get her loose again. N. Worthington is still halling wheat 3 loads today. I am very anxious for the weather to brake. All well. Thursday, January 11 Weather cold and freezeing most all day. We worked on the wheal all the forenoon cutting ice got her loose about Noon but did not start on account of the Trough I ordered in Frederick not getting down. Thomie went after it. I want it to keep the water from the Master Wheal. Mr. N. Worthington finished halling his wheat today. I settled with him for it. All well. Friday, January 12 Weather thretning commenced to rain in the evening. Tomie went to Frederick to get the trough made larger got back just before dark. We put it in at once and I think it will be an improvement. We ran on wheat all night & today & want to keep write on now as long as the weather will purmitt. We sent some flour & feed away today. All well. Saturday, January 13 Weather more pleasant has been thawing all day. We ran all last night on wheat have been makeing Hominy all day & will or expect to be at it most all night. If the weather continues favourable for a while we will be able to catch up again. I was very busy all day with the Hominy Mill. Sunday, January 14 Weather wintery but not so much so as it has been. I felt very tired today so I did not go away from home. I was beating Hominy all last night & yesterday and it kept me very busy. I had about 20 [--] to Beat. I got through with them. There was preaching this afternoon. Charlie went. Family well. Monday, January 15 Weather rather changeable it was snowing very hard this morning about 4 o’clock then it turned to Hale & from that to rain. I was up again all last night. I commenced to grind at Midnight. I had a good head water & got a good lot of grinding done all country work. Have been running up & cleaning wheat then went to grinding wheat. Business good. Tuesday, January 16 Weather more like the brakeing up of the winter then we have had for 2 Months. It was foggie this forenoon the snow & ice disappeared very fast all day and the water is very good all we need. Have been grinding wheat all last night & today. Business has been tolerable good for the last few days. Family all well. Wednesday, January 17 Weather wintery again it snowed quite hard most of the day but it does not feal that we will have very much at present. We were very busy all day grinding exchangeing &c. A lot of Buckwheat came from Davis Mill. We have all we can do at present. Business not so good today Thursday, January 18 Weather clear today and has been thawing slowly just what is needed to prevent high water thanks to the good Lord. We are still very busy we are haveing a great deal of grinding to do owing to so many mills being disabled. We started two Burs this evening one on Bwheat one on corn & they are doing very well. Friday, January 19 Weather pleasant the snow is disappearing very fast. The water is very good not too low or too high. Mr. C. Hendry was berried today. He had a very large funereal but I could not go. Tomie went. We are still grinding night and day. A great deal of corn is comeing to be ground & crushed. I am very glad to see it come. Trade was tolerable good. All well. Saturday, January 20 Weather turned warm with some rain and caused the snow and ice to disappear very fast & has caused quite a rise in the stream. The water is very high in the Race. I am fearfull the Race bank will give away in some places. We have been very busy all day crushing & Beating Hominy. All well. Sunday, January 21 Weather cool and wintery ground covered with snow excepting the sunny side of hills which is pretty all gone. I felt very tired so I did not go away from home. I took quite a walk this morning after breakfast. We ran up to 12 last night & expect to start at 12 tonight. Mrs & Mr Sellman spent the afternoon with us. Monday, January 22 Weather very wintery all day. It commenced to snow this morning about 3 o’clock and continued all day pretty much. We started up at about 12 last night & have been running all day & expect to run all night. Business not very brisk today. All well. Tuesday, January 23 Weather pleasant over Head but the ground is covered with snow. The last snow was about 8 in deep. We were quite busy all day as it was Pay Day on the R Road. We have a very good trade with the R Road Men. We ran all night last night and today on wheat & expect to run tonight. We are getting pretty well up with our grinding. All well. Wednesday, January 24 Weather quite wintery again. Today the wind got around to the North West and caused it to be quite cold. Did not thaw very much today. We were quite busy today grinding corn & running up & cleaning wheat. W.H.B. Dorsey of Mt. Airy came down paid off his Bill in full & got 5 bbls more flour at 7.60 & 7.25 in Bags. Family all well. Thursday, January 25 Weather cold but clear it froze in the shade all day. We are still running night & day. Ran all last night on corn & today on Midlings & Hominy. I done some spouting between times. I put some lower spout from Country Boalt to the Packer & a short spout in the upper part of Mill so we can run corn to Hominy Burr. All well. Friday, January 26 Weather pleasant over head but the ground is covered with snow yet. Charlie & I went to B(?). Montgomerys sale and bought a few things one small feather Bed about 30”, 2 chares, 2 [--] [--] & some Broom cane & Pitchfork. We did not stay late. We are grinding over feed all day & expect to run all night on it. Business just tolerable good. All well. Saturday, January 27 Weather quite pleasant today caused the snow and ice to disappear very fast. We are still running nights as well as the day we want to get ahead some for fear of another freeze. We are haveing a great deal of crushing and grinding to do. I am thankfull for it. Business just tolerable good. Family all well the Lord be praised. Sunday, January 28 Weather pleasant but there is plenty of snow yet on the ground. There is pretty good sleying yet. We had preaching this afternoon by Thos Crawford. No Sabbath School untill the weather gets better. I spent most of the day about the House reading before and after meetings. We are all glad to see a change in the weather. Family all well. Monday, January 29 Weather quite pleasant over head. It is getting quite muddy owing to the snow thawing. I was alone all day in the Mill. Tomie went to Frederick. I had one or two orders to fill and a load corn came of Mr.James Montgomery. Mr. J.E. Dorsey came up to see me today would not take dinner with us. Went back on the mail. All well. Tuesday, January 30 Weather pleasant the snow and ice is disappearing very fast. We have been grinding Buckwheat most all day for our self except one bag full. I rec a letter Mr. James S. Gary & Son priceing flour. I wrote them. I have been busy all day fixing up some spouting to let the Rye down to the Bur. Business not very brisk today. All well. Wednesday, January 31 Weather soft and partly cloudy and commenced to rain in the evening. We are still running night and day but we have but little grinding on hand to do except out own. Have been grinding & packing Rye flour all last night & most of today then turned on wheat. Will run all night on that Lord willing. Oh that He will make my duty plane & help to fullfill it is my prayer. Thursday, February 1 Weather pleasant the snow & ice is disappearing very fast caused the water to be up considerable but I hope it will not do any damage. We got our order of James S. Gary & Son of 10 Bbls family today @ 7.85 delivered. We have been running on wheat all night and all day have been packing all day. Family all well.. Friday, February 2 Weather has been cloudy & wet part of the day. It is what is called a good ground Hog day as the Sun was nearly darkened all day. I hope we will have good weather. We finished grinding wheat for the present & then done some country work. Got through about night so we are not very busy we will not run tonight. Business not very brisk today. All well. Saturday, February 3 Weather quite pleasant today. The indications are good weather now as we had a good Ground Hog day. We did not run last night as we are not very busy now. Have been running all day on custom work. Thomas & Charlie hung up the meat today over halling some of Geo. Rineharts work. All well. Sunday, February 4 Weather pleasant. I stayed about home most of the day excepting in the forenoon. I took a walk down the R Road a mile or so then went across the feels & back home but I find the walking bad yet in places. There was class but I did not go in fact I did not know there was to be class. Family complaining with colds. Monday, February 5 Weather cloudy and rained some through the day. I was alone in the Mill today Thomas sent me word he was sick. I was not very busy yet business was very good. I have been grinding Rye and corn all day. I sent a sample to Balto .to see what it is worth. Willie & Maud have something like Hooping cough & most all have colds. Tuesday, February 6 Weather cool and a little hazy all day. I was alone most all day. Thomas came home in the evening he is not well. Business was rather dull today but I did not mean to complain. I had enough to keep me busy most of the time. I have been grinding Rye all day packing it. I want to get it ground & try to sell it. All well except colds. Wednesday, February 7 Weather pleasant a little like Spring weather. We have been grinding Rye all day. We have had quite a good day of it for orders. J. S. Gary & Son ordered 10 Bbls of flour more @ same 7.85 & two others ordered feed. Mr. Thos Crawford halled about 90 Bus white corn at 48cts very good corn. I was only offered 4.50 per Bbl for my Rye flour delivered in Balto too low. Thursday, February 8 Weather cooler then yesterday. I went to Balto today. I went by way of Catonsville to see Mr. Fusting got 10$ of ap then went to Balto and attended to what Business I had to do & returned home. I sold 10 Bbls Rye flour at 4.75 per Bbl delivered in Balto that was the very best I could do. I also went out to the Hominy Mill for some information. All well. Friday, February 9 Weather pleasant but a little cooler then it was a few days ago. We are still grinding rye but are about through. We sent off 12 Bbls of it today all we had packed or about all we can spare from our [--] trade. Sent it to Mr. Geo. M. Ehrman at 4.75 delivered. That is the top of the market. Business was very good today but most all away from home. All well. Saturday, February 10 Weather pleasant. Have been grinding corn all day. We are not very busy now & do not run all night. Business was rather dull today. I tryed with the help of Mr. Williams to get some drift out of the River about the Dam. It is turning the stream. We succeeded in getting part only will have to try & get the rest out when the water gets warmer & lower. All well. Sunday, February 11 Weather pleasant. I was about home all the forenoon excepting I took a little walk. In the afternoon we had preaching at our little Church by Rev. Feelmyer and it was his last Sabbath before Conferance We had a very good turn out and a very good sermon. At home in the evening. All well Monday, February 12 Weather pleasant. I started the Mill at 5 this morning & have been grinding with the country Bur all day. I missed it very much in not haveing more wheat when it was so cheap but I did not know what to do. I went up to Mr. Jarboe’s to pay Interest Money 165$. Business not very brisk today. All well. Tuesday, February 13 Weather cool the wind got around to the North last night & blew very strong & caused it to get quite cold. We are not running at nights now as we are not very busy but ran all day. We ground corn today. Business was rather dull today but I have no reason to complain. I want to learn to be content. Family all well. Wednesday, February 14 Weather continues cold freezes quite hard of nights in fact it has froze all day in the shade. We have been grinding wheat all day. Trade has been very good today in fact I am afraid I will not be able to get wheat to supply my demand. Wheat is getting high and scarce. I am very sorry I did not get more while it was low but we cant tell what is always fpr the best. All well. Thursday, February 15 Weather pleasant but cool but rather has the appearance of dry weather. I engaged about 300 bus wheat today of Mr. N. Worthington at 1.45 cash and give him untill the last of March the benefit of the rise if there be any. Business was not very brisk today. We have been grinding over all day. Family all well. Friday, February 16 Weather more pleasant today and has the appearance of rain. Business was very dull all day very little to do but we kept doing something. Ground the two chests full then took the Bur up washed & dressed it. I fixed the corners of the corn House also. I am in hopes business will get better soon. We started smoke under the meat today. All well. Saturday, February 17 Weather quite cool and windy all day. We Beat hominy untill after noon then we did some country work. Grinding is rather slack with us at present but I am in hopes it will be better soon. I engaged about 50 Bus wheat today at 1.40. I am in hopes that we will not run out of wheat. Business is not very brisk very little doing. All well. Sunday, February 18 Weather very cold and windy so much so I did not get away from home all day. I spent the time reading. I believe there was class and also prayer meeting in the evening. I did not go but I must attend more regular when the weather gets more pleasant. Ella, Charlie & Willie went over to Mr. Williams in the evening. [---- ----} Monday, February 19 Weather not quite so cold as yesterday. We have been grinding wheat all day & packing. We had nothing else to do. Business is not very brisk. I want to put a wire chrean(?) to the Hominy Mill I commenced it today but did not do much. I have not fully desided how I will Gear it yet. My American miller came today. Tuesday, February 20 Weather cool but not so cold as it was a day or so ago not so much wind. We were quite busy the later part of the day. It was pay day on the R Road. I have quite a good trade with the R Road men but I may not keep them long there trade is very much sought after. We have been grinding wheat all day & packing. Family all well. Wednesday, February 21 Weather quite pleasant. Some call it cool it freezes at nights. We have been tolerable busy all day about half of the day on crushing & grinding corn. About 50 Bus wheat came by Mr. Riggs tolerable good wheat at 1.40 per Bus. business was tolerable good had some orders and some to pay there Bills. Mr. N. Worthington took Bags for wheat. All well. Thursday, February 22 Weather very pleasant today. Being Washington’s Birthday it is a holoday yet I had to stay about the mill all day and work. First thing I done in the morning I painted my Tin Roof Porch at Mill. Tomie went away. Charlie stayed with me. 2 loads wheat came in the afternoon of N. Worthington so that with some grinding kept us quite busy. Business was also tolerable good. All well. Friday, February 23 Weather cloudy and commenced to rain late in the afternoon. Mr. N. Worthington has been halling wheat all day has one more load to hall. We did not have much grinding to do today but ran up the wheat as it came. I was down to see old Mr. Sellman this eve. He is very low I do not think he wil be with us long. Saturday, February 24 Weather cloudy and wet part of the time. It snowed last night & if it had not been so wet it would have been 3 or 4 in deep. I went to Frederick today to arrainge my Bank apc so I can check on them as we are getting in some wheat & I want it settled for as soon as delivered. I also ordered some little mashinery for hominy Mill. I have not finished it yet. Business tolerable good. Sunday, February 25 Weather rather cold and windy all day. I was called just after breakfast to old Mr. Sellman’s Bed side to see the poor old man breathe his last on Earth. He died about two hours after I arrived. He knew me when I first came. Mr Aden Anderson & I were the only strangers present when he died. He went off very easy. I have every reason to believe he was a good Man. May the good Lord bless him. Monday, February 26 Weather cool and a little windy. I went to the funereal of Mr. Sellman noon today at the Ijamsville Church was berried at Frederick. Sallie & some of the children were also present. Mr. N.J. Worthington finished halling his wheat. I settled with him for it. Business just tolerable good today. Have been grinding wheat all day & packing. We almost all have colds. Tuesday, February 27 Weather pleasant. I went to Frederick today on some business about some mashinery [--] the Hominy Mill. While I was away an order came from J.S.G. & son for 20 Bbls family & 200 BW Meal. That will about wine up the BW Meal for the season. Mr. Ehrman sent a check for the Rye flour today. Has been a very good day. All well. Wednesday, February 28 Weather pleasant the wind is cool however. Business was tolerable good that is exchangeing and grinding. A large load corn came to be crushed & ground will do that the last of the week. We worked most all day on the flour Elevator giveing it an over halling from top to bottom. We then went to grinding wheat. I must try and get in more wheat. Family all well except colds. Thursday, March 1 Weather pleasant. I commenced this morning to mend the Bank just above the Dam. It had broke away in severeal places one place very bad but we checked the water and mend a good fill of it. I had 3 men with me & we got it all done. J.S.G. & Son ordered 5 Bbls more flour today & 500 Meal send that tomorrow. Running on wheat all day. Friday, March 2 Weather raining all day pretty much. We just got our Race bank done in time. Have been running all day wheat in the forenoon & crushing & grinding the balance of the day. They have got through at Washington with the presidential contest and have Elected Hayes and Whealer Republicans. Well I hope it may be for the best but I am afraid not they are not my choice. All well. Saturday, March 3 Weather a little cloludy but no rain the wind blew quite hard last night at times. C.C. Cesil House burned down last night and lost everything he had about the House. We was busy all day on country work principally. We have a very good country trade. Exchangeing is quite an item with us both wheat & corn Hominy &c.. Family all well except colds. Sunday, March 4 Weather cool but clear and some wind. I took a short walk up the crick in the morning but spent the balance of the day in the House reading. Most of the reading was of Foobes(?) works. I am very fond reading his works. I did not go away from home except the short walk this morning all day. Family all well. Monday, March 5 Weather cool but pleasant except some wind. Business was very slack today. We ran the country Bur all day part of the time on corn for our selves. The work from the foundry for the Hominy Mill churn came at noon today. I commenced on it. I want to get it up as soon as I can. All well. Tuesday, March 6 Weather cool but pleasant. I worked all day on the Hominy churn will soo have it ready to go up. Mr. John Doll brought up the wire for me for the churn. Running on corn all day. Mr. John Williams commenced to deliver some wheat this eve. It is very good wheat will have to pay about 1.45 I expect. Business not very brisk today but no reason to complain. Wednesday, March 7 Weather pleasant but has the appearance of rain. Mr. John T. Williams finished halling wheat had 316 Bus at 1.45 $458.20. I gave a check for it. I worked between times on the corn churn for Hominy Mill. Tomie grinding Mid & feed over all day & also beating Hominy part of the time. We have a good lot of wheat now on hand. I hope the prices wont fluctuate much. All well. Thursday, March 8 Weather cloudy some rain in the morning but warm. I went to Frederick on Business. I went & returned on the trane. Quite lively in Town Conference is in Session. Business was not very brisk today. Finished grinding over Midlings & feed. We are not very busy now or at least do not have much grinding to do. Wheat is rather on decline so is corn the latter is 43 in Frederick today. All well. Friday, March 9 Weather very changeable and very windy blew very hard all last night & all day very much like St. Patrick’s day. Business was very good today. Between times I worked on Reel for Hominy Mill got it up & if I have time will put the Wire on tomorrow. Have been grinding Rye all day. I have done very well on the Rye I got. All well. Saturday, March 10 Weather cold it was very cold last night it is owing to a very cold spell at St. Louis for the last few days & the wind got around from that quarter. Business was quite dull today have [been] grinding all day on country work. I worked most of the day on the Hominy Mill fixing it. It appears to me I never will get done fixing up. Sallie is not very well has a very sore finger. Sunday, March 11 Weather cool with some wind from the North West. Charlie, Willie & I took a walk up the River as far as the Dam then back home. That was as much walking I done.The remainder of the time I spent at the House Reading most of the time. I do not think there was any services at the Church as Conference is in session in Frederick. Monday, March 12 Weather not so cool today looks something like rain. Thomas did not get back untill about 8. After that I worked on my Hominy fixing. I am getting along very well with it. Business was not very brisk today. Mr. Riggs got the Clamps out & down for the Waist gate. Charlie & I want to go Mr. & Mrs Riggs [--] Weding this eve. Tuesday, March 13 Weather pleasant but not so warm as it has been. We have been running on wheat all day. I worked most of the time on the fixing about the Hominy Mill. I am getting along very well with it. Business very good today 5 Bbls family to J.S. Gary & Son. I would like very much to keep his trade. Family well. Wednesday, March 14 Weather cloudy and wet part of the [day] but [rained] very little. I worked off and on all day on my Bolt to hominy Mill. I am nearly through with it. I want to get her running by tomorrow. Grinding wheat all day. The Retail trade was quite good today but no shiping. Family all pretty well except slight colds. Thursday, March 15 Weather pleasant. I finished my Bolt to the Hominy Mill got her ready to start. Did all the work about the Hominy Mill my self. We have been grinding all day part of the time on wheat & the balance on corn. Business was very good today Reatail took in about 10$. We thought we had a Horse today but when we tride her she kicked the front of [the] buggy in. All well. Friday, March 16 Weather has been very changeable all day it snowed an inch or so late this evening. We have been grinding all day. Finished grinding white Mid & while we were grinding them we tried our New arraingement about the Hominy Mill. It worked very well and will save a good deal of work. Business tolerable good. Family all well. Thanks Saturday, March 17 Weather quite wintery the ground has been white with snow all day but did not snow but very little. We have been grinding corn all day & running up & cleaning wheat. J. Beam came up last night on the trane to see us. He went away again this afternoon I do not think we will want him. I want to try and get along with Charlie. I think we can do the work. All well. Sunday, March 18 Weather cold and raw all day it has been snowing. We can tell by the snow on the cars that come pass. I did not go out but very little only to feed the Hogs. I spent the day in the house reading. Charlie went to prayer meeting tonight. This was the only meeting held today I believe. Family tolerable well. Monday, March 19 Weather has been quite wintery all day has been snowing most all day stoped this eve about 3 or 4 in deep. We are not very busy but have been grinding corn for our selves all day. Trade was rather dull. I bought a Mare today of Mr. S Utz 4 year old for 110$ has not delivered her yet. Family well. Tuesday, March 20 Weather pleasant over head after the Sun got out but it was quite cold in the morning the ground was covered with snow but it has disappeared very much today. Business has been very dull all day have been grinding corn all day. I engaged some 60 or 80 Bus corn at 43 the cheapest I ever bought corn at Mr. S. Utz. Brought the Mare Dollie down to day. All well. Wednesday, March 21 Weather wet all day not much rain but damp foggy weather with some snow on the ground. We ran the Mill all day. Did a little job crushing & grinding in the morning then started on wheat. Business was very dull today. The pay car had not come up yet. I am in hopes the times will get better. Family all well. Thursday, March 22 Weather more pleasant today but has not settled yet. We have been running on country work part of the day and part on our own not very busy. Trade was a little better today & some energy in regard to the price of flour & meal also Hominy. Family all well. Friday, March 23 Weather very pleasant today like a Spring day. Business was not very brisk today but we have been grinding Rye all day for ourselves. Mr. J. T. Williams halled two loads wheat the last he has. I paid 1.45 the same as the last. One load corn came @ 43 cts. All well. Saturday, March 24 Weather very fine like a Spring day. Have been grinding corn all day. I made some corn flour today to try it. We have been quirt busy today. All the R.R. hands were up this evening to pay there Bills & flour, feed, corn meal &c. & they took away quite a hand car load with them. I was alone today. Thos was away with his Buggie to get varnished. My Hogs is quite sick. Family well. Sunday, March 25 Weather thretning all day but no rain untill evening and after dark. Charlie took a short ride in the Bugy with our new Mare Doll. She does very well she is only 3 years old this Spring. Afternoon went to preaching at our little Church Br. Jas. Tomie came home but went away again to see about his Buggy he is trying to sell it. Mr. J.S. Gary & Son sent checks for amount of Bills. Business not very brisk today. Filled an order of 30 Bus feed to go to Mt. Airy R. Sellman. Charlie has been in the mill with me have been grinding corn all day. Family all well no Measles yet. Tuesday, March 27 Weather wet most of the day but did not rain very hard. I went to Frederick today on Business got through and returned on the Mail. I find business very dull took in only 93cts today but filled some orders. I do not think I have very much need to complain. I am satisfied if I can only keep out of debt and get out of debt. Family all well. Wednesday, March 28 Weather very windy it blew very hard all last night & all day today & quite cold. Wheat and flour is on the rise rather to my disadvantage at present as I have wheat in the mill to be priced last of this Month. Business rather dull today but I think will be better soon. Little grinding & exchangeing today. All well. Thursday, March 29 Weather continues very windy blew very hard all last night & all day today. We did not grind any today as we were not very busy. We got an order today of Mr. J.S. Gary & Son for 35 Bbls family to be shipped tomorrow. Will get to grinding again soon. I went over to Randles sale this afternoon did not bye anything went more for the walk. Family all well. Friday, March 30 Weather more pleasant the wind has stoped blowing so hard. Today has been quite a busy day with us. Sent J.S. Gary & Son 35 Bbls and some 2 or 3 to other partes have been busy grinding also. I am haveing a good deal of trouble with 3 of my Hogs they are lame about the hind parts. We put them up in the Orchard to see if that will help them. All well. Saturday, March 31 Weather cloudy and thretning with some little hale and rain. Business was not so brisk today have been however grinding country work. Geo Rinehart commenced to tare away the old shop to make room for the New Store. We have Leased him & Mr. [--] a lot to Build a Shop on just below on the same side. All well. Sunday, April 1 Weather pleasant but a little hazie. Charlie & I rode over to New Market in the morning to Church. Went to the Episcopalian. They have a very nice little Church and Congregation. I felt as I would like to go there again as often as I can. We took a little ride North of the Pike a few miles and back home. I also went up to Mrs. Riggs in the evening. Monday, April 2 Weather cloudy and wet most of today. I fixed up a little in the lower part of the mill today. We ran the country mill all day. Sent W.T. Owings 50 Bus feed. I took some apc of Mr. Jas. Esterday to colleck for Him. Himself & Family start for Little Rock Arcansaw this evening. Business was not very brisk today. Tuesday, April 3 Weather More pleasant today but it was cool this morning & last night. We are still having some ice of nights. I kept doing something in the Mill but we are not very busy now. Thos. was away this afternoon. He sewed my Otes this morning. I want to get the feal in grass. We filled a few orders this morning. All well. Wednesday, April 4 Weather cloudy & warm but no rain. We have been grinding wheat all day and packing. I worked all day at the Hominy Mill I took it down to fix it. I found it quite a job as it was the first time I took it to peases. Business just tolerable. Wheat and flour is up again. Howard St. family 8.20 Wheat 1.80. This year has been a good year for Millers. Thursday, April 5 Weather quite pleasant today getting to look quite Spring like grass is getting quite green. We have kept busy grinding commenced to grind over this afternoon but some 2 Bbls Hominy also. Trade was not very brisk today but no reason to complain. The Rail Road Carpenters at work on the Platform are stoping with us for 2 or 3 days. Family are all well. Friday, April 6 Weather warm and pleasant today. We have been grinding over all day. After we got through with the white Mid commenced on Bran. Business tolerable good today. Some little more enquire for feed as it has gone up. I think I will get it all off before harvest. We have put flour up to 8$ per Bbl now since the rise in wheat. Family all well. Saturday, April 7 Weather quite pleasant. We turned in country work and worked all day. Business tolerable good. Charlie & I rode up in the Buggie to Frederick to get some things. The Mare goes very well in deed for so young a horse she is only 3 years this Spring. Charlie paid the last on her today. Family all very well thanks. Sunday, April 8 Weather cloudy and cool all day. Charlie & I rode over to the little Baptist Church this morning we found it quite a hilly ride and rough in places. We hered a good sermon and got back time enough to attend the M.E. Church at home. Mr. E. Wolf’s little Boy died early this morning. Sallie was present & with it most all night. Family well. Monday, April 9 Weather continues cloudy and cool but no rain or snow. We are grinding over the Bran today & will continue on it without other work will stop us. Business was dull today. Tomie & Charlie tore down the back fence of the Garden. I want to make it larger then have the balance of the feel in grass. Family all well. Tuesday, April 10 Weather cool but more pleasnt then it has been for some time past not so much wind. Charlie & I moved the privy and the garden fence this morning I want to make the garden larger. In the afternoon we measured up 303 Bus feed for Mr. W.H. Forsyth 50 Bags we get 30cts feed that weighs 28” delivered at Sykesville. That is about as much I can get here by the Bus. Family all well. Wednesday, April 11 Weather very pleasant today. We are still grinding over feed. Business was not very brisk today. We did not [send] W.H. Forsyth feed off today but got in on a Call ready to start. Flour & Wheat has gone up again today. It is worth now Wholesale 8 to 9 dollars per Bbl Howard St Family. Family all well. Thursday, April 12 Weather quite pleasant. I was alone in the mill most all day Tomie went to Frederick and Charlie was at school. Tomorrow is the last day for the season. Business rather dull today. Have been grinding over all day. I find it pays to grind the Bran over both in feed & flour. Family all well. Friday, April 13 Weather pleasant but cool enough to have fire all day. We still have frost & some ice of nights. We finished grinding the feed & went on corn. We got about 10 Bbls very good super out of the feed. I find it pays big to grind it over it pais in feed as well as flour. Business not very brisk today. All well. Saturday, April 14 Weather pleasant but cool of nights with frost. Business has been tolerable good today flour 8.50 today. Wheat has gone up in Balto to $2.00 per Bus. corn 60. It is owing to war news in Europe. I bought 4 very pretty Pigs today weight about 80 lbs. Paid 5$ a piece. I gave the Roof of my Mill Porch another coat paint. Family well. Sunday, April 15 Weather quite pleasant. Charlie & I rode over to New Market to Church in the morning and the balance of the day I spent about home. I am very much pleased with the little Church at New Market that we have been attending such good order and everything nice and clean. Family all well thanks. Monday, April 16 Weather quite pleasant looks something like rain this eve. We want rain now. We have been quite busy all day. Tomie was not at work today he is not very well. Charlie was with me. Flour 9$ today still going up. I answered Mr. J.S.G. & Son in regard to the price of 100 Bbls flour to be delivered 50 this month & 50 next. I proposed at 9.25. All well. Tuesday, April 17 Weather quite pleasant today. We had some rain last night & some today. We need some rain at present. Business just tolerable good. The wheat & flour market is very much excited. Flour about such grade as we make brings 9.50 per Bbl wholesale. I went down to Ellysville on the Pick up to ask about filling an order of 100 Bbls flour. Expect to get it at 9 delivered. All well. Wednesday, April 18 Weather cloudy and wet most of the day just the kind of weather that is needed at present. Thos C’s Sister has been very low for several weeks. I hered this evening she was dieing. I hope it is the good Lord’s will she will get well. But the Lord knows best. We are all in his hands and I feal thankfull it is so. I hope that we may all be ready when He calls us home. Thursday, April 19 Weather has been cloludy and wet most all day. Tomie’s sister Died yesterday afternoon so he will be away untill after the funereal which is to take place tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock AM at Urbana Church. Charlie & I have been grinding country work most of the day stoped on Merchant work about 9. Business not very brisk today. Friday, April 20 Weather more pleasant today we had quite a thunderstorm last night but it did not last long. Charlie & I have been tolerable busy all day. Tomie was away at his sister’s funereal. J.S. Gary & Son ordered 5 Bbls more family flour. We sent them by Way trane. We have been grinding wheat most all day. Did some country work in morning. All well thanks. Saturday, April 21 Weather cool and windy all day it commenced to blow last evening from the N.W. We were not very busy today. Tomie got back. Charlie & I rode up to Frederick. We wanted to get some little things. A Mr. Ramsberg got drowned crossing the Moxie this morning. I ordered a car load Lump Plaster today. I expect we will use it. All well. Sunday, April 22 Weather quite pleasant. There was quite an excitement all day about the body of Mr. Ramsberg. He is not found yet. Men have been hunting for him all day. We had Sabbath School today & Ellected new Officers for the next year also preaching in the afternoon. Prayer meeting at night. All well. Monday, April 23 Weather quite pleasant. Business rather dull today., some grinding to do on the country Bur. Charlie & I worked at the garden fence in the afternoon. I expect a load Plaster up in the morning will have to get some to supply my customers. I have some on hand that was left over from last Spring. They have not found Mr. Ramsberg yet. Tuesday, April 24 Weather has been quite pleasant all dy. The Plaster did not come today expect will be here tomorrow. Today was Pay Day on the R Road so we were busy in the evening. Just as we got through with them the Dr. came to pull my tooth so I had the Dr. to pull it. It did not hurt very much. I am glad it is out. We are grinding wheat this afternoon. All well. Wednesday, April 25 Weather quite pleasant. Our dear little Boy of Geo. Rinehart died this Morning. Sallie was present when he died. Dear little fellow we feal sorry to loose him but we know He is better off because he is with his dear Savior. We hope his [-- ] will try & meet Him in Heaven. Business not very brisk but have no need of complaint. All well. Thursday, April 26 Weather rather cool and thretning. We were quite Busy all the forenoon filling orders. Flour & wheat market is very much excited on account of the War in Europe which is about commenced. I started flour this morning at 10 and raised to 11$ per Bbl in Bags. I went over to the Mountain after wheat but cant get any. It is worth 2.25 in Balto. All well. Friday, April 27 Weather wet all day just what is needed. We were busy all day sent 25 Bbls more flour to J.S.G. & Son & 2 Bbls to Harvey, C.W. But I am very fearfull will run out wheat. Wheat is 2.25 in Baltimore & 2.20 in Frederick. Flour 11$ Bbl today 12$ at Ellicott City so I am informed. We have been grinding over all day. I was up all night. Saturday, April 28 Weather cloudy and wet part of the forenoon. Tomie C has been unwell for a few days he went home this morning. Charlie is with me in the Mill. We ran the last two nights. Will or expect to run till midnight tonight. I want to get a little ahead so we can grind plaster first of next week. Business not brisk today. Family all well. Flour 11.50 today. Sunday, April 29 Weather pleasant. We had Sabbath School this evening very good school for the first this season. After Sunday School had Class. I stayed in. I thought we had one of the best meetings we have had for a long time there was a good turn out also. It rained in the evening so I did not go to prayer meeting. All well. Monday, April 30 Weather pleasant. Charlie & I were very busy all day. Thomas Crawfrod is home sick. Some two or three lots of corn came and two or three for plaster. I started the Mill 2 am this morning. I want to get a little ahead so we can grind plaster just as soon as it comes up. I expect it up tomorrow. It should have been up last week. All well. Tuesday, May 1 Weather cool but pleasant at work. A load plaster came up this morning. We went at work at it with two men some unloading & some brakeing & Charlie & I went to grinding it. We are thinking some of grinding all night on it. I want to get it out of the way. Tomie is still away. He is not well. Business not very brisk today. All well. Wednesday, May 2 Weather cool and clear. Charlie & I were very busy all day. We finished the 10 tons plaster a little after Noon then went to grinding wheat. Tomie C is still sick at home. I have been working night & day for a week or so so I am feeling quite tired. My Back is not so well. I am afraid the old trouble is comeing back. Thursday, May 3 Weather cloudy and cool but pleasant to work. We ran all night or untill the water got too low that was about day light this morning. We cant run long when the water is low after Mr. Shearer stops. Business very good for feed and Plaster. I would rather see it dull with me at present in flour as my supply of wheat is getting low. Fout(?) too 1 ½ Bbls flour. All well. Friday, May 4 Weather cool and pleasant. Charlie & I are still alone in the mill. Thomas got back today but went to work at the garden fence. He is not well enough to work in the Mill. The Mill does not agree with him too much dust. We sent 20 Bbls family to J.S.G. & Son. Had 2 orders for Meal filled them at 1.30 at Mill. All well. Saturday, May 5 Weather cloudy and it commenced to rain in the evening. Thomas & Charlie have been working at the garden fence all day. I have been alone most of the day in the Mill. Had Willie with me. Charlie helped when I was busy sold some ton or two of plaster today selling for 8 dollars per ton this Spring. Business not very brisk this Spring in plaster. Family all well. Sunday, May 6 Weather cool and some rain in the forenoon. We had Sabbath School in the afternoon also preaching at its close by Rev. Feelemyer. I did not go to prayer meeting in the evening. Charlie went had a good attendance. I felt so tired after being up so much of nights I did not feel like going but must go soon. All well. Monday, May 7 Weather cool and hazey had quite a frost last night. I started the Mill on corn a little after 12 last night. Have been grinding wheat all day expect to run again tonight. I want to catch up with my grinding. Thomas C is away in fact I expect he will not come back any more in the Mill as it does not agree with him. Wheat & flour still higher. All well. Tuesday, May 8 Weather cloudy and wet all day it commenced to rain last night. We ran again last night on Wheat & packing and ran on wheat all day today on corn this eve but will not run all night tonight don’t think it necessary. Exchangeing in corn was pretty good but aside from that there was but very little done today. Another sow had pigs today. Family well. Wednesday, May 9 Weather rainy all day it looks like clearing off at present this eve the rain is needed. Charlie & I have been very busy all day. We sent off 20 Bbls more flour to J.S.G. and Son. We had to run up and clean wheat & grind midlings that with ecchangeing kept us very busy all day also plaster to weigh out. Thursday, May 10 Weather cool but mostly clear and pleasant it was quite frosty last night. Charlie ran the Mill all night ran two Burs one on wheat & one on corn. Had a good head water & done very well. I rec a letter of Decker and Jewett Bankers Marysville in regard to a note of John Curtis I left with them for collection. They think it worthless. I wrote to them to have it renewed. All well. Friday, May 11 Weather quite pleasant today but cool and a little cloudy. We sent the last of the order of flour to J.S.G. & Son today. Wont have any more untill harvest without some wheat comes in if not will have to get along as well as we can untill after harvest. We are still running of nights. We want to get up with the grinding. Business tolerable. All well. Saturday, May 12 Weather cool but pleasant cloudy all day yet the Sun would come out at times. We are still running night & day Charlie & I doing our own work. Have been grinding on our own work most of the day. We will be quite busy for a whlie at least. I would like to be busy all the time. Flour & wheat is rather on the decline at present. All well. Sunday, May 13 Weather pleasant. Mr. L. Poole & I rode over to Urbana to Church. Had a very good meeting. Bro. Downs preached. I did not go out any more after I went home. I feal very tired after loosing so much rest. I read a while and slep some. Charlie went to prayer meeting in the evening. Monday, May 14 Weather pleasant but it is still cloudy at times but no rain today. Charlie & I are still alone in the Mill. I do not expect Tomie back in the Mill any more. It does not agree with him. We have been busy all day grinding Wheat and Rye. Business not very brisk. Tuesday, May 15 Weather quite pleasant about as warm a day as we have had. I attended Mr. Ramsberg’s sale today the one that got drowned a Month or so ago. I bought a cow gave 54$ for her also 1 cuting box large Pot and several other things. I had quite a time to get her home. Business is quite dull. Have been grinding Rye all day have a very good lot Rye flour on hand. All well. Wednesday, May 16 Weather warm with a shower in the afternoon but did not rain very much. Tomie C & Charlie are fixing up the garden fence also fixing up the fence below the Mill [--] the old garden for the Pigs. I have been alone in the Mill grinding corn most of the time. Got an order to fill for 500 Meal tomorrow. All well. Thursday, May 17 Weather quite warm today the warmest day we have had this Spring. I have been alone all day in the Mill Tomie & Charlie are at work on the garden fence. They will soon get through. Business not very brisk and yet I had something to do. I sent away 500” Meal & done some exchangeing & some cash sales. Family all well. Friday, May 18 Weather quite warm today it is getting to feal like Summer. I was alone in the Mill all day Charlie & Tomie went fishing down to Greenfield’s. Did not catch anything. I was thinking of going with Dr. Norris tomorrow but have [--] now. I have been grinding wheat all day. Wheat & flour declineing very much. Flour now 10$ was 12$. All well. Saturday, May 19 Weather very warm feals like Summer. Charlie went afishing with Dr. Norris so I was alone in the Mill, excepting little Maud she was with me most all day. I was not very busy altho I had enough to keep me busy mostly with the country Bur. I got through for the present with wheat have a good lot of flour on hand. Family all well. Thanks Sunday, May 20 Weather very warm all day except in the evening. A gust came up but the most of it pased to the South of us we had a little sprinkle only. Monday, May 21 Weather not quite so warm today a little hazy in the evening. We had quite a blow with some rain but the most of it appears to be going South of us. I was alone most all day being a holaday. Charlie wanted to go visiting but helped me in the evening. I have been grinding midlings all day. All day. Tuesday, May 22 Weather not quite so warm as it has been. Rain off but not here except a little sprinkle. We need rain now and I pray the good Lord to send it soon. Business just tolerable today but no reason to complain. Mr. Tabler sent us 40.20 this eve ap. Charlie rode to Frederick this morning got back about noon been with me in the Mill since. All well. Wednesday, May 23 Weather cool but pleasant must have Hailed off some where yesterday evening. Thomas L. Crawford started his Store building today by commenceing the foundation. He Leased the lot and is to build the building. The Pay Car came up today.We are grinding over feed all day. I find it pays when we are not too busy and can spare the time. Business is not very brisk. All well. Thursday, May 24 Weather cool all day. There must have been hail off somewhere to make it so cool. We finished grinding over the feed then went to corn & running up wheat to clean. The lot we got of Dr. Hall & Norwood is very full of garlic but it is dry now and the most of it blows out. Business tolerable. Family all well. Friday, May 25 Weather quite pleasant today but is too cool probably for corn but it will soon get all right. Charlie & I have been very busy all day. I engaged about 400 Bus yellow corn of Mr. Warfield and he commenced to deliver today so we was kept busy. Expect to finish halling tomorrow. I want to go to Balto tomorrow. All well. Saturday, May 26 Weather cool and pleasant. I went to Balto today to attend to some Business with Dr. J.S.Bowen. I saw him and attended to what I had to do then went over to Lizzie’s MacDonald’s and spent the evening & night. I found them all well. Mother has been unwell but is better. Charles S. is quite unwell. Sunday, May 27 Weather pleasant in Balto. I came in alone to get some things and stay untill Monday. I went to Dr. Fuller’s Church had a stranger preach & was pleased with his sermon but I miss the Dr. I was also at the Sabbath School. Took dinner with Mollie, tea with Bro. Jas. Eve went with James to the 7th [--] [--] [--] Monday, May 28 Weather pleasant. I got through with what I had to do in Balto and returned home in the evening. I found every thing all right and very glad to be once more with my dear family. Business has been tolerable good while I was away. Tomie stayed in the Mill with Charlie while I was away. All well. Tuesday, May 29 Weather pleasant. Sallie & I went up to Frederick in the Buggy and was gone nearly all day. Sallie wanted to go shoping. Frederick has a number of very good stores but we do not think we can do as well there as one can do in Balto. Business was rather dull at the Mill today but this is the dull season. Family well. Wednesday, May 30 Weather quite pleasant. Business was very dull today. The Mill has been standing idle all day. I have been fixing up some but I would feal better if I was doing something that would pay. Tomie has been getting out stone for his foundation. Had a little trade of a little flour. I hope times will get better soon. All well. Thursday, May 31 Weather warm but pleasant. It is getting quite dry we want rain very much now. May the good Lord send us gentle showers in his very good time and may we all be thankfull for it realizeing that it is through His goodness that he has helped us. Charlie & I commenced to clean [the] Mill we also commenced to grind. All well. Friday, June 1 Weather warm in the Sun but in the Mill it was pleasant. We could not do much today the water was so low. Our plank for the Waist gate came today. I want to commence it tomorrow to get ready. Business was rather dull. Sallie & Maud went to Frederick. I rec a letter of D&J [--]. Saturday, June 2 Weather warm but pleasant. I commenced the wast gate this morning & to clean out the race. I expect a big crowd Monday to clean out the Race. I had a Dam built across the Race at the dam to keep the water out of the Race while the men are at work. Business was very good today but the most of it on time. Family all well. Sunday, June 3 Weather pleasant in the house but I found it quite warm in the Sun. We had all day meeting today at our little Church. Bro. Justice preached morning & afternoon preached very well. Had Sabbath School as usual no prayer meeting in the evening. Family all well. Monday, June 4 Weather cloudy part of the day but no rain. I was very busy today. We had some 15 or 20 hands at work cleaning out the Race was putting in a wast gate. We got along very well. I think we will get through by tomorrow noon. It is a job that was very much needed esspecialy the wast gate. All well. Tuesday, June 5 Weather quite wet this morning but it cleared off and we went to work and finished cleaning the head & tale Races & also finished the waist gate. I made a good job of it. It will cost us about 50$ the whole thing. Business tolerable good today. It looks like we were going to have a gust it is comeing up now. All well. Wednesday, June 6 Weather rather unsettled we had quite a good rain part of yesterday & last night. It has rained some about here today but have been raining around us all day. I am very glad I got through with the Race & waist gate just got through in time. We ran the mill all last night & today on corn. Thomas L. Crawford started his foundation today. All well. Thursday, June 7 Weather pleasant but cloudy. We ran on corn all night. After Breakfast we started on wheat but had to stop the middle of the afternoon on account of the water being too low owing to the Mill above shuting down. Will have to run all night tonight I expect if the water comes but we are not very busy now. Thos. C. [--] load Lumber came today for his store. All well. Friday, June 8 Weather quite pleasant. We did not run all last night but I started early this morning but the water got so low in the afternoon we had to stop for a while. It is partly owing to it being held back at Monrovia. Will all be right when it does come. We are not very busy at present. Tomie is working on his store. Business tolerable good. All well. Saturday, June 9 Weather warm but good breeze and cloudy also. We have been working on corn & chop since ½ past 3 this morning but the water got so low the middle of the afternoon we had to stop for a while. Business tolerable good. I have no reason to complain at any time. The Good Lord abundently helps us. Family all well. Sunday, June 10 Weather cloudy & thretening and some rain. We had no Sunday School today on account of the weather. I spent most of the day in the house except in the evening. Sallie, the children & I called to see Mrs Sellman & Mrs Riggs spent a very pleasant evening. Owing to low water I started the Mill at about one o’clock at night Family all well. Monday, June 11 Weather very pleasant today. Thomas L. Crawford is working two carpenters on his store House. Will soon get it finished if nothing happens. I had to stop about 10 this morning on account of low water. I am not very busy in the Mill at present. Business is dull but I have a good deal of fixing up to do yet before Harvest. Family all well. Tuesday, June 12 Weather cloudy and cool all day. We started on wheat at 0ne this morning but had to stop on account of low water about noon. Business very quite. W.H. Forsyth came up to see us today about the Note He endorsed. I released him. There was a collision this side Washington Junction & a great many wonded & some 4 or 5 kiled. All the tranes have been delayed. All well. Wednesday, June 13 Weather quite pleasant. We started early on corn. We had an order to fill 1800 Meal & chop. We finished grinding and sent it off. Water is very low have been standing idle all day. The only time we can grind is at night owing to the Mill above Keeping it back all day while they are cleaning there Race. Business tolerable good. Family all well. Thursday, June 14 Weather quite warm but there was a good breeze most of the time,. Business very good today. We ran the Mill on corn all last night but had to stop about Noon on account of the water. Charlie & I made a way down in the tale Race for the Hogs in a pen below the Mill it will be a very nice place in hot weather. Family all pretty well. Friday, June 15 Weather warm but hazey & not quite so warm in the Sun. I did not run last night but commenced early this morning. Had to stop about noon water got too low. Mr. J.T. Williams brought in 109 Bus white corn paid 50cts per Bus for it. Our corn bur is very good at present. I am still asking for Hominy. I must keep more over next Spring. All well. Saturday, June 16 Weather cloudy and wet part of the day. I started on corn last night & have been grinding ever since. Water has kept up very well today, should have got through with his Race and gone to grinding. I will have the water more regular now. Business tolerqble good today. We sent 500 Meal to E. [-] Owings @ 1.25 the pay freight. All well thanks. Sunday, June 17 Weather warm. I stayed about home all the forenoon reading most of the time. After dinner I went to Sunday School after Sabbath School. Jas. Crawford preached for us. I spent the evening at home. Sallie & the children went to prayer meeting. All well. Monday, June 18 Weather very warm & close today. I worked out all day moveing the Hog pen back of the Mill. We stoped the Mill & all worked at it. Mr. J. Anderson helped us. I think it will be much better to have it away from the Mill. We are grinding wheat this eve. Family all well. Tuesday, June 19 Weather warm and dry. I ran on wheat all last night and on corn untill the water got too low. I did not work very hard today I feal very sore from yesterdays work. Business not very brisk today but have no reason to complain. John Andreson is still at work. All well. Wednesday, June 20 Weather pleasant. I went to Frederick today to get some Anchors or Iron to make some for the mill and to get some other things. We still have John Anderson at work for us fixing up about 0ne dollar a day & he bord himself. Charlie & I about finished the Hog pen this evening. Business tolerable good. I also engaged car load corn at 5.65 delivered. All well. Thursday, June 21 Weather warm with a heavy gust in the evening and is still raining very hard. I am afraid it has throne the wheat down. We have been grinding corn most all day will have to run on wheat pretty soon. Business pretty good but mostly credit untill after harvest which has already commenced. All well. Friday, June 22 Weather very pleasant after the rain last evening & night must have been hail somewhere owing to the coolness. I started on wheat this morning and have been grinding all day. I also put in 4 anchors in the Mill on the sides. I have 4 more to put in as soon as I can get them made. Thos L. Crawford started his little store in one of Mills. All well. Saturday, June 23 Weather quite pleasant rather too cool in the evening. Sallie & I went up to Frederick in the afternoon. She wanted to get a few things and I wanted to put a check in Bank for collection. Doll goes very well now in the Buggy. Business very good today. We have been grinding corn all day. T.L.C. started business in his new store this afternoon. Family all well. Sunday, June 24 Weather pleasant. At Sabbath School and Conference meeting in the morning. Afternoon home most of the time excepting I walked out a little and got some charys to eat. Evening we all walked over to Mr. Wiliams. Anne is still with us on a visit will go home this week. Lu Mercer is also with us on a visit. Family all well. Monday, June 25 Weather not quite so cool today. We started grinding over Mid this morning. Will grind over all the Midlings also the heavy mid. Business tolerable good today. Have put down flour to 9.00 per Bbl in Bags. I think we will have enough to last up till new wheat comes in that is for the retail trade only. Family all well. Tuesday, June 26 Weather warm all day with a gust in the evening but it did not rain very hard about here. We got through grinding over & cleaned up. Ready to go to grinding wheat but will not start till morning. Business just tolerable good today. Got an order from C.W. Harvey Agt. Ellicott City for Bbl family and 100” Meal. He is a good customer of mine. Family all well. Wednesday, June 27 Weather warm with a shower in the evening. We are having very good weather to Harvest. Some of our farmers are through cuting wheat this week will nearly finish the cuting of grain about here and the crop is very good. We have been grinding wheat all day. We have but very little more in the Mill. Business just tolerable. All well. Thursday, June 28 Weather cloudy and wet all day rather bad for wheat that is not cut & shocked well. We have been grinding corn all day. We ran up some yellow corn we got from the lot of Warfield. I commenced to dress the wheat Burr. I expect I will have to do it myself. I do not care so I can spend the time. Family all well. Friday, June 29 Weather pleasant a little cloudy but a good day to cut wheat. Most of the farmers about here will finish there work if the weather will permitt. I worked all day on the wheat Bur putting in the dress. I want to get through tomorrow. Business tolerable good. All well. Saturday, June 30 Weather warm but just the weather we need at this time to dry the wheat. I got through with the wheat Bur dressing. We broke down this morning and can not run any more untill fixed. I may have to go to Frederick before we get her fixed. It is not a very serious but hard to get at. Business tolerable good today.
