The good Lord has been very good to us. The farmers could not have better weather for there corn and to get in there wheat. Business tolerable with us. We had another 1000” corn chop but we are out or about of yellow corn. I am in hopes we will have some in in a few days. Corn is cheap in Balto. but we do not want to sell for the price 47cts per Bus. All well. Tuesday, July 2 Weather warm but pleasant where you are not too much exposed to the Sun. We have been grinding Rye all day as we was about out of Rye chop & there is some inquire for it now. We will have probably a ton of it besides 1000” Rye flour but the later is very slow sale this year. We had a number of orders today for meal & flour. The home trade was not so good today. Family all well. Wednesday, July 3 Weather warm but good weather for the season. Charlie & I have been tolerable busy all day. We ran all last night of chop corn. We wanted 1000” to go to J.S. Gary & Son today. We got it ready & sent it and 6000” Meal to Weller. I wrote to Mr. M.L. Doherty G.J.A. B&O Rail Road to try and have our freight lessoned to Elysville. He may do it. We have been grinding corn all day. Business tolerable good. All well. Thursday, July 4 Weather warm and dry just the weather we need thanks be to the good Lord. If wheat & hay is not saved in good condition farmers will be very much to blame. We ran all last night on corn. We have to run at night on account of the water owing to the Mill above. Our head of water dos not get up untill about 9 or 10 O’clock in the morning then it will last most till night. Grinding wheat today. All well. Friday, July 5 Weather warm but a good haze most of the time. Charlie & I were very busy all day. We finished cleaning up all the wheat we have in the Mill ready for grinding about 150 Bus is all we have now in the Mill. I am in hopes new wheat will come in before we get out. We also ground over all day Midlings & feed. We did not run all night last night. Business not very brisk today. All well. Saturday, July 6 Weather quite warm. I feal the heat more yesterday and today then any time yet. We did not run all night last night. Have been running all day on corn. Have an order of 1000” to go to E. City Monday to a customer. He wants it corse & have to grind it for him. No new wheat comeing in yet. Mother came up today on the Male. She is looking very well. Business very dull today. All well. Sunday, July 7 Weather very warm and dry. We are in want now of Rain if the good Lord will send it but not our will but His be done. We had a very pleasant lesson in Sunday School today also a very good Class meeting. I did not go out any more after I came home. Mother came up last evening not on the morning trane I forgot. She is looking very well. Mr. Willis was with us again this eve. Monday, July 8 Weather very warm and dry from appearances we want rain. I engaged Geo. Crawford’s crop about 300 Bus to be delivered next week Tuesday at 95cts per Bus. The sample is very good. Business is very slack today except we filled Mr. Leishears order of 1000” Meal. We have been grinding over all day on feed. Mr. Willis went away this morning. Family well. Tuesday, July 9 Weather very warm. We had a very good shower last eve and some this afternoon. It will help very much as the corn &c is in want of rain and I am in hopes if the Lord is willing we will have some more soon. Business very good today in a small way 600” Meal to Fahey and at home the trade was very good. We finished grinding over in country work then went [--]. Charlie went collecting in Mt. Airy this eve. Wednessday, July 10 Weather warm but a very good breeze. We had a very good day today. Collected in about 160 or 170 dollars and promise of more soon. Also 3 orders of Meal 1000” to J.S. Gary & Son E.U. Owings 1000 & 200 of L.T. Fout our old customer. We had to stop on wheat and go to grinding corn and some exchangeing and home trade. I had an offer of Gideon Bussard to store about 500 Bus wheat but I refused to do it fraid I wont have room and would rather buy now as wheat is low. All well. Thursday, July 11 Weather continues very warm and dry. A good gentle rain would do now if the good Lord wishes it so. We have been running on corn all day. Not very busy. Water is low. We sent away 1100” meal today. We will have to put up Meal corn has gone up about here. Mr. J.S. Gary & Son sent there check up today. They are very prompt men to do business with. Charlie went to Frederick this afternoon. All well. Friday, July 12 Weather warm all the forepart of the day but the good Lord sent us a lite shower and cooled the atmosphere some. We were not very busy today had some small orders left for tomorrow. We ran on corn til after dinner then stoped. I am afraid to get too much ground while the weather is so warm. We made some Boxes & put them up to feed the stock in the lower parture. All well. Saturday, July 13 Weather more pleasant today after the rain. We have been running on wheat all day as we had a good head water. Business tolerable good today. We are having trouble with our Meat. The skippers is getting so bad we will have to give it all an over halling and some think we had better put it down in Brian again but I am afraid of that plan. So to cover it with Molases and peper. Sunday, July 14 Weather very warm and the flys very bad. We had Sunday School and Preaching this forenoon. Bro. Jas. Crawford preached as Mr. Kolb our Preacher in Charge got thrown from his Buggy and got hurt but not dangerous. We had very good attendance takeing in consideration the very warm weather. I spent the balance of the day at home trying to read. Monday, July 15 (Nelson Jones is back today) Weather not quite so warm today. I have been working at our Meat. We had it halled up from the Mill and we are trying to get the skippers from it then we will put it down in Boxes and cover the fleshy side with Molases & red peper and save it. The last killing we left in the Meat House. The Bone [--] is worse then the Meat of the first killing. Tuesday, July 16 Weather warm but not quite so warm as it was a few days ago. We ran on corn most of the day. Business tolerable good. We sent 2000” Meal to Zimmerman & Shultz Sykesville at 1.12 ½ they pay freight. We must get in some more corn just as soon as we can. Charlie & I went to town this afternoon wanted a few things. We went the Ford Road (newer). Family all well. Wednesday, July 17 Weather warm and dry reports of very bad weather out west. Business has been rather good one or two orders and some money sent up from below. I am a little fraid we will run out of wheat. Geo. Crawford was to have brought in 300 Bus the first of this week but has not got here yet. He is not to be depended upon. Grinding corn today. All well. Thursday, July 18 Weather warm and dry. If it would please the Good Lord to send us a gintle rain. It would do a great deal of good to the growing crops corn &c. We ground over the last of our old wheat today. I am fearfull we will run short before new wheat comes in. I hope it may not be the case. Business tolerable good today. We filled W.T. Weller’s order Meal & flour. We are grinding over now. Charlie & a Mr. Hood went fishing started last night. All well. Friday, July 19 Weather very warm and dry but it looks as tho we will have a shower this eve as a gust is rising in the West. I hope the good Lord will send us a good gentle shower as it is so much needed about here at present. His will be don. We have been grinding feed all day & cleaning up getting ready to take in new wheat. Business tolerable good. Family all well. Saturday, July 20 Weather not quite so warm today more breeze. There was some rain yesterday but we did not get very much the most of it went around us. We have been tolerable busy today and some 60 odd Bus new wheat came in paid 95 cts for it very good wheat. That is the cheapest I ever bought good wheat for. Grinding grist work most all day. Water tolerable good today. Family all well. Sunday, July 21 Weather very warm about 92 in our front Hall but not as warm as it was part of this last week. A great many have died throughout the Country from the effects of the heat. We had Sunday School this morning not very large attendance the weather is so warm keeps some away. I did not go away from home any more all day. Tried to keep cool as I could and read. All well. Monday, July 22 Weather much more pleasant today. It got cool last night and we have had a very pleasant day. But it is still very dry. Need rain very much about here. May the good Lord be pleased to send us a good gentle rain. We were not very busy today. Ran on corn all day. I am a fraid we are getting too much on hand mite spoil. We have been fixing up some. I want to go to Baltimore tomorrow to see about some cloth. Tuesday, July 23 Weather warm but not as warm as it was a few days ago. I went to Balto today to get some Cloth to make some [--] in our Mid Cloth. I got No. 1 for Poor Mid and No. 5 for white Mid. Do not know they are the rite numbers will have to try and find out those No. are [--] on a Mill Mr. Valintine(?) is repairing at the foot of Smith Wharfe. I also bought a Watch for Nelson C. Jones. I returned in the evening. All well. Wednesday, July 24 Weather continues warm and dry. Farmers about here are fearfull of there corn crop it is suffering very much but it is good for most of the farmers as they have not got there wheat in yet. Business very dull today. Water is very low. We are running the Mid Bur on new wheat. It cuts the Bran up very much but the flour looks very well. We are having some trade at the House. All well. Thursday, July 25 Weather very pleasant today but it is still very dry but it is still good weather for most of the farmers as they have the wheat out yet. Business is rather slack with us today some few ordres. We commenced to get ready and put on the new cloth we got for the Mid Real got part on. I am a fraid it is too corse. Sallie is doing the sewing except the sewing after they are on the Real. Running on Rye & corn all day. Family all well. Friday, July 26 Weather more pleasant today but it is still very dry but I am in hopes we will have rain soon as it is very much needed. One load yellow corn came in today paid 50cts. The dry weather has put corn up. Some about here will not sell at any price. 226 bus wheat came in today of Mr. Bussard. Paid 98 cts per Bus very good wheat about one-half white. That is all it is worth according to Balto. prices. We finished fixing our Midlings Cloths. All well. Saturday, July 27 Weather cloudy and wet all the forenoon. I am in hopes we will have more rain before it clears off the good Lord willing. Water has been very low all day. We have been cleaning wheat and grinding corn. Business very good today we filled several orders with Meal. John T. Williams bought a load wheat. Will weigh it Monday at 95cts per Bus very good wheat. All well. Sunday, July 28 Weather very warm all day. We had no Sabbath School as there was a Woods Meeting in the neighborhood and most every body wanted to atend it. I did not go but spent the day at home reading some but the flys are so bad and so warm one cannot read very much. There was preaching in the evening at our Ijamsville Church. I attended there and most of the family. All well. Monday, July 29 Weather cloudy and wet all day but dos not rain very fast. It is just what we want better than a flood. The good Lord is very kind to us. Rain is very much needed about here at present. Business is very slack today no orders and very little doing in the Mill. We have been running all day. We finished up all the country work we had to do then went on wheat. All well. Tuesday, July 30 Weather cloudy part of the day it rained all last night. We had just what we prade for a gentle good rain. The good Lord is very good to us. We have been quite busy today 3 or 4 orders to fill one of J.S. Gary & Son 30 Bbls family 2000” Meal & 500” Chop & 500” Meal to W.T. Owings beside some trade at home. Thos. Crawford commenced to deliver the 100 Bus white corn was engaged some time ago. We have been running on wheat all day. Wednesday, July 31 Weather pleasant. Not as warm as it was before the rane. Thos. Crawford is still halling in Mrs. E. Hendry’s corn from his place. She will have between 1000 & 1100 Bus not to be priced untill middle of Sept. We have a good trade for Meal but it is hard to tell what corn will be worth at that time. I will be satisfied if it will not get any higher. We sent off J.S. G. & Son’s flour & Meal today. Business not so brisk today. All well. Thursday, August 1 Weather pleasant but warm in the Sun with a gust in the aftrenoon but the most of it went to the North of us. Charlie & I rode to town I want to get a little mashinerty to put in small elevator to carry flour from white Midlings to Hopperbay. I ordered what I wanted at Pages. Business was rather dull today. Wheat in town today 90cts per Bus. it is only worth about 1.00 in Baltimore. Family all well. Friday, August 2 Weather pleasant after the rane. We had quite a gust last night after dark did not rain so fast but I do not think I ever saw more Lightening. It struck not far from us and did some damage. I am very thankfull we got off so far from damage. Business tolerable good today three orders for Meal & feed part of it to go tomorrow. Charlie went to Hood’s Mill to stay over Sunday. Saturday, August 3 Weather pleasant but warm in the Sun. Business tolerable good. We shipped Weller some Meal and feed and some little trade at home. We have been choping all the afternoon and fixing about our little elevator. Charlie is still away. We are thinking Nelson & I and some others to go to camp on the Washington R. Road tomorrow. We will see in the morning. All well. Sunday, August 4 Weather warm. Nelson Jones, Lem Poole & I walked to Fred Junction and took the excurtion trane for Washington Grove Camp meeting. We spent a very pleasant day there and returned in the evening. Dr. Lanahan Preached in the morning. The Rev. Mr. Norris preached in the afternoon both excelent sermons. It is a very large camp and a grate many people there. Good order & good meetings. All well. Monday, August 5 Weather very changeable. We had a very heavy rain while it lasted it rose the water so we had to rase the flud gate but did us no damage. Business not very brisk today except in Meal we sent 600” away. I have been working most of the day on my elevator. Cant do much now untill I get the Iron work expect it here tomorrow. Charlie came home today. All well. Tuesday, August 6 Weather warm and gusty in the evening and has the appearance while I am writeing of a very heavy gust comeing up. Business very dull today. Charlie & I went to town to see about the castings. They was looked for on the way trane but did not come. We found after we got there they was sent on the Male by Express. Family well. Wednesday, August 7 Weather pleasant. I was very busy all day trying to finish the little elevator to carry the flour from the Mill to the Hopperbay. I got it finished and think it will work well and save a great deal of work. J. S. Crawford took the Fan but says it wont give satisfaction. I expect it will have to be taken back. I wont be bothered with it any more. Business was very light today. Ran the chopper all day. Thursday, August 8 Weather quite pleasant. Crawford & Cecil are halling there wheat to the Mill. Some of it is a little tough but on the whole it is very good wheat. I do not feal so well today I was up all last night grinding Mid. Our little elevator is quite an addition. It saves a great deal of work. I am very much pleased with it. We made some other alterations today in partitions. Family all well. Friday, August 9 Weather warm and good for the growing crops. Business a little better today. We sent 2000” Meal to Z & Shultz at 1.15 some little trade at home. We have been finishing grinding over and cleaning wheat. I priced part of the wheat that was delivered yesterday at 95cts per Bus. That is about 5cts better then about 4 or 5 days ago. The wheat and flour market is looking up some at present. All well. Saturday, August 10 Weather warm. Last night was a very warm night. We have been grinding corn all day. Business was very slack today no orders of any kind. There was quite a R Road accident at Hood’s Mill this morning. The cole train ran into Charley Hobbs 2 Horse waggon and kiled a tramp and recked the train very much. It commenced to rain since noon and has the appearance of a settled rain. All well. Sunday, August 11 Weather wet in the morning and the excurtion trane from Frederick did not come quite a disappointment about here as a good many had come and bought there tickets but the weather cleared off and the train came at 1.30. Charlie, Willie & I went. We got to the Camp time enough to hear the 3 O’clock sermon. The cars was very well filled and there was quite a crowd in attendance. We returned at 7 O’clock. All well. Monday, August 12 Weather pleasant. I sent Charlie up to Frederick early this morning to try and sell some meal. I hered it was very much wanted but appears not to have been the case. We have been running the chopper all day. We had an order of J.S. Gary & Son for 5 Bbls family and 20 Bus S.S. to go tomorrow. We are tolerable busy in a small way. The wheat market keeps about steady. Wheat is worth about 95cts per Bus today. Tuesday, August 13 Weather pleasant with a good breeze and has the appearance of rain. Business not very brisk today alltho we had some small trade. We sent 300” Meal to Mr. J.S.W. Jaboe Frederick and 20 Bus shipstuff to Weller Woodstock and some little trade at home. We finished what country work we had on hand and then went on wheat and packing. I am in hopes trade will get better soon. We would grind to ship but I do not see any money in it. Family all well. Wednesday, August 14 Weather pleasant with rain most of the forenoon it rained quite hard at times. We are having very seasonable weather here lately good for the late growing crops but not so good for the Camp Meetings which is in its hight in most of the camps. They are just getting ready at our Ijamsville Camp. We filled Tabler’s order today. That was all the orders we had to fill. All well. Thursday, August 15 Weather thretening with a shower in the afternoon. Several loads wheat came in today. We are paying 1.00 for the best wheat today. It is rather too much but the other Millers is giving it about here so we will have to give the same. We stoped grinding wheat to grind some [--] wheat for Crawford & Cecil. I was called away in the afternoon to go to Mr. Kenney’s Mill. He wants to [--] about his Burs. I did the best I could to help him. All well. Friday, August 16 Weather cloudy and wet all day bad day on the Camp people. They commenced our Camp today but it has been so wet a good many have not put up there tents yet. Some 2 or 3 loads wheat came in today paying 1.00 per Bus for the best wheat. Business has been very good today as it was pay day on the Rail Road. We have been running night & day on wheat for the last few days. All well. Saturday, August 17 Weather warm and cloudy but no rain today it has been a good day for the Camp Meeting folk to finish putting up there tents. I have not been there yet but I expect to go over in the morning if the weather is good. Some little more wheat came in today paid 1.00 for it. It is a few cents higher today in Balto. The market is some what excited and unsettled. It may go higher. We are choping today since middle of the forenoon. All well. Sunday, August 18 Weather warm but a very pleasant day for Camp Meeting folk. This Camp here was very well attended from up the Railroad and from Frederick. I went over in the morning and remained till noon spent the remainder of the day at home. It was very lively about the Depot. I am not fealing so well for the last few days. They had a very good prayer and experience meeting in the morning and largely attended. The good Lord was with his people. All well. Monday, August 19 Weather pleasant with a light shower in the evening. We were not very busy today. Have been grinding over all day commenced about midnight last night want to get some feed. We are out of Shipstuff feed is in better demand then any thing else at present. I mowed the weads down in the garden have very little else there but weads. Business was very light today. I am in hopes it will get better soon. Sallie was quite unwell last night. Tuesday, August 20 Weather quite pleasant good day for Camp. They say there was a very good attendance at services this morning. The presideing Elder officiated & preached a very good sermon on perfection. I would have liked it but I am very busy now in the Mill takeing in wheat. I ran all last night. Nelson was unwell. Charlie helped me part of the night. Business tolerable good today. All well. Wednesday, August 21 Weather quite pleasant good weather on the Camp meeting folk. Business very dull today and we are not very busy. We are on corn meal ran all last night on it. We have some to ship away tomorrow and Saturday. Charlie & I rode to Frederick this afternoon. I want to see about haveing the stock on hand Insured if it dos not cost too much an agent will be around to see. All well. Thursday, August 22 Weather quite pleasant a little or the appearance of gust of wind or rain in the afternoon. Good day for the camp at this place and I hear it is well attended today. I was over there last night. They give good meetings. The Boys want to go this evening. Water was very low today so we turned it out and cleaned the Race some and I put in a new Rack in the forebay. I had a pollicy of $2500 put on the stock in the Mill today for 5 years it runs costs $36.25 for that long. All well. Friday, August 23 Weather cool and pleasant the best of weather for the Camp which is still in progress and will be untill some time next week. We have been takeing in more wheat today getting pretty well filled up. The Mill is not arrainged to hold very much wheat. Business not very brisk. We sent 500” meal to Ilchester was all the shipments today. Wheat is a little off paying today 90 to 98 per Bus. Family well. Saturday, August 24 Weather very pleasant. The nights are getting cool and pleasant like fall weather very pleasant. The camp is still going on. They expect a great many there tomorrow as there is expected some 3 or 4 tranes. Business very good today. We sent the 1000” Meal to Mr. Leach & 10 Bbls to Elysville and the trade was tolerable good at home. We have been working on wheat most all day on corn now. All well. Sunday, August 25 Weather thretening and rained just as they were about to take up the collection at the camp and everybody had to run for shelter. Most of the people found shelter in the tents I among the rest. It lasted over an Hour. I then came home. A great many people came in the cars some from Baltimore and along the line of the Road both ways but the rains scattered them and a great many went back and stayed in the cars. I went again in the evening. Monday, August 26 Weather pleasant today and clear. John W. Montgomery halled the wheat in today. It was very good that which was dry a good deal of it was wet. Business not very brisk today but we have been busy takeing in wheat & fixing a place for it. We are filling up over the Office partitioned off for it. The camp will not brake up till Wednesday. They had a very good meeting last night. Tuesday, August 27 Weather quite pleasant all day. We have been takeing in more wheat today but some of it is so tough we will have to send it back. I am a fraid to take it in the Mill we have not floor to spread it on. Business tolerable good today. We sent Messres Z&S 2000” Meal some little trade at home. We are running night & day now to keep up and try to grind over and clean up as we go. That corse is better on account of the feed which is needed at present. Wednesday, August 28 Weather rather thretening but no rain yet today. The Camp broke this morning. They met with good success quite a number of conversions and financially very well. We finished the grinding sink of wheat and turned on corn. Will now grind over and get ready to run on wheat again. We got an order for 1000” chop will have to fill it with white corn if at all as we have no yellow. Family all well. Thursday, August 29 Weather thretening with some rain in the afternoon. Some rain the farmers say now would do some good. We have been running on the country Bur all day. We are out of heavy feed the demand is very good now for heavy feed. We filled the order of J.S. G. & Son for 1000” corn chop. Had to give them white corn as we are out of yellow corn. Some wheat came in today paid 1.00 per Bus for it but that is within 5cts Baltimore price. Family well. Friday, August 30 Weather quite warm but not so thretening as last evening. Some wheat came today we are paying 1.00 for good. Sallie went up on the Mail this morning to get some things for Ella. Wants to get her ready to go to School. I went up in the Buggy after the Mail and brought her home. I had some business at the Bank. We had a good order from J.S. G. & Son flour & meal we filled it and went off today. All well. Saturday, August 31 Weather rather thretening all day with some rain in the afternoon. The excurtion from Monrovia came off today and a great many from Ijamsville went. Charlie & Nelson went. The train was very large and very full. I was alone in the Mill except Uncle Dick and Willie thay helped me all they could. I was very busy as I had to grind over all day. That is attended with a good deal of work. All well. Sunday, September 1 Weather quite warm with a gust of rain in the evening. We had Sunday School this morning for the first time since the Camp Meetings commenced. We had a very good school. In the evening was given out for Preaching but the Preacher did not come alltho there was quite a good turn out. We all went up includeing Mother. As there was no preaching we turned it into a prayer meeting & had a good meeting. All well. Monday, September 2 Weather warm but pleasant somewhat overcast all day but no rain. It rained quite hard last night as the water was very good all day. We commenced last night at 12 finished the feed then went on country work to get it up so we can run on wheat, will run on that tonight. We were quite busy all day. Some wheat came in very good hay 1.01. Trade tolerble good. All well. Tuesday, September 3 Weather warm just the weather that is needed for corn, late potatoes &c. We started on wheat last night and have been running on it every since. Expect to run on it all night tonight if the water keeps up. Some more wheat came today part of it was white paid 1.01 per Bus. Wheat & flour is more strong in the market then it has been. I do not think it will get any lower this season. We made some sider today. All well. Wednesday, September 4 Weather warm but pleasant just the kind needed at present for corn &c. More wheat comeing today. We have now on hand and engaged to fill the Mill pretty well up. Will have to stop takeing in if it keeps on this way much longer. I am anxious to get holt of all I can at the present prices offering and getting wheat today at 95 to 1.02 per Bus. 95ct wheat good but has garlick in it. Need money now very much hope will be able to weather through. All well. Thursday, September 5 Weather quite pleasant. I ran the Mill all last night on corn. Today I went to Town and met Messres G. Bussard & N.J. Worthington. They assisted me in getting accomations in Bank. We are takeing in a good deal of wheat and I was short. Sallie went up on the Mail and came home with me in the Buggy. I feal very tired this evening don’t think I will stay up. All well. Friday, September 6 Weather quite pleasant. Water is low. About all we can do is run the chopper. Have been running all night and today on corn and chopping for customers about home. Mr. John Mussetter is halling wheat today. He has 100 Bus wanted to sell now. Promised to pay 1.01 but it is barely worth it as it is not as clean as I expected but is a Neighbour & a customer & I feal like giving all I can.Trade rather slack. We sent 500” Meal to Ilchester James Kennedy. Family all well. Saturday, September 7 Weather pleasant has the apearance of rain this evening. I wish it would as the water is very low. We have been trying since last evening to grind wheat but have to stop every now and then till the water raises. It is not good to run with a too low head, not so good for the flour. Wheat is off today. It really is not worth more here than 95. I shall not engage any more at present. Business very dull all day today. Family all well. Sunday, September 8 Weather pleasant rather cool. Sabbath School and preaching in the morning by the Preacher in charge Rev. Mr. Kolb and prayer meeting in the evening not a very large attendance. Four Probation [--] were received in Church Fellowship Geo Bear, Mr. Winchester(?) & Wife and there daughter & son-in-law Mr. Zellers. I spent the afternoon at home. We all went to prayer meeting. Ella is getting ready to go off to school start about Tuesday next. Family well. Monday, September 9 Weather cool but pleasant a little cloudy all day. Mr. N.J. Worthington is storeing 4 or 5 hundred Bus wheat to be priced in the future. Time is not set yet. It is very good fultz about as good as we have taken in. We are storeing it in the lower sink and we will use from there as we may want it. Business very slack today except some small orders. We are running on wheat all day. Water good today. All well. Tuesday, September 10 Weather has been thretening all day but only a light mist as yet. Ella went off to the Burkettsville Female Seminary today. I hope she will do well. May the good Lord Bless her. Water continues very low. We are still running on wheat. Some more wheat came in today we are getting pretty well filled up. Wheat is off since it is hard to tell how the market will continue. Business rather dull today. All well. Wednesday, September 11 Weather cloudy and wet part of the day. We are in want of rain so the water is low. Have been grinding Mid & cleaning wheat today. Ran all last night on wheat. We filled a little order for W.T. Weller and some trade but business is very quiet. Wheat and flour is off in price again. Wheat is not worth here more than 95 per Bus for the best.Prof H. Thompson came up today moved in his place. Thursday, Septmeber 12 Weather rather thretening all day but did not rain any but the last rain don us a great deal of good as we have had a very good head of water all day yesterday & last night and all day today & we are making good use of it. We are still running of nights but the stock of flours is accumulateing and business very dull but I am living in hopes that times will get better. The wheat market is a little stronger today. All well. Friday, September 13 Weather on the order of the Equinox wind and rain. Dos not rain very much comes very jintle. It has given us a good head water. We are still running night and day on wheat most of the time. Will have to go to chopping tomorrow as we have quite a lot of it to do. Business very dull today. No orders except a small one to go to No. 4 for B.G. Shipley. Family all well. Saturday, September 14 Weather cool and clear today feels like fall weather some. Business tolerable good today. We had two small orders one for flour & one for meal. On the whole business is rather dull. Wheat market continues quiet best about 98cts per Bus corn 48 per Bus that is Frederick prices today. Charlie & I went up there this afternoon. Busy on country work today. All well. Sunday, September 15 Weather cool and pleasant. Sabbath School and Class in the morning and prayer meeting in the evening. We had very good meetings today. I thought the good Lord appeared to be with us indeed but I know He is always with his people if they would only believe. I spent the afternoon at home reading most of the time. Ella is away to school and we miss her. May the Lord bless her. Monday, September 16 Weather cool but pleasant. Mr. Detrick is halling his wheat. Some of it is very good. I engaged about 200 Bus more today at 97cts. Per Bus. We are getting pretty well filled up. Trade tolerable good today some enquiries & orders flour meal & feed. We are running on wheat while the water keeps up. We are having a good head of water today. Family all well thanks to the good Lord. Tuesday, September 17 Weather pleasant. We stoped grinding wheat as the water got low and went to grinding corn as we are about out of meal. We sent Geo. A. McComas 1000” Meal this morning. Meal has not been in that demand it was some time ago flour was so cheap. Mr. Detrick finished halling his wheat. Wheat is off again 1.02 & 1.05 in Baltimore Market. Business is not very brisk now. Family all well. Wednesday, September 18 Weather very pleasant but the night is almost cold enough for frost. I find it quite cold running the mill at night without fire. We are still running night and day but the water is low most of the time and we cannot make much headway. We are getting some 60 Bbls family ahead now. We are grinding meal now ran all last night on it and still at it today. Trade tolerable good today. Family all well. Thursday, September 19 Weather quite pleasant. We finished takeing in a lot of wheat of Crawford & Cecil & Mrs. C. Hendry today. Priced it at 97cts per Bus. Settled for all except Mrs. H. Water is very low. We had to stop on wheat and turn to white Midlings don’t take quite so much water. Business is very dull today. We sent off what was ordered yesterday made some sales besides but the market is quiet. Mother went home today. Family all well. Friday, Septmeber 20 Weather quite pleasant. Farmers are very busy about here getting the Ferz to put on there wheat. The siding has been filled up several days with cars for them. Water is very low. We ran all last night on Midlings we wanted feed and it dos not take so much water for that kind of work. Running on wheat now but cant do much. Business in the exchange & country was very good today. Family all well. Saturday, September 21 Weather thretening and did rain quite a good shower in the evening. We have been quite busy all day on Grist work but the water is low and we cannot make much headway. Charlie, Will , Maudie in fact all of us except Nelson went in the Orchard and made about ½ Bbl Sider. Business was rather dull today except home work. Mother has gone home. Family all well. Sunday, September 22 Weather quite cool almost cool enough for fire. We are thinking about putting up our Stove. Sunday School this morning and preaching at night by Thos. Crawford very good attendance. I am very well pleased with our little Church and hope in this place we have good meetings. A good many young people appear indifferent but I hope they will do better after a while. Ella & Mother being away our family appears smaller. All well. Monday, September 23 Weather cool and pleasant. We had frost last night for the first of the season. Water is better and we are trying to use it all up by cleaning wheat and chopping. In that way we are using it all. Business tolerable good today. One order of J.S. Gary & Son of 500” Meal also some little orders but business as a general thing is dull. Charlie & Maggie started to school to Prof. H. Thompson’s today. All well. Tuesday, September 24 Weather cloudy and some little rain but not enough to raise the water much. The water is still low but we manage to run but can not turn out very much work. Thos. Crawford commenced to hall wheat today. One load corn also came from Mrs. Smith. I would rather not take any more wheat at present but it is almost forced on me there is so much of it & so cheap. Wheat is only worth about 95cts per Bus. Family well. Wednesday, September 25 Weather cloudy but no rain. I wish it would rain some to raise the water but the good Lord’s will be don. We had some business today 500” Meal to W.T. Owings and some little home work. Business will liven up I think soon. I want to go down the road and try and sell some flour & Meal some time next week as soon as I can get away. Family all well. Thursday, September 26 Weather pleasant. It looked like rain for a while this morning but it cleared off for a while then it clouded up again but no rain. It has the appearance of a dry spell. We are still running day & night and doing all we can but the water is low and we can not make much head way. We are on corn now an order of Messers Zimmerman & Shultz for 2000” came today will want it tomorrow & we want to have it ready. Aside from that business was dull. All well. Friday, September 27 Weather cool but pleasant and dry. We had a very good day today 35 Bbls family to J.S. Gary & Son & 1500” Meal & 1000” chop also 2000” Meal to Messers Zimmerman & Shultz and some exchangeing and some trade in the Mill. I feal very thankfull as we needed to trade at present it will help me out very much. We are running on corn yet and will the balance of the week when we have no other country work to do. All well. Saturday, September 28 Weather cool and dry we are haveing some frost now of nights some little it feals as we would have a heavy one tonight. Water continues low. We are running on corn. Business has not been so brisk today. Charlie & I went to Frederick this afternoon. I wanted to get some things mostly for the Mill envelopes, paper &c. The wheat and flour market continues quiet rather dull. Family well. Sunday, September 29 Weather cool and pleasant. Sunday School in the morning Class after Church and prayer meeting at night. Meetings not largely attended but good meetings. I was at them all part of my family in the evening in fact all except Ella she is away to school. The remainder of the day I spent at home excepting in the evening. I took a short walk. Sallie and the children walked over to see Mrs. Wiliams. All well. Monday, September 30 Weather a little cloudy but dry and cool. Water was very low most all the forenoon but then got up. Since then we have been running on wheat & cleaning some wheat. The wheat and flour market is still dull but the wheat market is a little better today. Trade was very dull today I am in hopes it will get better soon. We had better not take in any more wheat. All well. Tuesday, October 1 Weather cool and clear and dry. Some little trade today Meal mostly 500” to go today and 500” tomorrow also some trade at home but on the whole the market is slugish. Wheat in the Balto market is a little better today and flour firm. I do not care about takeing in any more wheat untill we get the most of what we have on hand worked off. The water is very low so we cant do much. Family all well. Wednesday, October 2 Weather pleasant and dry. Has been very good weather for the farmers to get in there wheat. Rain is wanted now. The Check I was expecteing came today just in time as I needed it very much. I took it to Bank this evening. We are still running night and day but the water is so low we can not mnake much head way but grind all we can sell and to ship to Balto dos not pay. Family all well. Thursday, October 3 Weather cool and pleasant but very dry and water is very low We are grinding corn but cant do much. Water was pretty good all last night. It gets better when Mr Shiver runs. When he shuts down this time of the year or when water is low we can not do much so his Dam is rather a disadvantage at times. Business tolerable good today in a small way 3 or 4 small orders and some paid up. I paid Mrs. C. Hendry $500 today on corn and wheat. Family all well. Friday, October 4 Weather warm and dry. The water has got very low. We did not run last night on that account and very little today. I am in hopes if the good Lord is willing we will have rain soon. The farmers are about through now seeding and a good rain would do a great deal of good. Trade was very good today I sold 10 Bbls family to W.P. Whiteing 35 Cheapside Balto. at 5.25 delivered at Camden Satation. Also some trade at home. Family all well. Saturday, October 5 Weather continues warm and dry. The water has been so low that we could not run for the last few days but the water got up some time after noon so we have been making good use of it since on wheat now as we want flour about as bad as anything. We got an order from Ilchester for 27 Bbls family but could not send but 10 will try and send the balance next week. They are having a Picknick at the Ijamsville Sunday School this afternoon. All my family are there except Ella and I. Sunday, October 6 Weather quite pleasant. The protracted meetings started at the Ijamsville Church today. Preaching morning and evening by the Pastor Rev. Mr. Kolb also after preaching sacrament in the morning was administered. Quite a large turn out morning and evening. They had our Organ. Mrs. T.L. Crawford performed. Sallie sang with them. Afternoon Charlie, Mr. Clarence Maught & I walked down as far as Mr. Kenney’s Mill. Family all well. Monday, October 7 Weather quite cold with a heavy frost last night and since noon it has been raining some. I am in hopes we will have some rain now it is very much needed. We have had a good head water since almost 10 this morning and we have been making good use of it running two Burs one on wheat & one on chop for Mr. Adison. Trade rather light today one order of 600” Meal to go tomorrow. Wheat market very dull. All well. Tuesday, October 8 Weather quite foggy and looked like rain but cleared away and the Sun came out and was a very pleasant day. Some are glad on account of the Fare. It commenced today at Frederick but rain is wanted very bad. Farmers as well as Millers are in need of rain. We ran all last night and are still running on wheat but the water is getting low. We had two orders for flour one for Balto of 25 Bbls & one from Ilchester for 22 Bbls. Only could send 10 to Balto. All well. Wednesday, October 9 Weather was foggy this morning but cleared off and the day was quite pleasant. Got a little windy I hope it will blow up rain as it is very much needed at present. Our water is very low. We can hardly keep stock on hand for our customers. Short on flour more than any thing else at present. We had another order for flour today same partys sent the wheat they wanted today. I did think I would get off to the Fare today but I could not get off. Thursday, October 10 Weather cool and thretening but no rain today. Charlie & I rode up in the Buggy to the Fare and had a very pleasant day. We had all the time that was needed to see all that was to be seen. A good many were there but not crowded. Nelson was alone in the Mill some little trade and some Bills paid. I also collected one Bill at the fare. I am not so well this evening. Friday, October 11 Weather pleasant a little cool and windy and no sign of rain. Business has been rather dull today. We started on Mid as we could do nothing else to advantage. Water is still very low. We are not able to fill our orders for flour on that account. The wheat and flour market is very flat wheat off again at 95 to 1.00 in Balto. for best fultz wheat. The boys picked Aples this evening not so many this year. All well. Saturday, October 12 Weather cool and dry very little signs of rain yet. It is getting to be a very dry spell. Water is very low. I am a fraid we will not be able to fill our orders for flour & Meal if we do not have rain soon. I do hope it will rain soon. Business not very brisk today. The wheat and flour market is very flat off again wheat fultz which is about the best now is only [--] in Balto. at 95 to 1.00 per Bus. Sunday, October 13 Weather continues about the same dry and cool. We had Sabbath School and Class this morning and prayer meeting in the evening. A very large attendance in the evening. Most of the people came out to here preaching but was disappointed as no preacher came. Thos. W. Crawford led the meeting he spoke very well. Two up to the Alter a young Mr. Baker & a young girl from G.L. Crawford. May the good Lord bless the people. Monday, October 14 Weather continues very dry. We are doing nothing this morning on account of the water not enough to start with and no signs of rain yet. I do hope it will rain soon. This afternoon we have a good head of water owing to Mr. Shiver using the water out of his Dam but it wont last long without it rains. We had some business today 500” Meal from J.S.G. & Son. We are running on wheat now. All well. I rec a letter of Ella. Tuesday, October 15 Weather cool but pleasant. Business tolerable good today being pay day on the R Road. It is still very dry and the water very low. We ran all night last night on wheat and we had a very good head water but it is getting very low now. Wednesday, October 16 Weather cool and pleasant and still very dry and no signs of rain. Water very low. Had to stop grinding last night on that account. Another order of Kennedy Co. took all the flour in the Mill except about 2 Bbls in the chest. I hope we will be able to get some ground by the time J.S. Gary & Son orders. They generally order about the last of the month.. Business tolerable good if we only had water. All well. Thursday, October 17 Weather windy and looks some like a change in the weather but all signs fail in dry weather as they say and it appears to be the case this dry spell. Business light but as the water is so low it dos not matter so much. Mrs Ellen Frazier came to see us today. She is on her way back to Covington. She is looking very well. We are very glad to have her with us. Family all well. Friday, October 18 Weather cloudy and wet. It commenced last night we have had a very good rain which was very much needed both for farmers and Millers. We have been making good use of it grinding wheat & cleaning this afternoon. We are using up all the water but very little is lost. I am in hopes we will have more before it clears off. Ellen Frazier went back to Balto to get ready to return home this morning. She did not stop long with us. Saturday, October 19 Weather windy and cold all day and rather cloudy with little rain. Business rather good today especially the exchangeing. We have had a good head of water all last night and today. I am in hopes we will have more rain about the first of the week. Charlie & I went to town in the Bugy. We wanted a few things. We got an Over Coat a piece 12.50 for the two also a Hat for myself. Mr. Crawford delivered the rest of the corn for Mrs Hendry today. All well. Sunday, October 20 Weather cool but pleasant. Sabbath School in the morning and preaching in the evening by Rev. Jas. Crawford. Very good attendance both at the Sabbath School and preaching. The subject in the evening was more to Church members not working as they should for the convertion of sinners. The afternoon I spent at home except a short walk, rather quiet about Ijamsville today. All well. Monday, October 21 Weather cool and pleasant and dry. We have a good head water today while Mr Shiver is using it up from his Dam. We are running two Burs one on wheat & one on white Midlings in that way we are turning out flour about 1 Bbl to the hour. I am not so sure the flour will be so good. I am having it tried at the House to see how it will bake. Business rather dull today except home trade. All well. Tuesday, October 22 Weather cloudy in the afternoon and rather thretening. Some more rain would help us considerable as the water is getting low again. We have been making very good head way on wheat we have nearly 30 Bbls not ahead. (sic). I am in hopes we will have enough soon to fill the orders after we get enough to fill Messers J.S.G. & Son which generally comes at the end of the month to send more to Mr. W.P. Whiteing & Co. all well. Wednesday, October 23 Weather rather stormy all day it rained most all last night so the water was quite high all day. We had to raise the Wast Gate and has been up all day. It is pretty well all over the meddow. It has not stoped us from running we have been grinding and cleaning wheat all day. I am glad we have water and has come so we were not ingered in any way. Business not very brisk today. All well. Thursday, October 24 Weather cool and pleasant after the rain. The storm did not do us any damage but has in different parts of the country. We got off well. The water has been good since the rain and we ran two Burs at a time one on wheat & one on corn now. We sent 15 Bbls family to Balto to W.P. Whiteing & Co. at 5.12 ½ per Bus. Business just tolerable. Some enquiries for price of Meal. Some Buckwheat came in first of the season. All well. Friday, October 25 Weather cool and clear. We still have a good head water and have been running two Burs one on wheat and one on corn. We don well in doing so as we had an order for 2500” Meal today 200” to Z&S Sykesville & 500” to Mr. J.S.G. & Son Elysville. We have been able so far all the season to fill all orders for Meal. We are runing now on wheat & corn and I don well in engageing Mrs. Hendry’s crop corn as it has turned out. All well. Saturday, October 26 Weather cool but pleasant. The water is not so strong we are only running one Bur this afternoon that on country work. We had an order of 3 Bbls family and 300” Meal to go to Ilchester. Aside from that Business was rather dull. Sallie & I rode up to Frederick. She wanted to get some things for Ella. We got back about dusk it is a very pleasant ride in good weather. Family all well. Sunday, October 27 Weather cool but pleasant. At Sunday School and Class. Then was to be a prayer meeting in the evening but it rained some and there was none on that account. I spent the day at home after school & class reading a Book I brought from Sunday School. It is a very good Book. I liked it very much. We have some very good Books in our S. School Library. Our school was not very full today. All well. Monday, October 28 Weather cool and clear it rained some last night but clear this morning. We have been running on wheat & white Midlings running the two Burs. It dos very well that way when we have a good head of water while the midlings last but as the Bur is large it grinds faster then the other Bur makes midlings it would be better to have a smaller Bur. Business tolerable good for Meal today. Family all well. Tuesday, October 29 Weather pleasant forepart of the day. Afternoon blew up and commenced to rain in the evening. Sallie & I went to town after the tranes in the morning. She wanted to get some things for Ella and I wanted to go up on some bus. also. Wheat market rather flat again wheat worth 90 to 92cts per Bus. We filled an order of J.H. Leisher for 1000” Meal delivered at Ellicott City at 1.25 per 100”. Aside from that business was dull. Family all well. Wednesday, October 30 Weather cool and cloudy most of the day but no rain. It rained about all last night caused a good flush head water. We commenced to clean wheat last night when the water got up so we could do that and grind. Have been running two Burs most of today. We had a good order of J.S.G. & Son 35 Bbls family and 2800” Meal & chop. Sent off the most of it today. Expect to send the balance tomorrow. We have been very busy all day. All well. Thursday, October 31 Weather cool and frosty. It is getting like fall the leaves are pretty well off. We finished Jas. S. Gary & Son order today. We commenced to put up our down spout or Boot. It is about 16X13 in. square running the full hight of Mill for a chop spout to save labour. I think it will be quite an improvement. I worked at it till midnight, I want to get it finished. We have had good head water since the rains and we have been running night and day. All well. Friday, November 1 Weather cool and pleasant. We ran on corn last night and I worked till Midnight on my down Box for chop. I want to get it finished I am very much pleased with it. It will save a great deal of work and not dust so much. Business was not so brisk today but we were very busy grinding Midlings on the two Burs and what spare time I had I was at work on the down Box. I have it about finished. Family all well. Saturday, November 2 Weather pleasant but the nights are cold. We have been quite busy for the last few days. I have been quite busy on some improvements about the country work we sent Rev J. ?. Turner, Ella’s Principal at her School. It will suit me better then the cost at present. We also sent a little lot down the road to Ilchester they are very good customers so far. Charlie went to Hood’s Mill [--] [--] Family well. Sunday, November 3 Weather cool and pleasant. Sabbath School and preaching by the preacher in charge Rev. Mr. Kolb. Prayer meeting at night but I did not go. I was at work all last week and lost a good deal of rest and I did not feal like going out but I presume I should have don so. I must go as often as I can and try and help to do my part if only filling my seat. Sometimes our presence dos some good. All well. Monday, November 4 Weather cool and pleasant. We have been busy all day grinding and cleaning wheat takeing in some yellow corn of Mr. Smith at 40cts per Bus old corn and very good. We need some yellow corn at present. The wheat and flour market is stronger the last few days flour 25cts better wheat 5 or 6 cts better 1.00 to 1.06 in Balto. I am glad to have it keep up. We had some trade from below today. Family all well. Tuesday, November 5 Weather quite cool all day it froze some last night. We are still running night and day but only one Bur today as the water is not so high since the cold dry weather. Wheat and flour has taken a rise. Wheat in Town is 1.00 to 1.02 for fultz & 1.06 ½ for Lancaster. We put our flour up 25cts per Bbl today. Sallie & I went to Frederick and back this afternoon. She wanted to get some things for Ella. Today is Ellection day. Family well. Wednesday, November 6 Weather cool but pleasant. We were not very busy today. We had some orders for flour 25 Bbls to W.P. Whiteing Co. Balto and 25 Bbls to James Kennedy & Co. Ilchester. Expect to send part tomorrow. We sent Geo A. McComas 1 ton feed @ 17.50 ton. I planted some trees that I engaged some time ago 3 cherys and 2 crab apples. I planted them in the garden next to the House. I am in hopes they will do well. All well. Thursday, November 7 Weather wet all the forenoon. Rained some before day. We need some rain. We have been running on wheat most of the week night and day. We sent 25 Bbls to Balto today to Wm. P. Whiteing Co. delivered at $5.37 ½ per Bbl. We also have an order to go off tomorrow to Ilchester delivered at $5.50. Wheat and flour has been better for the last few days but I do not think it will last long. The market is not very steady. Family all well. Friday, November 8 Weather cool and windy. We are running on wheat yet night and day. We sent off 25 Bbls more today to Ilchester and 900” Meal. Business in the Mill tolerable good some exchangeing and sales. Mr. N.J. Worthington priced his wheat today that he has in the mill at 1.00 per Bus. Wheat was rather strong in Balto today’s paper, 2cts better then yesterday. I do not think it will differ very much either way. All well. Saturday, November 9 Weather cool and dry. We changed off from wheat and went on country work took up the wheat Bur washed and commenced to widen the fures and makeing them a little deeper. I think she will do better work then and faster. Business has not been vey brisk today. Sent 800” feed to Mr. Jones, Morgan to take the same weight in Rye. Wheat is rather dull in Balto today. All well. Sunday, November 10 Weather cool but quite pleasant. Sunday School and Class Meeting. I did not go out to prayer meeting after I came home in the morning. I read and rested my self. I took a short walk in the evening and then spent the remainder of the day at home. Rather quiet about Ijamsville today. Ella is still away to school. Charlie off rideing some place. All well. Monday, November 11 Weather cool and pleasant. Business rather dull today. We finished dressing our wheat Burs. Have been grinding Mid and cleaning wheat all day. I am in hopes we can grind better and faster now on the new dress.We made the furers wider and deeper. I want to make all the mid we can. The wheat and flour market is not so strong today. I am a fraid wheat will go off again. All well. Tuesday, November 12 Weather rather thretening cool and windy part of the time. It rained some last night but not enough to raise the water. Water is quite low this evening most too low to grind. We have been running on wheat since about 9 O’clock last night Business was very dull today very quiet. This afternoon Nelson & I took the smutter down to try and find the cause of it cutting the wheat so bad but could not discover anything. All well. Wednesday, November 13 Weather cool and windy and rather cloudy. We have had quite a good head water since about 11 O’clock last night running on wheat. We sent off 25 Bbls today to Wm. P. Whiteing & Co. Baltimore at 5.25 per Bbl delivered at Camden Station. It cost 25cts per Bbl to Balto freight. There is very little made on flour at that price but that is all I can get. Wheat is off again here today only worth about 93 per Bus Family all well. Thursday, November 14 Weather cool and dry. We were not very busy today only one order for 10 Bbls family in 1/8 sacks Ilchester. We are running on wheat. I went to town this afternoon to take some money to Bank and to get some things. Thos. L. Crawford came home with me in the Buggy. The wheat and flour market is not so strong as it was a few days ago. Wheat worth about 1.00 per Bus corn 40cts. Family all well. Friday, November 15 Weather cool and dry. We are running on Midlings and cleaning wheat all day. We ran all night on wheat. Business rather dull for shiping as we had nothing to ship today but the [--] trade at home is tolerable good.Some little Buckwheat came in gave 50cts per Bus for it not very good. The wheat and flour market quiet in Balto. I am thinking about going to Balto in the morning. I want to hear Moody & attend to some business & try and sell some flour. All well. Saturday, November 16 Weather cool and pleasant but not as cool as it was a few days ago. I went to Baltimore today. I had some little business to attend to and I wanted to hear the Rev. Mr. Moody preach. He is in Balto for the winter. I stoped in Ellicott on my way down to see some of my customers but did not do much with them. Money is very tite with them I find and business very dull. Got good promises. Sunday, November 17 In Baltimore weather cloudy and damp all day. I stoped all night with Lizzie McDonald and Mother Slicer they are all well. I went to our Sunday School at 9 O’clock. They have a very fine Sunday School there. 279 notwithstanding the bad weather. I spoke to out Pastor about our membership there as we have been away so long. I was a fraid they mite strike our names from the Books. The Pastor promised to see about it. I heard Mr. Moody there in the afternoon. I like him very much. Monday, November 18 Weather cloudy but no rain today. I finished what I had to do and returned home today found all well and glad to see me. I went again to hear Mr. Moody last night at Grace Church Laffaett Square. The Church is a very large Church and very much crowded. I was some what disapointed as he preached the same sermon I heard in the afternoon but it was very good and hearing it the second time did me no harm. He is a very fine looking man. I hope he will do a great deal of good. Tuesday, November 19 Weather pleasant rather warm with the appearance of rain. We are still running night and day on wheat very good head water now. Business tolerable good today in a small way. We sent 1 ton feed to John [--] Woodstock at 17 per ton delivered. The wheat and flour market is still down and not expected to better soon it may in the later part of the season. The crops is large through out the country. Family all well. Wednesday, November 20 Weather pleasant. Has the appearance of rain. We shipped to W.P. Whiteing & Co 25 Bbls family today at 5.25 delivered at Camden. That is very low for it but is all we can get at this time. There is very little margen on flour now or anything. Wheat is a little firmer today or in today’s paper this is yesterday’s market. Trade at home is rather dull today. Every thing is quiet and a great deal of complaining of hard times. Family well. Thursday, November 21 Weather cloudy with some rain and has very much the appearance of a wet night. We ran all night and all day on wheat packing now. Got a Postal of Mr. W.P. Whiteing & Co not to send any more flour at present can do better is one of the reasons. The market is very dull but I do not think it will get any worse. I am in hopes it will get better after the Hollidays. Business has been dull at home today. Wheat is worth about 95cts per Bus today. Family well. Friday, November 22 Weather rainy and it rained some last night but has not raised the water yet. I hope we will not have a flood a good jentle rain will do good. We sent C Edwin Stine & Co. 10 Bbls family today also filled an order of Wm. Davis for 4 Bbls family. Aside from that business was dull. The Pick up trane in putting on a Car broke my Skids we used in loading flour. I am trying to get the Co. to make us another pair. All well. Saturday, November 23 Weather cool and windy. It cleared off last night. The boys all went agunning today. I have been alone in the Mill and have been quite busy most of the time on exchangeing &c. Filled two small orders one for 500” Meal to J.S. Gary & Son. I have been grinding Buckwheat since noon. The wheat and flour market is very flat today. I do not see how it can get any worse. It is below producung price now. Family all pretty well. Sunday, November 24 Weather cool but pleasant. I was at Sunday School and Class in the morning. I did not go out any more all day except in the evening to feed the Hogs and help Willie to Milk as Charlie is away this evening. Willie is not quite old enough to do such work yet. He is rather small for his age but willing to do. Ella is away to school the only one of the family that is away. Well today is my 50th Birth day and feel to thank the good Lord for health and strength. Family all well. Monday, November 25 Weather quite pleasant but has the appearance this evening of rain soon. We have been tolerable busy today filled one small order of three Bbls flour in sacks to go to Ilchester. We have been grinding corn till noon and cleaning wheat. We are now on wheat. The wheat and flour market is a little better today but the margen on flour is very light. We are not shiping any flour this season to Commition men it will not pay to do so. Family all well. Thanks. Tuesday, November 26 Weather pleasant but looks like snow or rain. We were not very busy today on account of business but had aplenty to do about the Mill. We commenced to make Hominy this afternoon and grind Mid. We had some 3 or 4 Bus Hominy left over that we have been using it keeps well. I also don a little whitewashing at the House. The flour market is rather dull today but prices about the same 5.25 for family. All well. Wednesday, November 27 Weather cloudy and wet all day rained quite hard just about dusk and raised the water to almost a flood. We have been grinding Midlings and cleaning wheat. We got an order of J.S. Gary & Sin for 20 Bbls family. I am a fraid his order for this month will not be as large as it has been last 2 or 3 months. They got 35 Bbls. I am in hopes they will order again soon. The flour market is rather flat. I rec a check of 201. 24 Dollars fro W.P. Whiteing & Co today on apc. Family all well. Thursday, November 28 Weather quite windy at times and cold. It cleared off last night. The water was quite high but we did not have to raise the wast gate. We have been running on wheat all day and all night. We had a small order of Mr. W.T. Weller to be filled tomorrow also an inquire of J.S.G. & Son for the price of flour that would do for [--]. I answered we had none except our best family at 5.25 delivered. I do not think that will suit. We got our Turnips up and [--]. All well. Friday, November 29 Weather very pleasant today not as cool as we expected after the rain. We filled Mr. Weller’s order today that was the most we had to do today except exchangeing and some little trade. We have been busy working about the mill grinding and cleaning wheat all day. We have a good head of water since the rain. I don some more whitewashing today to the chicken pen. Every thing appears quiet in business. Family all well thanks to the good Lord. Saturday, November 30 Weather pleasant and cool and mostly very healthy weather. Business has fallen off very much for the last few days. They say the flolur is not so good. I have ordered a Purifier and am in hopes then we can make our grade of flour more regular. I am trying my best to keep the grade up but find trouble to do so for some cause I do not understand. Charlie & I went to town this afternoon. All well. Sunday, December 1 Weather cool and pleasant we are having a fine fall so far. I was at Church & Preaching on the morning regular preaching day today in the morning. Our School was very small today I only had three in my Class. I did not go out any more after I returned home spent the time in Reading a Book I got at School. We have some very good Books. Family all well. Monday, December 2 Weather very pleasant all day. We had some rain last night but today has been like a Spring day. I am in hopes we will have a warm Winter. We are running on wheat. Business very dull no orders today and business rather dull about home. The wheat and flour market is very quiet and dull. I am in hopes times will get better after the Hollidays. There is a great deal of complaining about hard times with most every body. All well. Tuesday, December 3 Weather rather wintery cold and raw but no snow and for the season the weather is good. There was a little more life in business today. Z&S sent up for 1000” Meal. They pay freight. Also some money and an order from Ellicott City for 10 Bbls & 300” Meal. We have been grinding Mid & making Hominy all day. The flour market is a little better in Balto today wheat off a little. Family all well. Wednesday, December 4 Weather cool & thretening rain or snow but none of either yet. Business tolerable good today. Filled two or 3 orders for partys below of flour, feed, meal &c. We are not running all night now as we have plenty ahead but will run late and early. The wheat and flour market is better today but no higher for flour rather off in wheat 1.00 to 1.04 in Balto for fultz the best long Berry Amber 1.10. Family all well. Thursday, December 5 Weather quite cool and windy all day about I think the coldest day we have had. Business not so brisk today. We have been running on wheat all day we do not run all night now but run late and early. The flour market is a little stronger in Balto for the last day or so. I commenced a little shed off from the Meat House today to put coal in cover it with slate. It will make a very handy place for that purpose. Family all well Ella is still at school. Friday, December 6 Weather at times was quite windy but aside from that it would have been rather pleasant. I kept quite busy at the coal shead to get it finished. Mr. Lemuel Poole put the slate Roof on. We had the [--] I did not let it cost very much. Willie stayed home from school to help and we got it nearly finished. Business was not very brisk in the Mill today Nelson worked alone there all day. Family all very well. Saturday, December 7 Weather cool but not as windy as it was at times yesterday. I finished the coal shed all except whitewashing. Business was very dull today no orders and very little doing. The wheat and flour market is about the same one dollar for wheat is about the standing price in Frederick. It will only bring about 1.00 in Balto market. Feed is bring a very good price 18 to 20 dollars ton in Balto. Family all well. Sunday, December 8 Weather rather threteing but no rain or snow untill late in the evening it commenced to snow some. I was out to Sunday School and Class but did not go out any more all day except to feed up in the evening. I spent the afternoon and evening reading a book I brought from Sabbath School Travels in Rome and Europe rather interesting. Sallie has not been so well today or the last few days in fact the rest of the family are well. Monday, December 9 Weather rather wintery today about the first wintery day we have had this fall the first snow it commenced last night. We have had rather a dull gloomy day foggy and damp and not very much business either except some exchangeing. We have been running on corn all day. We are not very busy now pretty well ahead with the grinding. Trade has fallin off. Family all well. Tuesday, December 10 Weather quite wet all day and very little doing. We are running on wheat today nothing else to do. Nelson and I fixed up to kill Hogs tomorrow but will not if it continues so wet. I am sorry we did not kill sooner. I would have done so but some of the Hogs were so small and I wanted to give them more time. The most of our Hogs are quite small. Sallie went to Frederick to get some things and get a dress made for Maudie. I am a fraid she will get wet. Wednesday, December 11 Weather very rough this morning and last night almost a gale wind and snow. We made prepparations to kill our Hogs this morning the weather was very bad but we thought we would start so we started some time before day to get ready and commenced just at light and got through about noon. We had 14 in all and weighed 2215” in all. The heaviest weighed 253 Lightest 73 average 158. Some of the Hogs don very well and some don very badley. Family all well. Thursday, December 12 Weather cool and pleasant. Nelson and I cut up the Hogs today and the folk at the House have been busy all day with the Lard, puding &c all day. I stayed at the Mill and worked I liked that part of the work much better. Business not very brisk except exchangeing that has been tolerable good. I have been grinding wheat since noon. The wheat and flour market is still very dull. Family all well. Friday, December 13 Weather dry and cool just the weather we need for the Meat. We are still working at it puding, lard &c. Nelson & I salted the meat down this evening. We have a good lot of every thing and I think a good lot of Meat. I had to stay about the Mill most of the time and was quite busy. Ran on wheat all day. We filled W.T. Weller’s order. Some wheat came in to be left for Bread. The wheat and flour market is off again some. Family all well. Saturday, December 14 Weather cloudy and wet part of the afterpart of the day. Business was very slack today no orders from below. We put in the time grinding wheat nothing else to do. We have about 125 Bbls flour now ground. It will come in good if it turns cold and freezes up like it dos some Winters. Charlie & I went to Frederick this evening very lively in town farmers getting there Christmas things. We got some things. We are about through with buchering. All well. Sunday, December 15 Weather cloudy and wet all day at times it snowed quite hard but did not lay long rather wintery day. I did not go out all day but spent it in reading. It is tiresom for me to stay in the House all day. There was no School or Preaching on account of the rain. Today was the day for preaching too. The Children are talking about Christmas all ready what they are going to do and what they want. I wish I had aplenty to give them. Monday, December 16 Weather rather pleasant for a wintery day. Little over cast but no rain good healthy day. Business very dull again today. We ran on wheat. We took the wheat Bur up and put a new greas collar on and fixed the keys to some of the followers which was [--]. The wheat market and flour market was a little better in Balto. Saturday but I am a fraid flour & wheat will be dull for some time yet. Family well. Tuesday, December 17 Weather pleasant in the morning but has the appearance of snow very much this evening. Nelson received a Note this morning of the sickness of his youngest sister Deftheny(?) and requested to come home at once. I am a fraid she will not get over it. I am alone in the Mill in consequence. Have been grinding Midlings and cleaning wheat. Business has been dull except the exchangeing that has been tolerable good. Family all pretty well thanks to the good Lord. Wednesday, December 18 Weather cold all day and freezeing. I did not run today. Nelson was away and we are not very busy having a plenty of everything on hand except Hominy and for that we want corn. There is no corn [--] yet in large quanties. I want to get some just as soon as I can. Business is very dull except the grist work. I have no reason to complain but no orders from below. I have not felt so well today Thursday, December 19 Weather cold but not real bad weather for the time of year. I have been running all day it did not freeze on the Wheel yet. I am alone and have been rite busy all day. Business has been a little better today had two small orders to go away. I rec’d a Postal of Nelson stateing his sister is better and will be home tomorrow. I do hope she may get well. I have been grinding wheat all day will go on country work tomorrow. I am not fealing very well. Friday, December 20 Weather still cold and wintery but no snow yet of any note. We have been running on wheat all day. Business still quite dull home trade tolerable good. Nelson came home this morning. His sister is something better but not out of dainger yet. Ella came home from school on the Mail this evening. She is looking very well. We are all glad to see her she came home to spend the holidays. The wheat and flour market is dull. Family all well. Saturday, December 21 Weather has been quite wintery all day. When we got up this morning the ground was covered and still snowing. It is now some 3 or 4 in deep. Ella came home on the Mail last evening she is looking well and we are all glad to see her. Business rather dull except at home it is just tolerable good. We have been grinding corn and Buckwheat all day. I am in hopes business will revive after the Holidays. I am not feeling so well again. Sunday, December 22 Weather quite wintery all day snowing quite hard at times. Looks more like winter then any day this winter. I did not go out of the House all day. I do not feal very well. I took Blue Mass a few days ago and I am a fraid it has got in my bones. I spent the day reading. Ella is home from school and is looking well. Will stay till after New Year. Rather quiet in Ijamsville today walking is so bad. Monday, December 23 Weather cold and the ground covered with snow and tolerable good sleying. We have been running on Hominy and corn Meal all day. The Race is froze over but not on the Wheal so we can grind very well. Business is very dull except at home. We need not complain alltho that is not very heavy (sic). I am suffering very much with some thing like Rhumatism. I am a fraid it is the Blue Mass. Tuesday, December 24 Weather quite cold and wintery. The ground is covered with snow and very good Sleighing. Sallie & I went to Frederick took the Cars as it is so cold. We wanted to get some things for the Children for Christmas and some coal. Business tolerable good today filled 2 or 3 orders below and trade at home was very good. Charlie went to Balto to spend his Holliday. I would rather had Him at home. Wednesday, December 25 Weather wintery ground covered with snow very good sleighing but most too cold for pleasure I think. Charlie is away in Baltimore to spend his Holliday. We miss him from home. I hope he will enjoy him self and not stay very long. The rest of the family were at home all day. We did not call any nor did we receive many callers. It was very quiet in Ijamsville today. I stayed at home all day and spent a very quiet day. Family all well. Thursday, December 26 Weather not quite so cold today has been thawing some. We did not let in the water on the wheal the ice is about 4 in thick on the Race. As we are not very busy we may not start up this week. Our Neighbours are getting in the ice today. It has been quiet today business very dull. Sallie & Willie went to Frederick and back on the trane. Nelson came home this morning. He spent his Christmas at home. Family all well. Friday, December 27 Weather has been very cold all day and freezeing very hard. Ice must be 6 or 8 in thick on the Race. We have the water shut off and standing still. We have aplenty of every thing on hand. Our load coal came today. I only got 4 tons. We halled it up to the house and found it quite a cold jpob. Charlie is still away. Business is quite dull again except some little doing at home. Family all well. Saturday, December 28 Ella and Maud went to Hood’s Mill today. Weather not quite so cold today but has been quiet wintery. Our Neighbours are cutting Ice off the Race and I notice it is almost 6 in thick. We have not run the Mill but very little this week. Business has been very dull this week. I do not think I ever new it this dull before. I have had the blews all day. Business so dull and Nelson is going away. Well I hope that all things will work together for good. I trust that the good Lord will gide me in all I do and that all things may be for the best. All well. Sunday, December 29 Weather cold and wintery but no falling weather. Tolerable good Sleighing yet. We had Sunday School and Preaching this morning but owing to the cold weather and being slipery there was not many people out to School and not very full congregation at preaching. I thought the Rev. Mr. Kolb our Preacher don better then I ever hered him before. The balance of the day I spent at home reading. Our family is small today. Monday, December 30 Weather still cold and wintery but not quite so cold in the middle of the day. We did not let in the water yet as we are not in want of any thing very bad. I took the feeder off from the flour Bolt today to make room for driving power for the Purifier. We got an ordre of J.S. Gary & Son for 25 Bbls family. It went off on the Way trane 5.20 delivered in Bbls & 5.00 in Bags. Nelson G. Jones is going to leave me on the first of January. Family well. Tuesday, December 31 Weather continues wintery alltho this evening it has the appearance of rain. The Moon changed this morning and I think we will have a change of weather soon. I would like to see it get warm enough to run the Mill for a while. I am tired doing nothing so long. Business very dull today except a small order of C.W. Harvey Esq. Ellicott City. Nelson G. Jones leaves me tomorrow. I have engaged Ollie Plane to help us. I will take Charlie with me in the Mill after school brakes up and I want Ollie to attend to the Cows, Horse, Garden &c. and when he has nothing else to do work in the Mill. He agrees to come for $50.00 a year and have his close washed, mended &c at his home. I think with his help and Charlie I can get along in the Mill but I expect to have to work some thing harder then I have since Nelson has been with me but I do not care for that so we can get along and I can keep my health and strength but I am some what a fraid that my back will give out. Well I feal I have at the close of another year great reason to be thankfull to our Heavenly Father for his Kindness in helping us all with health and spareing our lives and also blessing us all with health and today finds us enjoying all the blessings we mite wish for and I trust that the same kind Father that has so abundantley blessed us in the past will continue to bless us not only through another year but through all time to come.
