Last night was too cool without fire to be up. We ran the Mill all night and I found it quite cool about one and two O’clock. We filled two orders today to Woodstock 13 Bbls flour in all Fahey 6 & Weller 7 Bbls. We are running on Midlings all day and cleaning up to commence on wheat again. We have but very little flour ahead now. It suits very well as the market is rather off. All well. Wednesday, July 2 Weather warm in the Sun but quite pleasant in the shade. Business not very brisk today. We are running on wheat since we cleaned up. We are grinding the poor midlings now on the mid Bur but Bolting on the country [--] and find it gives less trouble as the returns do not need [--] and saves the Merchant cloth. We are running two Burs on wheat since the water got up. I find it an advantage as we can do more work. Family all well. Thursday, July 3 Weather very dry and warm. We need rain now very much. Our garden shows the need of it very much. I hope the good Lord will send us a good jintle rain in his good time. We could not do much today on account of low water had to shut down most all day. We had some trade below for meal sent off all we had ground. Did not have enough to fill the orders will grind more just as soon as water comes up. Some trade at home as usual. All well. Friday, July 4 Weather dry and warm but looks rather stormy this evening. We need a good jintle rain now if the good Lord will. I have been alone in the Mill most of the day. Charlie went with Phil Detrick to a Sunday School Picknick somewhere about Pleasant Grove of the M. P? Church. I ran the Mill when the water would alow of it run a while then stop. Some little local trade. All well. Saturday, July 5 Weather not quite so warm today but still continues very dry and the water is very dry about one half of the time here lately we are standing idle. Very good head today we are runing two Burs most all day on wheat but we cannot keep up with our work have more orders now then we can fill. I am in hopes it will be better soon. I am sorry we did not have more flour ahead. Willie & I went to town this eve. Sunday, July 6 Weather warm in the Sun but we had a good breeze and on the whole it was a very pleasant day it still continues dry. We had a very good attendance at Sunday School today but alltho the Organ has come we did not get it up. I thought it best as since Crawford was away the lady we wanted to play for us and we also want to have the Church cleaned before we put it in. Class after school. Family all well. Monday, July 7 Weather pleasant but still very dry. I am in hopes in the good Lord’s good time He will send us rain. Bro. Poole started on our back Porch today. I have been helping him some. I also gave the cistern another coat of sement. Business rather dull. Having been running on wheat all day with two Burs as we have plenty of water today and we want to use as much of it as we can. All well. Tuesday, July 8 Weather cloudy with some little rain it rained a little last night. We still want more for corn gardens vegetables &c. but it is very good weather on farmers that are threshing there wheat and getting it in. We are taking in Elias Baker’s crop he raised on Mrs. Ijams place. It is not a very large grane wheat but in very good condition and looks very well excepting it is not very clean. Some small orders from below. Charlie went to town this evening. All well. Wednesday, July 9 Weather rather thretening rain which we need very much if the good Lord will send it. We were very busy all day taking up some more wheat Mr. Baker’s at present also some 4 or 5 orders came to be filled. We filed 4 or 5 small ones and have about as many now for tomorrow if we can get them ready. Our trade is very good at present all we can do. Could do more if we had the water. Family all well. Thursday, July 10 Weather warm and dry it appears to have cleared off without much rain. Gardens is almost dryed up for want of rain. The good Lord will send it in his good time. We get a grate deal more then we deserve. Our trade was very good today most of it went below. Most of it was feed some little flour and Meal. I spent part of my time helping with the shed next to the citchen and pump house &c. Family all well. Friday, July 11 Weather warm with a gust in the evening but rather wind then rain while from appearances there was considerable South of us. We need rain. Water is very low so much so that we can not do all the grinding we mite. An order [came] today we could not fill will try and get it ready for tomorrow. I put up the wall that fell some time ago in the tale Race we also finished the citchen addition. All well. Thanks. Saturday, July 12 Weather rather cloudy but no rain. We had a little fell yesterday but not enough to do much good. Water has been very low all the forenoon better now in the aftrenoon. We filed an order of A.A. Fahey 5 Bbls family in Bags @ 5.25. Trade has been tolerable good. We are running on wheat now but as the water is low we cannot make very much head way. I am in hopes the good Lord will send us rain soon. His will be don. Family all very well. Sunday, July 13 Weather pleasant. We had a very good turn out today at Sunday School. We had the Organ there but no one to play it as Mrs. T.L. Crawford’s Babe is sick she could not come. Her sister Miss Daisy Hood played one or two pieces for us. Every one appears pleased with the Organ. There was to have been preaching in the evening by Bro. March but Charles Crawford who promised to go for him failed to do so there was a grate disappointment. Monday, July 14 Weather cool and pleasant but very dry. We need rain very much and I hope the good Lord will send us soon. We have been running on wheat and mid all day with two Burs on Monday. The water is better owing to the dams above us. Trade tolerable good. The wheat and flour market is rather off but steady. Wheat worth 1.04 in town today about 1.14 in Balto. Flour 5 to 6 dollars per Bbl. Family well. Tuesday, July 15 Weather very warm and dry it has the appearance of some rain at present. I do hope the good Lord will send us a good jintle rain as it is so much needed. Our gardens is almost dryed up and the water is so low we can scarcely do anything. Have been idle most all day on that account. Business is light at present and it is as well as we can not fill orders if we had them. All well. Wednesday, July 16 Weather continues very dry and warm. We are in want of rain very bad. The gardens are almost dryed up and water is so low we can scarcely do anything except on Mondays. About the middle and last of the week we can do but very little. Its as well that business is dull as we can dispose of all we can grind now. We sent out 500” Meal to Grove Ridgeville that was all the orders we had. Some trade at home Pay Day. Thursday, July 17 Weather very pleasant but still very dry. It has some signs of rain. We may have rain the last of this week the Moon changes Saturday. If we do not have rain the corn crop about here will be very short. We put the new cloth on the head of the Merchant Reel today. Sallie helped me and I think that we made a good job of it. We have been running on Rye today. Water very low. All well. Friday, July 18 Weather more pleasant then it was for the last few days but no rain yet alltho there is some signs of rain. I do hope that it will come soon as we need it very much. Water is so low we can scarcely do anything some trade today and some orders filled some will fill the balance as soon as we can get it ground. Charlie went to town today but got back about noon. We have the new cloth all ready for use. All well. Saturday, July 19 Weather still continues dry but not quite so warm as it has been. Last night was quite pleasant. Our trade was very good today. If we only had some rain so we would have more water. I am afraid if it dos not rain soon we will not be able to grind. We cant run now more then one third of the time. I am in hopes and pray we will have rain soon as we need it so much. Family all very well thanks to the good Lord. Sunday, July 20 Weather quite pleasant but still very dry. We had a very pleasant school this morning. A Mrs. Riggs played for us. Mrs Crawford is away with her children which is sick. We expect her to play for us when ever she can. I would like very much to see the school prosper. I will do all I can to that end. Some of our children are sick. I went to see one in the evening a Miss Moxley her father is also sick got a fall. Family all well. Monday, July 21 Weather quite pleasant with a good breeze last night was cool and pleasant but no rain yet. The water is so low we can scarcely do any thing. I am afraid we will have to stop all together if we do not have rain soon. We had a good head for a while this morning that collected in the Dams above yesterday but soon ran down. I engaged some wheat today at 1.00 per Bus. Wheat is off in Balto=Trade good=Family well. Tuesday, July 22 Weather warm but a good breeze blowing still very dry and from appearances no signs of rain. We ran the Mill all last night and a good deal of today under rather light head. I am in hopes the good Lord will send us rain soon. Mr. W. Hammond is delivering his wheat today about one hundred Bus tolerable good wheat for this season. The wheat is not as good this season as last. Business very light today. Family well. Wednesday, July 23 Weather very dry and warm. Scarcely any water to grind with. Orders comeing in [--] to water to grind with but if it would rain in a day or so I could hold my trade but I do not know what will come of us if it dos not rain soon. I am fealing very sad today partly on that account and a note Wm.T. Weller gave me some time ago for 250$ came back Protested and he owes me about 150 dollars besides that. I will have to go and see him again. All well. Thursday, July 24 Weather warm and gusty. Rained quite hard boath below and above us but as yet we have but very little. I am in hopes will have some before long. Thos. Crawford is halling his crop of wheat some 200 Bus it is very good wheat about the best I have seen pay 1.00 for it. This afternoon I went to see Weller about his bill but did not get to see him as he was away. I am in hopes to hear from him soon. All well. Friday, July 25 Weather thretening all the forenoon and commenced raining about the middle of the afternoon with prospects of a good rain. I do hope it will continue untill we have aplenty= water will be better it has been very low so much so that we are almost out of every thing in the Mill in the way of flour feed meal &c. but if it continues we will run night and day untill we catch up again if the good Lord will. We are grinding mid today. Family well. Saturday, July 26 Weather very pleasant. We had a splendid rain yesterday and some again last night and today we have had a very fine rain again. The good Lord has remembered us in sending us the rain so jently and just what we so much needed and thanks to the good Lord for his Kindness. We ran all last night on two Burs and most of today on wheat. I am in hopes we will be able to have J.S. G. & Son order ready by the time he will order. All well. Sunday, July 27 Weather warm and no rain today.Every thing very much refreshed after the rain. We had a very pleasant Sunday School today. After school Bro. Kolb preached a very good sermon I thought the best I have hered for a very long time. After the sermon the Lord’s Supper was administered very good attendance boath at school and Church. I spent the balance of the day at home reading. Family all well. Monday, July 28 Weather cloudy and warm and thretening. I am in hopes we will have another good jentle rain like the last then I think will be able to catch up with our grinding. We are working on J.S. G. & Son flour now. I want to have it ready as they order the last of the month. I started at 12 last night and this morning good head water all day. Charlie went to town this afternoon. Business not very brisk. Family all well. Tuesday, July 29 Weather warm and looks like rain. I wish we would have another good jentle rain so the water would keep up. I am so anxious to get our orders filled. Jas. S. G. & Son sent in there order today. Did not have by 10 Bbls what they wanted but I am in hopes will be able to send bal. In a day or two. They ordered 40 Bbls. We have been running all day on wheat part of the time with two Burs. Family all well. Wednesday, July 30 Weather rather cloudy and rather thretening rain. I hope we will have more soon as the water is getting very low again. We ran all last night on a light head but don very well. I am in hopes will be able to send the bal. Of J.S.G. & Son flour tomorrow. I am very glad we have don so well if it had not been for the rain we would not have filled there order this month. We got out our potatos today and got ready for turnips. Thursday, July 31 Weather rather thretening and I am in hopes we will have more rain soon as the water is very low again and we are very busy not being able to fill our orders and out of almost everything in the mill. We finished Messers J.S.G. order today but have other orders to fill. I am in trouble again today the check of 252.21 given to pay protested Note also came back protested. It is very hard as I am not able to loose so much. Family all well. Friday, August 1 Weather quite warm. I met with a grate axident with the mill this morning. Charlie & I were fixing the Master Wheal it had been working too deep in gear and I took it too far and when we started it broke one of the cogs out of the Master Wheal so we had to take out segment with the broken cog and take it to Fred’k and have a new one cast get it Monday. I was very much worred about it. All well. Saturday, August 2 Weather warm and getting dry again but it has but it has suited me as I could not have run any how as the wheal is not fixed yet. I have been busy all day working on the wheat Burs and takeing in wheat but I had to stop one man from halling his. He cleaned his wheat too much filth in it. Wheat is off some. The best fultz is worth only about 1.00 per Bus. We are almost out of every thing in the mill. Family well. Sunday, August 3 Weather very warm today. We had one of the most pleasant school and Class we have had for a long time. We are still without a organist as Mrs. Crawford’s child is so sick she can not leave it. She is also away at home with it. We are afraid she will not raise it it has been sick so long. We are all very sorry as it is a very nice child. Sallie and the children are very much attached to it. We are all well. Monday, August 4 Weather warm with a good shower in the evening. I am in hopes that we will have more tonight as we want water so bad it has been very low. We have been very busy all day. Charlie went to town very early this morning for the casting. He got it and we soon put it in and went to work. We have been doing very well as we always have a good head on Mondays. We have also been very busy taking in wheat. Family all well. Tuesday, August 5 Weather very warm and a little gusty but it has not rained here yet. I wish it would as the water is getting low again. We have been running since we started yesterday have been taking in wheat all day. Mr. J.W. Montgomery finished halling. Mr. J. Dixon has been halling too. Wheat is off very much in Balto. Good fultz is only worth 1.03 ½ in Balto. I have been paying 1.00. We have been trying to fill our orders as fast as we can. All well. Wednesday, August 6 Weather warm and dry a little gusty this evening but no rain yet. Water is very low. We stoped for a little while then stoped for water to gather. I am in hopes we will have rain soon. We ran last night on meal and chop got enough ahead to fill two or three orders. I feal very uneasy because I can not do more. Sallie & Maud went to Fred’k on the Mail to attend the funereal of Mrs. Crawford’s child. I do not expect her home before tomorrow. All well. Thursday, August 7 Weather more pleasant after the rain we had quite a good rain last night it came very jentle and nice. We ran all night on corn but did not have a very good head. We have had a good head water all day have been running on wheat all day. I am in hopes we will have more rain along so we can catch up with our work. Ma came home this morning with Mr. and Mrs. Crawford. They berred there little Boy yesterday. Business tolerable good. All well. Friday, August 8 Weather rather pleasant after the rain. We had a nice rain last evening and it must have rained quite hard above us as the water has been well up and very mudy all day. We put in two Burs in last eve and have been running them all night and today one on wheat and the other on midlings. We filled 3 or 4 small orders one that has been wateing for some time. Weller sent another check today of 260.00. Family all well. Saturday, August 9 Weather cool and pleasant today. Water not so high but enough to run one Bur all day. We ran two all night one on wheat and one on poor mid. Business just tolerable good but plenty of it as the water has been so low that we got behind and have not caught up yet quite. We sent away 500” Meal. I sewed our Turnips this afternoon rather late [--] about the rite time. Family all well. I want to go to Camp tomorrow. Sunday, August 10 Weather cool and pleasant. I spent the day Charlie, Wilie & I at Washington Grove Camp. We got there time enough to hear the morning sermon and another sermon at three in the afternoon. McKendry Riley preached in the morning. We had two very good sermons also some good talk at the Children’s meeting at 2. We left there at 5 arrived home time enough to hear Bro. Kolb at night at home. Monday, August 11 Weather cool and pleasant. Cold enough last night to sleep under Blankets. We did not start the mill till about 5-30 water too low. Have been running since with a very good head running on wheat while the water is up. I am a fraid the water will give out if it dos not rain soon. Business not very brisk but it suits very well as we could not do any more then we are doing. We have about all we can do. Family all well thanks to the good Lord. Tuesday, August 12 Weather cool and pleasant. We ran till about 3 this morning water got too low and we had to stop. Have been running the most of today but on a very light head. Charlie & I have been working on the chopper all day sinking the furows. Business rather light no orders some trade at home. We are having the house painted L.W. Poole is doing the work. It needed it very much it will also improve in appearance very much. Wednesday, August 13 Weather cool and pleasant but getting very dry again. The water has got quite low again we cant half grind. Ran a little while then stoped for the water to get up again. We have some orders to fill but cannot. I am afraid the low water will [--] afect our little trade as we cannot fill orders promptly but are doing the very best we can. Wheat and flour off for the last few days. Business quiet today. Family all well. Thursday, August 14 Weather very warm and close all day. It is getting very dry again and water is very low. I find it very hard to fill orders. I am trying to fill them as best I can by part at a time. Mr. Thos. Crawford commenced to hall more corn today. I agreed somne time ago with Mr. Addison to take all of Mrs. Hendry’s corn but it is not all priced yet. Corn is on the rise worth 56 in Balto today. We have plenty of everything on hand if we only had water to grind it. All well. Friday, August 15 Weather pleasant and looks something like rain which is wanted very much as the water is so low we can scarcely do anything alltho it mite be worse. We manage to get along and do something. We sent three small lots off today and will try and send more tomorrow. We are taking in corn of Mrs. Hendry all day. I am afraid owing to low water we will have more corn then we can handle. Family all well thanks. Saturday, August 16 Weather quite pleasant after the rain of last evening. We had a very nice rain came just as we needed it. We have had quite a good head of water since the rain two Burs tonight and all day today. Thanks to the good Lord for the rain. We finished Fahey’s order of flour and another small order and got all the chop ground that was waiting. We are running one Bur on wheat and one on corn. The wheat and flour market is off in Balto. Family all well. Sunday, August 17 Weather cloudy and showery all day. I went to Sunday School but owing to the thretening weather there was but very few out so few that we did not holed any school. I was sorry we could not hold school as I was absent last Sunday away to Washingtoin Grove Camp. I spent the day at home reading and took a short nap. Tomie Crawford and his wife was with us all the afternoon. Mrs. Crawford plays well and sings. Family all well. Monday, August 18 Weather wet most of the forenoon but cleared off in the afternoon. We have had a glorous good rain just what I was wishing for a jentle good rain. How thankfull we should be for such a blessing. We are making good use of the water running two Burs all the time. We filled two orders today and I am in hopes we will be able now to fill all the orders that may come along. The wheat market is still off. Family all well. Tuesday, August 19 Weather quite pleasant after the rain. We are having plenty of water now and are making good use of it as we have been running two Burs every since the rain night and day running one on wheat and one on chop corn &c. We have been very busy all day today. There has been 4 or 5 teams halling wheat & corn that with the work about the mill has kept us very busy. Shipped some chop to Weller today. Family well. Wednesday, August 20 Weather warm and pleasant. Everything is looking very nice and green since the rain and the water has kept up very well till this evening. We are stoping now on account of the water being too low to grind but I think it is only temporary probably Shere has shut down causes it. I expect it up so we can run all night. I want to get some flour packed now. Messers J.S. G. & Son ordered 10 Bbls today looks about all we had packed . Taking in wheat most all day. All well. Thursday, August 21 Weather cool and pleasant. We have been grinding mid all day ran all night on wheat. We have not been so busy today. There has been some 2 or 3 teams with wheat and Rye some of it to be ground. I settled up with J,E. Dorsey today he finished halling his wheat and rye. No ordres today except one small order of 100” Meal. Business not very brisk today. I am in hopes [it] will be better when the water gets better. All well. Friday, August 22 Weather warm with a shower in the evening but we had very little here. The water is getting low again. I had a tolerable good head last night running on midlings. Business very quiet today no wheat or corn comeing in today as yet. I do not want any more for a while. We are pretty well filed up and water very low cannot run much off. The wheat and flour market is very quiet and dull. Family all well. Saturday, August 23 Weather quite warm and thretening rain in the afternoon had a little shower. Charlie went on a Picknick to Harper’s Ferry. Maggie went home to Hood’s Mill with Annie Spaulding to spend 1 or 2 weeks. Business has been rather slack today but we are busy grinding trying to get some flour ahead so as to be ready at the last of the month as our orders are always larger then then at other times. All well. Sunday, August 24 Weather close and warm and showery. I went up to Sunday School but owing to the rain and cloudy weather there was no one out except a few [at] preaching at eleven by Bro. Thos. Crawford but very few out. He preached a very good sermon. At night Mr. Silverwood of Balto lectured on Temperance and gave us a very fine discorse. The Race broke at the wast gate some time today and I had to fix it. Family all well. Monday, August 25 Weather cloudy and wet all day but did ot rain very hard. We have been grinding wheat all day and cleaning wheat. We have had a very good head of water all day. Business very dull today some little exchangeing and choping. We are trying to get some flour packed in Bbls now. We have a chance so we will be ready if any body orders. Family all well. Pig killed on R. Road. Tuesday, August 26 Weather cloudy and wet all the forenoon but cleared off in the after part of the day. We have had a glorous good rain just what we wanted thanks to the giver of all good things. We have been running night and day having a good head of water to grind with. Business is very dull this week so far no business of any account except a little at home. I am in hopes it will be better soon. The wheat and flour market is better. Family well. Wednesday, August 27 Weather quite pleasant after the rain something warmer then it has been. We still have a good head of water and are running night and day. We are getting up all the flour we can now so to be ready to fill orders that may come in. I walled up Thos. L. Crawford’s well for him today with Brick. We are fixing the Dam. Ben Onley is at work there. It has some small wholes in it. Business very dull. Family all well. Thursday, August 28 Weather quite pleasant after the rain splendid growing weather. We are having a good head water and we are running night and day. We are getting up with our work now but business has been very dull for some time past no orders on that account are coming in from below. I am in hopes they will be ordering soon the paying ones anyhow. N.J. Worthington commenced to deliver some wheat today. Charlie went to town. Family all well. Friday, August 29 Weather pleasant. We had quite a busy day. Mr. Worthington was halling wheat all day and J.S.G. & Son sent in there order for 45 Bbls flour we delivered it for 5.50 per Bbl. Freight from here to Elysville 13cts per 100” too much. I wrote again today for special rates. I may get it but I fear not. The wheat and flour market is rather strong. I do not think there will be any decline for the bal. of this year as the flour demand will be good. Saturday, August 30 Weather warm but pleasant good weather. We have been running on country work all day. Business rather dull. I went to town this afternoon rode up in the Buggy Mr. Shipley rode up with me. I wanted to get some little things. I have not been up for a Month or two. Business appears quiet there. The wheat market is rather quiet wheat 1.00 per Bus good fultz. Family all well. Sunday, August 31 Weather pleasant. We had a very pleasant school today. Mrs Crawford was with us for the first time since we got the Organ. We find it a good help in singing and good singing is the life of the school. Our lesson was a good one and I hope we all profited. No other meeting today so I spent the balance of the day reading my Religioud Herald. Family all well Maggie is at Hood’s Mill. Monday, September 1 Weather pleasant. I started about one this morning but as the water was held back in Mr. Sh----? Dam it soon ran down. I have had to stop about 4 since then we have had a good head water. We are filling an order for the Mt. St. Clement’s Ilchester College of 27 Bbls. We sent 12 off today will send more tomorrow. I am in hopes soon to get some flour ahead. All well. Tuesday, September 2 Weather thretening and rained a little. We had company at the house last night. The folowing names Messers Silverwood, Darling and Miss Webb the later is a very pretty performer in Piano, Messers Dixon Crawford of Urbana, Miss White of Burkittsville, Mrs. Thos. L. Crawford & sister. Gentlemen Mr. Dixon, Mr. Thos. L. Crawford and Mr. John Shipley, Wilber Dorsey of Balto. who is up on a visit in fact most of the Ladies are visiting in the Neighborhood. I ran the mill all night and am feeling very bad this evening. Maggie away yet. (Also F. Detrick, C. [--] and Miss Hattie last but not least) Wednesday, September 3 Weather cloudy and rained some in the forenoon but cleared off in the afternoon. We finished the Kennedy order today. Running on meal now as we were out. It keeps us all we can do to keep up with our grinding. Water at times is not strong so we can not do much then. I engaged 300 Bus wheat of Aden Anderson today at 1.00 per Bushel deliver it any time I have room for it. Business tolerable good. I am feeling quite unwell since yesterday. Thursday, Septmeber 4 Weather quite pleasant with a cool breeze. We ran all last night on corn and today on Rye for chop. We must get out flour as soon as we can as we have but very little ahead. Business very quiet some enquire for meal price &c. I am anxious to run some of it off as we have a large stock on hand. We may have to ship some of it in grane to Balto. I am feeling a little better today. Friday, September 5 Weather quite pleasant. Charlie started to Fred’k with some Ladies and Gentlemen this morning early to go on an excurtion to Pen-Mar.Have been running on midlings for a while then on wheat after the water got up. It was [so] low last night that we had to stop and I went to the house and went to bed. Business has been very dull all day today no orders of any kind. I am in hopes will be better soon. All well. Saturday, September 6 Weather warm but pleasant. We have been running on wheat all day and most all night but the water has been so low we could only do but very little. Water will be very low again soon if we do not have rain soon. The ground was so dry that it absorbed most of the rain that fell. Business has been very dull again today excepting some retail trade at home this was tolerable good. All well. Sunday, Setember 7 Weather quite pleasant till after dark it then clouded up and we had quite a gust of rain and wind. It did not last very long but long enough to prevent the Meeting that was to be held at the Church. We had an all day meeting in Capt. Saunder’s Grove and it was as large as a Camp meeting. We had a very pleasant meeting. We had no Sabbath School thought it best not to have it on account of the Woods Meeting all wanted to go there. All well. Monday, September 8 Weather quite pleasant after the shower last night. We started early this morning on wheat and have been running all day with a good head water. Some little trade today and an order of 5 Bbls family for tomorrow to Mt. Airy. I am in hopes the water will keep up so we can grind right along so we can get some flour, meal &c. ahead. We have been selling as fast as we could grind. Maggie is expected home this evening she has been at Hood’s Mill. Tuesday, September 9 Weather cool and pleasant. Last night was almost cold enough for frost.It is about the first fall weather we have had. Charlie ran all night on wheat my night tonight. He wants to go to a festival at Urbana Catholic Church. Business was very good today two or three small orders to fill. We was able to fill them all. Water has got down on us again. We run on mid when the water gets down. Aden Anderson is halling in his wheat today. Wednesday, September 10 Weather pleasant. Last night was almost cold enough for frost. I ran the mill all night. Charlie was away all evening. Water has been very low all day had to stop at times for the water to get up. We took the mid Bur up and we worked all day on it. Some wheat came in. I engeged it at 1.00 per Bus. The wheat market is up and excited and I think it is likely to keep up. Family all well. Thursday, September 11 Weather cool and dry cold enough for fire. We made fire in the Mill Office last night and have had fire all day. I am afraid we will have frost if the weather continues long this way. Water is quite low again. We had to take out the Burs to run up and clean some wheat. Mr. Geo. Beall halled something over a hundred bus I paid 1.02 for it very nice wheat. The wheat market is excited gon up I think. Wheat will keep up as it is in demand in Europe. Family all well. Friday, September 12 Weather not quite so cool today. We have been busy all day grinding over poor midlings, cleaning up &c. We also took up. We also took up the corn Bur washed and dressed it ready for corn. Will have to grind corn tonight to finish an order of 1000” for E.U. Owings which came today. Aside from that business was dull except for home work. Some grain came in to be ground or exchanged. It suits us better to exchange and we do so whenever we can. Wheat advanceing. All well. Saturday, September 13 Weather more pleasant today and last night not so cold it looks like rain this evening. We are in want of rain as the water is so low today that we scarcely could do anything. We managed to get the bal. of the 520 Meal ready and shipped, and then we have been trying to chop some. Business not very brisk today except home trade was tolerable good. Flour & wheat market strong flour advanced about 25cts per Bbl in Balto. all well Sunday, September 14 Weather cloudy and wet till after 9 O’clock. I went up to Sunday School but owing to the rain we had no school as only one or two came. It was given out that Bro. March our Baptist Minister would preach at night and there was a very full house but Bro. March did not come alltho a young man promised me he would be shure to go after him. The Congregation appeared to be disapointed. Bro. Thos. Crawford filled his place. All well. Monday, September 15 Weather quite pleasant after the rain we have had a good head water all day. I started between 12 and 1 last night. We are still behind with our grinding owing to low water. We took in Elias Baker’s wheat crop raised on his father’s place today about 500 Bus at 1.00 per Bus some rye in it but I hope not enough to hurt it. Business has been rather slack today. Flour has advanced 25cts per Bbl. Tuesday, September 16 Weather quite pleasant. Water held up all last night but got low for a while today and I had to stop for a while. Running on wheat but the water is too low to make much head way. I priced some wheat of Lee Waters at 1.02 per Bus. Wheat and flour market is very strong the last week or so. I am of the opinion wheat will go up higher yet. It is worth now in Baltimore 1.16 per Bus. Business very dull today. No orders from below except a small order. Family all well. Wednesday, September 17 Weather quite pleasant cool but we have no frost yet that I know of alltho it has been quite cold of nights. I am in hopes it will keep off for some time as our garden is just in good [--] order. I ran on wheat all last night but the water is very low today have to stop at times for the water to get up. Running on corn today. The wheat and flour market is higher and strong. Family all well. Thursday, September 18 Weather cool and pleasant. Water low but enough to run on midlings. The wheat and flour market is again higher today. Wheat in Balto 1.21 today a rise of about 12cts per Bus. Business very dull today no orders from below. I will have to go down and see what is the mater but as the water is low so far we have no trouble to sell all we can grind and we run night & day and do all we can. All well. Friday, September 19 Weather pleasant but a little thretening. I had to stop for a while last night owing to low water and most of today the water has got quite low again. We are grinding wheat 3 Bbls without Bolting to go to Ilchester Graham flour. We are grinding it on the mid Bur. I am afraid it is not fine enough. Water is so low I cant keep down [--] as I would like. Charlie went to town this eve. All well. Saturday, September 20 Weather pleasant and looks something like rain which we want quite bad at persent on account of low water. We have been quite busy some orders from below and trade tolerable good at home. We have been choping all day but water is low so we did not make much progress. The wheat and flour market still higher. Family all well. Sunday, September 21 Weather cool and rather raw and thretening but no rain.We had Sunday School but not very large attendance. We set the time for our festival & Consert two weeks from next Friday evening. We are having some opposition but I hope nothing serves to partically interfere with the arraingement as we need the funs to finish paying for the Organ & get some Books for the school. Family well. Monday, September 22 Weather not quite so cold but has the appearance of falling weather which I need on account of low water. We are running on wheat today as we have a very good head water always first of the week. The wheat market is still higher and unsettled. We have about 1000 Bus in the mill that is not priced yet. Business not very brisk today only one order of 500” feed. All well. Tuesday, September 23 Weather quite pleasant and dry. We have no rain yet and the water is very low have been standing idle. Charlie took Ma to town. She wants to get some things for the children. Some little business feed today, some I sent away and a ton to go tomorrow. The wheat market is very strong and higher in Balto today. I priced some 3 or 4 hundred Bus today at 1.09. Family well. Wednesday, September 24 Weather pleasant but cool. Water very low. We run night and day when there is enough water to turn the wheal. We often have to stop till the water gets up. Mr. Riggs the mill right helped us this evening to balance the two mid and corn Burs. They have not been running to suit me for some time. They do not altogether suit me but are better. The wheat and flour market is very much excited. All well. Thursday, September 25 Weather cool and pleasant. Some frost last night the first I have seen this season about here. It was very light did not do any damage. Water very low all day. Have been grinding midlings, cleaning up mill &c. So few orders from below feed and flour. We got special rates granted to Ilchester, Balto and Elysville will be quite an advantage. Wheat market not so excited today. All well. Friday, September 26 Weather cool and pleasant quite a frost last night the second one of the season about here. Water still quite low. We don but very little in that account. I am in hopes we will have some soon as we have but very little flour on hand. The wheat market more settled today. Yesterday it was Panickey rose as high as 31 or 32 but fell off today to 24 about the highest. Trade rather slack today. Family well. Saturday, September 27 Weather cool but pleasant a very heavy frost last night third we have had this season about here. Water still very low but we manage to run on light feed but we cannot make much head way. We are trying to get enough ahead to fill our orders the last of the Month. I am in hopes we will be able to do so. John Shipley & I went to Fred’k this evening. I wanted to get a few things. Sunday, September 28 Weather quite pleasant. We had quite a pleasant Sunday School today as the weather was good but not as many as there ought to have been out with the weather so good. After school Class met & I with the good Lord’s help attempted to leed as I was [--] assistant the Leeder was absent we had a very good meeting I thought and the Lord blessed us. Afternoon Shipley, Poole & I walked to Bussard’s woods to hear preaching but was disappointed as no preacher came. Evening visited Bro. T.W. Crawford Monday, September 29 Weather very pleasant but very dry. We have a good head of water as it is the first of the week but if it dos not rain it will soon run down. J.S.G. & Son sent in there order for 40 Bbls flour we are 18 short & are trying to get them ready for tomorrow. I do hope the water will keep up so we can do so. The wheat and flour market is up. Wheat 1.20 to 1.30 flour 6 to 7 dollars per Bbl. Corn is also keeping up 60 to 62 in Balto. Family all well. Tuesday, September 30 Weather quite pleasant after the frost but it is very dry and the water is very low so much so we can scarcely do anything today. We don pretty well yesterday and last night [--] today. We are short 9 Bbls yet to filling J.S.G. & Son order. I am very sorry of it as I want to send our Bill of the last three Months. We may posible get the ordered filled in the next few days. I do hope that the good Lord will send us some rain. Business dull today. All well. Wednesday, October 1 Weather dry and warm. We find it very difficult to get the balance of the order filled. We have been running all day and only made about one or two Bbls flour. We have 2 Bbls more to finish the order. I was in hopes we can get the number finished so we can get the order by noon tomorrow. Mr. John Shipley & I went to town this afternoon & broke down just in town. We had quite a [--] but did not do very much harm. Thursday, October 2 Weather quite warm and pleasant but very dry and water still very low too low. We scarcely grind 3 Bbls flour a day. We finished J.S.G. & Son’s order and sent it in Bill. We had 3 orders come in from below for 38 Bbls family and 8$ work chop Rye. We are out of flour meal and most everything and very little water to do with. Charlie went to see Shearer. I expect we will have to get 25 Bbls of him to help out till it rains. All well. Friday, October 3 Weather pleasant and still dry but I think it has some appearance of rain. Water still low but we manage to do some work. Have been choping most all day wheat for Graham flour to go to Ilchester to fill an order. It dos not take quite as much water for that kind of work so it comes in very well. Trade is good if we only had the power to do wheat we want somehow of some kind. Family all well. Saturday, October 4 Weather continues dry and warm but I have had quite a good head of water to do right work if we have rain now in a few days I will be all right and be able to fill my orders but if it dos not rain I will be very bad off. Business not very brisk today. Would have been so tho if I could have filled all the orders. We have been choping most all day. J.S.G. & Son sent in the check today. Charlie took it to the Bank. All well. Sunday, October 5 Weather dry and warm. We had quite an interesting Sunday School today. I withdrew the Committee on Festival & Consert as there has been some opposition to it and we cannot get the Publick School House as the same partes I presume was the ones that caused us from not getting it. I expect I will have to pay the bal. on it which is 20 dollars----Church after school not a very large congregation. Family all well. Monday, October 6 Weather dry and warm. The water did not get up till about 9 this morning and it will not last long without we have rain. It is getting so we cannot fill all of our orders. I hope we will not loose any of our old customers, The wheat and flour market is still higher today wheat 1.35 to 1.40 in Balto. 6.50 for flour. We have plenty of wheat on hand. If the prices keep up we will do well. Family all well thanks to the good Lord. Tuesday, October 7 Weather foggy all the morning I thought it looked something like rain but it cleared off but I do hope we will have rain soon if it is the good Lord’s will. We filled some orders today. We have all the water will let us do in the way of trade. The wheat market still higher 1.41 in Balto. Flour up corespondingly and the impression is it will go higher. We have a good lot of wheat on hand. Family all well. Wednesday, October 8 Weather pleasant and has the appearance of rain but still very dry. We are having quite a good head this evening but I do not expect it will last long. It will soon give out without rain. We filled two small orders to go below. Wheat and flour market very strong. Wheat worth here about 1.25 the best flour about 6.75 per Bbl. Family all well thanks. Thursday, October 9 Weather dry and warm no sign of rain today water very good this afternoon. Trade rather dull today but we have not filled all of our orders yet. We wach the water and run when ever there is enough to run with . The wheat and flour market is not so strong yesterday and today. Wheat off 3 cts per Bus. I look for a quiet market now for a while. Family all well thanks to the good Lord. Friday, October 10 Weather warm with a good rain in the afternoon. We had a very good shower last night. It helped some all right but got very low till the rain this afternoon. We are running now on two Burs. 2 or 3 orders more came in. I am in hopes now we can fill them if the water can keep up. The wheat and flour market is not quite so strong as it was. Family all well. Saturday, October 11 Weather pleasant today after the rain but it is still thretening. We have had a splendid rain just what we wanted. We ran all night on two burs most of the time and made good head way on flour. We partley filled two orders that came in yesterday. I am hopes now to fill all orders that may come in. Many Thanks to the good Lord for His Kindness. Wheat and flour market still strong. All well. Sunday, October 12 Weather pleasant. We had a very good Sunday School and Class in the morning. At night prayer meeting first of the season and it was very well attended and a good feeling we [--] want to keep up if the good Lord is willing and will help us because we fail without his help we can do nothing. We expect Bro March to be with us tomorrow evening and to preach three evenings for us. I hope we will have a good….. Monday, October 13 Weather pleasant very fine growing weather for wheat. We have been busy all day weighing wheat of Elias Baker at 1.25 per Bus. The wheat market is up again in Balto. Business not very brisk today. We sent off 3 Bbls to fill bal. of order to L.E. Grove Ridgeville. We have been running up wheat & cleaning all day. Have had a good head since about 11 O’clock. Family well. Bro. March came this eve to preach for us. Tuesday, October 14 Weather quite pleasant. The rains we have had dos not keep the stream up as in a day or so it soon runs down. We had to wate 3 or 4 Hours this morning for the water to get up since then we have been making very good head way in flour. I want to get the bal. of Kenney’s order up as soon as posible. Business not very brisk today but as much as we can do. Bro. March preached for us last night. Very good House. Family all well. Wednesday, October 15 Weather very warm all day. I & Willie went to the Fare today left Charlie in the mill. Willie and I had a very pleasant time. He was very much pleasand with what he saw and enjoyed a ride on the Poneys. I think the fare if anything is better then last year. It was well attended but not crowded tomorrow is the [--] jineraly. Charlie will want to go then. Business very good. Family all well. Thursday, October 16 Weather continues dry and warm. I am having a very good head water since about 11 O’clock. I also ran untill midnight last night but we are still behind filling our orders but send it off as fast as we can grind it. I sent off 3 Bbls today all we had ready. Charlie went to the fare today I hope that he will enjoy him self. The wheat and flour market still going up. Flour 7 dollars a Bbl now. Wheat about 1.40. Family all well. Friday, October 17 Weather pleasant not quite so warm as it was the last rwo days more wind. All the family except my self and Willie went to Fred’k they intended to have went to the fare but the trane did not give time and they returned without going. Sallie went up to take Maud to see the Dr. about her eyes. She is having quite a time with her eyes. Sister Eliza came up to see us yesterday to stay a while with us. Wheat still excited and higher. Saturday, October 18 Weather thretening and some rain in the morning. We are in need of rain at present boath farmers and Millers. Our water is still low but not as low as one mite suppose after so long a drout. We have had a very good head since about 11 O’clock this morning and have enough water now to run two Burs. The wheat and flour market is still on the rise. Trade very good. Family all well. Sunday, October 19 Weather cool and pleasant with prospects of frost tonight. We had quite a good Sunday School today all the Teachers were persent and most of the children. Preaching in the evening by Bro Thos. Crawford not a very large attendance. We had very good singing as Mrs Crawford played for us on the Organ. I spent the day at home. Sister Eliza is with us. She and the family are all well. Monday, October 20 Weather cool and pleasant. Water very low did not get to doing anything untill about 10 or 11 O’clock but when it did come we had enough to put in two Burs one on wheat and one on midlings. The wheat market was off Saturday and also today about 10cts per Bus. It is very hard to tell how the market will rate. I do not think that it will go much lower then it is. I think it will go up again. All well. Tuesday, October 21 Weather thretening and commenced raining early in the afternoon rather a cold rain just what is wanted for us all. The water has been very low all the forenoon. I am in hopes we wil have aplenty of water so we can get our orders filled. Business was bery dull today but as we have nothing on hand dos not mater much. The wheat market is better today going up again. I put up the House Stove today. Family all well. Wednesday, October 22 Weather cloudy and wet most of the day but dos not rain fast enough to cause a rise in the stream except a light head. Now we have a good head enough to run with two Burs. We are also running up and cleaning wheat. Business rather dull today but as we are out of flour it dos not mater much. The wheat market is on a rise again. It was off 10 to 15cts later part of last week but has recovered partley again. Family all well. Sister Eliza is with us yet. Thursday, October 23 Weather rather thretening but no rain today. We had a good head water last night till about 2 O’clock and since noon today the water good enough to run with two Burs. Business light today. I filled a small order for C.W. Harvey. We are running on wheat now and getting some flour ahead to fill orders with. The wheat market is off some few cents today. Family all well. Friday, October 24 Weather cool and windy fall weather. Water low as usual all the forenoon but rather good all the afternoon. Some trade today and some wheat and corn came in. I am shiping two car loads of corn to Balto as the water is low and not much demand for meal. The wheat and flour market more quiet and off some but the impresion is that it will keep up on account of the forign demand. Family all well. Saturday, October 25 Weather quite cool. We had ice last night and a very heavy frost the coldest spell we have had. Water has been very low all day and we have don but very lirttle grinding all day. We had an order for 1 ton feed and sent it off. Business tolerable good but we cannot get ahead with the grinding on account of low water. I am in hopes we will have rain soon. I sent off a car load corn today. The meal trade has been rather dull this season. Family well. Sunday, October 26 Weather cool but pleasant. We had a very good Sabbath School today all the teachers present and the children pretty well all out also Mrs. Crawford our Organist so we had good singing. After school Class met Bro Jas. Crawford lead alltho our leeder was present Bro Aden Anderson and Bro Rinehart was with us. In the afternoon Thos. L. Crawford, Willie & I took a walk then at night we were out to prayer meeting. Sister Eliza was with us. Monday, October 27 Weather thretening but no rain. It has looked like snow some all day. We have had for the last three nights three very heavy frosts with some ice so I am in hopes we will have some rain if the good Lord is willing. I need it very much to get my orders filled. The wheat market is off some 8 or 10 cts and the flour market is not so strong. All well. Tuesday, October 28 Weather very unsettled all day at times it looked very much like rain and did rain some little but has cleared off and got cold and windy. I hope we will have rain soon on account of the water being so low but notwithstanding the long drought we can do more or less grinding every day. We have been running two Burs since about noon and probably will keep up till midnight. We sent 10 Bbls flour to Ilchester today. We are now working on J.S.G. order or rather we expect to get last of the month. All well. Wednesday, October 29 Weather cool and pleasant but dry but the water is very good since about 11 O’clock. I ran most of last night we always run about half of the night. We are doing all we can on wheat to get some flour ahead. J.S.G. & Son orderd 10 Bbls family today. I am in hopes they will order more. They have been getting 40 to 50 Bbls a month heretofore. I hope they will order more yet. The wheat and flour market is very much [--] for the last few days. All well. Thursday, October 30 Weather cool and windy all day. Business not very brisk today water low and times appears very dull. Willie & I rode in the Buggy to town the grate purade was there today of firemen. I had some business there and took Willie with me to see the parade. He enjoyed it very much but the ride was a cold one. We have more old corn on hand then we are about holding so I went up to see if I could not sell some but could not. Family all well. Friday, October 31 Weather cool and windy and water very low today. Running on midlings today. We did not get much of an order of J.S.G. & Son this month only 10 Bbls but I am in hopes we will be able to sell them more yet. I do not know if the cause flour and wheat has been on the decline for the last few days. He may be wateing for it to strike bottom. We are getting ready to ship some corn to Balto as I think can do better there then Fred’k. Family all well. Maud came home from Fred’k today. Saturday, November 1 Weather cool and dry and water very low. I do hope that we will have rain soon as we are so much behind with our work. We are doing all we posible can with what water we have. We sent 245 Bus corn to Balto today cannot grind it and I have got to settle for it and want the money. Home trade tolerable good but no orders from below. The wheat & flour market something better today. Charlie went to town this eve. All well. Sunday, November 2 Weather cool but pleasant but still very dry. A good steady rain would be very aceptable at present as the water is very low. We had a very good Sunday School today all the Teachers was out and most of the children. After school 11 O’clock had preaching by Rev. Mr. Kolb very good sermon, at night prayer and Conference meeting led by Bro.[--] not very many out but a very good meeting. Monday, November 3 Weather continues cool and windy and dry we had a shower last night. The water was very low all the forenoon but since about one or two O’clock we have had a good head. Grinding and cleaning wheat now so we can use all the water we can while it is running, It will not last long if it dos not rain. The wheat and flour market higher today. Our business not very brisk today. Family all well. Tuesday, November 4 Weather quite cool and windy and still very dry and no signs of rain yet. It has been one of the dryest years I think I ever witnessed. We are doing but very little grinding on account of low water and I am afraid it will freeze up before it rains. We have an order today for 25 to 30 Bbls flour. We are finding Sail for all we can grind but we did not get but 10 Bbls to fill for J.S. Gary & Son last month. Today is election day for Governer Messers J.A. Gary and Hamilton are the Candidates. All well. Wednesday, November 5 Weather cold all day froze quite hard last night. The road was covered over with ice this morning and I believe it has been freezeing in the shade all day. Water still low all the forenoon but a good head this afternoon. Business not very brisk today but it dos not mater to us the water so low we can not do very much. There has been quite a drop in wheat today of about 10cts per Bus 1.30 in Balto. Family all well thanks to the good Lord. Thursday, November 6 Weather thretening after the little snow squal last night. We had enough to make the ground white but did not last long. It is raining a little and has the appearance of a settled rain. I do hope we may so we can get some flour ground ahead and fill the bal. of our orders. Bus. [--] slack today except home trade. Water still low in the forenoon but a very good head in tha afternoon. Grain market dull. Family all well. Friday, November 7 Weather cool and dry after the little rain we had last evening. Water low all the forenoon as usual but tolerable good head the afternoon & evening. It keeps up till about 2 O’clock at night. Business rather dull but all we can do owing to the water. The wheat and flour market not too strong owing to the Elections being full. I think prices will advance next month. We have all the wheat we want at present. Family all well. Saturday, November 8 Weather rather thretening but it is hard to tell weather we will have rain it has been dry so long. The water is holding out well not withstanding the long dry season. We have a good head now and do most every afternoon lasting til midnight. We had some trade today to go away and also at home mostly exchangeing. We have all we can do in the way of grinding. Wheat and flour market rather off. Family all well. Sunday, November 9 Weather very pleasant rather warm enough so to do without fire. The Quarterly Meeting was held at our Church yesterday and today it interfered with the morning Sunday School but we had it in the afternoon. We had a very good meeting in the morning. The Rev. Mr. Kuntz preached for us also meeting at night. Bro Jas. Crawford perached for us had quite a good meeting good attendance and good singing by the choir with the Organ. Family all well. Monday, November 10 Weather warm and dry. Water very low all the forenoon but a very good head in the afternoon. We sent off 10 Bbls flour to Ilchester. Will try & fill by tomorrow the order of 25 Bbls & 4 of unbolted. Business is not very brisk but dos very well while the water is so low. Ma, Ella & Maud went to town today. Maud’s eye is bad again she has a grate deal of trouble with her eye. They returned on the Male. All well. Tuesday, November 11 Weather dry and pleasant. We had a very good head water since noon but very light all the forenoon. We finished and sent off Rev. Geo. Ruland(?) order of 25 Bbls family and 4 unbolted & rec’d another order to go to Ellicott City as soon as posible to Mr. Tabler. Will try and send as much of it as we can tomorrow. I am in hopes we will have rain soon then we can get ahead with the grinding. The wheat and flour market more steady. Family all well. Wednesday, November 12 Weather quite warm almost like summer weather and it is getting very dry. The Springs are drying up and the streams are very low and it appears to be a general thing through out the country. From accounts most of the water mills have to run on half time. We do about that. We sent part of Mr. Tabler’s order today will send bal. as soon as we can. I went to Freder’k this afternoon and had two teath puled. My teath are most all gon. Family well. Thursday, November 13 Weather quite pleasant and still dry. Water low all the forenoon as usual. I am in hopes if the good Lord will that we have rain soon. Springs are drying up.We are grinding Buckwheat today. The wheat and flour market is very dull wheat 1.35 in Balto. At one time about a Month ago it was as high as 1.60 or 65. Trade today is very slack but dos very well as the water is too low to do much. Family all well. Friday, November 14 Weather thretening all the forenoon but cleared off in the afterpart of the day so we may not have any rain for some time yet. Water has been very low all day today. Running on Buckwheat all day when we could run. Business rather slack today no orders from below. The flour market rather stronger today. We are retailing at 7.00 per Bbl loose or 7.30 with Bbl. Family well. Saturday, November 15 Weather thretening all the morning and raining some now in the evening. It is very much needed alltho notwithstanding the long long dry year past. We have enough water to run on half time. I think the stream keeps up remarkable well. Trade tolerablwe good at home but no orders from below. Running on wheat all day. Charlie went to town with Elias Baker this eve. All well. Sunday, November 16 Weather very pleasant we had our Sunday School today at 9:30. We had quite an interesting school today. All the teachers were out also the Organist. Had also some very good singing. Evening Bro. Thos. Crawford preached for us there was not a large turnout but good attendance.(sic) I spent while not at Church at home reading. Family all well. Monday, November 17 Weather quite pleasant and still very dry. Water very low all the forenoon but a good head all the afternoon and probably will have a good head till midnight. All well. Tuesday, November 18 Weather wet all last night but did not rain very much but don some good I think. The water is better on account of it. It is now blowing off and getting cold. The wheat and flour market quiet. All well. Wednesday, November 19 Weather rather thretening but looks more like snow then rain. Water very low all the morning but a good head this afternoon. I am in hopes we will have rain before it freezes up as that mite make the water still low all winter. Business rather light all day. We had a small order of C.W. Harvey for some fed and meal. We are trying to get some flour ahead but are very much behind with our grinding owing to our low water all summer and fall. Family well. Thursday, November 20 Weather quite wintery all day snow and wind ground this time is nearly covered the first winter day we have had. Business rather dull today but as water is so low and we are behind in grinding it dos not mater much but I am in hopes we will have rain soon as we need it so much. The wheat and flour market is steady wheat worth here about 1.30 per Bus. flour $7 per Bbl. Running on wheat. Family all well. Friday, November 21 Weather quite wintery all day yesterday last night and today but has the appearance of moderateing this evening. The Race has been covered with ice all day and water very low could not do much last night and all the forenoon. Business rather slack except exchangeing that has been tolerable brisk today. We are running on corn all day or when we can grind. The wheat and flour market quiet but rather strong in tone. Family all well. Saturday, November 22 Weather cold and wintery but not quite so windy as yesterday but it has been freezeing all day. The water is very low and we could not do anything all the forenoon but have been running on corn all the afternoon. We have been very busy all day with home trade and a ton feed for Mrs Waters Hood’s Mill. The wheat and flour market is on the rise again. We took in some more Buckwheat and white corn today. Bwheat 65cts per Bus. corn about 48. Family all well. Sunday, November 23 Weather dry and cool and very dry last night and froze quite hard. We are having rather wintery weather for the last few days. We had a very pleasant Sunday School this morning at 9:30. All the Teachers were present and a good number of the children. After the school Class met 8 or 9 present. We had a very good and I think a profitable meeting. I believe the good Lord was with us. Family all well. Monday, November 24 Today is my birth day I am 51 today. Weather continues cold and dry and water very low. We started up about noon. I am in hopes will have rain soon we need it so much. We are very much behind with our grinding we can scarcely run on half time. Business very dull today no orders some little trade at home. Running on wheat. Wheat and flour market very strong upward tendancy. Family pretty well thanks. Tuesday, November 25 Weather cold and dry and no signs of rain yet. Water very low all the forenoon but a very good head this afternoon. We are running on midlings and cleaning wheat but will turn on wheat as we have but very little flour ahead and may have some orders soon. Business very dull today no orders from below and very little trade at home. The flour & Wheat market is strong. Family all well. Wednesday, November 26 Weather pleasant and cool and still very dry still we have enough water to run on about half time. Business not very brisk but as the water is low and can not do very much it maters but little. We will have rain after a while in the good Lord’s time. We have it a good deal better then we deserve. I hope He will give us grace and patience to wate his good pleasure. Family all well. Thursday, November 27 Today is thanks given day appointed boath by our President and our Governor of the State. It has been a very pleasant day boath over head and under foot as we have had no rain for so long the walking is very good. I hope we all feal very thankfull to our Good Lord for a prosprus and good year of full and plenty for a continuance of the same. Ella had some company from Burkittsville. Friday, November 28 Weather thretening and unsettled all day. Now about 4 O’clock it has the appearance of rain. I do hope we wont have a flood. We may as it has been dry so long. I hope we may have a good rain to raise the water and keep it up so we can get up with our grinding. Trade not very brisk today. We had an order for 500” Meal but have none on hand I hope we will soon. Family all well. Saturday, November 29 Weather clear after the rain last night. It commenced in the afternoon and continued up to about 9 with a shower late at night. Today is quite cool and windy and weather not settled. We need more rain to keep up the streams alltho what we have had helps considerable for a day or so. Business tolerable good. Order for 15 Bbl family of J.S.G & Son Elysville to be sent Monday. Water being flush we are running with two Burs. Family all well. Sunday, November 30 Weather cool clear and dry. We had a very pleasant Sunday School today after which Bro. Kolb preached and a very fine sermon too I thought the best I most ever hered him preach but a very small congregation. I do not know why it is the people do not come out more then they do. His sermons is always good. Our friend & Bro. Jas. H. Crawford is very sick. Intended to have went to see him but did not feal very well. Monday, December 1 Weather continues very dry and cool. We filled the two or three orders today 15 Bbls flour to J.S.G. & Son 500” Meal to Owings. A good head water since noon but most of it is running away from us. The Mill above us has two wheals. I went to see Bro. Jas. H. Crawford this afternoon. He is very low indeed. I may never see him again alive. I agreed to set up with him tonight. I hope the good Lord will comfort and sustain him in his extrimity. Tuesday, December 2 Weather very pleasant. Bro. Rev. J.H. Crawford died this morning at 2:10 O’clock. I stayed up with him and helped to lay him out. He died very easy. He is to be berried tomorrow from Urbana M.E. Church in the afternoon. I want to attend I was appointed one of the Pall bearers. In the loss of Rev. Jas. H. Crawford we have lost a good Christian man and a leader of his Church in this community. Business rather dull today. Family all well. Wednesday, December 3 Weather very pleasant warm like spring. Bro. Jas. H. Crawford was berried this afternoon at Urbana M.E. Chruch the Rev. Mr. Burman and Rev. Kolb Officiated. A grate many people were out. The sermon of Rev. Burman and the remarks of Bro. Kiolb was very appropriate and very good and I hope will do a grate deal of good. I feal that I as well as the whole community has lost a good man and friend and his loss will be felt by us all. May the Lord help us. Thursday, December 4 Weather quite pleasant. It clouded up last eve and looked very much like rain but cleared off without any of any account. We have been running on corn all day as we were out of Meal and we don well as quite a number were after Meal today. Water still short we ran about on half time but not with a full head all the week. Monday is always the best, Business very quiet and I find it very hard to collect standing accounts. Family all well. Friday, December 5 Weather thretening all day. I think it is likely that we will have rain soon. The water is still low about half of the time. We are grinding Buckwheat today and cleaning some wheat. We rec’d an order of J.S.G. & Son of 10 Bbls family. I delivered it at 7.20. Wheat is worth about 1.40 here today something higher then it was a few weeks ago.I am fealing quite unwell today I have taken a cold. The rest of the family well. Saturday, December 6 The thretening weather we have had for the last few days has brought a nice rain. It is raining at this time and from appearances we may have considerable. It is very much needed before it freezes up because then it mite cause low water all winter. We have been making arraingements to kill our Hogs Tuesday next but if it is very wet weather we may [--] it off. Business very dull today. Family all well thanks. Sunday, December 7 Weather very pleasant after the rain. We had a very pleasant Sunday School today. After school Class met led by Bro. Aden Anderson tolerable good turn out boath at school and Class. We did not have our dear Bro J.H. Crawford with us as four weeks ago when he was with us and led and I thought I never hered him speak better. But a lass he has gon to his reward and I hope we may all be so hapy to join him one day. Monday, December 8 Weather quite pleasant after the rain of Saturday good growing weather for wheat. We started this morning about one as we had a good head of water have been running on wheat all day. We are getting to kill Hogs tomorrow. We have everything ready I believe and the men all engaged to help. I will be glad when it is all through with. The wheat and flour market still strong and upward tendancy. Family all tolerable well. Tuesday, December 9 Weather quite pleasant all day excepting late in the afternoon it clouded up and has the appearance of rain or snow. We Killed our Hogs today we had 9 very good ones. I [--] there weights on one of the back [--]. We started quite early and had them all killed and on the gallas by 8:30 A.M. We had aplenty to help us and got through in good season. Will cut them up tomorrow. We have an order for 25 Bbls flour today to go to Ilchester. Family all well. Wednesday, December 10 Weather cloudy and misting most all day rather hard on our meat which is cut up but not salted down yet. I had it put up in the Meat House. This season we will salt it down there. They are all very busy making Lard sosage Pudings &c. today. Water was low all the forenoon in fact since 12 O’clock last night. We have a good head now. Business not very brisk today some work came in to grind. We are finishing up the 25 bbl order for Ilchester to go away tomorrow. All well. Thursday, December 11 Weather wet all day but the water was quite low all the forenoon since then water is up pretty well. We have been running on Mid and Hominy. Mr John Shipley salted down our meat for us today. The weather has bee rather bad on the meat. We filled Kennedy & Co order of 25 Bbls flour today at 7.50 delivered. The wheat and flour market is higher. Wheat is worth almost 1.50 today. All well. Friday, December 12 Weather cool today the wind has got around to the North West but not so cold to make it very unpleasant. We are having a good head water today and we are running two burs in order to use all the water we can and to get along with the work as much as posible. Business not very brisk today except home trade. The wheat and flour market is quite strong. We are finishing up our Hog Kiling today. All well. Saturday, December 13 Weather cool but pleasant. It froze last night and did not thaw very much today. Water was low this morning but since we have had a good head of water and are running two burs one on wheat & one on corn. We filled an order of Saml. E. Grove for 5 Bbls family at 7.37 per Bbl. He pay freight. The wheat and flour market still rather strong but not quite so strong as Thursday last. We are about all through with Hog Killing. Family all well. Sunday, December 14 Weather quite wintery all day. It rained through the night and froze so the trees and everything was covered with ice and gave a wintery appearance to everything this morning. It rained most of the day so we had no Sunday School or Church today. There was to have been preaching this evening but owing to bad weather there was none. I spent the day in the home reading &c. All well. Monday, December 15 Weather cool clear and pleasant After the rain and ice of yesterday. I started at midnight and have been running all night with a full head water. We may have a chance now to get ahead if the water keeps up. We are on wheat all day. Business not very brisk today. The wheat and flour market not so strong but not [--] lower. I do not fear but the wheat market will keep up. All well. Tuesday, December 16 Weather cool and pleasant. We had enough water to run all last night but got down quite low this morning so we had to stop for a little while. We have had a good head all day and have been trying to use all of it we could by cleaning wheat and running one Bur. Business not very brisk today but we are doing all we can to be ready to fill orders when they come in .Some home trade. The wheat market not so strong. Family all well. Wednesday, December 17 Weather quite pleasant. Froze a little last night but thawed today. The weather is very good for the season. We are still running night and day while the water keeps up. It dos not keep up all day and night but we run about two thirds of the time, Business is not very brisk today some home trade however. Charlie went to No. 4 this afternoon to try and collect some small Bills that has been standing for a long time all well. Thursday, December 18 Weather clear and quite cool all day. We are still running as long as the water keeps up about two thirds of the time running on wheat. Business is not very brisk but we have trade for all we are able to grind at present and are still behind with the grinding. Charlie went out collecting today but returned without collecting anything. I find it very hard to collect and have comnsiderable out and a good deal of it in small amts. All well. Friday, Decemeber 19 Weather cool but pleasant. There was some little snow fell last night but the sun soon made it disappear. We are running on midlings and Hominy today. Business not very brisk except one ton feed to Mrs. Waters. Charlie went to Balto today to spend his holiday. I will miss him in the mill very much. I am keeping Willie till he returns. The wheat market more furm today. Family all well. Saturday, December 20 Weather rather thretening all day but did not rain. Some more rain is needed to keep up the water. I have been quite busy this aftrenoon attending to costom work and miss Charlie very much. I have Charlie with me part of the time he helps me some. I do not expect Charlie home for a week or 10 days. No ordres today. I am getting all the flour ahead I can while I have time and the water is good all well. Sunday, December 21 Weather rather thretening but fare enough in the forenoon to bring out the goers to Sunday School and we had quite a good school but noit a fine attendance. After school Class met but not very many out alltho we had a very good meeting and I believe the good Lord blessed us. O’ how much we need his help when left to ourselves we are nothing. I do want to be his with all my hart and to be usefull while he lets me live. All well. Monday, December 22 Weather quite wintery all day. It commenced snowing in the night it is not deep but the ground is covered with a slete and snow together has been misting all day. Water did not get up till late this morning since then have been running on wheat after crushing a little bit on corn. I had an order of 5 Bbl family to go to Ridgeville and some trade at home. Being alone I have been kept quite busy Willie has been helping me. All well. Tuesday, December 23 Weather quite dull cloudy damp and ground partley covered with snow and ice. The Mare lost her colt last night it was about grown. I do not know the cause. I put the colt about 6 months old in with her to keep it out of the rain and it may be that that caused it. She appears well I hope she will not die. I do not mind so much the loss of the colt so she dos not be any the worse for it. I have been quite busy. Family all well. Wednesday, December 24 Weather cloudy most of the time but warm and pleasant. About all the snow that was on the ground is all gon caused a good head water all day and also last night. I have been quite busy all day. Willie helped me all he could. Have been takeing in corn for Hominy two or three lots have about enough now for a while. No orders today but home trade has been tolerable good. All well. Thursday, December 25 Weather cloudy and thretening but no rain all day. I spent my Christmas in the Mill. I am very busy and I thought I had better run the mill as I have a good head water. Ella went to Hood’s Mill to spend her Christmas and Charlie to Balto so our family are small. It has been quite lively about Ijamsville principally with the colored folks most of them get tite. All well. Friday, Decmeber 26 Weather clear and cold. Wind got off to the N.W. last eve and got quite cold some little snow froze some too. I have been quite busy all day grinding & crushing corn. The wates came off while at work but did not do any harm but I had to stop and go on wheat will have to bal. the Bur over again. Business very slack today no orders and but a very little home trade. Family all well those of us that is at home. Saturday, December 27 Weather quite frosty all day. It commenced last eve and got so cold I had to shut down owing to slush ice. Running it got so bad it shut the water off from the wheal had a good head too. I did not start till after breakfast since then most of the time we ran two burs one on wheat and one on corn. Willie has been helping me since Charlie went away. Business has been very slack all day no orders and but very little trade at home. Family well. Sunday, December 28 Weather cool but pleasant. Very late getting out to Sunday School but we had quite a good school. After the close of the school Bro. Kolb preached. I did not go away from home after except all of us spent the evening at Mr. T.L. Crawford’s. They have a new Organ a Smith make and a good one. Charlie came home last evening. He had quite a long visit. He went to Washington while he was away. Ella is away yet at Hood’s Mill. Family all well. Monday, December 29 Weather rather soft has been thawing all day a little over cast and feals a little like rain. We have a good head water today. Running on wheat. We have a quite a good lot flour on hand will have to turn on midlings as soon as we can spare them and grind up what Rye we have on hand and ship it to Balto. with what low grade flour we may have as we have very little sale for low grade at home. The wheat and flour market is very low. All well. Tuesday, December 30 Weather quite pleasant almost like a Spring day. We are having a very good head water now but not enough to run all of the 24 Hours. We are running two Burs now. Want to get the bal. of the corn chop ground to ship to Granite. Business has been very dull today no orders and but very little doing at home. I am afraid our trade will fall off. I do hope not as we need what little we have to keep things going. The wheat and flour market is very dull. Family all well. Wednesday, December 31 Weather cold and damp slete forms causing the walking bad. Ma Maggie & Maud went to Balto this afternoon on a visit for a few days. I did not want them to go as it is so lonely without them but they should go as they have not been to Balto since they came to Ijamsville now over 4 years. I hope they may arive safe and have a pleasant time. We rec’d an order of J.S.G. & Son for 28 Bbls flour today. Aside from that business has been rahter dull. Well as this is the last day of the old year and about to start on another year it is with grate gratitude and thanks given to our good Heavenly Father first that He has kept us so safely through the year that is just pased and has blessed us with health and spared our lives and my prayer is that He will keep us all through this another year as He has in this year that has pased.
