"Sam" Douglas, died Friday, September 28, 2001 at her residence. Funeral service for Mrs. Douglas will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at 2:00 o'clock in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will be in Summerville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday afternoon, from 1:00 o'clock until the hour of service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Mrs. Douglas was born on February 9, 1927 in Holly Hill, a daughter of the late John Henry Ard and Mary Pack Ard. Mrs. Douglas graduated from Kingstree High School. She worked as a cook at Gregg Middle School and retired from Knightsville Elementary School. She was a member of Knightsville United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Jane D. Carroll of Lexington Park, MD; a son, John W. Douglas of St. Inigoes, MD; 3 brothers, Emmett G. Ard of Greeleyville, SC, Richard L. Ard of Olanta, SC, John H. Ard, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; 2 sisters, Virginia Goodman of Chattanooga, TN, JoAnn King of Bishopville, SC; 5 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren, 5 step great-great-great-grandchildren.
