I, Dorothy Howard, of St Mary's County & State of Maryland, being in feeble health but of Sound & disposing mind, memory, & understanding, considering the certainty of death & the uncertainty of the time thereof, & being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, before it shall please Almighty God to call me hence, do therefore make & publish this my last Will & testament in manner & form following to Wit: First & principally I commit my Soul into the hands of Almighty God & my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named, & after my just debts & funeral charges are paid, I devise & bequeath as follows: I devise & bequeath unto my husband Geo W. Howard all my real estate lying near St Joseph's Church in St Mary's County called "Hard Fortune" for & during the time of his natural life, & at his death I devise & bequeath the Same to my brother Geo W Morgan, in fee simple, if he be then living, if not then to such person as he designates by his last Will & testament. I bequeath unto my nephew James T.M.Raley the sum of $100 to be a lien upon my real estate, but shall not attach until the death of my husband George W Howard. The former devises & bequests shall be Subject to a ---- of a tenement house now on said farm with a garden attached, with priviledge of fire wood, which I give to Ann Taney colored, for & during the term of her natural life, & at her death the said house & garden shall go back to said farm subject to the aforegoing provisions. I give & bequeath to my niece Missouri Wathan my bed, bedstead & furniture. I give & bequeath to Catherine Morgan widow of my deceased brother Jos Morgan my parlor (?) stand. I give & bequeath unto my niece Jane Payne my --- & all my minor personalty, such as glass & Silver. I give & bequeath to my sister, Elizabeth Morgan, my wearing apparel. I give & bequeath unto Jennie D Raley my candle stand & toilet. I give & bequeath to my nephew Jos F Morgan my mahogany dining tables; I give & bequeath unto my Grand nephew James D Robinson my Red ----. I give & bequeath unto my Grand nephew Eugene Robinson my Small ----. I give & bequeath unto Florence Wathan my grandniece my Walnut round table & Rocking Chair. I give & bequeath unto my sister Elizabeth Morgan one half dozen fancy Chairs. All the rest & residue of my property real personal & mixed I give devise & bequeath to my brother Geo W Morgan. And lastly I do hereby constitute & appoint my nephew Jos F Morgan Executor to this my last Will & testament, revoking & annulling all former wills by me heretofore made & ratifying & confirming this & none other to be my last Will & testament. The lasat Will & testament of Dorothy Howard, late of St Mary's County, deceased, being this day during the recess of the Orphans Court, presented to me for probate, and no objections being made or Caveat filed against the Same, I, James T.M. Raley for St Mary's County, proceeded to take the probate thereto accordingly. Certified by James T.M.Raley Register of Wills for St Mary's County St Mary's County SS On the 30th day of October 1877 came John F King & H.A.Ford, 2 of the 3 subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last Will & testament of Dorothy Howard, late of St Mary's County, deceased, and made oath on the Holy Evangels etc etc etc
