Elizabeth Tarlton's Will 11 January 1822 In the name of God, Amen, I Elizabeth Tarlton of Saint Mary's County in the state of Maryland, being in perfect health of body, and of sound and disposing mind, and understanding, considering the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to take me hence, do therefore make, and publish and declare that my last will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say- First and principally, I commit my soul unto the hands of Almighty god, and my body to the earth, to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor therein after named, and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, I devise and bequeath as follows______ Item, I give and devise unto my Grandson John Hanson Thomas Tarlton that part of Whites Neck which I purchased of Seneca Cheseldine, containing twenty seven acres more or less as will more fully appear by the deed bearing date the 4th day of April eighteen hundred and fourteen, to him the said John Hanson Thomas Tarlton and his heirs for ever. Item, I give and bequeath unto my said Grandson John Hanson Thomas Tarlton, one Negro Girl named Juliana, one young gray horse named King Herod, one heifer between two and three years old, one breeding sow, the bed and furniture I lent his father and a hand bale to him and his heirs forever. Item, I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Ferdinand Blackiston, one Negro boy named George, one Negro Girl named Delily, one heifer between two and three years old, one breeding sow, and one bag mare named Polly, to him and his heirs forever___ Item, I give and bequeath unto ----Polly Bullock the sum of twenty Dollars__ Item, I give and bequeath unto my half sister Mrs Clary Thomas and __Polly Bullock all my wearing apparel to be equally divided between them__ Item, I give and bequeath unto unto my niece Elizabeth Thompson my carriage horse, carriage and gear, one Negro man named Tom, one Negro boy named William, two Negro women, the one named Caroline the other named Elizabeth, one bed and furniture, half dozen Green and gilt Windsor chairs, one small walnut table, half dozen silver desert spoons, half dozen silver tea spoons, two silver salt spoons, one plated c__?__ cruets, all my tea ware, half dozen dishes, one and a half dozen plates, two dozen knives and forks, the carpet on the hall floor, six pair of sheets, eight pillow cases, five cotton and yarn counterpanes, one walnut framed looking glass, one pair double flint decanters, one dutchoven, one frying pan, two iron pots and one creeper (?) , to her and her heirs forever__ Item, I give and bequeath unto my said niece Elizabeth Thompson all the rest and residue of my estate both real and personal to her and her heirs forever___ And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint Henry H. Clements to be sole executor of this my last will and testament, revoking and annulling all former wills by me heretofore made ratifying and confirming this, and none other, to be my last will and testament. Lleuwellin, John Llewellin Saint Mary's County Court: the 14th day of June 1823 there came Henry H. Clement and made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God, that the foregoing instrument of writing is the true and whole last will and testament of Elizabeth Tarlton late of Saint Mary's County, deceased, that hath come to his hands or possession and that he doth not know of any other__ Certified by James Forrest, Register of Wills for St. Mary's County. Saint Mary's County, the 14th day of June 1823. There came Enock Neale one of the Three subscribing witnesses to the afoegoing last will and testament of Elizabeth Tarlton late of Saint Mary's County deceased, and made oath on the Holy Evangel's of Almighty god, that he did see the Testatrix herein named sign and seal this will, and that he heard her publish, pronounce and declare the same to be her last will and testament, that at the time of her so doing she was to the best of his apprehension. Of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, and that they he had subscribed his name as a witness to her will in the presence and at the request of the Testatrix and in the presence of William K.
