The Maryland Land Warrents and Patents were researched primarily for information 
concerning the Tracy/Tracey family of Maryland.  Most of the surnames researched 
are associated with this family either by marriage or land ownership.  Other 
surnames are recorded because of the listing of heirs if the ancestor died 
intestate.

167 ¾ acres “Sherwood’s Industry”

Elizabeth Sherwood, mother and natural guardian of the children of Henry 
Sherwood, deceased.  Land obtained by Henry Sherwood 13 December 1774.  Granted 
to Elizabeth and children 4th  November 1792.

Elizabeth Sowthers/Sowther of Talbot County

On behalf of Robert Sowther (sic) an infant under the age of 20 years, did set 
forth that a certain Robert Sowther, the petitioner’s late father, had surveyed 
for him land called “Forrest and Dike”, 116 ½ acres by virtue of warrant granted 
him 19 November 1744.  Before Sowther obtained grant for 95 ¼ acres, he died 
intestate by whose death the same descended unto the aforesaid Robert Sowther, 
his only son and heir.  Granted 25 March 1751.
