The World Book Dictionary, 1983. *Tow is the fiber of flax and hemp after it has been prepared for spinning by having had the woody stems beaten away. The World Book Dictionary, 1983. *Hackle and hatchel were terms used interchangeably to describe the cutting and/or combing out of hemp or flax. The word comes from an older English word for the comb itself that is used in the process. The World Book Dictionary, 1983. Then came George Young Executor of Leonard Stright late of Said County decesd. & made Oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that the foregoing is a true & perfect Inventory of all & Singular the Goods & Chattles of the Said deceased, that have come to his hands or possession, at the time of the making thereof, that what hath since, or shall hereafter come to his hands or possession he will return in an additional Inventory, that he knows of no concealment of any part of the deceased’s Estate by any person whatsoever, & that if he Shall hereafter discover any Concealment, or Suspect any to be, he will Acquaint the Judge of the Orphans Court, with Such Concealment or cause of Suspition that it may be Enquired into, according to Law.
