Most of the surnames researched are associated with this family either by marriage or land ownership. Other surnames are recorded because of the listing of heirs if the ancestor died intestate. George Ankary/Ankony/Ankeny – Washington County George Ankary of Washington County, tract “Small Bit for George”, lying in said county 1 1/8 acre. Special Warrant by …Boreman 29 March 1791 and assigned to George Ankany, who departed this life, intestate, leaving George, John, Mary Daniel, Samuel and Jacob Ankary and Elizabeth Bovey, his only children. Jacob since died in his minority and Elizabeth Bovey since died leaving Samuel, Mary Ann, Jonathon and Michael Bovey. Land granted to George Ankary, John Ankary, Mary Ankary, Daniel Ankary, Samuel Ankary, Samuel Bovey, Mary Ann Bovey, Jonathon Bovey and Michael Bovey. Granted 24 May 1821 MD LW&P 1814-1820, FHC Film 0013135, page 520. Martin Bachtel – Washington County Land called “Bitely’s Delight”, 376 acres. Land lying in line to land called “Downey’s Lot” granted Robert Downey, a survey made for William Downey, 28 April 1791. MD LW&P 1814-1818, FHC Film 0013134, page 695 James Brooks – Frederick Co. 1774 – Tract called “The Promised Land”, being in Frederick County, now Washington County, 1, 200 acres. He made over title and interest to John Clapham, July 09, 1774, then Clapham assigned land to Thomas Johnson. MD LW&P 1784-1787, FHC film 0013123, page 6/7 Isaac Cheney, Thomas Cheney of Washington County Petition of Isaac Cheney and Thomas Cheney of Washington County, that Charles Cheney, the grandfather of your petitioners on 6 June 1752 obtained out of the land office of the (then) province of Maryland a warrant for 50 acres of land pursuance of which a survey was made and a certificate thereof returned by the name of “Cheney’s Delight”, lying in Frederick county, but in that part thereof now Washington County and containing 96 acres, for which the said Charles Cheney fully compounded and paid so that permission was given by the agent of the then propriotor for patent to issue thereon which permission was however invalidated by the subsequent order of the then governor of the Province that the said Charles Cheney afterwards departed this life, having first made and duly executed his last will and testament which he bequeathed in the first place to his son, Jeremiah Cheney, “all his lands lying below a bunch of mulberry trees being six in mumber and beginning at said mulberry trees and running North 70 degrees West to the given line of “Cheney’s Delight” with a proviso that if patent should not be obtained for the said “Cheney’s Delight”, the said Jeremiah Cheney should become entitled to 30 acres of a tract of land called “Gading” by a descriptive location of the same contained in the said provisional bequest. That the said Charles Cheney then proceeded to bequeath to his sons John Cheney and Nathan Cheney all the rest of his lands to be equally divided between them and directed that his sons, Jeremiah, John and Nathan should pay equal costs in case of a law suit for “Cheney’s Delight”. Your petitioners further represent that the aforesaid John Cheney departed this life intestate before the year 1785, leaving several children and among them, your petitioner, Thomas Cheney, his oldest son and heir-at-law; that the aforesaid Nathan Cheney also departed this life intestate, before the year 1785, leaving several children and among them, your petitioner Isaac Cheney, his oldest son and heir-at-law. Washington County “Cadiz” surveyed 10 November 1759, granted unto Ezekial Chaney, 483 acres, some escheat land granted 11 December 1786 MD LW&P 1784-1787, FHC Film 0013123, page 23 Henry Locker – Washington County 3 ¾ acres – “Addition to Marstone”, granted 28 March 1817, patent issued 18 August 1824. MD LW&P 1824-1829, FHC Film 0013136, page 148, MD Book 150. William J. Mason and Ann, his wife of Washington County William J. Mason and Ann, his wife, of Washington county did set forth that Nicholas Carroll, late of Ann Arundel County, deceased 12 June 1794, obtained warrant to tract called “Brushy Neck” lying in county aforesaid, originally 24 August 1665 granted to John Baldwin for 150 acres with corrections that made the land 176 ¼ acres and whole called “Brushy Neck Enlarged”. MD LW&P 1814-1818, FHC Film 0013134, page 695 Daniel Schnebly – Washington County 265 1/8 acres “Castle Plains”, October 1816 to Daniel Schnebly, Esq. of Washington County, part of “Spring Gardens” on 16 November 1793 granted to Henry Schnebly for 357 ¼ acres, originally granted to John Boyd for 500 acres. Daniel Schnebly assigned land to John Felker, 26 December 1817. MD LW&P 1814-1818, FHC Film 0013134, page 706 Dr. Henry Schnebly – Washington County 125 ½ acres “Schnebly’s Improvement” “Castle Plains”, part of “Taken in Time”, “Dear Bought”, and part of “Resurvey on Castle Plains”. Mary Read, Peter Sybert, Catherine Adamclost (?), Jacob Sybert, Michael Sybert, Christian Sybert, Elizabeth Sybert, Susannah Sybert 250 ½ acres “Red Liquor” Petitioners are children and heirs –at –law of John Sybert, late of Washington County, deceased. John, in his lifetime, to wit: 29 October 1783 obtained a special warrant, etc. He departed this life intestate, leaving petitioners, together with two sons not before mentioned, to wit: John Sybert and Henry Sybert, his only children. John Sybert and Henry Sybert died intestate and without issue, therefore the petitioners ask that patent be issued to them for the 250 ½ acres, tract called “Red Liquor”. Granted 7 December 1808. Dr. Charles Alexander Warfield – Ann Arundel County 87 11/2 acres, “Welcome Here Again”, land formerly in Frederick Co., now Washington Co. “Bachelor’s Delight”, formerly Frederick County, now Washington Co., 80 ½ acres; “Mary Pitt”, 80 acres, formerly Frederick Co., now Washington Co, “Flora’s Good Will”, etc. MD LW&P 1784-1787, FHC Film 0013123, page 673 Petitioners William Elias Williams, Edward Green Williams, Henry Lee Williams, Otho Holland Williams; Infants by their guardian, William Smith. Land located in Frederick County, now Washington County surveyed 1 May 1752 “Leedo” for Thomas Cresap. Thomas Cresap left land to his son, Thomas Cresap, who died intestate and left two daughters, his heirs, Charity and Priscilla and the said Priscilla died intestate, no heirs. Charity intermarried with a certain John Reed who together with his said wife on 2 June 1786 transferred land to Otho Holland Williams, now deceased. That the said Otho Holland Williams is now dead, leaving William Elie (sic) Williams, Edward Green Williams, Henry Lee Williams and Otho Holland Williams, heirs-at-law, and all infants under 20 years of age and William Smith is their guardian. /S/ Arthur Shaaff for petitioners December 22, 1804 – approved.
