A formatted version can be Viewed at http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/worcester/wills/hayward-g.pdf George Hayward (d. 1773) Will Worcester County MD Maryland Hall of Records 39:295 (Microfilm SR4433-1) Written 6 February 1773 Probate 5 May 1773 In the name of God amen I George Hayward of Worcester County Attorney at Law do make this my last Will and testament in manner and form Following that is to say First I desire and direct that my Land at Nassaongo Bridge where the Tanner now lives be sold by my Exectrix hereafter named to the best advantage Also I devise and direct that all my household furniture and Lumber (except my plate and the most valuable part of my household furniture) and all by books Law Divinity and History (except such part thereof as my wife shall chuse to keep) also all my horses (except my two bay horses a mare called Jenny Quetum and a horse called White Stockings also all my stock of Cattle (except two of the best yoke of Oxen) also my part of the Schooner called the Speedwell after she has made this voyage also all my Tobacco be sold my Exectrix hereafter mentioned to the best advantage Also I devise and direct that all my money ariseing from the sales aforesaid and all my other money as soon as the same can be collected to put out to use for the support and maintenance of my wife and children Also I devise and direct that all my negroes that my wife cannot well spare off the Plantation be kept thereon such as the old negroes and that the young ones which are able to Labour be hired out and that such as are not able to Labour be put out on the best terms they can if the old negroes cannot support them on the Plantation Also I give and bequeath unto my son Edmund John Hough Hayward one silver can which I sent for this year with the inscription of Edmund John Hough Hayward to him and his heirs for ever I also give and bequeath unto my said son Edmund John Hough Hayward the following negroes to wit York Jaci Roy Chester and little Rachel who being a negro girl which his grandfather gave him to him and his heirs for ever. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Charlotte Hayward the following negroes to wit Louisa Priss Nell Chloe Bristol and a boy called John Allen to her and her heirs for ever. Also I give and bequeath unto my son George Hayward one silver can which I bought at Philadelphia without any Inscription and to him and his heirs for ever. I also give and bequeath unto my said son John Hayward the following negroes to wit Jacob Michael Frederick great Rhoda Robin Amelia and Jem to him and his heirs forever Also I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Sarah Hayward the following negroes to wit great Rachel old Pleasant Frank Moll Susie and little Rhoda to her and her heirs forever Never the less it is my will and Desire that my said loving wife Sarah Hayward to have the sole use and benefit of my whole Estate during her natural life or Widowhood and after her decease or Widowhood which shall first happen whatever money shall be raised by the sale of the Land & Schooner aforesaid Also the cargo she now carries out together with one remaining in the West Indies I give & bequeath one third thereof to my son George Hayward and his heirs and one third thereof to my daughter Charlotte and he heirs and one half of the remaining third to my son Edmond John Hough Hayward and his heirs and I give and bequeath the remaining sixth part thereof to my loving wife Sarah Hayward and to her disposal. Also I give and bequeath unto Hannah Stewart and Elizabeth Hough the sundry goods which I sent for to London for them this year to them and their heirs. Also I devise and direct that my sons Edmond John Hough Hayward and George Hayward be given by my Executrix as good an Education as this Continent will afford and then be put to such business as their capacity and genius is best fitted for Also I Will and direct that my Corn meal and wheat which I have now on the plantation be not appraised as any part of my Estate but be kept and made use of for the support of the family Also I give and bequeath unto my loving wife all the remaining part of my Plantation ? away to her and her heirs Lastly I Constitute ordain and appoint my loving wife Sarah Hayward my whole and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revokeing all other Will or Wills heretofore by me made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 6{th} day of February 1773. H Johnson James Martin John Done At the foot of the aforegoing Will was thus written Viz May 5{th} 1773 Then came Henry Johnson James Martin and John Done the subscribing Witnesses to the foregoing Will and made oath on the holy Evangels of Almighty God that they saw George Hayward the Testator sign Seal and heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be the last Will and Testament and that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehension of a sound disposing mind and memory and that they subscribed their names as Witnesses to the said Will in the presence of the Testator and at his request 9 sides
