All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Next to Androscoggin River, on Riverside Drive (The History of Auburn, Maine titled "1869 - Auburn - 1969, 100 Years a City, A study in Community Growth, by Skinner, Libby & Merrill on page 302 states: The Wagg Cemetery in South Auburn, Maine is probably the oldest of all the Auburn Cemeteries. The earliest marked stone was that of James Wagg. This read "James Wagg of Brighton, England first settler of South Auburn 1780. .....The plots were in the woods near the Androscoggin River. The graves probably faced the road that once went along by the river, but since reached from the South River Road by crossing a large garden plot that was sometimes planted to potatoes and other times beans."
