This estate was one of the largest and most valuable in North Britain. It was said to be worth, sixty million dollars, and situated on the river Dee. The Marr family in New England claim to be descendants of one John Marr, who was supposed to have settled in Portsmouth, NH in 1717. John Marr was a son of John Erskine, Earl of Marr, who supported the cause of Pretender in 1715. In 1834 Cyrus Marr disposed of his claim to the Marr estate in Scotland to the late Nathan Reynolds, a retail trader at Lewiston, ME. He received an equivalent therefor the sum of one hundred dollars. Mr Marr expended in repairs upon his dwelling-house, which though it has passed from the possession of his descendants. It could still be seen standing at the cross roads in 1873, extending respectively to Wales & Lewiston, half a mile northeastwardly of Robinson's Mtn.
