The Lewiston Journal in 1849 stated, "the Rev Daniel L Quimby of Lisbon, ME, who for 15 years had been a circuit preacher of the Methodist Church absconded with the wife Mr Lawrence of Wayne. Mr Quimby & Mrs Lawrence have gone to parts unknown. Quimby left behind a wife & three children. Mrs Lawrence left a husband & three children." From the Maine Farmer issue 28 Mar 1850, copied from the Lewiston Falls Journal Rev Daniel Quimby of Durham ME who eloped some time since with the wife of Mr Lawrence of Wayne has written to his wife & friends sundry letters in which he feigns sincere repentance. He & his paramour are both in Missouri & it seem have become tired of each other. Having expended what property they carried with them, they are now seeking to get back to their old homes with broken down constitutions. We understand that Quimby pretends that he was crasy, when he went off. It is quite likely whatever Quimby may pretend. Mrs Lawrence was undoubtedly in sane for several years before her elopement. We understand she has written to her husband lately, expressing adesire to return."
