He was the very colored  boy who field the horse for George Washington while he fixed his  harness on the field at the first battle he ever was engaged. He  was a swaman in later years, and was one of the crew of the  privateer "Lawrence" which sailed from Baltimore in 1814. He was  captured and sent to Dartmoor Prison, where he saw the massacre  in the spring of 1815. It was understood by the hospital  that he was employed at the State House in Augusta. Under the  Townsend Revolving Pension plan careful calculation shows Voise would have collected $96,000 since the tender age of 65.
