One hundred miles N. N. W. of Houlton, via Ashland. Thirty-six miles from Ashland, twelve miles from Fort Kent. Settled in 1810, by Sefroi Nadeau, a Canadian Frenchman, and Richard Woods, an Irishman. Organized in 1856, and named Eagle Lake from the fact of its being frequented by the white-headed eagle. Population-1870, 143; 1880, 233. Valuation, 1870 ___; Polls, 40. Post-office-Fort Kent. Clerk-Henry M. Willett. Treasurer-Peter Gagnon. Assessors-John M. Brown, Francis Thibodeau, Joseph Viancour. Constable and Collector-Docite Pinet. Clergyman-Cleophas Demers (Fort Kent), Cath. School Committee-Wm. Brown, Vital Devot, Felix Thibodeau. Products-Lumber and grain of all kinds. Manufactories-Three saw mills and one grist mill.
