Settled by Acadian French. Incorporated March 2, 1869, and named from island in
St. John River. Population-1860, 545; 1870, 688; 1880, 847. Valuation,
1870-Polls, 113; Estates, $40,865; 1880-Polls, 150; Estates, $80,014.
