1837 Census of Bangor, Maine in Ward 6 Bangor was first called Kenduskeag Plantation from the Indian name Condeskeag. Rev. Seth Noble named Bangor after the tune by that name. A fort was erected in Bangor previous to 1656 by the French and named Norombega. Settled by the English in 1769. But not incorporated as the 73rd town until 25 Feb. 1791 and as a city on 12 Feb. 1834.
