Willimantic, Piscataquis Co., Maine bounds: Elliottsville, Bowerbank, Guilford, 
Monson. Previous designations: 8R8 NWP, &  Howard. Stanley B. Attwood's book The 
Length and Breadth of Maine printed in 1946 states settled in 1849.  

The town was incorporated  on 22 Feb 1881 as Howard the 446th town in Maine. 
Name was changed to Willimantic on 3 Feb 1883.
