early married life in Bowdoin & Durham, Me, and moved onto the Danville
Me, section of the Pejepscot Claim about 1800. Remaining here about 12
years then moved to Rumford, ME, where they died. CHILDREN: William b

ANDERSON Jacob, came from Duncannon, the home of the O'Neils, in Ulster
County, North Ireland [according to the records of his decendants,
compiled by Rev C N Sinett of S Dakota] He was said to have emigrated
to America about 1810 [sic likely 1710?]. He likely came to Boston, Ma,
in the famous Boyd Colony. He lived for a short time near Old Orchard
Beach, ME. Moving to a portion of Freeport, Me, which was known as
Flying Point. He settled starting a farm, which he carried on in a very
successful manner. On this farm he built a strong blockhouse, as a
protection for the neighborhood from the Indians. He was a noted Indian
fighter during the French & Indian Wars. The Cumberland County, Me
Registry of Deeds shows the sale to Jacob Anderson of portions of the
Dummer Claim, in what was then North Yarmouth, Me, and on the adjacent
Island off Flying Point. These Islands were called Middle Brother,
Upper Brother, and the sow and Pigs. The sales of these islands were
made from Mar 1759 to Mar 1764 by Jere Powell, Epes Sargent, Timothy

of good abilities, sound judgment, and an industrious farmer. He served
much in town office during his brief residence, being Fence Viewer,
1802 and 1805, tax collector and Constable, 1804, Field driver, 1805,
and 1806, Tythingman 1805, Hog Rieve 1805 and 1806, Highway surveyor,
1806, moderator 1805 & 1806, and selectman 1803 & 1806. He likely moved

Austin died 15 Apr 1895. Mrs Austin died in Auburn (ME) 24 Feb 1905.

The name of his mother is unknow. Altho never legally adopted he lived
Šfor many years of his youth in the home of his uncle by marriage -
Leonard Hicks. He was engaged in farming and brick making at Danville
Jct (AUBURN) . In later years he worked for Maine Centeral Railroad as
a signalman at Danville Jct. He was a democrat and served as a member
of the Auburn Common Council for Ward Five in 1885 and 1886, and was
Postmaster at Danville, 1888-1890. For many years he was an authorized
Measurer of Wood and Bark. In Fraternal circles, Mr Austin was a
member a Cumberland Lodge # 12 F & AM of New Gloucester (ME) Serving
the lodge as Master in 1888 & 1889 and as Senior Warden in 1891. He was
a member of Golden Sheaf Chapter, OES of New Gloucester, Danville Jct
Grange # 65 which he served as Master. He married (1st) at Turner, 18
May 1879, Mary L Martin, who was born at New Gloucester, 2 Apr 1855,
d/o Sewall & Persis (Nelson) Martin. She died in Auburn 8 Oct 1905, and
he married (2nd) Mrs Marietta (Wagg) Pollister, who was born in
Danville, 22 Mar 1852 the d/o George W & Desire (Penley) Wagg. She was
prominent in church and fraternal circles, was for many years Chaplain
of Danville Jct Grange, and a trustee of Danville Union Church. Mrs
Austin died in Auburn (ME) 3 May 1931, Mr Austin died 19 Oct 1934. Both
were highly respected and useful citizens. Children: Nelson Kenneth b
16 Apr 1881 at Auburn (ME) was educated in Auburn public school, Edward
Little High School, and at the University of Maine College of
Agriculture. He was engaged in farm management in both Massachusetts
and Maine, for 11 years being manager of Morey Farm on Pigeon Hill,
Mechanics Falls, ME. He was member of Danville Jct Grange, Master two
terms, and of Cumberland Lodge of Masons. He married (1st) at New
Gloucester, Oct 16, 1912, ELizabeth Woodbury, who was born at
Kennebunkport, ME 1893, d/o Stanwood A & Alice S (Townsend) Woodbury,
they separated and he married (2nd) Belle Potter, who was born at
Ellsworth, Me, 27 Jul 1882, d/o Mr & Mrs George Potter. He died
suddently 17 Oct 1934 , two days before the death of his father Belle
(Potter) Austin died in Lewiston (ME) 19 Aug 1956 [Starbird's records

Ayer. James Ayer m 5 Nov 1796, Dorcas Somes, who was b 24 Apr 1773 d/o
Nehemiah & Abigail. The family moved to New Gloucester (ME) in 1796,
and to Pejepscot Claim before 1799. He was a farmer and hard
workingman whose efforts seem to have been dogged by ill luck
culminating in the loss of his Danville home by fire 30 Nov 1823. All
was lost. He was Tythingman in 1830. Children: Ann b 23 May 1897 at
