in Falmouth, ME. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, a private
in Capt Joseph Pride's Co in a detachment of Cumberland Co Milita
commanded by Nathaniel Jordan Esq. He was discharged in Oct 23, 1779

and moved here shortly after his marriage in 1838. Here he remained

day (1990) occupied by the widow of his gradson Mrs James W (Inez)

HICKS James Wesley b 7 May 1887 at Auburn ME s/o Charles H & Abbie L
(Blair) Hicks. For many years he engaged in truck farming and did a
moderately prosperous business. In early life he was an active baseball
player and for many years he played the piano in a dance band and was
an excellent musivian. He was efficient in road work, took charge of
the Auburn highway department in his district. He was a member of the
Redmen & had served as Sachem of his Lodge. He married at Auburn ME 15
June 1927 Inez Edna Lufkin b 13 Oct 1904 d/o Osman W & Vesta May
(Flint) Lufkin. She has been a woman of unusual energy, assisted in the
gardening and dairying work of the farm. Inez is a member of Danville
Jct Grange and has served as Secretary & Chaplain for many years. She
is also a member of the Order of Pocohontas serving officer in that

HICKS John Andrew  b 31 May 1855 at Danville Me s/o Winslow & Emeline
(Libbey) Hicks. He was a farmer and carpenter. He built many buildings
in the vicinity of his birthplace on the Tuckey Lane Road, near
Danville Jct ME. He built a place of his own and after the death of his
elder brother Henry, he sold his property and moved onto the home place
of his father. This property has always remained in the family, later
occupied  at " present 1963" occupied ny his daughter and son-in-law,
Charles E & Lillian (Hicks) Gilbert, and in 1990 by Alvin Gilbert, the
City Councilor for  Ward 4, Auburn ME. John married in 1879 Ada E Rowe
d/o of Charles C & Hannah A Rowe of Danville ME and after the death of
his older brother Henry moved to the old homestead of his parents. His
wife d 5 Jul 1926 he died 15 Jan 1931. Both he & his wife were active

HICKS Leonard b 2 Jan 1820 at Falmouth Me br/o Winslow & James, and 3rd
s/o Samuel & Abigail (Winslow) Hicks. He settled on a large farm
adjoining land of his brothers Winslow & James. Here in engaged not
only in general farming, but held a contract to furnish wood for both
the Atlantic & ST Lawrence and the Androscoggin & Kennebec Railroads.
In 1855 he established a brick yard and for many years did a large
business in this field. In later years he leased the yard to other
brick makers and devoted his energies to farming. Leonard Hicks was a
public spirted citizen. In 1866 he was chosed one of the delegates to
visit the Maine Legislature to oppose the annexation of Danville to
Auburn & gave generouly of both his time & money in the cause. He was a
charter member of Danville Jct Grange and gave the lot of Land where
the Danville Union Church now (1990) stands. After the annextion of
Danville to Auburn although he was an uncompromising Democrat, he was
elected to the Auburn Common Council of 1875 * 1876 representing Ward

Retiring from this enterprise after the death of his second wife, he
removed to Danville ME. He joined his three sons already living in
Danville (ME).  He setttled on the Hotel Road appears to have operated
a small store for some time, and served as Postmaster of West Danville,
30 June 1852 to 29 Dec 1853 when his ill health forced him to give up

(Libbey) Hicks. He studied in Danville schools and in his early life on
the farm farm on the Upper Hotel Road, Danville (now Auburn). For 39
years he operated a productive and extensive dairy farm, selling his
milk and dairy products in the twin cities from a dairy wagon. In later
life he altered his name to Conant Solomon Hicks. He was a carter
member of Stevens Mills Grange as was his wife. Together they served

15 Aug 1734,d 1819 in Meredith, NH the fifth child of John (b 3 Mar

Ma she d 1802.  They had 14 children, three of whom were born in
