He married at Minot 1808, Nancy Nash of Minot. Children: MERRILL John b 25 Apr 1750 at Newbury, Mass he came to North Yarmouth, Me and married (20) or 30 July 1773 Molly Royal, who was b 7 Apr 1751. They lived for a time in N Yarmouth where their first child was born. Molly Royal Merrill was judged by the early settlers to be a witch, and many minor misfortunes of local settlerd were attributed to her witchcraft. This widely held superstition appears to have had an adverse effect upon the standing of her husband in the community. John was the first permanent settler on that section of the Pejepscot Claim that became the Town of Pejepscot, Danville, and now Auburn, Me. He purchased land in 1773 of Moses Little on Moses Little's Gore. This Gore of land was at one time part of New Gloucester (ME). He moved his family on to the Gore about 1776. the late Charles Starbird stated in 1960 that the cellar hole of John Merrill's log cabin could still be seen located on the Lois Arris property. This hole is between the Arris house & Herman Lord's home.
