He graduated at Bowdoin A.B. in 1861. Durning the pursuit of his studies both at Lewiston Falls Academy and at Bowdoin, he taught school in Danville Districts. He taught in 10th District in 1854, and in the 1st District 1856, 1857, 1858, and 1859. In 1858 he was chosen Supervisor of School for the Town of Danville at an annuel salary of $30.00 per year, and he held this postion with great benefit to the Danville school system during the remainder of his years at Bowdoin. Upon graduation at Bowdoin he taught in the Academy (Edward Little's High School) and for about a year was its Principal for a little more then a year. In Jul 1863, Mr Roands enlisted as a private in the 13th Maine Inf Regt. On 8 Jan 1864, he was promated Quartermaster Sergeant. The same year he was transferred for promotion to the 32nd Maine Regt, receiving a commission as First Lieut, and at the same time serving as muster officer. He was wounded in action, 12 May 1864, and following his recovery was transferred as First Lieut. to Co K 31st Maine Regt. On 23 June 1865 was commissioned Capt of Co K. Charles Rounds Esq was admitted to the Androscoggin County Bar at Jan term of the Supreme Court, 1865, and while still in the military service. After discharged from the military service he settled in a practice of law in Calais ME. He was shortly taken into partnership with Marshall L McKusick and the legal team of Rounds and McKusick for more than a half century was one of the leading law firms in Washington County. Mr Rounds was an excellent trail lawyer, and his firm took part in many of the important cases tried in Washington Co. While living in Calais ME he served on City Council 1877, Superintendent of Calais Schools 1878,1879 and 1884, school Committee 1877-1884, County Attorney of Washington Co 1877 and Judge 1883. William attained his education in Danville Public schools and at Lewiston Falls Academy and for a time taught at Edward Little Institude. He learned the shoemakers trade and followed that pursuit for a time. He later was employed as Clerck for the Grand Trunk Railway. In the spring of 1860 he moved to East Poland and opened a general Store. In 1866 he purchased the interest of Lyman Couens in the general store at Minot Corner and moved there. Mr Rounds was engaged in the the manufacture of barrels at Minot Corner. William H was often called to offices of public trust serving as Postmaster of East Poland 1861-1865 then Postmaster of Minot Corner 1868- until his death. His widow Rebecca (Fitz) Rounds served served as Postmaster after his death. He was a Repuplican, elected to the Maine House for Minot & Poland in 1860 and re-elected in 1873. The friends of the missing men were in some measure relieved of their great anxiety by the dog being home, or coming home (T Goss & man arrived home a few days after the dog) How did this dog find his old master's house, having been carried by water etc, why did he travel several 100 miles to come to his old home? He married at Norway, 13 Mar 1821, Hannah Millett, who was born in Norway, 10 Apr 1797.d 22 Feb 1884 The family lived for a time in Danville, where Mr Rowe was tythingman in 1825, and agent for the fifth school district in 1839 and 1847. In their later years, the couple returned to Norway. Their nine children were all living and all present when they celebrated their golden wedding, and each one presented the parents with a five-dollar gold piece. The home of their old age in Norway, Me was later owned by Bessie (Rowe) Hutchins, the dau of their son Jason, and she lived there until her death.
