The family was early settlers on the Pejepscot Claim, Samuel operated a shingle mill, and ran a small farm in the area above the Little Androscoggin River The exact location of his stand is not know, but may have been on Taylor Brook above the Little Androscoggin River. At the first Pejepscot Town meeting 1802, he was chosen Highway Sureyor "above the Litte Androscoggin River". Historian Charles Starbird thought, Samuel was likely a squatter that lost his improvements for late in life both he & his widow fell into want. In the 1790 Census list Samuel Starboard of Bakerstown Plt, Cumberland Co, Maine 1-3-2. Samuel Starbird lived near the town line of Bakerstown (Poland/Minot), Me and was counted in Bakerstown (Poland) in the 1790 Census. Pejepscot was not counted in 1790.
