Robert Southgate was born at Lancaster Oct. 26, 1741.  He married Mary, eldest 
daughter of Richard King June 23, 1773, and had these children:

Mary King, b. Sept. 4, 1775
daughter, b. Jan. 9, 1777; died the same day.
Son, b. Nov. 7, 1777; died the same day.
Isabella, b. Mar. 29, 1779.
Horatio, b. Aug. 9, 1781.
Betsey [Elizabeth?]*, b. Sept. 24, 1783.
Octavia, b. Sept. 13, 1786.
Meranda [Miranda?], b. Feb. 15, 1789.
Frederick, b. Aug. 9, 1791.
Robert, b. Oct. 14, 1796.

*Betsey was the subject of "Girl's Life Eighty Years Ago", mostly a collection 
of her letters, published by Scribner, New York, 1888.  Her name is entered on 
these records as Betsey, sometimes called Elizabeth, and shortened to Elize 
[Eliza?].  The above book says she was the third child in a family of twelve, 
but according to these records she was the sixth....Elizabeth Southgate married 
Walter Bowne, in 1803, and had Walter, 1806, and Mary, July, 1808, and died Feb. 
19, 1909.
