WELD.

Twenty miles W. of Farmington. Terminus of stage-line from Wilton (12 miles).
First settled in March, 1800. Formerly called Webb's Pond. Incorporated the
214th town Feb. 8, 1816, and named in honor of Benjamin Weld of Boston, one of
the former owners. Population-1850, 995; 1860, 1035; 1870, 1130; 1880, 1040.
