From there, Samuel, one of his four sons, came to Gouldsboro and settled, attracted by the large amount of salt hay and fine lumber. Here, his first wife having died, he married again, his second wife's family being Leighton. Her Christian name is not known. Four children were born to them, the eldest , Polly, being the first white girl born within the present limits of the town. Mr. Libby's only son, Joseph, born in 1765, married in 1799, Bathsheaba Gibbs of Rochester, Mass. Joseph then built a house on the present site of the Libby homestead. Of their six children, Daniel the eldest remained in the old home. He married, in 1826, Mary Ann Whitaker. To them were born six children, three of whom still live at the old homestead * * * * NOTICE: Printing the files within by non-commercial individuals and libraries is encouraged, as long as all notices and submitter information is included.
