Miss Alice Pratt arrived home from California last Friday. Alton Richardson, Geo. Getchell and J. H. Rich were in Boston this week. Miss Julia McDonald is at home in Houlton for a short visit. Elmer Joy who has been at work in Hallowell is at home. Henry Wood has treat his house to a coat of paint. Rev. W. L. Brown is attending the commencement exercises at Bucksport this week. A tramp who stole a box of Brussels soap conceiled his identity by washing himself with a cake of it. Herbert Martin of Augusta was the guest of Alton Richardson, Jr. last Sunday. Bernard Ranlett has sold his colt for $400. He is a handsome horse and fine proportioned. Edgar Hunter cut himself with an axe just above the knee last Saturday, making a very bad wound so that several stitches had to be taken. J. H. Rich and wife and Dr. Brock and wife attended the funeral of Will Lane at Brooks Wed. of last week. Mr. Lane, at one time, worked in the shop here for his uncle J. H. Rich. He died at the home of his sister in Waterville while visiting there. Geo. McNally is at work in Hallowell. Mrs. Aaron Stewart is visiting in Patten. Senator Haines was in town Tuesday. A. B. Woodcock, who has been in ill health the past few weeks, is now some better. County Attorney Carleton and Mr. Fogler, register of deeds was in this place Wednesday. Forest J. Martin has rented an office of E. G. Hodgdon and will soon commence the practice of law. Rev. A. D. Dodge went to Pittsfield Tuesday to attend a meeting of the trustees of which he is a member. Chas. Crummett and wife returned home last Saturday and left again on Monday to take the place of the station agent at Unity for a short time. N. Jaquith as made a big improvement in the looks of his building by taking down a part of the ell, remodeling, it and clapboarding and painting the stable. Gerald and Reed moved the building bought by J. P. Billings of B. T. Foster & Co., across the street onto a lot obtained of Mrs. A. M. Billings. Mr. Billings will fix it up for a tenement. Mr. T. A. Ricker left this week with a crew of men to work on a dam in Rainbow, Conn. Among the crew of men were Briggs Cole, Preston Weymouth and Irving Lewis of this town. Jones:-Hello, Brown! See that man going down the street with his pockets bulging out like a balloon? Brown:- "Yes, who is he?" Jones: --Why, that's Jenkins, and that's money his wife saved for him in economizing by using "Brussels soap." The Free Baptist Circle will meet at their rooms in the church Wednesday, June 18, afternoon and evening. Supper, ice-cream, cake and coffee will be served by the ladies of the society. A general invitation is extended to all. John P. says, that the parties -- a certain M. D. and John C. -- seen in the rear of his stable were probably looking after his pig, of course they didn't take his missing bean poles. It must of been Ike. Baptism next Sunday by Rev. A. D. Dodge. Dodge and Jaquith have a nice lot of honey for sale. Quarterly meeting at the M. E. church Sunday June 22nd. Mrs. Rev. R. F. Bisbey and children are visiting her sister, Mrs. H. M. Bean. Paris Stewart, who has been confined to his home for four or five months, is slowly gaining. There is no school to-day, Mr. Morse the teacher goes to Pittsfield to attend the anniversary exercises. The Rockland District Ministerial Association will be held at the M. E. church in this village June 23-25. Mrs. George Spearin and Mrs. Chas. Wentworth have returned from a two week's trip to Boston and Dover, N. H. Mrs. Susan Reed had a surgical operation performed last Friday by Drs. Goodrich and Fortier of Waterville and Dr. Brock of this place. She is doing well. The following delegates attended the Republican Convention at Augusta Thursday: -- A. Rowell, J. P. Billings, Perry Brown, Nathan Bracket, Willis Cain, Wm. Richardson, Gersham Flagg. Dodge and Jaquith are to enlarge their store so as to admit of it. They will take out the office and make the old store and new part into one room which will give them a very large store. They will fit the part moved back into a dwelling. Roundy and Galusha have taken the job. NORTH CLINTON. Willie Chase is at work for E. H. Gerald. A. P. Adams has bought him a nice pair of horses. Quite a number from this place attended the baptism at More's Mill Sunday June 1ss. It is said that 35 were baptized. Mr. Frank A. Hayes of East Lincoln was in the place Tuesday and Wednesday, calling on relatives and friends, having been absent eight years. His wife's brother, Mr. Stone accompanied him. Transcribed by Tina S.
